bolaji73: you're right, only a dumb fellow would believe that quality education comes cheap.but I believe there are some methodologies used by our leaders in the past to render quality education though such is not viable now due to the present population. But why can't the government reduce the number of slot in each department to suit her recommended budget instead of biting more than it can chew? After all not all those who chose the school in the first place are offered admission.exactly. trying to use tuition to run a university is utter myopia. If a university with all the intelligence inherent in its faculty cannot generate funds outside tuition,it should close down. Still that does not mean that university education will be free. |
claycares: Not 100, 200 or 500 percent increase, over 1000 percent increase in the first place. Putting the cart before the horse. Insane and disenchanted leaders. waiting for that Layi Mohammed to start ranting on air.The hike was way too high but the downside now is that Lasu will face massive underfunding as I doubt the govt can support it as expected. Free education in a grossly underdeveloped environment like ours where similar basics are lacking is an almost not feasible option. |
anonimi: I agree with your IDEA completely but realise that the ROOT problem is the blatant stealing, theft and corruption going on under Fashola's watch. There is need for less sentiments in this matter. I do no hold brief for Tinubu and cannot confirm whether he has his ten fingers in the cookie jar or not. One thing I know is that it is slightly daft to compare Fashola's time with Jakandes'. What was the population of Lagos then? Even the sheer size of the city now dwarfs whatever you had in Jakande's time. There might be crooks in the lagos system but I doubt even with saints in there we will get free education as you suggest. You underestimate the size of Lagos needs. |
bolaji73: Sir, I really get your drill and it's highly commendable, but I have one question for you and will be glad if you give me an holistic response. What give you the impression that a state with the highest internal generated revenue within the country will find it difficult to render free and qualitative education to its citizenry? The internally generated revenue you talk about is a drop in the ocean of needs (not wants) that is facing the state on a daily basis. Check out the percentage of the population that pay tax,for all that Fashola has done, there is so much more left undone due to a lack of funds. There are needs as pressing if not more pressing than free education that the state has not met and is unable to meet with its often lauded internal generated revenue and it is nothing to do with corruption or Tinubu supposedly having his hands inn the till. |
Amanwulu1: oh! I see. Is it not too late considering dat d people already have their plan for 2015? i.e to vote out d elitists' party. If only their was an option on ground. PDP is no option. Lagos has progressed too far to take such a retrogressive step. |
I wish to ask this again; Who died? The nurse or the doctor or both? The info in the public domain is so confusing. |
The minister however said he would not disclose the names of the commissioners so that they would not be sacked by Amaechi before December. “By December, the commissioners would have made enough money to sustain themselves and their families before resigning their appointments from the state executive council,” he said. |
The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said six serving commissioners in Rivers State will resign their positions in December and defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike spoke at Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State during the official launch of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Economic Empowerment and Conditional Cash Transfer Programmes in the state by the wife of the president, Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan. Expressing confidence that the PDP would win in the state in the 2015 polls, Wike said the PDP in the state had an understanding with the commissioners that they would resign from Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s cabinet in December and return to the PDP. The minister however said he would not disclose the names of the commissioners so that they would not be sacked by Amaechi before December. “By December, the commissioners would have made enough money to sustain themselves and their families before resigning their appointments from the state executive council,” he said. Addressing Mrs. Jonathan, Wike said: “Your Excellency, I want you to remember today’s date, August 6. I declare here today that PDP will win Obio/Akpor and Rivers State. You will call me to say that I said so. You can tell your security or protocol to remind you that I (Wike) said it here, in Akpor Grammar School, Ozuoba, Obio/Apkor Local that PDP will win the governorship election and retain Rivers State. “Let me also tell you that by December, six commissioners will resign and join us in PDP. The arrangement we had was that they should remain there (state executive council) and make enough money to take care of themselves and their families. “If I mention their names now, they will be sacked. So, we want them to remain there and make enough money and join us then. I will not mention names, but when the time comes you will know them.” Wike said the people of the state would continue to support Jonathan and would vote for him if he finally declares to run for a second tenure. On the empowerment programme of the first lady, Wike said it was the first time 3,650 households would be reached in one day in the state. “We have never seen empowerment of this magnitude to the people of Rivers State. This shows the passion and commitment of the first lady to the people of Rivers state. I believe this is the empowerment to any state,” Wike said. “Look at what the first lady is giving. These are brand new buses,” he said, even as he called on people of the state to continue to support President Jonathan and his wife ahead of the 2015 elections. |
