5DMindset: You have no idea how to communicate. That is why you are a slave to your own emotion. The governor of that State is just confused. He wants to be in the News. He wants to be seen and heard doing something. So the first idea to enter his mind, he rushes to the Press with excitement. Do you need a Press to set up a committee ? And what does he even need a Committee for ? We have Commission of Agriculture in that State and we Have Faculty of Agriculture in your University.
Let me educate you, son. It is the Duty of the Commissioner of Agriculture, to meet a research Team in the Agric Faculty to gather data on the topography, soil test, growth yield of specific breeds of palm and decide on the best specie. Then the data is presented to a Business Devt Unit, that is where the Ministry of Industry/Commerce comes in. You get a PPP blueprint in place and study case studies and propose the best option for the State, before presenting final findings to the Government House. The Governor looks at the gazette and approve land and make compensation available to communities. Then with this on ground, you bring in a technical partner and draw up the JV agreement.
It is during ground breaking that the Press is involved, annoucing to the world their new Agro Drive.
I do not have words to exchange with you, because you have limited knowledge of this world. Exchanging words with you should be to help you gain wisdom which you clearly lack. Which is why you insult others because you have no intelligence to share, but hatred to spread.
Do not respond to me. I have no time for those who refuse to grow mentally and emotionally. Rather I will not waste my time on an unintelligent fellow in you..... honestly speaking |

i think i wrote about this in 2009 about the wastefulness of government. ...not that I'm doubting.....but this your story get k-Leg or may be not well articulated. You cannot dredge a river and less that 3yrs, sand will have back-filled it again........ |

Very simple question and simple answer, some people are just playing around the bush making us to believe that GEJ didn't do anything. 5DMindset: What happened to executing the project before coming to Press ? There is no feasibility study, to blueprints, no case studies not even the plan of action, yet you come to Press to air out your State's Industrial Secret, now other States Governors could just pick up the idea and execute them, if we had real governors, not these thieves that into construction of airports and gutters. This your needless arrogance, fueled by ignorance is unwarranted. If you had bothered to read the report well enough, you would have seen this The governor announced this yesterday at the Edo State Government House in Benin when a 14-member committee set up to develop an oil palm plan for the state presented its report to him. It is ironical that some of you just show off ignorance with your textbook analysis. Meanwhile there is no law that determine when to come to press, but if you had thought deep enough you will have seen that among many others, these are meant to signal potential investors of Edo state readiness to do business in Palm Oil. |

What's the point setting up a manufacturing facilities when critical issues facing our infrastructure and society at large (abysmal power supply, poor transport network, security issues, extremely harsh investment climate, etc) are yet to be addressed? He has no point.....and the moment you stop following stupid notions, dumb and not ill-conceived logic, useless thinking and brainless submissions, the better for you. 1. The minister spoke in simple terms - "teach us how to fish, rather than give us fish". Which country in her senses will still want to be import dependent at this age and time? Even America is forcing foreign companies to bring back their production plants and Human resource base to the US. 2. The Power argument is as useless as it sounds. It shows that not only are some of you not current, you refuse to think. Companies build cost of generating power into their capital cost. In todays world of alternative power, why in the world will someone be mentioning "NEPA" (he even said NEPA)? 3. Many of you do not study, read or follow trends in time. Currently, the power arrangements allow companies to generate their own power, or partner with Discos to generate embedded power. There are even off-grid options. So if the only point you lot cling unto, albeit ignorantly and unintelligently, is the issue of power, then you are simply foolish. |

Each time I travel through the muritala bridge b4 lokoja, I ask myself why will GEJ from south south think of dredging the river which at the end of the day leads to the economic advancement of the north. Can a northern government thinks about this kinda of laudable project for the south south or south east of this country.

pacino26: I wish most NL mentions will be like the ones we've been having. Nice outline though. ....@Seun we need a thumb-up emoticon My definition of Kogi been landlocked is relative to the fact that it's not open to the high seas or ocean. River Niger from upper Volta isn't promoting the kind of trade we need or add anticipated by Amechi. ....Our dredging aspirations and execution ideally is a process. The longer objective is to connect all the water ways. There must be some cetral hubs with access to larger waters. River Niger should be linked to the inner water ways.....
Comparing use of pipelines to barges is completely out of the question. Pipelines are better but you know also is not working for refined products especially in the Niger Delta ....Yes, But I believe if we stay the course and see our diversification aspiration through, each region will be incentivised to protect assets and infrastructures within their domain. Don't get me wrong, barges are good complement to moving both crude oil out and refined products in, but they cannot serve as the absolute means
Since the ministry is taking the path of direct labor, they should consider those routes mentioned.....I agree. We should have a mid-long term strategic plan that says when and how the routes will be connected
Mind you, there are other products to be exported from these areas to you know. Minerals from Ebonyi and Co. They can easily find their way out. ....Agreed. It depends on the potential volume of trade which can be stimulated by govt anyways. The approach is to have a central hub, say Onitsha and get good to be moved either by road, rail and small barges to the hub and from thence out
Cheers bro. Cheers to you too Bro. |

