That sound is more of a mechanical sound. Firstly let them trace oil leakages. Make sure a thorough visual inspection is done. As for scanning its not a bad idea. But a scan would never reveal any sound of such. I fink your camshaft sprokets aare worn out alrdy and this was as a result of shortage of oil. Lastly when last was the car serviced and what type of oil do you use??

Does it jerk?

How did you conclude it has no fault code?

Series of test needs to be carried out on that vehicle of yours. A quick question here what type of scan did you run?? Was a live data stream carried out to check all modules of the vehicle. Did you carry out a fuel pressing test?

There are a whole lot of things that can be atrributed to the discussed problem by the "op". So in this case the mass airflow sensor cannot be considered only. Common bad spark plugs can also cause this. Just to be on a safer side always run a comprehensive scanning on your car. And as for the person who says his check light is blinking you need to run a complete diagnosis on that car. Its better you pack it aside to prevent further damage

Go with mobil 1 5w-30 or buy any synthetic oil with viscosity of 5w-30

If you get the same misfire then go ahead and change that very coil. Or if you have an exrta coil try that first

Now a quick question here

1) does it vibrates when you use your Ac or when your Ac is off?

2) do you have any type of smoke coming out of the exhaust either blueish in colour?


Now am going to answer your question according to the way you have explained your car problem. If it vibrates wiht the Ac on ask your mechanic to inspect your idle control system. It can be serviced. If it vibrates without Ac on ask mechanic to inspect your engine mounts. You should have 4 on it

Ask for the oil lekage ask your mechanic to trace where the oil Leak Is coming from.

As for water dripping underneath the car when you use your Ac it is very normal

As for the code you noticed it means your catalyst is going bad and there are many reasons why the scanner picked up that

1) a leaking exhaust could throw up that code

2) a shaking or not properly mounted exhaust

3) finally a bad catalytic converter

4) a faulty bank 1 sensor 2 02 sensor cld throw up that code

Finally you need to run a comprehensive scanning on your car. So as to pick up all modules of that car. With your highlighted problem I dont think you should have only that code. Fear enough the ECU might not register some other codes on it but still go ahead to run a comprehensive scan. My 5cents

If your fans are working directly and you have an Ect code it means the egine coolant temperature sensor must have been by passed by removing the socket that connects to it. Check for it. If its not then the sensor could be bad. And what this means is you have a hard start early in the morning and when its sunny or when the egine has reached an optimum temperature you get a 1 time start. Run a more comprehensive scan on that car.

Whatever I type here now am typing from experience. The new ones which are of high standards are very much expensive. Oga forget about toyota company or elizade.i hate to here those companies whne buying I can tell you those guys are even worse. If I tell you they even go as far as going to ladipo to buy theirs would you beleive . So be careful about them. If you need original struts they are very expensive and even sold in nigeria. The so-called grade 1 tokunbo are rare to see. I can tell you from experience I bought 4 but none worked fine for me. If you enter the streets of the markets frequently you would see wen those shocks are being gased by vulcanizers and resprayed by sellers. Oh boy na wetin elizade and toyota dey come buy for una be that o. For that your corolla there is a strut called "kyb" and "tokico". They are one of the best products for struts if you get the original ones. Am currently using tokico on honda accord 2005 and have had rest of mind since using it, Though when buying struts the fronts are much expensive than rears. Thermostats are used to make sure the engine runs at optimum temperature dis same temperature is required to burn oil by making it lighter. If your thermostat is removed you couod have a situation where sludges would be built in your engine compartment

If your check light is off. Your car needs a tune up and this involves checking your spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, not with standing run a scan. Doesn't really matter if your check light is off

Do you have your Abs light on the instrument cluster?

As for your brake reaching almost the floor level before it works. Am looking at your brake shoes,brake pads and aalso if your Abs module is bad it can lead to that too. So first thing I would tell you to do is if you have your Abs disco light on go ahead and run a comprehensive scan. Although for the 96 camry it has a more tech wsy to scan your Abs unit

As for your overheating issue and you topping your radiator water. You have a leak some where. Check hose connected to the engine for supply of water. Check your radiator. The leak in the radiator can either be internal or external. If its external change radiator rather than patch and if its internal check water pump. Also your radiator cells could be bad

Who never can tell not only do you need your original documents to proof to vehicle law enforcements that you have them but you also need them in other areas. Can't start saying all that hear. Its a document you know. Is it possible to misplace your cerficate of occupancy for your house and say not to worry you have photcopies

But go with your photocopied document first and see if they could do a reprint for you but cant be free

You need to get a police report and a sworn affidavit from the court that your original documents for your car are missing then proceed to the licensing office with it. When you get there they are in a better position to tell you the cost
