I actually read from beginning to end, guy you're brilliant. Everyday I'm more convinced that religious people really need our help, seeing how they lack reason and are totally unsympathetic. They try to justify every obvious atrocity committed in the Bible. Arguing with them can be pointless and frustrating.

kilo4sure:
Well l don't know why you call it suicide, but Jesus came into the world knowing that he would be killed for what he stood for. The fear of death did not make him back out anyway because he believed in the glory that was to come from that... The gathering of the sons of God.
I'll rather call it a sacrifice, but if you still insist it's suicide, then maybe l'm ignorant of the correct definition of suicide.
a sacrifice that was well planned, a plan he orchestrated before he was even born, a plan that would ultimately lead to his death, how can this not be suicide. It was a suicidal sacrifice.

Why is this a problem if someone is anti-theist, seeing how theist carry themselves like the most important people in the world, ever ready to choke u when u don't agree with their ideology, can't they also be classified as anti-freelife or something of the sort, because they always happen to be against people living freely.

You are just on point brother.. Exactly what I did. It's one of the price for freedom. On the other hand. I tend to concentrate more on better things.. On u will get over it cos the chances of u getting her back is slight except u go back to that boundage called religion.. It's ur choice bro...
I tried many times to get back to christianity to make her happy, i tried to be a devoted christian, i realized i was just fooling myself. I tried to win her over all to no avail. I had no other choice than to move on. Even though we share similar stories, the way we handle them differs. But i think these are some of the things that makes life interesting.
@blaqsmith, make a decision u wont regret in d future. Write your own story my friend.

Blaqsmith, she values religion over the relationship so why go on with it?.. it's either she loves you for who you are or it's over.

It might seem like she's the only girl for you but trust me, there are others who'll accept and even be thankful that you hold such a stance..

You can still try to show her why you're an atheist... I'd suggest you pick up all the articles, videos and any information that is relevant to atheism and just educate her...if she wants to even consider understanding it that is.
I doubt no amount of videos can convince her, i'm also in the same situation as the OP, the girl i love just wont budge. She's scared of what people would say. It takes a questioning mind to step out of religion, if she's not the type then its impossible to win her over. My advice to the OP...do like i did.. Accept the possibility of not being with her, and dont hold anything against her, just be friends with her and not try to convince her. Let your light shine on its own into her life. Its the price you pay for being who you are, for freedom.
Why am I quoting davien?

Religion / Re: Coincidence Or Reality? Pls I Need An Explanation. - An Adjoinder by matrix600(m): 7:51pm On Jul 05, 2016
MizMyColi:
PUZZLING THOUGHTS.

At a time when I almost crossed over to try Atheism owing to semi-convictions from a person who taught me my first lessons on God's Grace, the event described above made me hold back.

I have not seen the entity we call God. Apart from what I read in the bible about Jesus (which I choose to believe anyway) I do not have any tangible evidence that he exists/existed.

But what I do know for sure is that the supernatural/paranormal is real. I am convinced that there are powers/energies out there and based on their perceived chatacteristics I have categorised them into good and bad.

While I have a million reasons to buttress this belief of mine, the one I described above stands out because it defies logic and NO...it is neither coincidence nor hallucination or anything that remotely resembles such.

If anyone has a tangible explanation that aptly describes what happened to me that night, please proffer. Thank you.
Hey sweetheart long time.
This thing you call the "supernatural" as the name implies is NATURE that is SUPER. It is super because we do not yet understand the workings of it. For something to be regarded as supernatural is in itself wrong, because we do not even know the limit or endpoint of what is natural so much as to know that something is beyond nature. Ghosts may exist, people might see visions, witches may fly, and odd things might happen, it doesn't make them unnatural or supernatural.
The supernatural or paranormal is not evidence for the existence of the abrahamic god or any other god, it is evidence for the limitation of our knowledge. So atheists should not be called to give explanations here. Its really unnecessary.

Religion / Re: Why Did God "Kill" 42 Lads Merely For Saying Elisha Was Bald? by matrix600(m): 9:52am On Jun 17, 2016
I still don't understand how someone can justify such unimaginable evil.. How can such an evil and heartless person as Elisha be a prophet of God? I takes an equally heartless and conscienceless person to justify such atrocity. Because this is plain EVIL. In today's world such a psychopath will be executed at once or locked up.
Imagine the scenario, the yelling and screaming and blood gushing out of the children's throats, eyes, limbs, belly, and the so called 'prophet of God' just stands there with a big smile on his face, feeling victorious. Gives glory to his god and walks away. All because he was insulted by some lads. This is really sickening.
The only comfort i can find in this is that its a lie. Because there really is no justification for such evil if it were true.

