Phones › Re: Why Is Gionee Struggling In Nigeria? by Maximum83: 1:08pm On Nov 11, 2015 |
TechRez: Gionee’s mobile division in Nigeria is falling apart. The Chinese mobile manufacturer founded in 2002 grew to become a formidable brand in China, expanding its market to India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Phillppines and Nigeria.
In 2013, the mobile brand grew in popularity in Nigeria, posing a huge threat to Tecno. Gionee’s constant push for innovative smartphones backed by aggressive marketing made the brand a household name.
The company also earned a global recognition for manufacturing the slimmest phone in 2014, the Elife S5.5, although it has been overtaken by Micromax’s Canvas Sliver 5.
During that same year, Gionee got in the media for some shoddy practices. It was accused of delivering smartphones pre-installed with Malwares.
Gionee E6 Gionee E6 Fast-foward to 2015, the company appears to be struggling especially in Nigeria where other OEM ‘s like Infinix have had an instant impact in Africa’s biggest mobile market.
Infinix and Google had a mega deal that brought in the Infinix Hot 2, an Android One smartphone that has sold in tens of thousands. The same thing cannot be said of Gionee smartphones, though they launch new devices continuously, it appears no one noticed.
The competition is going to be more stiff, as Xiaomi which was recently dethroned as the biggest Mobile Vendor in China by Huawei launches two smartphones in Nigeria at the end of November.
Jumia is also likely partner with Wileyfox to launch two smartphones in Nigeria before the end of 2015. Wilefox phones are like the hugely successful OnePlus phones running on Cyanogen OS with top-of-the-line specs on-board.
It is not clear what went wrong in the camp of Gionee, but if they choose to remain relevant in Nigeria. They have “re-study” the market, knowing why brands like Yezz Mobile failed miserably in Nigeria with their completely down-market phones and why emerging brands like InnJoo have suddenly become an instant success.

cc: lalasticlala Gionee don't understand the African mobile market. Companies like Tecno, Infinix are doing very well. Report has it that Tecno sold over 45 millions of phones last year in Africa. Gionee market strategy is poor |

Mafia4life: My turn off if it is really true. No.1 6-inches is damn big. No. 2 Same chipset used for the previous note series No 3. People like me would prefer same cpu clock rate running on 64bit architecture. No 4. Same RAM size which isn't an upgrade No 5. Though no 4G LTE network in Nigeria. It would attract me if it comes embedded. No 6. Bigger screen might bring faster discharge ( maybe battery capacity might be 6020mah) Nothing much sha. Just expressing why I may not buy if there reasons are true Let's wait and see. Specs are subject to change. I still put phantom 5 above this though |

Phones › Re: Four Absurd Tecno Myths You Should Stop Believing Right Now by Maximum83: 3:58pm On Nov 10, 2015 |
parrotibaba: are you having a laugh? Tecno products are substandard and that's their limit. They produce mid n low range phones and it sells but going high end and deciding to overprice it is just ridiculous. How many people bought the phantom z last year? and it sold at 50k. Now the phantom z is now crap cos of lack of OS update. The phones with the same specs as the TP5 are selling for 40-50k n yet they decided to sell this phone 70k when another OS is already out. By the time next year rolls in, another phantom with the latest OS will come out with a laughable price tag while those that wasted their 70k just like the phantom z folks will be stuck n regretting ever buying these phones. Take a look at the c8 that came out with multitasking issues, folks cried to tecno for a simple fix but in typical style they abandoned them and instead decided to launch the c5 in Nigeria. If an OEM can do this and you still think that they are booming then you are indeed suffering from inferiority complex. bye. Bro the fact that phantom Z didn't get update to the newest OS doesn't mean is a crap. What do you mean by crap if I may ask. I am particularly not moved by all this update u guys are saying. So far my phone is serving me I don't have problem whether it's upgraded to Lollipop or not. Kit kat is even better than Lollipop, My infinix hot note pro is still running kit kat and I would be upgrading it |

Chukky86: Smile LTE 4G Is not gsm. Its cdma network. You are trying to use a cdma sim for gsm phone version. How dumb. Get the cdma version of moto G . it will work with smile network. . I think u are getting it wrong here. No version of the Motorola Moto G will work with the said network. It's an advantage if your mobile should work with a CDMA network. You can blaze the 4G LTE the smiles 4G offers |

Phones › Does The Motorola Moto G - 2015 Works With Smiles 4G LTE? by Maximum83(op): 8:39pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
The Motorola Moto G is a mid-range 4G LTE device. You know how we roll here at MobilityArena.com. Knowing that subscribers of Smile 4G/LTE would be interested in knowing whether their SIMs work on it like it does with the TECNO Phantom 5 There are three variants of the Moto G:
XT1540 – US market, GSM unlocked XT1548 – US market, locked to CDMA networks XT1550 – Indian market, GSM unlocked.
Our model is the XT1540. We inserted the Smile 4G SIM into the phone, adjusted every setting, and got….zilch. It wouldn’t pick a signal.
We can authoritatively tell you that if you have a Smile 4G SIM and you are looking for a smartphone to use it with, the Moto G 2015 is not that phone. None of the available variants support the LTE-800 (20 band) that Smile 4G runs on.
If you want the Moto G for a different reason, it really is a nice phone. Sourcehttp://mobilityarena.com |

It's kinda amusing and shocking to see Tecno trying to con the gullible ones among us into investing on their high priced substandard flagship. Apparently, integrity is the last thing on their mind right now. Desperate measures and all that... How do you mean by substandard? Tecno phones substandard!.
