I just want to draw your attention to the 3rd paragraph, please read it again.
The OP after saying his morning devotion, committed the day into God's hands so that he can be favored that day. He never knew he was gonna meet the gov. He was even praying all the while he was waiting.
It was just not meant to be at that point in time is what I believe.
lol. Don't mind these pathetic mighty defenders of god. They will always craft a reason for god not answering prayers. To them, god cannot be at fault. I am sure that as you have pointed this out, the story will change to "... god works in mysterious ways", "... god has a better plan " etc. Mtewwww.

A stupid man suffers the most even without knowing. It's high time our youths discover the following:
1) Our leaders don't give a Bleep about unemployed youths. Unemployed youths or students overstaying in school due to indefinite strikes mean nothing them.

2) There is no god anywhere that helps people and prayer is useless. Utterly useless. Religion, voodoo, spells and curses, charms and incantation, psychics and other world mysticism are ridiculous garbages and should be done away with. If you need a future for yourself and posterity, it has to be worked out by man.

3) Nigeria is long due for a revolution staged by the suffering masses. Revolt or shut the Bleep up. If you think studying chemistry in the university and selling bags of rice to make ends meet after graduation, due to unemployment, is normal and is humility, then shut the Bleep up.

4) Revolution is not easy, if you like your life and you so much want to save your skin, live comfortable and just get by then shut the Bleep up and stop complaining. If you want change fight for it, no god will do it for you. If you like don't revolt, stay there and be committing everything into gods hands. The day the system will frustrate you and you will commit suicide, life and government will move on.

5) Never trust a Nigerian politician to be honest. They are heartless and don't give a shit about you.

What I mean is that how you'd think you'd do in theory might not be what you'd do if the situation really comes up. I spoke generally and not just restricted to the OP's question

for instance you'd hear someone say they'd run and tackle a shooter shooting up a school then say those that froze and didn't do anything while the shooter kept killing people are cowards. Such person calling others cowards may have frozen too if he were in that situation but sitting at the comfort if his own laptop with his heart pumping normally and his head totally clear made him think he would've been the hero
Eg. Those that once told themselves "no matter what happens, I will never commit suicide" and some years later things happened in their lives and they understood the state of mind of suicide victims.

AgentOfAllah:
I agree with the assessment that this question does not convey any sense because it is not self-consistent. My reasons are laid out as follows:

(1) To suggest there would be no consequence, as the second clause does, implies that the sudden remission would neither have a positive nor a negative effect. In other words, no one will suffer any harm by the remission, and at the same time, the money won't be useful to anyone in any way. This is an absurd clause that immediately makes the question of no practical relevance.

(2) Let's say we address the absurdity with the axiom that "for every event, there is a consequence". We would then be able to reframe the second clause of the question with a more appropriate predicate; that is, there would be no NEGATIVE consequence. This then exposes the paradoxical nature of the question because there still remains the problem of certainty which is imposed by the second clause. Here, it is implied that the recipient is certain that there is an absence of harm. The only pathway through which this is humanly possible is if the previous owner voluntarily ceded ownership to me, the recipient, and made me aware of this concession. In this case, the question of returning it to its "rightful owner" makes no sense because I am now the rightful owner.

I see no other way through which my certainty of the absence of harm can coexist with the idea that I am not the rightful owner, but it is also possible that I may not have been exhaustive in my reasoning. So maybe op can make further clarifications.
Calm down. This philosophy is way too much. When I said "have no consequences", I simply meant no consequences to you if you abscond with the cash. You won't be caught and no one would know you stole the money. That's the meaning of the assumption.

In a perfect world I'd definitely send it back, inafct the mistake of sending money to your account couldn't have happened in that world

But in this imperfect world, What I'd do is return it to the rightful owner but I'd make sure its the rightful owner I'm returning it to not a criminal who would take advantage of it like if you return found money to the Nigeria police you're just making who you handed over the money to rich as he's not the rightful owner and all they'll tell you is that they would return the money to whoever reports missing money but that's the end of it

For such a big amount of money like you stated its too big for you to even run away with as its close to $2M which means you can be rest assured it would be rectified unless it was intentionally put there by a generous person who just wanted to dish you such an amount and you can always trace such to the sender if you so desire

I'd wait for a few days to see if bank would contact me or rectify it. if they don't I'd presume someone really just sent me the money, although I'd consult my lawyer to find out the legality of my possessing the money to avoid legal troubles and if I'm in the clear its mine

Note that what you think you'd do when imagining such scenario and what you'd do if such scenario comes up might actually differ from each other
True. Sometimes we surprise ourselves.

Given the following:
1) you suddenly saw #547,000,000 in your bank account.
2) you can take the money secretly, no one will found, the money would be yours forever and there won't be any consequences.

Would you take the #547m or will you give it back to the rightful owner?