No sir!! Christianity teaches us that we are spirits and Jesus Christ exists in the spirit realm (supernatural) so any christian who doesn't believe in the supernatural is a fool of the first order.
I still wonder why religious people are so quick to use vile words. Can't you just make a statement like this 'so any christian who doesn't believe in the supernatural has a lot to learn about Christianity', or something milder. Calling him a fool was totally uncalled for. please change.

We do not share the same God or views and it is simply because the world is filled with lies and deceptions pepertrated by the devil via his human agents. If the truth, make billions to perish it's not because the Christian (loving) God wants souls to perish.

It's because they are sherperded by blind religous/ scientific/bigotic/occultic leaders which the world are more ready to accept. And Jesus said and I quote "if the blind lead the blind, both of them will fall into the ditch".

Now calculate how many followers Charles Dickins had on his tweeter page. What about Dr Naik? or the catholic pope? millions. then add them up.

THE TRUTH has its account and is begging, even crying for subcribers but few are clicking. Mostly because the blind leaders are campaigning against it.

So if subscribers to THE TRUTH goes to heaven and others to hell fire. How can God be blamed? you should blame your blind leaders and the devil that using them.
Its very easy for you to see your religion as the truth, and the others as lies from the devil and leaders. There are several religions and several walks of life and the followers of these various paths, like you, hold in mind that theirs is THE TRUTH as well. The same way you see theirs as lies is the same way they see yours. If a ask you what this truth is all about you'll begin quoting bible verses for me, if i ask a muslim same, he'll begin reciting the Quran verses. Nobody will see the truth and not accept it, except they're not convinced if the truth is really what it claims to be.

I understand that according to you, the 'Devil' is the one to always take the blames. God takes the glories thats for sure. Such mindsets scare me.

@hardmirror...... Well I just came across this thread of yours this evening and really it's so inspiring, i can tell from your write up that you've been a firebrand Christian and from the little I've read I was trying to get what actually brought you down on your knees and find fault with Christianity, you said everything about Christianity is true but the reason behind it is false, truly I was looking for what converted a dynamic man of God like you into an atheist, maybe I wanted to become an atheist like you that's if I found a good reason but I was disappointed when you said God is not caring and loving and burns people in hell even at the slightest sin.

You are a Man of God you should know better, or maybe you are not rooted in the word of God hence your new disposition and believe.

Well I want to bring to your notice to the fact that God gave man authority and power to dominate the earth even the first and foremost man Adam and his wife Eve, but man gave his authority and power to the devil.. And you know that the devil doesn't wish man well and that's the reason for the evil that prevails on earth.

Seeing that the whole of humanity is eternally lost and in great bondage of the arch enemy, God was aggrieved, and being a loving Father he decided to shed his blood which is the only way he can to save the little he can of humanity.

God just did what he could do, by shedding his blood for us so that at least a good remnants of us will remain to carry out his first order, Jesus said it "only few will be saved"

Apostle paul said "that I might not be a castaway even when I've preached to others". That's a Man that's has good knowledge of Christianity.

Well, will someone that has enjoyed the gift and power of the Spirit be redeemed back if they turn away from the faith? I guess you have the answer.

I am not holier than anyone in this room, i may even be the worst sinner among us here, but I have hope that if I do it right, I will live eternally. The man on the cross received that grace and it's open for everyone.

Go back to your faith if you can but if you have decided to remain where you are, allbeit good. Let everyman do according to he pleases.
i know i'm not the one to respond to this, but permit me to say something.. you speak of God, you speak of the first man infact you even know his name, you speak of the spirit, you mention apostle paul, you speak of faith, and you talk about God handing dominion to man. I believe you got these ideas from the bible therefore you speak from a christian point of view, which is exactly the angle you see the world from. If you want to really grasp what the OP is talking about in this thread, then try to make your comments from a neutral point of view. You see the world from a christian standpoint, according to what your faith allows, you forget that there're billions of people on earth that don't share your faith. So when you talk about God, the first man, and how he gave dominion to man, make a reference to something that is universal. Don't forget that we do not all share the same God, or the same stories about the world.

