Ok I recieved some new information. This may be inaccurate though.
5 of the 6 humanitarian ships complied with the Isreali Navy request and were then being diverted to an Isreali port without being boarded. The main ship where all the trouble happened refused and was then boarded. The rest right now is history. Death toll is now being revised to at least 9 dead.
Just to add one thing over legality. i have been informed that the Isreali's had a legal right to board the ships.
SECTION V : NEUTRAL MERCHANT VESSELS AND CIVIL AIRCRAFT
Neutral merchant vessels
67. Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they:
(a) are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture; (b) engage in belligerent acts on behalf of the enemy; (c) act as auxiliaries to the enemy s armed forces; (d) are incorporated into or assist the enemy s intelligence system; (e) sail under convoy of enemy warships or military aircraft; or (f) otherwise make an effective contribution to the enemy s military action, e.g., by carrying military materials, and it is not feasible for the attacking forces to first place passengers and crew in a place of safety. Unless circumstances do not permit, they are to be given a warning, so that they can re-route, off-load, or take other precautions.
edoyad: Gullibility is a biatch, you actually believe armed people with intent to kill would be raided by commandoes and none of the commandoes would be dead ? No suicide bombing, nothing ? You must be kidding me.
Gullibility? Who is really being gullible here. Are you attempting to suggest that because there was no fatality on the Isreali side then they must have fired first? Why suicide bombs? Would it interest you to know that 10 Isreali's were injured, 1 critically. Does that sound better?
We still do not know exactly what happened and I for one will wait until the dramatisation has died down before drawing any conclusions. I find it unusual that with so many journalists onboard, and with live streaming from the ships that there are no suitable video accounts of the initial confrontation from those on the ship. There is a short clip from the bbc which I think came from a Turkey TV network showing an Isreali navy personel being attacked with iron rods as he roped down from a helicopter. I want to know how those 10/19 people died. Surely someone on the ships must have footage.
I can't find any videos from passengers on the ship during the actual boarding which is surprising considering the number of journalists on board. Lot's of news reports but no footage of the actual confrontation that can actually shed some light on this.
Another point to consider. There were 6 ships. The other boats were taken over without violence as with previous occassions when Gaza aid ships have been intercepted.
The violence occurred on only one ship. Why?
Short excerpt from a news report
There were conflicting accounts of what happened early Monday, with activists claiming the Israelis fired first and Israel insisting its forces fired in self defense. Communications to the ships were cut off shortly after the raid began.
An Israeli commando who spoke to reporters on a naval vessel off the coast, and who was identified only by the first letter of his name, "A," said he and his comrades were surprised by a group of Arabic-speaking men when they rapelled onto the deck.
He said some of the soldiers, taken off guard, were stripped of their helmets and equipment and thrown from the top deck to the lower deck, and that some had even jumped overboard to save themselves. At one point one of the passengers seized one of the soldiers' weapons and opened fire.
A high-ranking naval official displayed a box confiscated from the boat containing switchblades, slingshots, metal balls and metal bats. "We prepared (the soldiers) to deal with peace activists, not to fight," he said. Most of the 10 dead were Turkish, he added.
A Turkish website showed video of pandemonium on board one of the ships, with activists in orange life jackets running around as some tried to help an activist apparently unconscious on the deck. The site also showed video of an Israeli helicopter flying overhead and Israeli warships nearby.
Turkey's NTV showed activists beating one Israeli soldier with sticks as he rappelled from a helicopter onto one of the boats.
Activists said Israeli naval commandos stormed the ships after ordering them to stop in international waters, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) from Gaza's coast.
An Al-Jazeera reporter on one of the Turkish ships said the Israelis fired at the vessel before boarding it. The pan-Arab satellite channel reported by telephone from the Turkish ship leading the flotilla that Israeli navy forces fired at the ship and boarded it, wounding the captain.
"These savages are killing people here, please help," a Turkish television reporter said.
The broadcast ended with a voice shouting in Hebrew, "Everybody shut up!"
In a news conference in Tel Aviv, Israel's military chief of staff and navy commander said the troops were able to take over the five other boats without incident and all of the violence was centered on the boat carrying most of the flotilla's passengers, the Turkish-owned Mavi Marmara.