White007: You have not be following the news, else you should have known why the American doctors didn't die and the Nigerian doctor died.WHY NOT EDUCATE HIM OR HER,SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN following the news. |
Other reports say Nurse, this one said female doctor. Are we sure two persons are not dead? |
This is not unexpected. A man collapses in the airport of an ebola free country. Fellow passengers rush to him, suspecting a heart attack. Security calls the doctor on call. An ambulance with paramedics arrive, moving the suspected heart attack victim. He is brought in the hospital. One stone thrown in a pond causes ripples. |
Ibime rap pass ice prince |
ihedinobi2: Woman? Are you sure? His name is Oluchukwu Aloysius-Gonzaga. I don't remember his last name well now. It's a Nw-something.Oluchukwu is often a female name. The Aloysius-Gonzaga could be a surname. |
cococandy: , it'll be very obvious this topic is about chimamanda and nothing else.why the attack? the writer attacked issues that happen to have been raised by Ms. Adichie. I wonder what proves the writer does not have a life? You certainly do not think that anyone who is not a celebrity is living a lesser life? |
naijababe: I am afraid before dem name NL ashi oWho wan drag the title with you? |
cococandy: First the wirter says the problem of female suppression doesn't exist in Nigeria.I see your point but likewise I fail to take serious an argument (Ms. Adichie's) that asserts that ‘Nigerians raise girls wrongly and in ways that make them feel guilty for being born girls’. I look around me and I see women who have not been raised with an iota of such guilt and I know the women around me are not exceptional nor are the only one who are being raised right. My problem with Ms. Adichie is the hypocritical extreme she has chosen to adopt and secondly the self-assumed impression that she is an oracle on all topics. In addressing an extreme she has ran to the other extreme and as a critic, nothing could be more hypocritical. She is a good writer,a very good one at that but that does not give her the sole right and authority to make pronounciation on issues in which are experience is neither unique nor exceptional. |
VantagePoint: Oh please!I am quoting a newspaper report of their press conference. I did not watch this video. So I stand to be corrected. |
This woman and her colleague, the commissioner of health claimed that malaria is a symptom of Ebola. That was where I gave up on their tips. Folks had better keep away from bush meat until further notice. Don't trust this woman masquerading as an intellectual. LASG often has top experts but these two let me down big time. |
bangiskings: IDIOT I prophesy to u in the mighty name of JESUS b4 the end of this month ur wretched parent will be victims of bomblast you will surely feel the pain of loosing love1 2ru bombDaft prayer. Jesus came that men may have life. He did not come to kill and destroy. Your prayer is dead on arrival. Jesus rejects such prayers in his name. |
quid: Many lower rank nigerian soldiers are muslims and boko haram sympathizers.I know it sounds trendy but this line of argument is faulty. Many Muslims.are as scared of BH as non-Muslims. The military has been neglected for so long and professionalism has gone to the dogs. Most of the generals there now are nothing but token generals. |
Justbright: .a man dat left billions of naira meant for various power project in his private accountsSome malicious lies must never go unchallenged. I happen to be a balanced fan of the late Bola Ige. A man who towers above the entire lineage of Omisore and his likes, both as a man and a politician. He had his faults as a human and a politician but he was never a thief. Not in a million years. Either, provide proof of the lies above or be certified a fool who talks without engaging his mind. |
Osun PDP, in a statement by its chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, said the APC governors’ action enabled Aregbesola’s government, “which apparently lacks respect for the welfare of workers,” to pay workers part of their July salaries. What is today's date? |
Fulaman198: So are people working on a cure for Ebola? Instead of worrying about Qur'an and Bible, shouldn't we have scientists who are working on vaccines for deadly epidemics that are within the continent? Shouldn't our health equipment be in the top 10 in the world. I am very ashamed sometimes of Nigeria. You are slightly daft. |
tbagjames: sraping out is not an option, resuscitation is the curewhy is it not an option? It is utter c.rap A drain on the nation's resources and a conduit for embezzlement and corruption. |
scrap this damned program. send graduates for intense para-military training for six months and afterwards let them get involved in volunteer community based services in their town of residence. |
bigass: All they need to do is to ensure that roads are built to international standards and put stiff penalties in event of failures earlier than 5years or 10 years. That is if you do road and it goes bad before 5 or 10 years the contractor should be jailed for 25yrvery good idea but the issues in naija are always intertwined. Often the contractor has spent up to 30 percent in bribing govt officials,so only 70 percent in left to do the job. Also the same officers who collect bribes are the ones who are meant to enforce your rule. So,how far? One more point, often their are also middlemen involved in winning the contract,so by the time the construction firm gets involved, less than 50% is available for building the road. |
PNomsule: "Helicopters, Night-vision Other EquipmentI did not see your post on time. take a LIKE. |
We already know where the girls are,so why do we need night vision equipment to aid the search? |
size38: Politics aside, GEJ is simply an embarrassment to mankind.Blunt but true |
tomiobj: Please check the interview with phyno after ghost mode on googlepost it here. |
Funny enough, I think they all owe their success to Lord of Ajasa and Nigga Raw. These two did the most to make rap in indigenous languages top rate. |
