Honestly I feel for you! you should have doing regular back ups of your data from time to time. If you have a lawyer get him to talk to the hosting provider before going to court. If you can't come to reasonable agreement then go to court. Sue them for damages and loss of properties. Also get your clients to be involve for evidence purpose. Please from now on always and always back up your databases and files. Use git/ github as repo.
Thanks

The golden rule is web administration is Backup, backup and backup. Did you? I don't think so.

Have you read their Terms of Service?
They don't guarantee ziltch.

Anybody can sue anybody, the issue is will you win?
Will you be able to prove that their actions caused the crash? It's hard.

And what substantial damages will you be entitled to? Lastly is the amount you will have to pay your lawyers to litigate a case you might not win.
Firstly, I didn't backup but isn't that supposed to be their major task considering the fact I'm also paying them?
I have read their terms and conditions before posting and I never defaulted any.
Their actions caused the crashed of the websites and It also affected other websites. They are 100% aware that they are the cause because of the various mails they sent me and considering the fact they are even trying to compensate me with free hosting for some months!
The damage caused here is lost of property which they are solely responsible. As regards the amount to pay a lawyer, that won't be a problem cause they will definitely pay more

You can go ahead, you lost your property, but if you can take the headache of the slow Nigeria process then good. Also how much worth is the files and data you lost?
The client paid me 250k. Site already has up to 15 subscribed users and the minimum subscription plan is #500 and maximum is #3000

Hi everyone, please I need your sincere advice.
I have been using Smartweb webhosting provider since Novemberber last year for my personal and clients website. It all started last week when I was trying to renew one of my web and application host that expired about less than 2 months ago, I found out that all the files and database was gone and when I tried contacting them, they told me they don't have a backup for it. It was really a sad one for me and I have no option to start again and I accept my fate and even fault myself for not renewing the hosting on time. Fast forward to yesterday, a new video subscription platform I just finished doing for a client crashed yesterday and the link no longer opening showing disc error. I bought this domain name and hosting for this website just a week ago. I contacted them yesterday when it happened and they told me they will recover it, fast forward to today, they sent me a mail regretting to tell me that the files and database are gone, just a week ago, they told me same thing on my other site and the worst is I work on this projects online and really don't have the contents again except the design.
Now, client on my neck thinking I'm the cause.
I called Smartweb agent some moment ago and it seems nothing can be done and all they could do is 1 month hosting free!
Currently, I'm thinking about to sue them!
Please help me judge this here?
Please should I go ahead?

I was introduced to the group platinum investment on telegram, they have over 1000 members on the group, every one of them on the group seem to only have positive comments to share about the platform, how they've been investing and getting returns steadily.

THEIR PACKAGE
for first timers they give double investment, however the minimum investment is 50,000naira

Invest
50,000 get 100,000
100,000 get 200,000
500,000 get 1,000000

you get the idea

Then for old members
Any amount you invest, 50,000 being the minimum you get 50% of that investment

Invest
50,000 get 25,000
100,000 get 50,000
200,000 get 100,000
500,000 get 250,000

You get the idea

Is there anyone here on nairaland, , who knows about this platform, or have you invested with this platform, if yes share your experience of investing with them.

is it legit or a scam

this is the link to the website

http://platinuminvestment.herokuapp.com/
They are dull scammers and it can be seen from just their website link. They can not even purchase a hosting and are using free hosting from heroku.

what's fintech boss ?
Financial technology is the technology and innovation that aims to compete with traditional financial methods in the delivery of financial services.
Examples in Nigeria are Opay, Paga, Quickteller.
I know of a start-up that you can invest with. Send me a mail to know more.

Hello Nairalanders Ive been thinking about what business I can venture into or investment I can do with 200k ,I've been able to save this up for sometime now and I need a legit business I can start with this or any investment, please if you got any ideas let me know id be glad to read em
You can startup a POS business by becoming an agent with Opay, Paga etc. or you can as well run the business independently by doing your own fintech website and meet up your bank for free POS. This business is really booming this period.
You can as well become a baba ijebu agent. Just do a market research in your environment and search for a place that the agents are limited. It's a very lucrative business.

Good morning my fellow business men/women.

I'm in need of advise.

Right now, I have access to 2m that I want to invest.

I currently have a bet shop (betking) and a POS stand both doing very fine.

But the major is that I want to expand, as one needs to diverse it's investment.

With the 2m, I have in mind of opening another betshop in different locationND add POS to it. With 700_800k I'm done.

Then I want to buy a mini bus to give out to hire purchase.
This the major problem as people keep discouraging me from doing this.
A friend said I will regret buying the bus, istead I should buy land ND keep to resell later.
But as an upcoming entrepreneur, I don't need to invest in land as I want investment that involves cash flowing to enable me grow fast.

Please can anyone advise me here, I really want to buy the mini bus.

Advice needed please.
Nice plans you have. I will advice you to only purchase that mini bus if you will personally drive it. Moreover, I don't think the transportation business is really booming due to the pandemic.
Although, I don't know your current location, however, Food is constantly essential. You can rent a shop and startup a restaurant, do some billboard advert and can as well digitize it by creating a website and/or app where people can order and get the food delivered around your area.
You can as well open a bakery. Here in my area, there is only one bakery and the area has a population of thousands of inhabitants and hundreds of shops. You can startup yours by employing professional bakers and doing your own unique style of baking the bread and doing home delivery.
You can also startup a food processing and start with frozen food production, Hope these helps.

ProgrammingRe: Must I Become A Programmer To Own A Start-up? by Mannyemmy(m): 9:35am On May 23, 2020
litigator:
I am also a business person and an internet addict. I am presently taking courses in marketing, python and data analysis.

Well! I don't have the funds to bank role it at this time. But what I was hoping to do was see if I can put a team of like minds together and we work on part time basis while keeping our regular jobs.

Their equity contribution will be translated into share holding.
You don't have to necessarily be a programmer to own a startup.
You just have to be smart and business minded.
Jack Ma was never a programmer, he was bad at maths and got his first computer at 33 but he was very smart and report has it that he was able to convince 17 friends to work with him and they all founded the multibillionaire e-commerce platform will know today, "Alibaba".
The founder of Amazon "Jeff Bezos" is not a programmer.
Hence, the idea you have can render services to Nigerians and Africans, you can hire a programmer to get the platform done for you. Nowadays, getting programmers to form a startup with you without any form of financial consolidation to them is difficult.
Moreover, if you are not financially buoyant to establish it yourself, you can either seek a loan or pitch to investors.
