Fading away like the stars of the morning, Losing their light in the glorious sun: Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling Only remembered by what we have done. Only the truth that in life we have spoken, Only the seed that on earth we have sown; These shall pass onward when we are forgotten, Fruits of the earth and of what we have done. Shall we be missed, though by others succeeded, Reaping the fields we in springtime have sown? Yes, but the sowers must pass from their labours Ever remembered by what they have done. Only remembered, only remembered, Only remembered by what we have done: Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling Only remembered by what we have done. (Composed by Carrie Belle Adams, 1859--1940). |
Islam is without doubt the greatest force for evil in the world today. Mention any other modern religion whose adherrents behead people in the name of their God. I find it perplexing that any sensible person could profess a religion that breeds so much violence and bloodshed. I wonder how the so-called moderate Muslims feel when they hear the daily stories of how their fellow faithful are bombing churches, slaughtering men, molesting and enslaving women, and generally wrecking and pillaging the world, all in the name of Allah. Islam is an unmitigated disaster and the forces behind it must be demonic. |
luvmijeje: And some foolish sets of human beings will tell us Jonathan is not boko-haram.This your sickness is very serious.May God deliver you. |
So tragic! |
First to comment. Glory be to God! As for Amaechi and that lying parrot of his called Ibim S-e-m-e-n or Ibim Sperm, perhaps they think Nigerians are fools. Amaechi does nothing other than campaigning for APC. Which meet-the-people tour has he been undertaking? Is it to tell Rivers people how he has completed the monorail project? Nonsense! Both sides of the political divide in Rivers State (both PDP and APC) have been campaigning for ages now. Let nobody come here and talk about crossing T's snd dotting the I's of governance. There is nothing like governance in Rivers State or in Nigeria as a whole. All we have is looting. |
The coach of the Nigerian national football team Stephen Keshi has rejected a 10-million-naira salary contract from the NFF, saying he wants something much higher and claiming that an Angolan club has offered him 18 million naira monthly. Is Keshi justified in asking for more? Or is this, as some of my friends allege, a demonstration of greed? Over to you Nairalanders. Let's have a debate. Oh no! How sad that we'll be missing Kickoff. For those who don't know, KickoffNigeria is - or was - the equivalent of Nairaland for fans of Nigerian football. I guess the drop in advertising and patronage might be attributable to competition from other football websites like Goal.com. |
Wow, great photography! These shots truly capture what Henri Cartier-Bresson, the father of photojournalism, called the "decisive moment". But while we commend the artistic and technical competence demonstrated in these iconic shots, let's spare a thought for the lives lost and the injuries sustained during the events represented in these photgraphs. |
God will never do for us what He has given us the ability to do for ourselves. If we fail to maintain good personal hygiene but resort instead to binding and loosing evil spirits, we will most likely contract contagious diseases. Shouting "Die by fire, die by thunder" will not prevent Ebola except our faith is coupled with action to avoid the risk factors. If we like we can mix salt, pepper, limestone, bleach or even acid in our bath water, it won't change anything. |
Wetin the bereaved families go take apology do? E go fit bring back the people wey don die? Make them pay damages joor! Make Liberian government compensate the bereaved family. |
They should have banned Nigerians too. In the first instance, why should a secular government sponsor religious pilgrimages? Of what benefit has the Hajj been to Nigeria? |
Shame! This is part of what Fashola has managed to achieve during his tenure as Governor of Lagos. Pictures like this will not stop him and other shameless polithiefcians from stealing the collective patrimony that should be used to secure a higher standard of living for our younger generation. To hear Fashola and his goons speak you would think they have performed unprecedented miracles. God will surely punish you people for subjecting these innocent children to this ordeal. |
I can only commend this young man for this singular demonstration of doggedness and resolve. In life one must stand for something or one will fall for anything. If only we had more of such people, our country would be the better for it. Alas, what we have are lily-livered yes-sayers. May God help us to realise that the road to freedom was not constructed by the acquiescence of assenting collaborators but by the inconvenient, often obstinate, crticisms of those who always wanted something better. |
