Typical of the shoddy work of our indigenous contractors who are ready to part with up to 50 percent of a contract cost as gratification and then deliver projects that fail with the first rain drops.
They are the first to scream to high heaven that the Chinese have taken their jobs and would want COREN to regulate the kind of projects that can go to foreign companies.
Ordinary gutter to prevent and control flood and erosion , is now rocket science.

"In character and temperament, the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person, lacking in self-control, discipline, and foresight.
He lacks the power of organisation, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business.
He loves the display of power, but fails to realize its responsibility.
He is full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewellery.
Perhaps, the two traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are his lack of apprehension and his lack of ability to visualize the future"
This, unfortunately is the sad commentary of a black man's mentality as scripted by Lord luggard whom many have already erroneously labeled a racist in another thread. |

DonX001: My dear, I had almost the same feelings when I read the Lord Lugard's comments. He described us as a community perfectly....and this was as far back as a hundred years ago. People that are arguing against it are blinded by self deceit, and refuse to tell themselves the truth. (Which Lord Lugard also mentioned in that writeup as "a lack of veracity". Those that don't know the meaning of veracity can google it up.). The man describes exactly why we are where we are today, (compared to other nations/continents), from what he wrote over a hundred years ago. The man has vision and sagacity. I need the book too if you can find it. http://www.fafich.ufmg.br/~luarnaut/Lugard-dual%20mandate.pdf Courtesy Mustiboy |

Sunsets: Don't shed ignorant tears. Every society goes through this sort of civilization curve. It is not about the African community. Its about poverty, lack of proper education and exposure. Nothing genetic about it. "The typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person, lacking in self-control, discipline, and foresight. Naturally courageous, and naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewellery. His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future or grief for the past". "He lacks the power of organisation, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business". If the above excerpt did not send you into a sober mood then you are wired to self-destruct soon. How do you escape poverty and ignorance when you lack the power of organization and veracity? |

ednut1: Lord Lugard, the former governor-general of Nigeria, in 1926, wrote his unfiltered thought about Nigerians. From his book, The Dual Mandates, come these excerpts:
"His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future or grief for the past. His mind is far nearer to the animal world than that of the European or Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals' placidity and want of desire to rise beyond the state he has reached.
"He lacks the power of organisation, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business.
He loves the display of power, but fails to realize its responsibility - he will work hard with a less incentive than most races. He has the courage of the fighting animal, an instinct rather than a moral virtue. In brief, the virtues and defects of his race -type are those of attractive children, whose confidence when it is won is given ungrudgingly as to an older and wiser superior and without envy. Perhaps, the two traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are his lack of apprehension and his lack of ability to visualize the future" I was moved to tears with the excerpts above. How can someone so accurately summarize us and our future in such prophetic manner. @op, I need this book please |

Most of our judges are complicit in matters of corruption as its no secret that their stupendous wealth does not tally with their pay packet when subjected to rigorous scrutiny.
Most lack scruples and will not flinch in delivering a "cash and carry judgement" if adequately mobilized.
I sometimes wonder where we imbibed this penchant for wealth and riches that can not be consumed in 10 lifetimes of the holder.