Troops were attacked, said Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, and an unspecified number of troops were helicoptered to hospital suffering from gunshots, knife wounds and blows.
"To me it is clear without a doubt, judging by what I saw and what I heard in the first reports from the soldiers, that in light of the danger to human life this violence required the use of weapons, and in my opinion the soldiers acted as they should have in this situation," Ashkenazi said.
In the next few days, the truth will slowly start to slip out. If there were weapons on board, then you can expect the Hamas apologists will change their tone from crime/massacre/murder etc to disproportionate use of force (i.e. Isreali's should have responded with knives and sticks as well. Or maybe should have used kung fu. )
This is not the first time Israel has intercepted a Gaza aid ship trying to force it's way through the blockade. So what was different this time? What caused this one to be so violent? Time will tell.
udezue: Do I look like I need your sympathy if anything was to happen? Why don't u worry about your region on the verge of being wiped off by invading Fulani than worry about Palestinians who can't locate your black behind on a map? Israel was never my saint.
calid16: After a hard week's work, head to Jozi for the weekend to shake my off the stress and Wala. The Nigerian parasites be dealing drugs all over and making fo.o.ls of themselves with the women, they think cos they've got cheap jewelry from the flea market that'll make the women like em. They really dumb folks cos most of the girls who even look at them are hook.e.rs from zimbabwe who are desperate, but the semi literate dumbos don't know ofcourse. They become HIV positive and become a burden on us for what ? I pity their women cos they're hard working doctors and nurses who end up marrying foreigners cos they can't find peers of same nationality. My friend who runs a lab never let's anyone she's Nigerian cos of that her compatriot male dogs be doing all over the place.
Fair enough. However, have you asked yourself who is buying the drugs? Where is the demand coming from? It's certainly not the hookers, or the reasonable girls who pay the drug dealers no attention. The drug dealers won't be selling to themselves. So who really is providing the demand for the drugs?
Afam: That you admit to be intellectually inferior to davidylan is your own problem.
On this forum the same person that has severally claimed that Palestine did not exist until 1964 when PLO was formed came out and told us that Palestine has been there since the time of the bible.
Abi dem curse you with olodoness?
Stop over-reaching Afam. Don't try to over exert those 2 over worked brain cells you have reserved for thinking. Concentrate on how your stupidity was so easily exposed. Then apply that new knowledge to the topic you were arguing so blindly over. You may learn something.
Forget about going off topic by trying to attack me.
Wow this thing is still going on? Even though the Lagos assembly are probing the so called "claims of corruption" made by "true face" against Fashola, people are still complaining? What exactly do they want Fashola to do?
It left Earth 33 years ago, now it’s claimed the Voyager 2 spacecraft may have been hijacked by aliens after sending back data messages NASA scientists can’t decode. NASA installed a 12-inch disk containing music and greetings in 55 languages in case intelligent extraterrestrial life ever found it. But now the spacecraft is sending back what sounds like an answer: Signals in an unknown data format! The best scientific minds have so far not been able to decipher the strange information – is it a secret message? Alien expert Hartwig Hausdorf said:”It seems almost as if someone had reprogrammed or hijacked the probe – thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth.

Funny how this is setting up to play out like a movie. "Oh intelligent life highjacked our spacecraft, they are intelligent enough to recognise a question/message we sent, yet they are not intelligent enough to communicate a question/message back to us using our own format that they recognised." *rolleyes*
I like the way you completely demolished the lies some tried to potray as accurate history. They come here with absolutely zero knowlegde on the history of Palestine and try to argue about how it is Arab land.

Otobroto: Evidence that TRUE FACE OF LAGOS HAVE STARTED SUBMITTING EVIDENCES, AND MORE IF ALLOWED:
Fashola: True face of Lagos presents documents to probe panel By Oziegbe Okoeki Published 28/04/2010 News Rating:
A group, True face of Lagos, yesterday asked the Lagos State House of Assembly to hasten its probe of Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) based on its catalogue of allegations.
Led by its President Mr. Adeshina Adebayo, members of the group told the Ad-hoc committee of the House set up to investigate the allegations promised to tender all the documentary evidence to backup their claims.