Although I am not a Catholic, I am a great admirer of the Catholic Pontiff, His Holiness, Pope Francis. What I love most about him is his humility, which, incidentally is the most important virtue I am praying for. Anyway, I have learnt many things from the life of this humble prelate. But I'd like to share his 10-point plan for happiness which I found on the CNN website. To be happy and successful, Pope Francis advises us to: 1) Live and let live 2) Give yourself to others 3) Move quietly in the world 4) Enjoy leisure 5) Remember that Sunday is for families 6) Find jobs for young people 7) Respect nature Let go of negative things quickly9) Don't preach your religion too forcefully 10) Work for peace. I hope these tips will be a blessing to many. If we take this advice to heart our world might just be a better place for it. A more detailed explication of these points is available from the source below. Source: www.edition.cnn.com/2014/08/04/opinion/parini-pope-10-tips-for-happiness/index/html?hpt=hp_c5 |
Historically, there were diseases far more virulent than Ebola, but people survived. Therefore we will survive, in Jesus' name. Amen. |
The solution is to stamp out every religion that preaches hate and violence. Any religion that teaches people to kill and go to paradise is a security risk anywhere in the world. It is the duty of every responsible government to curtail the spread of such a religion. |
I do hope it will turn out to be merely a rumour. Medical doctors have not yet finished theirs. Most lecturers that I know don't even have the appetite for another strike. They complain that the last strike did not yield many dividends in terms of remuneration, apart from the money voted for infrastructure, which money, in any case, is managed and controlled by vice-chancellors and governing councils. |
apacheguy: Y are the xtian folks all over this thread vomiting hatred and frustration, do muslims not have right to practice their religion? This is how religious violence starts and wen it turns into crisis, you guyz who started it wil b the very ones who will start throwing blames forgetting the fact that you started it. And to talk about terrorism all over the world, they all have nothing to do with islam, all terrorism activities were given birth to from politics itself just in the same vein Hilary Clinton confirmed Alqaeda was the creation of the CIA, so please save all these frustrations of yours and direct them to the government and politician playing games of do or die to remain in power and get powerIf Al Qaeda was created by the CIA, who then created the Taliban and Al Shabab and Boko Haram and the Islamic State and the al-Nusra Front and Hezbollah? Presumably the Pentagon did. Or perhaps it was the FBI that manufactured these terrorist groups. Think again, my dear. Islam is the source of its own problems. |
ok |
dirtymoney: That fast? For long will you blame other people for your problems? |
This is the natural outcome of a religion that teaches its adherrents to seek beatification by the extermination of unbelievers. All members of Boko Haram, Al Shabab, Al Qaeda, the Taliban and the Islamic Caliphate are simply acting out a creed that teaches that the road to Paradise is paved with the bones and skulls of unbelievers. The stated goal of these groups, let's not forget, is the islamisation of the world, beginning with the countries in which they operate. That means that if you are a Christian or Hindu or Jew or atheist or pagan in Nigeria you are a persona non grata. That means that insofar as these mass murderers are concerned you should not exist. It is in fact their sworn intention and earnest desire to kill you. It is foolish, therefore to seek dialogue with these beasts. They would sooner spit on the grave of their Prophet than dialogue with "infidels". Neither will they enter into any rapprochement with a democratic government, for democracy is a western abomination, something that should be repudiated in favour of a theocratic state governed by sharia. What, then, is the solution? In my opinion there is none. As long as there are Muslims in this world there will be shouts of "Allahu akbar" followed by deadly bomb blasts and the beheading of some poor "infidels". Any country that does not want that must necessarily condemn itself to an eternity of vigilance that necessarily disrupts human freedom and curtails every sense of ease. The wiser ones, like Angola and the like, have prohibited the building of mosques and madrasas. The naïve ones, like the welfarist states of Scandinavia, are playing with a Burmese python, oblivious of the dangers concomitant with a liberal immigration policy that allows agents of jihadism to proliferate. By the time the ticking population time bomb explodes, it shall have been too late. Call it Islamophobia or whatever you will. Everyone has