A movie adaptation of the literary work of Nigeria’s first elected Prime Minister, Sir Tafawa Balewa, known as “Shehu Umar”, is set to hit the cinema in Berlin, Germany.

Mr Brian Etuk, the Head of Public Affairs, Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC) disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, in Jos.

Etuk said the recently digitised film would be launched during the 68th Berlin International Film Festival to hold February 15th to 25th.

He said the film to be viewed by film makers, distributors and marketers from Europe, Asia and Africa would attract international investment for film production in Nigeria.

According to Etuk, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, the Managing Director of NFC, would lead the Nigeria delegation to the 10-day festival.

“The film would be a major feat for the film industry and NFC towards creating an enabling environment to boost film production, through good policies and framework,’’ he said.

He said, while in Berlin, the Nigerian delegation would initiate and participate in meetings to seek collaborations with the Film School of Berlin and other participating countries.

NAN reports that the literary work ‘Shehu Usman ‘ was first published in 1955.

It exposes the personal experiences of the Premier on the philosophy that led to the plight of slave trade in the 19th century.

It was adapted in 1976 as a film by Mr Adamu Halilu, the Pioneer MD of NFC, who headed the organisation in 1982.

The German Government has supported NFC in conducting training for its staff and has donated equipment of digital scanner to its Film School. (NAN)

President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that there no government could solve Nigeria’s problems within four years.
The president made this declaration, yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in continuation of his re-election campaign.
He emphasised that beyond tackling the Boko Haram insurgency, his administration was addressing other challenges in several sectors of the economy, including creating jobs through diverse means.
He said: “Beyond tackling the insurgency, we are creating road networks; we are moving faster in several sectors. There is no way within four years any government can finish the programmes of this country”.
The President’s declaration contrasted sharply with his previous remark over four years ago in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Jonathan had while interacting with Nigerians in Addis-Ababa, in February 2011, promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in power, especially.
He had said: “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to address and we are working towards that with vigour.
“But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past.
“Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.”

They have to take security measures otherwise opposition politicians can deploy terrorists or kidnappers working for them against the workers.

The federal government has said it has commenced rehabilitation of failed portions of the nation’s road at night to avoid traffic congestions that are associated with day time repair.
The Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA Federal Road maintenance Engineer in charge of the FCT, Engineer Ambrose stated this at the weekend while carrying out repair works on several portions of the Abuja-keffi road.
Omame who led a team of engineers and other staff of FERMA to repair failed portions of the roads said the decision to work at night was parts of resolve taken by the Managing Director of FERMA,who according to him is relentless in ensuring that roads across the federation are motorable at all times.
He noted that FERMA would continue to fix failed portions on the Abuja-keffi road until when the federal ministry of works carry out the planned holistic expansion of the already congested dual carriageway.

A retail clerk with the Join Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who claimed that an ‘unidentified spiritual snake’ had ingested the sum of N36 million realized from the sales of scratch cards, would be held responsible for the missing money.
Philomina Chieshe had reportedly told auditors that the sum of N36 generated from the scratch card in the Makurdi office was stolen using a mysterious snake.
A senior official with the board said investigators have neither seen the snake in question nor established evidence that a strange snake had lurk around the crime scene as such Chieshe may be held accountable for the missing money.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that last Saturday’s House of Representatives bye-election in Katsina State was ‎full of irregularities.
The opposition party also claimed that the last Saturday’s Kano State Local Council election was characterised by "outright cheating, open under-aged voting and ballot stuffing" describing it as a mockery of democracy.
In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the PDP Spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said the level of "irregularities" in the two elections showed that the ruling APC cannot win any free and fair election, even in their "supposed" stronghold.
The party stated that ‎it was comparing a comprehensive documentary evidence to buttress its allegations in due course.
"The fact that the APC had to recourse to brute force and allocation of ballots to gain votes in the bye-election in Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency, which ordinarily should have been for them, a walkin the park, being President Buhari’s constituency, shows that the party has pathetically lost it all.
"In their desperation to help the President, the APC in cohort with the inept Presidency declared war on the people by ensuring the deployment of over 1000 heavily armed and hostile security operatives for an election that held in only 15 polling units within two local governments of Katsina State.