GEJ is simply a misfit and a mishap. I see GEJ's dilema as a classic case explained below The late Gbenga Adeboye (Legendary Yoruba Comedian of the 80s-90s) once related an ode on victim mentality. He likened it to a musician that rose to fame blaming and abusing everybody. He said if the person tries to sing another "Genre" of music, He will be a failure at it, so he advised that he should continue albeit on his "destructive" path. He reasoned that he will blame and insult all his fellow musicians, he will blame and insult his family members, neighours and villagers. For want of further excuses, he will blame witches and wizards and all cosmic spirits. Not contented he will blame and insult Jesus Christ and even Mohammed...... and then end up in destruction |

ehissi: Please be a little objective in the least. It is the tradition of the EFCC of late to give press conferences stating the looted amount, where it was found, when it was found and who owns or is linked to the cash.
No official press statement of the EFCC has been released on the actual owner till date. Only speculatory statements from anonymous sources backed up with picture. Oke could have been suspended for any and many reason.
Let EFCC at least maintain their transparency by stating it was Oke who hid the cash on the orders of Jonathan; them no gree. The have left that Job for people like you who will eagerly accept anything social media throws at them.
Come to think of it, speculatory reports in blogosphere are claiming Jonathan approved the release and diversion of such funds officially. Considering how much EFCC has worked so hard to implicate Jonathan, one would have thought they would have happily dished out a press conference to implicate the more, instead of secretly misleading Nigerians via social media.
When the loot was first discovered, EFCC handle claimed the money belonged to an unnamed Abuja politician, what happened to that story and why did they refuse ti name the politician to date?
Only God knows...... First off, EFCC cannot make a categorical statement on the ownership of the money without concrete investigation and evidence admissible in court. If you're asking for transparency, that was what EFCC did. The first move was to alert the nation to the existence of the money and to secure the money through the courts, by a temporary forfeiture order, pending detailed investigation As per the bolded part, it is only an idiot that will make official press statement based on blogs and other social media as references But pray tell! has Oke not made the job easier for the EFCC? He came forward to claim the money, even with documentary evidence. That is a credible line to commence investigation and that is what FG is doing |

Once again all the links I provided is saying otherwise from what you're saying. after the single year budget they are yet to get the required $2b that is needed to run the steel company abi did any of the link say that government have make provision for $2b ? You do not need to wait till they finish dredging to make a lucid and well articulated argument. From your arguement, I see that you are so ill-informed. Ajaokuta to Bayelsa? Haba? Do you think this is child's play? What is the volume of business in Bayelsa today or projected 30yrs that they will direct such resources to and ignore Onitsha, a commercial hub of the East? wrt the links, I think the issue is with you not comprehending. It's this simple. They need $2b in total. That $2b will involve equity contributions of both government and private sector participant who the plant is concessioned to. Besides the $2b will not be raised in one single year, simple project economics tells you that capital outlay may be spread over 3-5yrs. I think you should go find out about the state of the plant, how Y'Ardua's govt concessioned it to an Indian firm, how GEJ cancelled the concession arrangement, how the Indians went to court and nobody was able to run the plant....to how the current govt has just settled out of court to allow the Indians return back on renegotiated terms. |

pacino26: I like being realistic, the tanker accidents occurring daily in Lagos-East bound highways could reduce drastically. Vessels laden with imported goods can easily find their way in. Kogi is landlocked my brother, what gets shipped from those areas are mostly cattle and foodstuffs. Already the trucks are doing a great job.
Let's be objective and stop the propaganda on agriculture when they are still cooking Thai parboiled rice in the state house. It's not for the IOCs alone but the trade along the south. Bros, If you require objectivity, I think you should look at the mirror. Let's talk about facts..... 1. The proposed Gas Industrial Park which was muted by the GEJ administration (team under the leadership of Dr. David Ige, the then ED Gas & Power at NNPC) had to be moved from Koko to Ogidigben. Why? Because it will require dredging of the river for ships of the required magnitude to get to Koko. The FG stated in clear terms that the Gas park will be private sector driven. The private sector participants looked at the investment and the cost of dredging, and was not willing to take up[ the cost. So the middle ground was to move to Ogidigben where the cost of dredging will be relatively cost effective. 2. Secondly, talking about moving petroleum products, barging is not a cost effective approach to move inland petroleum products. The use of water-ways is more prominent for outbound movement of products which are usually picked up at designated terminals (Forcados, Escravos). These terminals are located as strategic points that are never inland. You cannot effectively move required volumes and at required times relying on barges. Pipelines are still the way to go, and todays technology allows you to bury pipelines over 30meters underneath the ground, sea and river. So your purported realistic stand is uninformed. 3. Kogi is landlocked? where did you get that from? 4. Propaganda on Agriculture? I think you are either willfully ignorant or just in denial. How can you call Agriculture propaganda when globally there is food shortage? Why would a country with massive land mass not be involved in agriculture. Yes, people are still cooking Thailand rice, but if you were to volunteer opinion for the govt, you will suggest we dump agriculture? |
