[s] MetaPhysical: I want Ibos here in Nairaland to know that there is a very bad blood and tension between us and it's not because of anything historically that we have done to bring this about. We are both victims of mis-fitting in a political space. The disharmony results from political power struggles in a political landscape hewned together by a foreigner.
Nonetheless, it is worth appreciating that thension is very managable through outlets such as Nairaland. What ordinarily would have erupted into fracas on streets is dissipated as heat and venom on internet.
I do not believe a Yoruba would fail to act and rescue an Ibo in a distress situation. Neither do I think if a Yoruba was struggling for life an Ibo nearby will refuse to act. Above and beyond the tension that tear us apart our humanity recognizes and responds to the inner emotions to preserve and nourish life.
I love my Ibo brothers and sisters....but we no go see eye to eye from now until Nigeria is finished and everybody go hin way. [/s] |

[s] hisexcellency34: Elder statesman and Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, on Tuesday said the Igbos are free to carry out their threats of secession if denied the Presidency in 2023.
He admonished politicians from the South-Eastern part of the country who are nursing the idea of becoming President in 2023 to perish the thought.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Junaid said currently the South -East has not put forward a credible person who is qualified to lead Nigeria.
” I challenge Igbos to secede if they are denied Presidency in 2023. If they don’t secede, let them go to hell. They have tried secession before but they were defeated and failed and they lost over one million people”.
“If they want to secede again because of 2023 politics, they are more than welcome. You think anybody will beg them not to secede?” he asked . https://www.independent.ng/promote-peaceful-coexistence-ibb-tasks-ndigbo-others-2/ [/s] |

[s] akelicious: Igbo rapper Phyno spotted on a video with cool FM Lagos says I’m not an IPOB member nor Biafra but just an Igbo rapper.
To promote the album, the rapper who mainly delivers in his native Igbo tongue has embarked on a media tour which led him to Cool FM on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. While at the radio station, he had a chat with OAP, Do2tun.
During the chat, Do2tun asked Phyno how he felt about being pigeonholed as ‘just an Igbo rapper’ by asking, “Music is universal… But they try to box rappers like, ‘He’s a rapper from the East (of Nigeria). Do you like that?”
Phyno replied, “Trust me, I think it’s a box. I should be proud of where I’m from, right? But then again, making it feel like my music is just meant for people in that region is a box already.”
After Do2tun then said he know Phyno has been trying to change it, Phyno said, “Anything you put your energy in drains you. That shouldn’t be my problem, but then again, it’s a box generally, trust me. It’s not something I should be feeling good about. I’m a musician, I’m a rapper doing what I know how to do best, how I want to do it.
“But if you want to start judging from how people see you and put things in their heads, then you’d see this is already a box and it will be difficult to get out of it. So, just do your thing.”
Going further, Phyno explained why the ethnic diversity of Nigeria will forever influence how people respond to music they can understand. He then says, “Nobody says Tekno or Patoranking, the boy from the East, but they’re from the East. (They) probably (box me) because I make music in Igbo…
“But then again, Wiz does music in Yoruba whether you like it or not. Davido does music in Yoruba whether you like it or not. So why box only Olamide?”
When Do2tun was stunned, Phyno then said, “Exactly. It’s your native language. Speak it, be proud of it. Don’t box anybody for what they do. Do you really think I didn’t go to school or that I don’t have my certificate at the end of the day? This is how I know to do my music the best way I can.”
Before the chat ends, Phyno says that he thinks South African rapper should be responsible with his tweets. However, the Nigerian rapper says he never had a problem with AKA’s tweets in the wake of South Africa’s loss to Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Phyno’s 21-track project features prominent acts like Olamide, Runtown, Don Jazzy and so forth. On the album, Phyno excellently again rapped in his native Igbo tongue – even Davido joined him to speak Igbo on the track titled, ‘Ride For You.’

4. HOW MUCH VOTES DID MOGHALU get from his people in the last election?

6. WHY CANT THE PDP ZONE ITS TICKET TO THE SOUTH EAST WHO'VE WORKED SO HARD FOR THE PARTY FOR TWO DECADES??
7. Does the South East insisting on APC giving them the ticket for 2023 imply that THEY HAVE NO HOPE IN PDP WINNING THE ELECTION?
8. How do you expect a party you have spent every single day vilifying SINCE ITS CREATION TO THE PRESENT DAY, to Zone its party ticket to you when the South West has every reason to be rewarded for their loyalty to the party?
9. What steps are the leaders in the East taking to align themselves with APC even though their subjects and some leaders call it AN ISLAMIC PARTY? [/s] |

