Most Nigerian journalists are the same. Hungry, smelly, self conceited sycophants. Before Adeniyi signed up with Yar Adua, he did a piece on Yar Adua - how he lived a humble life and had and old colour TV in his living room. I sent him a text back then to say "O boy it appears you are on your way to Aso Rock, given your new found closeness to the President Elect" and he replied 'NEVER". The rest is history and he is doing a good job at it. I wish someone can put a mic to him and ask this simple question "how many times have you spoken to your principal since November 23, 2009." BTW Dele was just a BIG FOOL.
Segun Adeniyi is a scum of the earth.

Wao, you must have been current with the Nigerian media, knew a little about Fame magazine back on campus when it was popular. I think the editor or the co-owner of the magazine was FAJ. Remember him? Never knew that the magazine is out of circulation. One of my favorites was Quality magazine.
Fame was jointly owned by 3 softsell journalists;FAJ, Kunle Bakare (the present owner of Econmium) and Mayor Akinpelu (owner of Global Excellence). The financial muscle behind the project was some rich yoruba man (the name escapes my memory at present).
The trio as joint owners was a suggestion floated by MEE and Dele Momodu did the leg work of talking the three into it (as their was a bit of sceptism on the part of some of the trio).
FAJ was the best music cum entertainment journalist that graced the Nigerian showbiz industry.
The guy was knowledgeable, opinionated and thorough.
There has never been anyone close to his standards ever since he left the scene.
Politics › Jn Oath: How We Averted Chaos, By Vp by mbulela(op): 2:06am On Jan 05, 2010
Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday spoke for the first time on the controversial swearing-in of a new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), admitting that he lacked the powers to administer the oath on Justice Alloysius Katsina-Alu.

He however said but for “divine intervention”, there would have been chaos if one arm of government did not have a leadership.
The former CJN, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, in the absence of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, had last Wednesday sworn in Justice Katsina-Alu as the 11th CJN despite protests from some lawyers and civil rights activists.

Kutigi had justified the action by saying that the Oath Act of 2004 provides for the swearing-in of the CJN, Justices of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal and Justices of the Court of Appeal, among others by the President or the CJN.

In his remarks at the Thanksgiving Service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Central Parish, Abuja, Jonathan revealed that he was very worried that there could be a vacuum leading to chaos should an arm of government be left without a leadership.
Jonathan said: “We have lots of challenges. Look at what happened during the swearing-in of the Chief Justice.

Before then when we were confronted with that situation. A few days to December 31, the Thursday the Chief Justice of Nigeria was supposed to retire, we were worried.

As a Vice-President, based on our laws, I do not have any powers to swear in the Chief Justice of Nigeria. It is a ceremonial responsibility and ceremonial functions are sometimes more serious than the real work we do. I do not have the powers to swear in the Chief Justice of the Federation.

I was worried that if we got to that Thursday and the Chief Justice of Nigeria was not sworn in, that would mean one arm of government had no leader and that would have been an invitation to chaos.

“As at that time, because the tradition had been there for 51 years where President swears in the Chief Justice, no Nigerian or even senior lawyers cared to look at the other aspect of the law.

In fact, I even had to approach the former Chief Justice. I said, Look, I have the powers to extend your period of stay in the office… since I cannot swear in a new Chief Justice, can’t I extend your stay in office so that there will be no vacuum? But he said it was not possible because the Constitution says at the age of 70 he must go.

“But he promised he was going to re-examine the laws. I got back to my office. I was terribly worried within that period. A few days to the time (expiration of the tenure of the former CJN), the Attorney-General [Mike Aondoakaa] came and showed me the Act that says either the President or the Chief Justice of the Federation can swear in the new Chief Justice of the Federation. That law was there but nobody saw it.”

He used this experience to implore Christians to always look up to God in moments of challenges.
“What I am saying is that as a nation, as individuals we might have challenges,” he said. “Sometimes, when we have major challenges, it helps us to look more into our lives, look more into whatever there is… even as Christians there are times we think when things are going well, we think it is because of our ability, our intelligence, our background, because of whatever… we don’t know is the grace of God that those things are happening to us. Sometimes, it is good to have challenges even as individuals.

Even in sickness, I believe God wants to tell us that He is the only person who is keeping us alive, that whatever we are, it is by His grace.”

Jonathan, who thanked Nigerians for praying for the nation at these challenging times, assured Nigerians that there is a brighter tomorrow for Nigerians.

He said: “I want to specially thank all of you for the prayers you have been offering for this country, especially within this time that we have a lot of challenges, as a nation and as government. Because we pray no matter the turbulence, no matter the challenges we have, God will see us through.

