You can lie to yourself Jesus' disciples surely had WRONG EXPECTATIONS several times and the Bible recorded it but they never mention any specific date just as their modern day counterpart.

John the baptist and Jesus of Nazareth were saying:

“Repent, for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.” Matthew 3:2; 4:17

The statement "drawn near" or "at hand" could be translated as happening soon as in within the lifetime of those listening to John and Jesus.
In fact John the baptist was confused when he was arrested and Jesus didn't come to rescue him, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus:

“Are you the Coming One, or are we to expect a different one?” Matthew 11:3

Ask yourself what this prophet had in mind by asking Jesus who he himself baptized, saw the holy Spirit like a dove landed on him and heard God spoke from heaven to still question if Jesus is the Christ.

Well he thought the Christ will establish his kingdom instantly after the anointing of holy Spirit but he was WRONG. So does that makes John a false prophet? NO! In fact Jesus said there has never been born any prophet greater than this prophet who is questioning Jesus' credentials! Matthew 11:11-12

God's servants NEVER GAVE ANY SPECIFIC DATE they only had WRONG EXPECTATIONS just as prophets before them often does out of anxiety to see the end of badness.