Politics › Re: Few Nigerians Holding Most Of Nigeria’s Wealth — Buhari by meccuno: 1:17pm On Oct 07, 2019 |
[s] OndoFirstBorn: President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that a significant proportion of Nigeria’s prosperity today is concentrated in the hands of a few people.
He said those few people are currently living primarily in four or five states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The President said this at the opening session of the 25th Nigerian Economic Summit held in Abuja.
He said while only five states had most of the wealthy people, the remaining 31 states have about 150 million people waiting for better opportunities to thrive.
The President said a prosperous society is one where the majority of its citizens have an acceptable standard of living and a decent quality of life.
He said his administration understood the need for Nigerians to have a better lifestyle adding that this was why measures have been put in place to reduce the level of unemployment and poverty.
He said, ‘‘Today, many mistake prosperity with wealth. They are not necessarily the same.
‘‘Experts and analysts explain economic trends by making references to indicators of wealth.
‘‘Wealth, however, in its simplistic form, is money or other assets. In recent years, global events have shown that when a society and its leaders are driven and motivated by these alone, the ultimate outcome is a divided state of severe inequalities. ‘‘But a prosperous society is one where majority of its citizens have an acceptable standard of living and a decent quality of life,’’ he said.
The President also used the occasion to affirm that in addressing population growth, security and corruption matters in developing economies, policies and programmes must focus on promoting inclusivity and collective prosperity.
‘‘Nigeria is a country with close to 200 million people living in 36 states and the FCT.
‘‘A significant proportion of Nigeria’s prosperity today is concentrated in the hands of a few people living primarily in four or five states and the FCT. Some of the most prosperous Nigerians are here in this room.
‘‘This leaves the remaining 31 States with close to 150 million people in a state of expectancy and hope for better opportunity to thrive. This, in the most basic form, drives the migratory and security trends we are seeing today both in Nigeria and across the region,” he added.

Politics › Re: Anthony Sani: Stop Using IPOB Threaten North Over 2023 Presidency by meccuno: 1:16pm On Oct 07, 2019 |
[s]2023 presidency: Don’t threaten North using IPOB, says ACF scribe
The Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Mr Anthony Sani, has warned that using the Indigenous People of Biafra to threaten the North over the 2023 presidency will not help the cause of the Igbo to produce the President when the time comes.
Referring to a statement credited to a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, in an interview with a national newspaper (not The PUNCH) where the elder statesman noted that Igbo people might embrace IPOB if denied the presidency in 2023, the ACF scribe argued that using IPOB to blackmail the region was unfair.
According to Sani, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threats and intimidation.
He said, “I have said democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons, and not by threats and intimidation that have no place in multiparty democracy. The presidency is secured in multiparty democracy through persuasions that seek to break barriers and build bridges. It is not obtained through affirmative action.
“I do not believe Ezeife could say what was reported. This is because he is too intelligent not to know that Nigeria practises multiparty democracy which allows political parties to present their candidates from any zone as part of their winning game plans.
“Ezeife also knows that there is no national consensus on rotation, power shift or zoning that is binding on political parties. That may explain why President Muhammadu Buhari contested with President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 despite the deliberate concession of the presidency to the South-West because of Chief (M.K.O.) Abiola. That is also why former President Goodluck Jonathan contested with Buhari in 2011 and 2015.
“If ex-President Jonathan had won in 2015, the South would have held sway for over 16 years in the nascent democracy. You may also note that in 2019, presidential candidates emerged from both the North and the South. What is more, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threat and intimidation.
“Worst of all, the feisty doctor is reported as using IPOB to blackmail the nation. This is most unfair, especially when regard is paid to the fact that the threats can convey an avoidable impression that some elders of the South-East still nurse some desire to split the country through IPOB.”
But in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Ezeife said the South-East would embrace persuasion to achieve its aspiration, adding that discussions were already ongoing with some groups in all parts of the country to achieve their aspiration.
“We are going to lobby every group; we would lobby from North to South, East to West. Some of us have started; one Revd. Obiora is foremost in this, he has started and he is in touch with some groups already. If we are not able to organise ourselves and 20 Igbo people come out to contest for the presidency, that will be our fault. But we want to ensure that we get in touch with the political players to organise themselves and ensure that they present themselves for Nigerians to see,” he said.
However, the President-General of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said all groups in the South-East would work to achieve the 2023 aspirations, adding that plans were underway to approach the two leading political parties as well.
“We will approach both major parties as platforms to actualise the Igbo 2023 presidency project. We would remind both the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party to first respect the gentleman agreement by zoning the party ticket to South, and then persuade the stakeholders in the South-South, South-West, to allow South-East to take a shot at the Presidency.[/s] |
