lol.. Ok o. Shey d for the ota update, i wont lose my files. Also how can i ensure a successful download and installation at first trial . Pls drop tips. Thanks
OTA updates seems to be the safest of all updates. I have never experienced any data loss ever since I have been updating over the air. It's only those that wants lambo experience in a "jalopy" car that will risk loosing files when they try updating via flashing of different ROMS.

Its quite apparent that you know nothing about technological sales and you should probably look up the meaning of recycle in the dictionary too, it is no one's problem that Huawei is your beloved, you don't need to articulate your love for Huawei at the expense of TECNO.... I'll advice you try find out why Nigerian users of Tecno is plentier than the users of your beloved
The reason why all those premium brands never outsmart tecno in Nigeria is just because they only market their products to where it matters like China, India and some other developed countries.

Have you ever asked yourself why it's only in Nigeria Tecno and infinix are popular? It's just because they know your country is way too poor when it comes to technology and little things are what amazes you.

Widen your horizon people and stop being backward by defending that useless brand called Tecno

MY USER EXPERIENCE/OPINION ON THE REDMI NOTE 5
.
After using redmi note 5 for a few days.. Here are my thoughts!
It's a pretty phone (i got the rose gold). The battery backup is amazing. I am a heavy user, yet it takes me through the entire day (on 3g network), and i would still have 25-30% battery left by the time i get home.
.
.
The camera is good also.I love the fact that the front camera has a flash to take great photos at night.
It has some amazing features which makes for an enjoyable user experience.
.
.
Now, to what i want everyone to be aware of (because people just come here, say "I am now a proud owner of xiaomi..."wink and boom! Off they go, without dropping any review to help prospective buyers decide if it's the pros and cons of the device are what they can live with or not.
.
.
Before anyone comes for me, asking if am expecting flagship features on a $130 device, take a few moments to ponder on all i will point out here. The cons i have noticed are basic features even a 20 dollar phone should have and handles decently, without and hassles.
.
.
1.There are a lot of ads in the phone's system apps.. Themes, wallpaper, fole manager, music app, video app, security etc. It's like MTN, it's everywhere you go on the phone. I had to read up a thread on the miui forum on how to turn off the ads from everywhere it is displayed.
.
.
Now that's really low from xiaomi! I have used devices, from the high end flagships to feature phones, never have i encountered ads in the stock music player or other system apps.Like the phone has already been paid for, so why the ads? Even apps with pro versions gives the user an ad free experience after paying.
.
.
One day xiaomi may roll out an update and you find the option to turn off ads missing, then what next? The user gets stuck with a phone that has ads everywhere.
.
.
2.The audio output when using earphones is beyond poor on my device. This isn't an issue of "change your headphone. I am an audiophile so I don't slack on buying good earphones. As soon as music is turned on, through the speakers or headphones..
.
.

I can observe that there is no clarity. The voice of the singers come off as croaky and muffled, with a lot of noise. I tried my senheisser mx 365 earphone, a langsdom headphone, a sony headphone and lastly zealot sparkle.. It was the same. I went on miui forum, a lot of people were having the same issue even as far back as march.
.
.
The mi audio enhancer/equalizer is of no use. It seems to normalize a bit after you have listened to music with it for a while. Still you can't get that crispy clearness. I recently got a tecno torchlight phone that uses memory card for N3800.
.
.
I transfered some songs there and the audio output was clearer and way better than the xiaomi redmi note 5.That's a big let down because i listen to music daily. I have sent a feedback to xiaomi, and included audio logs report. I doubt if they will ever address that issue.

.
.
I am hoping it's something an update can fix, I am on Miui 10 right now, but i am not even ready to update the device for fear of the unknown.
.
3.The updates rolled out have bugs. Even the "stable versions" are not so stable. You update to a new version.
.
.
You discover your camera functions differently, pictures are unclear, some functions have disappeared, volume is low or your battery drains fast. With the issues relating to updates i read about, i am not even sure i want to update my device to avoid saying "had i known"!
.
.
4.It doesn't display glo network messages fully. When i dial
*127*0# to check data, on gionee m6 and samsung S8,the pop up message from Glo about my data balance is displayed fully. I never experience any issue with that using those phones. On the Redmi note 5 , the message is slashed and just one third of it is displayed with the heading "class zero message".. I run two to three data plans concurrently, glo night plan, weekend plan and normal monthly..
.
.
I don't get to see my balance for about two of them , just the active one shows whoke d remaining is slashed out. I placed my sim on other phones and i got tbe full message, so i know it's a xiaomi issue.
.
5.The stock music player doesn't play .wma files, and the stock video player doesn't play. mkv files
.
.
These have been my observations so far.. It's a pretty sleek phone, battery lasts long and the pictures are pretty decent for the price. The audio clarity issue is a big turn off. I won't be using this phone for long because of that.
There is only one thing I want to comment on here which is the stock music and video player... I have one question though.

