The Anambra State government has begun the immediate evacuation of residents living in riverine communities of the state as a result of flooding that is spreading due to rising water levels in the River Niger and Benue in the past few days.

It was gathered that some of the communities already hit by the flood include the Ogbaru, Anambra West, and Ayamelum local government areas of the state.

Our correspondent, who visited the Atani community in Ogbaru LG on Friday, observed that the flood has spread around the community with every activity at a standstill.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Paul Odenigbo, who disclosed the news of the evacuation while speaking to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Friday, said floods hit the communities Wednesday.

Odenigbo stated that, as an emergency response agency, the state government has provided the necessary support to relocate people to safer areas and mitigate the worsening impacts of the floods as rainfall persists.

He said, “In some local governments, plans have been finalised to use boats to evacuate over 3,000 inhabitants willing to move to higher ground.

“The state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has made available essential items for those in various holden camps in the state to ensure they are comfortable during their stay.

“Items distributed to the local government areas of Ogbaru, Anambra West, and Ayamelum include blankets, mattresses, buckets, and cartons of soap and detergents.”

According to him, the camps have been well prepared, with conveniences, water supply and other relevant logistics provided by the government.

He urged the public to heed the latest warnings from relevant agencies and to pack essential items such as certificates, documents, and medications that they will need while in the camps.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency had on Thursday, October, issued a fresh alert urging communities along coastal lines to relocate without further delay.

A man was miraculously rescued after being lost in the waters of Forcados Offshore, Delta State, for over four hours. The incident occurred when his speedboat capsized at approximately 12:00 PM, leaving him stranded in the ocean.

With quick thinking, the man used his fuel tank as a flotation device to stay buoyant while drifting helplessly in the water. By the time a vessel named MV Omenma, which was making its way after completing a project, spotted him at around 4:25 PM, his body was already white and pale from prolonged exposure. The crew rushed to his rescue.

Thanks to the timely intervention of MV Omenma, the man was pulled to safety and treated for exhaustion.

1. I grew up in Nigeria where it was considered the norm for a man to torture his wife because she is his wife. I have never tortured a human being in the same way because my experience got me to realize how evil that act of inflicting pain on another human being really is.

I didn't join gangs even though many did back in my day because I experienced how terrible gang life can be from watching all of those around me either drop dead or have their lives maimed by it. I am a human being capable of learning from my mistakes and that of others. That is how my experiences have shaped me. There is no excuse of reason why a person should turn to crime or commit evil acts against others merely because it was what he experienced. Such people are not humans but animals that should be put down.

Growing up, my mother did a lot of terrible things to me even till I became an adult. I'm 40 now and she's aged.

She's trying to be kind to me now and I've forgiven her or so I thought. My life didn't turn out well the way I wanted because of her curse and evil mind towards me.
