I did my NYSC in ahoada west ekpeye kingdom and environ and i was opportuned to visit most of the villages during INEC voters registration exercises ,majority of the villages and town have their origins from Benin kingdom ,I was welcome like a long lost son when I introduced myself that am from Edo during my NYSC ,the chief told their ancestors are from the Benin kingdom and I should feel at home...I visited eze Robinson's Palace with my team then. Traditional title of the king ogbaland in omoku and environ is OBA too they have strong edoid origin.
i served in Rivers and i lived i Rivers. during our orientation in Nonwa Tai LGA. the king of that area spoke to us an h said their origins could be trace to Edo state. i am not disputing the fact that there are edoid groups but my point in reference to the person i quoted i that the EZEs there are Igbos. whether they claim or not its inconsequential to me. most of you people who always say Igbos land grab (the reason why i responded to him because he is among the people who make false claims) Obigbo at the out skirts of Rivers actually belongs to Abia state. there was a court case during the time of Orji. That guy always wants to make the impression that there are no Igbos any where in the ss.

Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has condemned the attacks on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in Benin City, Edo State.

He noted that political practice in the country should not be allowed to degenerate to a situation where violence becomes the language of activism by both politicians and their supporters, no matter how disgruntled such persons may be.

“Such criminal attack remains utterly condemnable and illegal. Whatever their grievances, they should learn to explore dialogue rather than resort to violence.

“I call on the police to get to the root of the matter by prosecuting those involved in the act.

“It is my belief that the fine principles and ethos of democratic practice do have inbuilt mechanisms through which internal wrangling can be resolved without recourse to violence as it was the case in Edo State on Saturday.

“I would like to call on the parties involved to explore those options that would strengthen the party as entrenched in the constitution of the APC as that is the best way to move the state and the nation to the Next Level in which all citizens are expected to reap the dividends of the trust they reposed in the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari”, he said.

People smuggle Guns in through rice containers, and other goods. Which systematically increases the rate of crime.

Another area to tackle gun runners... is to watch those people from Togo and Benin republic, that come in through the water ways... some via smaller boat and some via smaller vessels from the Neighbouring countries.

And please tell the marine police to stop collecting bribe... this arm guys uses the usual faces the Securities knows to be frequently passing a particular route to smuggle in alot of things...

THE UNIVERSITY TOWN OF NSUKKA STOOD STILL WHEN GOV. UMAHI DELIVERED THE UNN 59th FOUNDERS’ DAY LECTURE.:.... MONICA... DESCRIBES UMAHI AS THE PRIDE OF NDI-IGBO, A RARE GEM AND A TOOL FOR THE EMANCIPATION, PROSPEROUS AND BETTER PLACED NIGERIA .

Hope for a better, greater, virile, vibrant, egalitarian and prosperous Nigeria was rekindled by one of her new generation and brightest leaders, Governor David Nweze Umahi (FNATE, FNSE) of Ebonyi State and Chairman of South East Governors' Forum who was a Guest Lecturer during the 59th Founder's Day of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in a Lecture he titled, " PREPARING EBONYI STATE FOR TOMORROW’S ZERO OIL ECONOMY" on 8th October, 2019 .

The Salt of the Nation's Executive Governor, His Excellency, Engr (Dr) David Nweze Umahi the Lion of South East and Chairman of South East Governors' Forum was accompanied to the epochal event by his amiable wife, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Rachel Ogonna Umahi and the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi, His Excellency, Dr Barr Eric Kelechi Igwe.

The Founders’ Day Lecture is a very prestigious lecture and usually signifies the climax of a week-long series of activities lined up to mark the anniversary of Nigeria’s first indigenous university. This year's event was chaired by the first registrar of the University, His Royal Majesty, Eze Chukwuemeka Ike.

His Excellency, Engr (Dr) David Nweze Umahi by delivering this epoch, historical and World changing lecture during the event followed in the footpaths of other prominent Nigerians who delivered the prestigious lecture in the past

Lady Monica Ada Chidinma Eze the President of DUNAETA and Technical Assistant (TA) on Media to Governor Umahi made this remark in a press statement she personally signed and issued on Sunday and circulated in Abakaliki the State capital of Ebonyi State further highlighted that the epoch event took the peaceful town of Nsukka by storm as she has never witnessed such a mammoth crowd for a long time. The historical event took place at the prestigious Princess Alexandria Auditorium and Unity Hall, Nsukka Campus of University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Monica Eze stated that Governor Umahi once described as the wisest Governor in Nigeria and winner of the Zik's award for leadership is the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Vice Chairman of Southern Nigeria Governors Forum in his lecture described as one of the most outstanding lectures ever delivered in the University used the opportunity to expose his political and economic agenda for Ebonyi State.

According to the erudite and eloquent Guest Speaker and Governor of Ebonyi State the Salt of the Nation, Dr Umahi highlighted that Nigeria must shift from single oil economy expressing optimism that with proper investment in both physical and human development, Nigeria’s economy can survive without relying on oil exposing three vital areas Nigeria needs to pursue for a zero oil economy.

The three vital areas include insulating the economy from the risk of being vulnerable to a single commodity; creation of jobs that can raise the living standard of an average Nigerian and preparing for life beyond the oil revenue.