“And of course, you know our President has been out of the country for about 39 days today (yesterday) on health ground and those of you who bother to read the papers, sometimes you feel as if the whole country is sinking. People call me and wonder if I even sleep after reading the stories in the papers.

“Whatever we are facing as a nation within this period is because God wants to tell us that he is in charge and that nobody, no human being is in charge. I want to sincerely thank you on behalf of the Government of Nigeria that you have been praying for Mr. President, the country and I pray that you continue to pray.”

Nigerian footballer Victor Agali, who plays for Greek club Levadiakos, has been arrested at Schiphol airport near Amsterdam for carrying two fake passports according to the Dutch military police.

"At passport control, on December 27, he (Agali) was found to be in possession of a fake passport," said gendarmerie spokesman Robert van Kapel.

According to the Dutch the 31-year-old striker who was in transit via Schiphol from Lagos to Athens, had two sets of fake travel documents, said Van Kapel.

"In the one, the page with his personal particulars has been modified, in the other it was the visa," he said.

A judge will decide on Monday whether to extend the footballer's provisional detention for further investigation. Agali has played for teams like Marseille (1996-97), Toulon (1997-98), Nice (2004-2005) and Schalke 04 (2001-2004).

On Christmas Day, a 23-year-old Nigerian was arrested in the United States for the botched bombing of a Northwest Airlines plane bound for Detroit from Schiphol.

Long before Ovation, Dele was writing for FAME magazine (when FAME was sold for 3 Naira). He had 3/4 of the back page to himself and he was a fervent june 12 vanguard.i followed his methamorphosis closely as Ovation unfolded with people like Ike Okonta and RMD as guest columnists.

I mean none, without exception.
When Segun Adeniyi accepted the job as Yar Adua's spokesman, i send him an SMS.less than 100 characters and those words will stand in judgement against him before his maker.
Is it by force to defend mediocrity and ineptitude?
Did Yar Adua hold a gun to his head?
There is no justification for the man called Segun Adeniyi.
Who is asking him to criticize his boss in public?
If Segun Adeniyi was not job hunting by deceiving the public with all those sermons of his on the back of Thursday THISDAY, then he would have resigned 3 months into the life of this administration.

Politics › Worry Over String Of Illegalities In Govt by mbulela(op): 6:55pm On Jan 03, 2010
From Martins Oloja, Abuja Bureau Chief

AS Abuja laps up yet another assurance nurtured by spin doctors that President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua may return to his presidency next week, there is a worrisome mood within a section of the civil society that he may return to face a string of illegalities. The challenges may, in fact, be too many for his "wobbly and accident-prone administration," said some critical observers at the weekend.

Specifically, The Guardian witnessed an informal colloquium on the state of the nation, on the first day of the year, where most participants concluded that, "the Yar'Adua administration will be further weakened by a series of constitutional breaches when it faces the electorate soon."

Said one of the participants, "For a government that prides itself on the observance of "rule-of-law mantra, it is embarrassing that the administration has recorded since 2008, more illegalities than all the successor administrations put together, "

The participants including lawyers, civil society activists and academics, numbering 17 actually listed six critical areas where alleged breaches have been most visible; while the Attorney General of the Federation has reportedly looked the other way."

The key issues raised are:

Service Chiefs remain unconfirmed according to Army Act 2004
No Clerk in National Assembly that conveyed Appropriation Bill to Saudi
Oath Act elevated above the Constitution on CJN swearing in
40 days absence without Acting President
DG NAFDAC appointed without membership of PCN
DG SEC appointed without required qualifications in capital market.
One discussant, a lawyer noted a case exclusively reported by The Guardian, on Monday June 2, 2008; titled "General in Court, Queries Service Chiefs' Appointments". The discussant who spoke in a passionate tone noted that, "as we speak now, the Yar'Adua administration has refused to comply with Section 18 of the Army Act (2004), which provides that Service Chiefs must be confirmed by the National Assembly before they can assume office.

The issue came to light in 2008 through a retired General's quest for justice in the conventional court against the military authorities that never confirmed the appointments of service chiefs that allegedly retired him.

Section 18 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20 Laws of the Federation, 2004 Provides in Sub-section (1): the President may after consultation with the Chief of Defence staff and subject to confirmation by the National Assembly, appoint such officers (in this Act referred to as "the Service Chiefs"wink as he thinks fit, in whom the command of the Army, Navy, And Air Force, as the case may be, and their Reserves shall be vested.

