And moreover, many of you blame Buhari for where the country is today. The only fault of Buhari is that in a presidential system of government, the buck falls at his table.

But in reality, what is happening to us today did not begin in 2015. It began in the late 1970s - early 1980s under Shehu Shagari when we began to import rice. Nigeria never recovered from the introduction of import license.

Over the years, we went from export reliant to import reliant. Our agriculture died, and oil became the major export. Corruption also took centre stage under Shagari and Buhari treated it selectively. It got even worse under Babangida, and got even worse and worse. Presently, corruption is now a part of the country.

It appears like things have become even worse under Buhari because things have become generally worse for everyone in the world.

The oil slump affected oil reliant countries like Nigeria and Venezuela. If past governments (especially from 1999) had diversified away from oil, we would not have fared as badly as we did.

While we were coming out of the ensuring recession, we had another major oil slump, and then there was Covid-19, and then the Russian invasion.
