Fear is our biggest problem. In the US and UK, where I've lived, no politician can try any nonsense. The people will deal with the person. The only backside.hole to mes up recently was George Bush and that was because he capitalized on the fear that permeated the American society after the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.

We Nigerians are bloody cowards and timid buffoons! Instead of slapping those greedy politicians, you see Nigerians dobaleing for those scoundrels!

Recall that Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at George W. Bush? That is what I'm talking about! Guts! Which Nigerian will think of doing that to any of our useless government officials? Why can't we hear that a Nigerian citizen landed a very solid slap on one those pot-bellied kleptomaniacs? When are we going to get angry enough to punish the imbeciles that have put us in this perpetual state of poverty?
during your numerous visits to Nigeria, how many of the greedy politicians have you slapped?

The problem is not the praying.
the problem is the lack of accompanying action.
I have no problem praying for Yar'Adua as long as he does the constitutional thing by either resigning or handing over to Jonathan.
Prayer alone is crap.
Faith without works is dead.
Prayer is been used as a manipulative act by the barbarians at the gate to entrench their policies of deceit and greed.
We have had enough of prayers, what we need now is action.

The accent was a sidenote by the way. Moreover, I don't really care where Ojo is from- if he was yoruba I would have called it an ogbomosho accent, and if he was hausa, I would have called it a sokoto accent. I dont even know where onitsha is grin grin. The big difference between him and chiamanda is a lack of confidence. I don't want my foreign minister to be talking like a lazy man full of palm wine right in front of BBC.

Anyways my gripe is with the whole Nigerian government and that's it. Bunch of incompetent fools.
that is not correct.

That man does not lack any confidence.
he lacks intelligence and has deceit, selfishness and greed in abundance.

I used to think it was corruption until two weeks ago.
I came to the realization that curroption is present in every society. The underlying cause for the wanton prevalence in ours is an ineffective system that produces a group of leaders that are not only ineffective but inept, greedy, decietful and devoid of any sort of integrity.
That ineffective system is the underlying cause of every other problem that persists in this country.
If we can break the hold of barbarians over leadership in this country, then we can begin to address other problems. Then we can begin to see a sincere addressing of the NEPA issue, Niger Delta and even a minimization of corruption (i did not say eradication o!).
The present situation in the presidency where everyone without exception in the political space is consumed by greed, self preservation and even ineptitude bares credence to this fundamental and in my view most worrying problem if the country.
Until that is addressed, we will be going in circles and the barbarians will keep despoiling our collective heritage and resources.
The only exception will be that their greed and selfishness consumes them before the resources are exhausted.

Afterall, Nigerians are not the worst followers, we are not the most populous, we are not the only ones with oil, we are not the most corrupt.Their is no bad trait that is our exclusive preserve. But i think that the System that produces our leaders is not only most ineffective but also moribund. That is why we keep recycling the same barbarians and their children. If it is not Saraki, it is Saraki's son.I it is not Yar'Adua, it is Yar Adua's brother. The same Lukman, the same Ojukwu, the same Ojo Madueke, the same Babangida and the same Afenifere lot.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the trouble to contact us.

Do you have any proof for your allegation that it was an imposter?

The interview was set up through the president's office.

And the BBC's Mansur Liman is a very experienced Nigerian journalist,
who can recognise his president's voice.

Politics › Bank Ceos Vote N300m To Fight Me – Sanusi by mbulela(op): 7:31am On Jan 18, 2010
ABUJA — GOVERNOR of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi, yesterday, raised alarm that some of the sacked bank chief executive officers, CEOs, have budgeted N300 million to fight him through the media, alleging that already N120 million has been deployed for sustained media war against him.

Speaking after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Presidential Villa, the CBN boss said N120 million of the budget has already been spent on newspaper publications meant to tarnish his image and efforts, which have seen the sack and prosecution of some bank chief executives.

He said: “I don’t think that anybody can do things that we did without expecting any reaction. I knew people will react. They will fight in the newspapers, in the courts of law; they will fight in any way they can. All we have to do is to remain focused and do what needs to be done. We are not in any way worried about what the people are doing and we should not let them divert attention.”

Fielding questions from State House Correspondents on criticisms and challenges facing his reforms, the CBN boss said: “we actually know the person that writes the publications; we actually know the person that has paid for the publications, we actually know how much has been spent. There was a budget of N300m, N120m has been spent. We know exactly who they are and where they are. We know what their relationships are with the CEOs that were removed, but it is not important in any way because it has no impact on what we are doing and what we will continue to do and that is it.”

Sanusi had briefed the FEC on the banking reforms and the performance of the nation’s economy during which he announced that the 6.9 per cent growth of GDP in 2009 was expected to rise above seven per cent for 2010, and that the exchange rate of the naira against foreign currencies was also expected to remain stable. He said: “The increasing growth rate was sequel to improved performance of the agriculture and oil sector, particularly with the peace reigning in the Niger Delta now.

I was at the FEC today (yesterday) as part of the quarterly briefing as institutionalized by the President that at end of every quarter. The briefing covers development in the macro-economy, GDP numbers, development in the banking system and outlook on the near to the long term. We briefed the council on the latest growth figure on the GDP which shows that our GDP potential growth by six points, precisely nine per cent in the year 2009 despite the difficult environment.

