Feedback on Eprahim schools oke Afa, Isolo

We were asked to show the SMS invite for the interview as a pass. The school is undergoing renovation so everywhere was tight and the staff stressed. After hours we were given text books in subject areas and topics to write on thereafter we did microteaching. I did my best for micro teaching and taught without lesson notes. In fact, the teachers started asking technical questions aggressively but I pulled thru and nearly got into an argument about a topic. I googled at home and it turned out I was right. Later on the principal interviewed us and said the school was conducting the interview for the people that dropped CV with them and that as soon as the need arises we will be contacted. She also asked if I don't mind teaching primary school.

NB. Please teachers should chill and try to be less aggressive during micro teaching. At the end they were pleased only because I didn't lose my cool or take offense. I was also smiling and laughing thru it.
Thank you.

Hmmmnn..that's 1 of the biggest school in oke afa in terms of their facilities..I am teaching around that location..A friend that left there few months ago said 25k for a graduate but don't knw for now..Anoda big issue in terms of their working conditions is that d owner can just summon meeting afta closing hrs..she's used to that..my 1kobo advice that I can give u 2 go 4 it when u are called is the benefits of private home lessons..A child can pay up to 15k n calculate it when you have 5wards @ least..But don't forget they do have extra mural lessons on saturdays.

Thanks my brother. 25k as big as that school is with facilities! No thanks. Make I siddon look. The day I dropped my CV there I noticed the environment was uptight. The gate was firmly locked no going in until bell rings and the summer classes was from 9am-2pm, Monday to Friday. Anyway, I will attend the interview just to learn and get experience. Thanks

Feedback.
I was at Sunnydale school Ikeja today for written test. The names of shortlisted candidates was written on a board. They were the ones who replied and acknowledged properly the receipt of the SMS sent by the same medium. Those who didn't reply or replied by other media were disqualified. Test on logic and intelligence was done. Thereafter, we wrote application letter because according to her more graduates approach professional CV writers. She stressed the importance of teachers following instructions. They promised we would get feedback before the end of the month. She also complained about people not having emails or using numbers that are not available.

I don't want to say that today is messed with regards to my job search but honestly, I feel discouraged. I've been applying for job in schools in my neighbourhood since last week. Some said there are no vacancies while others simply collected my cv with the usual "we'll get back to you". Today I visited another school, the routine has been the same. I'll park my car anywhere around and my kids will wait inside for me; this takes just few minutes. Note: they are not attending summer lessons because we travelled earlier when lesson started.
There was enough space in front of today's school and I parked there as instructed by the gateman. I went in, was told that test held last week but there seem to be vacancy left. After few questions by a three-man panel, I was sent to see the Principal at the secondary annex. While leaving I was advised not to leave my kids outside, so they came into the reception including my 7mths old baby. After a short interview and waiting for LONG over there, i started my written test. Because of the elapsed time while waiting, I got uncomfortable and worried about my kids esp the breastfeeding one. I was still writing when a staff was sent to call my attention that my kids were crying and disturbing. I lost concentration immediately and they said I should go and attend to them that they will get back to me. I have never been this angry with myself for long. I'm sitting here blaming the kids and myself. If I had known a test will be conducted immediately, I would have arranged for them to stay with a relative or friend. Do you people think they will call me back? Sorry for the long story

My dear, do not feel bad with yourself. As a nursing mother I know how you feel but do not blame the kids nor hate yourself. If the job is for you, you will get it. I would advice that anytime you want to do CV runs make arrangements for your kids. Even if it is for an hour. Going about with the kids is stressful and would make them cranky; it also makes you look unprepared. But don't worry another opportunity will come and it will not be impromptu. Best wishes.

masties2: i really dont have an idea about the British Curriculum. But what i have learnt on this thread is that its almost the same with the Nigerian Curriculum.
Anyway, being an English/literacy teacher in a primary school entails that you teach the basics/ foundations. Eg the use of sounds to teach instead of the alphabets. And then combining these sounds to form words.
Are u an English graduate? Do you have montessori training? I think this would be of advantage. I hope i have been of help. Goodluck! And let us know how it went.

Thanks sis. I have no Montessori training and I am a graduate of Theatre Arts. However, I will do my best and certainly give feedback.

[quote author=MacJC post=37251506]To PLAYERS ON TRANSFER TRIALS:
THE BIGGER PICTURE.
Pls in d bid 2 sign 4 clubs let's take a look at the BIGGER PICTURE!
IMOO, what matters most is d FLEXIBILITY of d work.
CASE 1:
Club "A" wants 2 sign u for, let's say 100k with d following conditions:

(i) closing time = 6pm, so in essence, ALL ur fruitful part of d day had been sapped by d school.

(ii) private lessons is PROHIBITED, even if d student's parent made d move.

(iii) whether u have lectures or not, u must not leave d school UNTIL closing time+other "big schools" protocols.

(iv) u are given a marketing target 2 bring students 4 d school, like someone mentioned on this thread about NewHall Int sch, lekki.

(v) u practically travel 2 work everyday eg working in lekki but living in sango, spending at least 1k on transport(=20k per month, or 25k-with Saturdays) leaving u with net pay of 75-80k)

(vi) u are practically SPENT due 2 day2day school work+traffic hold-up (Some spend as much as 3hrs on d road) by d time u get home by 9pm, which time u want take do private lessons? Would u even have d strength?

(vii} u even go to school (school lessons) on Saturdays COMPULSORILY. Which time u want take develop/upgrade urself (eg pgd's certifications etc). Remember, ds no be govt work o, so (in most cases) no pension!

(viii) they feel they "own" u/ are doing u a favor because they are paying u "heavilly"(sic) irrespective of ur competency/handwork.

CASE 2:
Club "B" signs u for 40-50k and:

(i) closing time is 3-4 pm, which means u still have at least 2 "light" hrs 2 do ur own runz (eg home Tutor, vocational studies, certificate upgrade etc). Moreover, NO COMPULSORY SATURDAY LESSONS.

(ii) private teaching is allowed in as much u do it during break/after school hrs, that means more cash-flow.

(iii) flexibility in quickly touching 1/2 places outside during ur free periods.

(iv) ur school is within ur hood, so no transport fare "hole". "Stress of traveling " is also eliminated.

(v) due to (i} and {iv} above, u have EXTRA ENERGY 2 do ur runz. If u can get 5 private teaching locations @ 10k/location, that gives 50k. Add that to ur 40-50k, that gives u 90k minimum.

(vi) since ur SATURDAYS ARE YOURS (and not d school's) , u can upgrade urself certificate-wise, have more time on ur laps 4 private home teaching, hence more income!

CONCLUSION: When u look @ it finely, u'll see dt what u lose @ d end of d day in signing 4 dt "big" club may be MORE than d gain.

So in putting Pen 2 paper, ie b4 u make dt "mega-deal" move, ensure u don't fix ur gaze on the GROSS PAY. Instead, put all other factors into consideration, ie, LOOK AT THE NET PAY!

Naso my brother just that it's for the duration of the holidays till the kids go back to Abj. But I've already made some arrangements with some tutorial centres when JAMB lessons start in October. I'll be teaching 3 subjects and due to my area, it's 500 per period. If I can tàke a cumulative of like 6 periods in those centres, na still something. No time to dull around and seat at home for a work that's not coming. I prefer it to school job, no lesson notes, no regimented schedule, no principal or proprietor ordering u around. Enter class, teach, collect your Figo and bolt.

I like this guy. grin you know what you want and go for it. No dulling. Hussle while you can.