the right to name things as they deem fit. I choose to call it the reality of Islamic militancy. I might be right - or I might be wrong. But mention one other religion whose adherrents explicitly kill as many people in the name of their god as Muslims do in the name of Allah. Or tell me which other religion has to rely on execution of apostates to keep people from leaving the faith. Or tell me why so many Muslim countries are either at war or enduring perpetual strife. Or indeed tell me why suicide bombing today is almost the exclusive preserve of people who profess Islam. I only pity Nigerians, because our government is as helpless as the poor citizenry. In a country where the only thriving industry is corruption, who cares whether bigots have taken over or indeed whether the country is on fire. The major blame lies with the sardonic soul who played this sick joke on us in 1914. Lord Lugard or whatever is your name, may God reward you accordingly. As for me, this contraption called Nigeria has outlived its usefulness, if it ever was useful. Enough already of this tiresome country! Granted, the dissolution of Nigeria will not solve all our problems, but it will divorce us from people whose very credo calls for perpetual murder. And it will make our numbers and our borders more manageable. Anyone who brings in a doctrine of salvation by homicide would then be easily identified and tackled as the enemy that he or she is. |
Fatdon: [b]Ten Obvious Reasons WhyGod bless you for this post. Anybody who reads this and still wonders why Muslims kill people is simply a dolt. Islam is pure unadulterated evil. |
Anyone who calls Islam the religion of peace needs to have his or her head examined. |
sarutobie: they will be quick to say "igbos and south southerners are always beating the drum of war"....what do you call this?? They will not protest on these bombings of churches but will protest for faraway palestinians abi?..the whole world protested when their daughters were kidnapped by THEIR brothers. .if there is anything I hate most in all the vices of man, it is the putrid smell of hypocrisy. No religion in this world contributes to more bloodshed than Islam. It is the curse of the Middle East, the plague that haunts many countries in Africa, and the pestilence that blighted America on 9/11. Everywhere you find Muslims you find death and wherever there's a mosque or madrasa you can be sure to find potential suicide bombers. From Afghanistan to Zanzibar, Islam has proved to be the most destructive religion ever practised on earth. May God save us from the religion of peace! |
MeAboki: How is that an excuse, is it not a fact that they are killing them many times more than Christians - or are you putting Christian lives more valuable than those of Muslims ?May God punish Boko Haram and their 72 virgins in hellfire. Oh, I forgot to add, and the pedophilic demon whom they worship. |
Gbam! E don happen! When we advise dem say make them follow fight these terrorists them bin think say na Nigerian problem. Now katakata don burst. Make them pray say make Boko boys no carry the woman do joint stock. |
The war we ordered has arrived. Let's enjoy it. |
While I agree that workers have a right to agitate for higher wages, I think the penchant for strikes among medical practitioners in Nigeria is the result of avarice, arrogance and contempt for human life. |
May God save the world from those who would save it! |
I think what is needed is the serenity and cool-headedness to weigh the Sultan's words and to decide whether he is sincere or indeed whether his comments are true. Personally, I cannot claim greater knowledge or perspicacity than any other member of this forum, but my opinion is that much of the advice given by His Eminence is quite sound. The task of fighting this insurgency is indeed the collective responsibility of all Nigerians and should not be done on the basis of some ethnic or political sentiments. Furthermore, as the Sultan noted, rivalry and distrust among the different security agencies will prove counterproductive in this war. Nor will it help us if Christians see this as a Muslim problem, and vice versa. Truth is, we can exchange religious insults from now till eternity and argue till we are blue in the face; it will not change anything. What is needed is unity and a common purpose, to realise that we are our brother's keeper and to rise up with one voice to challenge this impunity. May God help us. |
So Ebola has now arrived in Nigeria! Must every bad thing come to Nigeria? If it were a good thing would Liberians have exported it to us? Islamic terrorism, which we used to hear in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, has now come to stay in Nigeria. Why can't we import good things? Those who brought that Ebola man to Nigeria should better send him back where he came from. If Ebola is a gift we are free to reject it. Abi na by force? |