Subsection 2 states: "The Service Chiefs shall be known - (a) in the case of the Nigerian Army, as the Chief of Army Staff (b) In the case of the Nigerian Navy, as the Chief of Navy Staff, and (c) In the case of Air Force, as Chief of Air Staff"

It would be recalled that this paper noted that, no Service Chief had been confirmed by the National Assembly since 1999, when this democratic dispensation began, not even since 2004. And the ones that the President Yar'Adua appointed shortly after the revelation of the lacuna in court in 2008 have not been confirmed till date. No names were submitted to the National Assembly.

Inquiries too to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House on why they have not asked the President to send his nominees to the National Assembly for confirmation has not received any response since 2008.

Another critical breach is the non-compliance with Section 51 of the Constitution, which specifically provides for the appointment of the Clerk of the National Assembly. This is the provision: There shall be a Clerk of the National Assembly and such other staff as may be prescribed by an Act of the National Assembly, and the method of appointment of the Clerk and other staff of the National Assembly shall be as prescribed by that Act.

The colloquium pointed out that there is an indication that the new Supplementary Appropriation Act may be voided by a court very soon, not because of the controversy generated by the reported assent of the President in Saudi Arabia, but because according to the legal process of transmitting Bills to the President, it is only the Clerk to the National Assembly that can do that, not the presiding officers of the National Assembly. But at the time of transmitting the Supplementary Appropriation Bill to the reportedly recuperating President in Saudi Arabia last week, there was no Clerk of the National Assembly. Reason: The discussants quoted a recent revelation in The Guardian to the effect that, the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly that signed the document as Clerk of the National Assembly has not been appointed, even as Acting Clerk by the National Assembly Commission. Mr. Yemi Ogunyomi who signed the Bill to the President is still Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Nasir Arab began his terminal leave since October 12, 2009 when Mr Ogunyomi was announced as Acting Clerk without any letter, even till date and his (Arab's) terminal leave will end on 12 January 2010. There is no indication that by January 12, 2010, there will be a Clerk of the National Assembly.

But mysteriously, by a curious twist of politics in the National Assembly inner recesses, there is no Clerk of the National Assembly, no Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, no Clerk of the Senate, No Clerk of the House of Representatives and no Deputy Clerk in the House since the Deputy Clerk in the House Mr. Oyeniyi Stephen Ajiboye began pre-retirement leave in October last year.

Despite the provision in Section 51 of the 1999 Constitution, there has been no Clerk in the Senate since June 10, 2008, when Alhaji Umaru Sani retired as Clerk of the Senate. Similarly, the last Clerk of the House of Representatives Chief Collins Walter Nwosa retired since 12 January 2005.

But the discussants feared that some opposition leaders might go to court soon, to challenge the validity of the Appropriation Bill transmitted by an "illegal" Clerk of the National Assembly to the President in Saudi Arabia. The Attorney General of the Federation announced gleefully last week that the President had signed the 2009 Supplementary Appropriation Bill into law in his hospital bed in Saudi Arabia.

It is the same way lawyers, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Chief Adegboyega Awomolo were last week worried by the manner the new Chief Justice of Nigeria was sworn in without a letter of appointment by the President.

The former Attorney General of Osun State, Awomolo said there had been no appointment of a new CJN, as the Senate had only conveyed a confirmation to the office of the President.

As a participant at the colloquium put it, "what if the President returns next week to nominate another CJN since he has not reacted formally to the confirmation of the new CJN with a letter appointing Justice Katsina Alu, who was controversially sworn in last week by outgoing CJN, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, who was made to rely on an Oath Act, instead of the 1999 Constitution's provision that the President should do so.

There were reports of eight Justices of the Supreme Court, who were absent at the swearing in ceremony last week, although all of them are resident in Abuja.

Apart from the absence of the President for the past 41 days without authorising the Vice President to act as President, the colloquium also noted that it was on record that when the Director General of NAFDAC was appointed early last year to replace the current Information Minister, the nominee was not a registered member of the Pharmacists' Council of Nigeria (PCN), as provided by the NAFDAC enabling Act. It was recalled that the nominee from Benue is actually a physician, who was staying in the United States at the time.

How come its easier for you to worship Fashola's gardening project in Lagos than for you to appreciate Amaechi's building of hospitals and schools??
My opinion?? You've got a feudalist outlook!! In your mind, it is practically impossible 4 a Niger Delta Governor to have performances anywhere near that of Fashola.