“We did note that all of that growth came from agriculture and the positive development in the oil and gas sector after the peace in the Niger Delta and also the retail trade. However, manufacturing remains flat and there is, therefore, a need to focus on manufacturing in order to create jobs.

We also briefed council on the outcome of Enugu retreat of the banks and the decision of the banks to propose to the government policy measures that are required in the areas of power, agriculture and transport infrastructure to encourage inflow of private investment and bank lending to those areas. We also briefed council on the quarter result of the banks and reasons why banks were compelled to reduce workers. The council urges banks to minimize the pains of restructuring on their own workers.

However, we recognize the fact that if the banks are not making money they will be unable to continue to retain these workers. The council, however, continues to urge the banks to ensure that in whatever they do, they comply with the terms of their collective agreement as well as the contract they have with the staff,

Bright economic outlook

“Finally, we did brief council that the outlook of the economy remains bright and that forecast growth for 2010 of over seven per cent, oil prices are high, output is improving, we expect foreign reserves to be stable, we expect foreign exchange rate to remain stable. In general, so long as we make progress on the power reforms, and infrastructure, we expect growth would remain strong and inflation risk will be mitigated.”

as much as i am a fan of Stella Damasus Aboderin,i think she just needs to shut up on this case.
aiming subtle jabs at her ex inlaws is cheap and depicts her as playing to the gallery.
If she has problems with them, she should either go face them or sulk in the privacy of her bedroom.
If she chooses to talk about it in public, by all means tell the entire story from your own perspective.
not giving the public sound bites.
we all know that the Aboderins are not paupers (the family are the original owners of PUNCH newspapers).
i have said it before, will say it again; to every family feud, there are three sides to it: his side, her side and the truth.

We are a 'Nehemiah Generation' . Christianity is not what you do in church, it is what you do outside church. Jesus said we should preach the gospel to all the worlds. The world includes politics, banking, family, oil and gas, education, entertainment, etc. We are the salt of the earth, to give meaning to this world. Nehemiah though a holy man of God, led the revolution towards the rebuilding of he broken walls of Jerusalem.

Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, there is no better time than now for Christians to pick up active roles towards rebuilding the broken structures of our country. The reason why with all the churches we have in Nigeria, evil is still prevailing is because we have refused to take Christianity outside the four corners of the church.
dem no dey preach dat one for Nigerian churches.

@kobo I stil tink u are wrong to say he neglected his duties witout informin anyone about where he was goin, remember we were all told he had pericarduatis nd had gone to Saudi what other declaration do we need. On the issue of protest we quite agree if they had com out to say Enuf is Enuf it wld hav bin Ok but u saw what they ended up doing nd for a pastor to be among them I insist is a pity at most he should organise his protest with his followers in prayer nd fasting
all these prayer, prayer talk all over the place is nauseating.
have you not heard that faith without works is dead?
there comes a time that even to pray is a sin.
there comes a time when a man must get up from his bended knees and stand.
stand for truth.
stand against tyranny.
stand against docility.
stand against rascality and deceit.

the time is now.
the time for only prayer has past.

there is this erroneous impression that the church should be so heavenly minded and earthly useless.
no one has answered me the question on diesel and generators i asked earlier as it concerns big churches like RCCG and Winners.
my view is that Nigerian churches have their priorities mixed up.I am not sure it is due to ignorance, more of selfishness and docility.

@mbulela I totally disagree hw many times did Jesus lead a protest nd his apostles after him Pastor Bakare should leave politics to the politicians he shld concentrate on winnin souls to christ pastors should be unbiased nd non partisan
i don't want to turn this thread into a religion thread. i wish to respect constituted authority on this forum by keeping this post political.
however, as much i respect your view, i also disagree with it.
the church is not just about winning souls and winning souls is not just about preaching preaching on a pulpit.
the church may not be of this world but it is in this world.
if you keep quiet in the face o the ineptitude, crass rascality and mediocrity that surrounds us,how then can the Church be the salt of the earth?
the argument that Jesus would not have protested is simplistic and more importantly wrong.
the early church and Jesus would have stood or truth and not compromise like the Nigerian church leaders.
Politics › Re: Should A Pastor (tunde Bakare) Join To Carry Placards? by mbulela: 5:20am On Jan 16, 2010
RCCG and Winners (to mention but a few), spend millions on generators and diesel, yet none have taken the battle on our poor power generation and distribution to the barbarians in power.
When have they picketed the gates of Aso rock or NASS on the issue of NEPA?
yet they gather millions every month for one congress or the other.
Even when Sam Adeyemi organised a rally, they could not support him.
the church like the rest of Nigeria is dying of docility.
too much praying without action is the hallmark of unbelief.

I wish their were more of his type.
Politics › Re: Should A Pastor (tunde Bakare) Join To Carry Placards? by mbulela: 5:13am On Jan 16, 2010
Tunde Bakare probably believes in the efficacy of his prayers for the nation, hence his decision to add action to his prayers.
after all, faith without works is dead!!
the other pastors are probably unbelievers in disguise.
praying is the very easy part, walking the talk is where most fail.
the others probably do not even believe what they pray, hence their docility.