I have been following this thread with keen interest. I consciously refused to comment since because I know what the turn out will be like. But at this stage, I refuse to be an on looker but a contributor for the thread to flow. I know some people will be accusing HardMirror of being a satanist and blah blah blah. But I can tell you guys he is not one based on personal experiences of my own when I rejected religion. There was nothing I was not accused of.... Even My own mother accused me of being a cultist, kidnapper, diabolic agent and what have you all in an effort to throw me off balance. But I knew deep down me that I was none of these. I knew I was not a cultist coz I have not joined one before and will not join one. I knew I was not a kidnapper because I have not thought of not to talk of kidnapping someone. I knew I was not into diabolics because right from childhood, I have never believed in those stuffs.

All in all, those accusations from her, priests and relatives were made to push me off balance. They wanted to attack my psyche which is partly how religion works. They will chain your senses (physically through lies/deception)and try to control you by words of mouth. If they succeed, they tell you that the holy spirit is in control but if they are unsuccessful, they say that satan is in control. The funny part is that if you compare your morality with that of those accusing you, you will find out that you are far off better than them! #Fact!

Everything aside Hardmirror, though I am an "Atheist" in quote, I want to assure you and fellow "Atheists" that there is a Creator. This creator or source or nature as I usually call it, is far above what humans can ever understand! It is unknowable and can never be known. No science, religion, spirituality or whatever can explain it. All these gimmicks you see humans perform in the form of science, religion or whatever are just basic attempts to understand what confuses them. Humans are just trying to give themselves hope by inventing a whole lot of things like religion, science and metaphysics.

But I do believe that there was an ORIGIN. I stand to be corrected though.

You're right, yes human beings wants to understand the world around them, but of all the institutions you mentioned, religion, science, metaphysics, which do you think has made the most realistic progress so far? obviously science. Science appeals to reason via mathematics and logic, research and experiments. religion gives you absolute answers, untested, some even claim to be the mouthpiece of the creator. Science has made more impact on human lives far more than religion. If the universe has an origin, isn't it best to rely on scientific explanations instead? Dont forget science doesn't claim absolutism, whenever a new knowledge is brought forth, the old one is discarded. So why dont we follow science to understand the world little by little as much as we can. Science explains reality in a physical sense, religion sees reality with their spiritual binoculars which sadly their interpretations contradicts each other in many ways. I still dont understand why religious people want finished answers in this world of so much uncertainty, when we can try to understand the world one step at a time. Its for the interest of everyone for science to lead the way. My one cent

There's no quarrel, why do you resort to flattery? Have you not read the scriptures? The problem i have with atheists is that they want to define God,and as God doesn't suit their definition, therefore there's no God. How convenient. i know there are different levels of pain in hell the same way I know that the Sun is made up of Hydrogen and Helium. Do you know that the Sun is made up of Hydrogen and Helium?

i like this, you are actually attempting a logical analysis, a miracle is on the way here. It is very rare with the atheists on this forum.
Now, an analogy does not mean the same thing must apply for every aspect. Analogy deals with things being similar in SOME way(s), not in EVERY way. i could as well use an analogy with a prison, or a school. Sometimes analogies are done of people using plants and animals. The point of the analogy i made was that every sick person is attended to in the hospital, they don't say your sickness is too small, bring only HIV people or Kidney failure. In hell, it is not only big sinners that are there or that will be sent there, all sinners will be sent there. All sick people are sent to the doctor. All criminals are sent to prison if convicted, even though they have different levels of crime. All students go to school whether PhD or kindergarten. etc.
Your summary is poor and unfounded. In hell, they don't all get the same treatment. The pain of an headache is different from the pain of a crushed fermur or the pain of a sorethroat or the pain of a failed kidney. There are different degrees of pain in hell. i hope this analogy will be easier for you to understand.
sorry to interfere in this quarrel oh wise and great one, but please how do you know that there're different levels of pain in hell, are you saying some parts of hell are hotter than some, or some part of hell the fire is milder, and fiercer in others. This is a new theory so Please ELABORATE

let the delusional being first prove that his great great grandfather existed before that one. It'll be too much for him to handle
a short answer to that is nobody absolutely knows how the universe came to be. Science is studying and making calculated gueses and then experimenting to be sure, while religion claims to know all but is unable to provide proof to their claims. So in short- we dont know, but we want to know.
