Do not be decieved. No one can stop the house from probing Fashola if they do it right. And no one will certainly stop them from doing so. The problem was some people here suggesting Fashola should have started arguing with a faceless group online/in the media when he could be doing what he was elected for.
Let the house probe him. If he has done anything wrong then the EFCC can get involved. I believe the EFCC have also annouced that they are investigating petitions raised against him.

I disagree. We always claim the government wastes money. So if they feet there is no case to answer or, they feel the government doesn't have a case, then there is no need spending the additional money, wasting additional man hours, wasting the court's time etc. Dropping the case was the logical and corrent choice.

THE  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the issues raised in the corruption allegations against the Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, told the Nigerian Tribune that the petition detailing alleged corrupt practices by the governor in the handling of the state’s finances was receiving the attention of the agency, just like any other petition.

Speaking on the matter, Honourable Jimoh Adewale (Apapa I), suggested that the group should go back and make another  advertorial retracting the allegation against members of the House, so that they could be saved from embarrassment which the group had caused the House through its previous  advertorial.

Speaking in the same vein, Honourable Alawiye King (Lagos Island I), urged his colleague to be careful because they were giving the group unnecessary and undue attention, just as he said their publication had distracted the House.

In the submission of the Speaker, he urged other groups with similar allegations to feel free and approach the House with their facts.

Telling people to go to EFCC or ICPC is like telling people to go to the FBI, CIA Or even the US ARMY OR INTERPOL when they need to get answers from their state government.   

Like I said, let us STOP moving the marker on what Democracy gives us access to. It is in clear English what it does.

You are requesting a public official to respond publicly (in my opinion to get into a public argument) to very serious allegations made against him publicly, by people not authorised to enforce the laws they are claiming he has broken. In addition, said allegations are being made close to an election year. Did I miss anything?

Democracy is suppossed to give you access to transperancy and accountability. If you do not trust/like/believe your government, then vote it out.

As an after thought, what exactly is Fashola responding publicly to these allegations suppossed to achieve?

It is clear that Government is OBLIGATED to provide information necessary to help answer questions, criticisms etc of the administration to individuals, groups, companies etc in the area. What are you talking about? Government is not OBLIGATED to provide any such information unless the majority of the people request such information. This can be done through street protests for example.
If Fashola is in no danger of losing the next election, it means he has the support of the public and so has no need to respond to any such question, criticism etc.

Now fowarding these allegations to an appropiate law enforcement agency if said allegations are of a criminal nature or bringing a civil law suit against the goverment may force said government to make a response. Nairaland and Newspapers are neither of these.