I think investment in Health and Education is the best thing any state can engage in. This is good. It would stimulate similar efforts in other competing states.
I am not particularly negative and neither am i comparing him to Fashola.
As a matter of fact, i think that Fashola is not being held up to enough scrutiny by the press and his admirers and i also suspect his developmental efforts might be concentrated in elitist areas and on the elites.i am still waiting to see what he is doing about the menance of area boys that is a nightmare for the working class and the poor.Go through my posts, i have never been a sycophant of Fashola and never will be.

On the Amaechi issue, the quality of some of these jobs are seriously suspect, especially the road projects.
i see no way that my request for maintenance of equipment and manpower for these fancy buildings is being negative.
i gave a good example of demoralized and unmotivated workforce that made the health cares almost irrelevant last year irrespective of the fine buildings.
In addition, i simply called for a cohesion in the developmental plans.
nothing negative.

back to the topic, littering the state with buildings all in the name of development (a disguise for job for the boys) is not the paramount matter.the more important matter is maintenance, equipment and motivating the staff that are meant to man these health centers.
Last year most primary health centers in the state were manned by NYSC doctors.these doctors were not paid their allowance(not the NYSC 9,500) for 12 months.infact they were only paid two days before passing out.
The NYSC doctors just abandoned their duty post for private practice.
how does fine building solve these and similar problems?

on another note, i hope these developmental projects are integrated? Not just scattered projects that do not serve the same process.
the summary of my post is that there is more to this business of development than just putting blocks together and coating buildings with paint.
the fact that we are saddled with ineptitude those not mean that we should be swayed by mediocrity.
In Nigeria, he who is able to work the media most, wins(Thisday awards is proof to that fact).
That is why i am unwilling to join the bandwagon.
Politics › Police May Declare Lawmaker Wanted Over Accident by mbulela(op): 9:47pm On Jan 02, 2010
By Godwin Ifijeh, 01.02.2010

The police in Lagos may declare a federal lawmaker wanted over a recent accident in the metropolis, which left about four persons seriously injured.

Police sourses at the Isolo Police Divisional Headquar-ters in Isolo, Lagos, which yesterday confirmed a recent situation report of the Lagos State Police Command, alleging the involvement of the vehicle of the member of the House of Represen-tatives in a head on collision with a commercial transport bus in the metropolis on December 28, 2009, said the lawmaker has refused to show up to explain the circumstances surrounding the accident not withstanding the fact that his vehicle remains impounded with the police.

A police situation report dated December 28, 2009, had alleged that Hon. Olakunle Amunikoro, a member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ogun State at about 0100 hours on December 28,2009, drove against traffic along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in a vehicle with registration No. NASS-FL 362 and had a head on collision with a commercial Toyota Hiace Bus with registration No. XB 913 DDD at Odo-Olowu Bus Stop, leaving four passengers in the commercial vehicle severely injured.

The report went further to state that the four injured persons were rushed to a near by hospital for treatment while the honourable member, who sustained a minor injury, was yet to be located.

A police source further said yesterday that the lawmaker ,who was alone in the vehicle, drove from the Mile 11 end of the road toward Oshodi, on top speed not withstanding the fact that he was going against traffic, until he ran into the commercial bus, which was going toward Mile 11, at the Odo-Olowu Bus Stop.

The lawmaker, the source said, abandoned his vehicle, just as the commercial bus before the police later towed both vehicles away to the Isolo Divisional Headquarters, where they had remained since then without the legislator showing up.

“We have the feeling that they are trying to sort out things among themselves before they will show up, if we wait and we don’t see the legislator after a while, we may be left with no other option but to declare him wanted, four people sustained serious injuries in the accident, we don’t know what became of them, they may have died , before we got to the scene, the injured persons had been moved away, we learnt that they were taken to the nearby Chosen Hospital, we traced them there and we were told that they had been moved to Isolo General Hospital, we went there, we were told again that they had been moved away to a place they could not ascertain, since then neither the lawmaker or the driver of the commercial bus has shown up, both vehicles, however, are with us, we don’t think they will abandon them here forever, but where we don’t see them after a while, we may have to declare them wanted to know what happened and what bacame of those who sustained injuries in the accident,” the police source said.

puskin:
In various countries around d world, registration details is relevant  only if U want 2buy a postpaid line,
NCC want 2nw force operators 2apply it 2pre-paid lines as well.
In which country do network operators obtain registration details b4 selling U a pre-paid line? undecided

Im waiting.
those are ignorant comments.
a little search will prevent such ignorance.
The more relevant fact is that this will be a project to enrich a few, frustrate the majority and the result is known before it begins.
as long as there is one unregistered SIM, the project will be deemed a technical failure.