Yes! It is never foolishness to pray at this point, who knows, God may answer.

But it is still under God's prerogative right to answer or not.

jFrankNorfleet:
Some excuses are found in the Bible itself. Even more are just passed around in countless sermons and other elements of Christian culture. God will answer your prayers? Sure, except when he won’t because you don’t have enough faith. Or because they are not consistent with his will. Or because his perfect time hasn’t happened yet. Or because you have selfish motives for praying. Or because of countless other reasons, often made up on the spot. God will protect you from evil? Sure, except when he won’t because he wants to teach you a lesson. Or because he has different plans for you and you just don’t understand them. God will heal the sick, feed the hungry, save the lost? Sure, except when he won’t. The fine print keeps accumulating, up to the point when you are not really sure what to expect anymore.

Perhaps I could have kept up with the excuses for much longer, if they weren’t so poorly and inconsistently defined. I could have understood that God doesn’t want to answer prayers which are inconsistent with his will, if there was any simple way to know what his will is and what it isn’t – but there is none. You are supposed to “let the Spirit guide you”, study the Bible and learn to listen to the voice of Jesus on your heart, but you never know for sure if you heard it right or read the Bible right. The same for every other excuse – how are you supposed to know whether you have “enough” faith or not? How are you supposed to know if your motives are pure enough? You are left with constant guessing, expecting less and less from God until your faith is reduced to some intellectual conviction with no discernible bearing on reality. This wasn’t what I signed up for.
You are getting there. To save you the stress and shorten your journey to atheism, I will tell you that all world religion, voodoo, charms, curses and spells and ALL other world mysticisms are bullshit and ridiculous garbage.

Hey! Let me repeat it for the Upton time, ONLY A COWARD TAKE THEIR OWN LIFE!

Bro, it doesn't solve anything. It breeds more pain for those left behind.

The best is to look for help from the right ones...work on your mental strength and find solace in something, ur friend or family, music, activities, mosque or church fate. Never isolate your self...that is the first damage depression does. Have it at the back of your mind that the worst has happened and you MUST conquer the worst because it is just a 'test' of who you are.

I have seen people suffered a quantum losses, damage and they pulled through to be a fighter.

Every phase of life is just like a story book, the ups and downs are what makes your story worth reading.

Never end your story by yourself.

My friend, you may as well go and die and think your creation came about by some random self-assembly.
I don't care.
Some of you who blame religion also subtly start a religion of worshipping the self by following the intellect when it as being proven that there are many things humans are yet to disvove about this life yet some of you with over bloated intellect think you monkey point of view can't go beyond the reality you thinkyou understand.
To show how intellectually handicapped you are you left out a huge chunk of what I said that placed my point not far from reality without leaving out external influence from God.
I hope all your life everything you've planned each day came out exactly the way you wanted it,if you say that is how it happened then I will conclude I am talking with biggest liar alive.
You can NEVER leave out God's influence on this life no matter how you live in deny.
Even your replying my message was not part you plan today, but was a result of what God decreed which you would never guess a thousand years from now.
In a nutshell, what I believe as a muslim is pure and simple which is "tie you camel and rely on God " which in reality means: do you part and leave the rest to God.
Shekinan!
There is no need to quarrel.

1) I don't believe in religion because there is no good answer sound reason to do so.
2) I don't worship myself even though my self is most qualified to stand as my god.
3) I have never said I knew everything. The fact that some things are beyond me doesn't mean that I should believe any Holy book that has it's own ready made answers.
4) My life isn't exactly what I planned. There have been unexpected ups and down.
5) My post meant that some people are being mislead by religion to abandon realistic solutions for unrealistic solutions eg. children who died because their parents turned to prayer instead of seeking medical care.

one thing you don't know is, once you bring a child to this world, you will surely take care of him/her and you won't be alone in doing that. Except you don't just want to. No matter how poor a person is, that very day something gets to challenge him/her, his story start to become better that very same day. I remember back then in my high school days, i have this friend, he was one f**ker and one unserious student, he mistakenly impregnated a lady just about 6 months after high school and all he wanted was to commit suicide that year. Buh he started doing things (jobs) he wouldn't have done, we all depend on our parents, buh he started taking himself off our circle, he started earning while we all wait on our parents before we do this and that. Long story short, now my guy has a mansion, car and a better life now while the rest of us are still hustling upandan. Anytime i see him and his boy on facebook, i can't buh JE-LUX.
This doesn't apply to everyone in this case. In fact, it applies to very little people in this case. If you can't take care of a child, don't born. Your friend worked many jobs and he has a mansion? Tell me more. So anyone who is foolish to give birth in poverty and work many jobs will build a mansion? Gosh grin, you think life is like that.

Rubbish, the most wicked thing anybody can do on earth is to give birth to children they can't take care of. If you know you're not financially stable I don't see reason why you should even think about marriage.