Do these stock video and music player app differs with device? Or they are the same once you are running same MIUI versions?

If they are the same, I guess it's your device that has issues.
The reason why I asked is because I play .mkv files flawlessly on my device without no issues. But as for the .WMA files for the stock music player, one thing I have noticed is that the stock music app doesn't display songs that are not having the .mp3 extention with them but that does not mean it won't play if you go to your file manager to play it. One hack I use for songs not having the .mp3 as their default extension is just to rename the music file extension from whatever audio extension they have to .mp3. Another thing is that hope you are aware that most WMA files are protected with one DRM encoder in which without proper Autorization, you can't play them with no other player than the "Windows Media Player". The only thing you can do if you want to play them is to use the " Real Player" converter.

But if the stock music and video players differs the device, then I Can say you win with your point or perhaps experience

Before I updated via OTA, I remember you always suggest manual update as alternative but I don't know how you get the zip file; what's on the website is MIUI 9. Please, how dyu get it?

I think the connection sign is the culprit. Just a guess tho. It shouldn't be showing "H" when the data is off rather "G" base on previous experience. My battery loses a percent every 45mins with no data on.
Just a percent every 45mins and you are complaining... Kukuma off the phone to retain your battery

No.. Not at you.. Looking at the state of the thread, especially now that I've gotten and actually using the phone.. I've realised that people will complain over anything and everything.. So I don't bother acknowledging any unnecessary arguments.. The phone is perfectly fine for its price.. You literally can't get such quality from any other brand.. But people will still complain.. Hmm, I get the angle you're coming from. Default themes are snappy no doubt. Personally I attribute their snappiness to their lightweight nature. Try a third-party theme that is light weight (usually the ones marked lite) and you'll notice there is no difference in responsiveness when compared to default themes.

Your point on RAM usage is actually the opposite, at least on Android. The more apps your phone keeps in memory, the faster it will take to load them. This I believe is why OEMs keep increasing the RAM sizes to accommodate even more preloaded apps. With the inclusion of AI the system should be able to predict your usage patterns and keep your commonly used apps in memory.

If you're in the habit of clearing your RAM, just chill & let the system do the cleaning and you'll notice the difference.
AI app usage(RAM) is kinda new, my last Xiaomi doesn't do such(MIUI 9), I had to be clearing my memory every now and then to increase phone speed a little.

But as for your opinion on the AI RAM management, I think I have notice that on my recent Xiaomi upgrade

shocked Hearing the bolded for the first time in all my years of using MIUI, both ported to other OEM device or Xiaomi phone for that matter.

That's a fallacy btw
It's what I have experienced myself.... I didn't just say that based on what I read online.

Monitor your Activities closely and you will notice it..

Most times when I use third party themes, the memory allocated to the apps on the multi tasking window always increase as compared to what will be allocated when using the default theme. And as you know, as you consume more RAM, you have the tendency of your phone slowing down a lil bit.

Not just that, I also noticed that my wallpaper carousel does not work when using a third party theme. It will just be stagnant with the default one I used without changing like the normal wallpaper carousel algorithm.

Those are the two I can remember for now

Not had the slightest feeling of a slower device functionality since I installed the theme though. I'll keep watching.

I Downloaded the Asphalt from apk pure. Keeps saying invalid license. Ok playstore - Your device doesn't support this version. How did you get yours to run?
In my own ehn, I noticed memory allocation to apps increased. Like my apps takes more of RAM storage when using the theme as compared to the original theme.

...and you know the more memory you consume, the device speeed tend to reduce a little bit

Just updated to the MIUI V10 on my Redmi Note 6 Pro and I must say it looks penged and really nice. However, it'll take some getting used to. Playing around with one iOS theme.

Anyone plays asphalt 9 legends on this device? Can't seem to get this to run it so I've settled for NFS no limits. Waiting for the pie update.
I play Asphalt 9 flawlessly on my redmi 6 pro and it runs smoothly; and thats an SD 625 processor. It should run on your redmi note 6 pro flawlessly also with that SD 636

By the way, using third party themes will slow down system functionality. This is from my own personal experience with using third party themes; this iOS theme in particular sef.

I had to revert back to the default theme.

Customs just billed me N8250 on Redmi note 5.The seller declared $40 as the value. Well, i am never ordering a phone or anything of value on aliexpress again. It makes no sense to wait for 3 weeks, then you are made to pay heavy duties on the item. It's better i buy from Jumia from henceforth. I am so pissed right now.
.
My advise to anyone planning to order, just save yourself the stress and buy from the nairaland guys or jumia. With customs slapping random fees on phones, it's not just worth the wait! Anyways, na life lesson.

I think people should learn to drop reviews on aliexpress about custom duties, that way others can decide if they still want to take the risk and order.
This mostly happens during December time... Those guys are just tryna loot money to flex December.

If you are planning to buy a phone on aliexpress, I will advise others to wait till January before doing that if you don't want custom issues
