States need autonomy and weaning from Federal Government, not LG. As usual our lawmakers usurp powers from citizens and ruin our political development. This initiative, if passed will have the worst impact in traditional thrones and dissolve political unity at the grassroot. While this system of governance may work in other countries, it will destroy customs and loyalties in Nigeria. Example: 1 - LG will begin to see the center (FG) as its point of authority and therefore approach directly to FG for support of its initiatives. 2 - LG Chairmen can make laws that affect traditional title holders, including recognition and investiture of Staff of Office. 3 - LG Chairmen and or their council can divest and redraw domains under an Obaship Council. 4 - Each LG will compete to have its Oba recognized as a first class in the State and therefore disrupt the customary heirarchy of titular monarchs. 5 - LGs will become top heavy with redundant appointments and office to justify budget allocations. 6 - State Governors and House of Assemblies will be greatly reduced to position of inefficiency and wastage. 5 - If this autonomy power is granted before the tax laws are overhauled and rewritten then workers in gainful employment will be greatly abused as the value of their discretionary spending is further decreased. If I live in LG A but work in LG B, then I could be made to pay income tax to B and property tax to A and sales tax to the State itself on consumables. These mdfvkrs calling themselves honorables need to weigh the consequences and have farsight reflections before they do the dishonorable thing and pass this yeye law. ![]() |

Sultan said: “I want to say that nobody in the North aims to kill any Igbo because he is an Igboman. They are killed because they are the industrious ones found everywhere and in every village but nobody plans or sends people to kill the Igbo. This quote is from Sultan on his visit few days ago to Enugu, the same state where IPOB threatened showdown if President Buhari visited. Im curious, in what capacity is the Sultan visiting Enugu, as a religious cleric, as a peace maker, as a politiciam, or what? Recently IPOB leadership went online and gave speeches calling for immediate release of El Zakzaky, Dasuki and Kanu. In another recent development in a press release IPOB offered to admit Shias and accomodate them in SE. Yet in another instance not long ago IPOB offered to champion the Shia case and refer it to UN and ICJ for deeper look in the similarities between their persecution in North, the hatred and persecution of minority Christians in North and the parallels with the persecution of Biafrans in SE. No doubt the statement from Sultan is a tongue in cheek warning to Igbo. The interpretation is that Igbos are killed because everywhere they go they antagonize others and claim over sabi. I wonder why the Sultan is the one sent to deliver this message and in what capacity did he visit Enugu? |