Lady Monica Aka Ada Ebonyi further highlighted that the Governor in his Lecture which he titled: “ *Preparing Ebonyi State for zero oil Economy* ”, Umahi stated that Ebonyi has started laying the foundations for sustained economic growth and prosperity beyond the era of oil.

The TA on Media to Governor Umahi quoted the Governor as saying that the oil economy breeds low standard of living and widens the gap between the poor and rich; economic imbalance as well as encourages unemployment, said that Nigeria must “use oil to move beyond oil; our large population of 180 million people means we do not have enough oil to meet the needs of all our citizens. Nigeria, therefore, cannot expect to only stick to exporting oil, and become a major economic engine, or deepen the size and resilience of its economy.

To achieve this, the governor explained however that the Government must provide opportunities for Nigerians to have easy credit access for small business, opportunities for medium-sized business, modernization in the agriculture sector, development of textiles industries and development of tourism and creative industry.

Ada Ebonyi further quoted her boss thus “in Ebonyi, we have made the modest strides we have made in our state through a combination of prudence, preparation for the future and diversification of our economy beyond oil. We stretch out our hand in partnership to everyone that is willing and able to partner with us on this journey, including this reputable university”.

The event was witnessed by the National Vice Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Deacon Austin Umahi, Secretary to State Government SSG , Ebonyi State, Ugbala Kenneth (PhD), the Chairman People's Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi State, Barr Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, Members of Ebonyi State Executive Council including the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Clement Alobu Nweke,
Royal Fathers, Capital of Industries and all political appointees from Ebonyi State including the Coordinators of Development Centers, members of EAs, STAs and TAs, members of Akubaraoha Youth Assembly.

Others that witnessed the epochal making event were the Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Charles Igwe, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Chief Mike Olorunfemi, a member of the Governing Council of UNN, Alhaji Abdulahi Yunusa, the Chairman of Senate Ceremonials Committee of the university, Prof Bennett C. Nwanguma amongst notable alumni and distinguished Dignitaries.
She described Governor Umahi as an enigma and pride of the new generation of our leaders.

Monica also congratulated her boss for establishing himself as a rare gem and a leading light for our nation.

Politics › Re: Osinbajo Reveals How State Governments Can Tax Nigerians, Generate More Revenues by meccuno: 8:03am On Oct 13, 2019
[s]
iwaeda:
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has challenged states in Nigeria to
explore ways of increasing their internal revenue generation and
boosting their agricultural production.

Osinbajo urged states to do more to harness the entrepreneurial spirit
of Nigerians.

The vice president stated this while delivering the keynote address at
the 18th Meeting of the Joint Planning Board (JPB) and National
Council on Development Planning (NCDP), in Asaba, Delta State capital.

He said, “states must engage in careful and well-thought-out strategic
planning in order to articulate and implement priorities derived from
strategic thinking based on comparative advantages.”

According to Osinbajo, the event themed, 'State Fiscal Sustainability
and Economic Diversification in Nigeria', reflected the common
commitment of the federal and state governments to work together in
planning the economic future of Nigeria and its people.

“Our ultimate purpose is to create jobs and growth and as key economic
managers in the context of Nigeria’s fiscal federalism, it is
essential that we work collaboratively and in tandem. I am optimistic
that the deliberations of this council will contribute to achieving
these noble objectives, which will lead us closer to lifting the 100
million people that the president has promised that we will lift out
of poverty in the next 10 years,” he said.

He added, “I propose three things for the consideration of this august
body as a means of increasing production and generating the revenues
at the state level. First, I would urge that states engage in careful
and well- thought out strategic planning in order to articulate and
implement priorities derived from strategic thinking and based on
comparative advantages.

“Second, there is great scope for boosting agricultural production if
States choose two to three high-value crops/products to specialize in.
Such specialization will enable economies of scale in the provision of
support across the entire value chain of prepared land, seeds,
fertilizers, and pesticides, storage, processing and transportation,
marketing and sales. This also implies organizing the agro-allied
value chain from farm to table.

“In a similar vein, states must take advantage of the entrepreneurial
spirit of Nigerians by empowering economic clusters and trade groups
through the provision of basic infrastructure and shared facilities.”

Osinbajo noted that the current move of the federal government to
provide broadband connectivity for all by 2023 "will assist the states
productive base but they cannot charge fees for laying of broadband
infrastructure, which is like strangling the goose that will lay the
golden eggs".

However, he stated, "The complaint of many small businesses is the
multiplicity of levies and charges by state and local government
agencies. States should, in fact, invest in agencies that can help
small businesses comply with regulations and standards and access
credit. When the businesses grow and employ more they create taxable
profit and taxable employees."

The vice president, therefore, counselled state governors: "The key
thing is to think out of the box and utilize the opportunities that
are open to the state. Some would have advantages that can be readily
used in the area of tourism, others would be contiguous to major
economic centres like Lagos and Abuja which offer markets as well as
cheaper and more affordable land for residential and industrial
purposes.

"Improving tax morale is also a very big part of the story as the
evidence shows that people do not feel obliged to pay taxes and they
justify this belief by asserting that they do not receive commensurate
services.

"It would also be necessary for States to improve tax administration
and widen the tax net by making it easier for people to pay tax both
in terms of easier processes and lower levels of taxation."