Adeshina presented to the committee two documents detailing the contracts awarded by the ministries of Works and Health, maintaining that an account should be properly rendered.
He said it was wrong for one company, Deux to get 11 out of 19 contracts which it failed to execute to specification despite the fact that it had collected 50 – 70 per cent down payment.
Some of the allegations, like the N250million to NBA, N420m for private security, huge amount spent on beautification and the importation of palm trees from Niger Republic, Adeshina said are moral burden on the government, because the funds could have been expended on more pressing needs of the people.
He said the group could not come with more documents for security reasons as they were at different locations due to series of attack on his premises.
Although, he said documents for all the allegations cannot be presented, he however promised that he would come with more documents when next he appears before the panel.
Quizzed on how he came about the documents, Adeshina said he got them from some patriotic individuals within the state civil service, "which triggered off our action when we were convinced that many of the allegations could stand the test of time". But he refused to disclose who the individuals are.
According to him, majority of the issues, has to do with following due process and the House not giving approval for some of the expenditures.
Members of the committee were however, not too happy with the presentation as they expected the group to be more forthcoming with facts.
According to Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, we want you to prove to Lagosians and Nigerians that these allegations are not baseless because this has actually heated up the polity.
The Chairman of the committee who is also the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye, advised the group leader to see committee members privately if he has some information he cannot disclose publicly, "as much as possible we want evidences to back up most of these allegations", Adeyeye said.
The amount of stupidity on display in this scenario with "True Face" is outrageous. The Lagos assembly are quickly making themselves into a joke by encouraging these fools. Someone somewhere is mistaking the real world for a nollywood movie.
Kobojunkie: the entire airport development which the governor expects to be operational by 2013(less than the 5 which I had posted earlier from another site).
I hope you are all hurting bad. The airport will be built. Fashola will be reelected. Lagos will advance. If these things hurt you so much there are simple things you can do to end the pain. You will never have to hear about Lagos progressing again.
jokingmary: I commend him but on second thoughts beggers littered on the streets of lagos and refuges decorating every where etc, I think he should solve these problems before building a second airport
Solve them how? If the beggers don't make enough money to lift themselves from poverty by begging from the private sector (You and I). Then how is Fashola going to convince the same private sector to give him their money so he can feed, house, and cloth all those beggers?
The thing is no matter how hard some folks on here whine, cry, whale, gnash their teeth, the airport will go ahead. Other projects will go ahead. Lagos will go ahead. If you folks don't like it, go jump into the nearest river or go make yourself feel better by watching welcome to lagos. Pure and Simple.
Ikengawo: Why do nigerians always feel the need to be sensitive?
Look. These are nigerians in this video. they are ppl with a unique story and it's not only interesting but fascinating.
the bbc could make a documentary about bank employees in nigeria, but that's boring and useless.
we know lagos has nice things, but lets stop acting like these ppl dont exist. They are humans and have the right to have their story told
now if you white friend is ignorant enough to believe that EVERYONe in the city of 16 million is a scavenger then stop considering your friends opinion as valid because they are silly and you're silly for respecting their stupidity to the point that you do want the stories of these nigerians told.
i know lagos. you know lagos. we all know lagos. everyone that matters knows lagos, everyone that doesn't matter doesn't know lagos. so lets stop hoping everything that reaches the rest of the world from nigeria is totally sugar coated and compromised. This documentary to a silly man is about trash, to an intelligent person its about making something out of nothing and an incredible enduring brillance and work ethic,. all the documentary shows me is that nigerians are the hardest working ppl in the world
The BBC can go film the colour of Lagos feaces for all I care. What I have a problem with is the retarded producer allowing things like "3/4 of Lagos is covered by slums" to be said on the show. That is unacceptable and the government is right to call out such misrepresentation. The show is suppossed to be factual and not comedy after all.
Chelsea have benefited more from dubious decisions this season. Terry kept fouling, pulling shirts, handling the ball and Drogba scored a ghost goal in the biggest game of the season some weeks ago at OT. If we come down to the basics, Chelsea should be 4th.
Chelsea have scored an average of 4.17 goals per game in matches that Didier Drogba has missed this season compared to 2.14 when he has played.
Surely, Drogba must be POISON to Chelsea's title challenge.
Don't strain your neck looking up.
