Slovakia are piling the pressure |
HNIC Another thing is the development of African football. When Westerhoff won the nations cup most of the other African teams were thrash. In 94 only 3 teams could represent Africa in the world cup unlike now when we have 6 teams in the world cup. Back then how many African players were playing in Europe? Now almost all African teams can field a foreign based starting XI. Football in Africa has really developed. There are no minnows any more. Westerhoff had 5 years to build that team that won the nations cup. Amodu did not have 5 years to build a team in a period where African football has become more competitive than Westerhoff's era. As for Onigbinde, na the same thing we dey talk. Our local coaches are good. |
. . .and they said Amodu played heart attack football. May his soul rest in peace |
He got to the finals, did he win? considering the gap in how much they earned and how much talent was in the team. Amodu got to the semis in his first attempt and were knocked out by a very strong Senegal team. Apart from Algeria, there was no team Westerhoff met in the '90 Nations cup that were as strong as Senegal. |
Argentina verdict: Displayed their undeniable attacking talent, creating numerous chances and often cutting through Nigeria like a knife through butter-on another day it way have been 6-0, but the Albiceleste were prolifigate in front of goal. Argentina also looked defensively frail at times and a better counter attacking capabilities than Nigeria could have punished Diego Maradona's side. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=264037&cc=3888&ver=global This a huge indictment on Lagerback's technical ability |
HNIC Westerhoff that won us our last nations cup had 5 years to build and prepare a team. None of our local coaches have been given that much time. |
This is the team list for Egypt '09. 1 Oladele Ajiboye 2 Daniel Adejo 3 Nurudeen Orelesi 4 Obiora Nwankwo 5 Raheem Lawal 6 Ibok Edet 7 King Osanga 8 Odion Ighalo 9 Kehinde Fatai 10 Rabiu Ibrahim 11 Danny Uchechi 12 Uche Okafor 13 Yakubu Alfa 14 Omatsone Aluko 15 Oluwasina Abe 16 Stanley Ohawuchi 17 Gbolahan Salami 18 Mohammed Shagari 19 Harmony Ikande 20 Lukman Haruna 21 Oladejo Olateru |
Nigeria Verdict: surprisingly, given the tactically astute nature of Lars Lagerback, Nigeria failed to demonstrate any real game plan and looked to run out of ideas when they got the ball in the final third. Playing a zonal marking system against a side of Argentina's quality was suicidal and a shaky defence was fortunate not to have conceded more than one goal, http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=264037&cc=3888&ver=global another confirmation that we approached the game without a game plan. |
Abdulazeez Ajagun from our u-17 team is also good |
Its only in Africa we celebrate foreign coaches. In Europe, no foreign coach has ever won the Euro except Otto Reheagal. No foreign coach has ever won the world cup. That's why the best Africa can boast of in a world cup is a quarter final place. Football power houses have realized the folly in hiring a foreign coach and have decided to groom theirs and they are excelling because they know solution must come from within. |
This will be the most one sided game in the first round of group matches. I expect Slovakia to annihilate New Zealand. Slovakia 6 New Zealand 0. |
Nigeria lost to Algeria 5-1 under Westerhoff! Nigerians want Amodu to perform like Westerhoff leaving out the fact that Westerhoff was given 5 years to build a team, direct access to the presidency, huge fat salary and was never owed a dime and he enjoyed a huge support from Nigerians. Amodu with the little he was given has tried. If Amodu had everything Westerhoff had he would have won the world cup or at least got us to the semis. |
i graduated 19, finished serving 20. As soon as i got a job, i moved out of my parents crib though my mom visits every week, sometimes twice a week cos she thinks i'm still a baby. |
Etuhu was our worst player against Argentina and he is the one making noise. Yakubu that was decent is quiet, perhaps thinking of how he will improve in our next game. without Etuhu in Fulham there's a Jonathan Greening. Etuhu started just 21 games and made 5 substitute appearances for Fulham in a season where they played close to 50 games in both the EPL and Europa League. So much for an indispensable player |
who dash Etuhu heart and soul of Fulham? what happened to Zamora, Dempsey, Zoltan Gera and Danny Murphy. If an Asian player were in Etuhu's shoes, he would have committed suicide. |
The Senegal team we lost to in Mali also defeated Sweeden that had Henrik Larsson, Fredric Ljunberg, Marcus Allback and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and was coached by Lars Lagerback. As for Etuhu, he is actully shameless. He was the worst player on the pitch and he still had the guts to talk. Apparently, the game plan was for him to leave the midfield open and leave everything to Enyeama. empty barrell! |
I pray we beat Greece and Korea and eventually win the cup. I pray Lagerbacks game plan wont be to tell other players to sleep and resort to Enyeama's heroics. |
That same Senegal side defeated France that had Henry, Trezeguet, Cisse and we only lost to them through Shorunmu's howler. The Senegal team we played in the 2000 nations cup didnt have Diouf and Metsu wasnt even the coach. Besides, the Senegal team of 2000 lost to us a.e.t. we struggled to beat them. We have never beaten Argentina? That was why we hired a foreign coach. To beat the likes of Argentina and make it to the semis and he has started to fail. We believed that Argentina would beat us with Amodu in charge, that was why we hired Lagerback and he has lost. Of what use is Lagerback if he cant do better than what we believe cant do? |
Di Natele has been brought on |
Gila almost did it |
Amodu was not given a stretch of 5 years to work. There was no continuity. The Senegaleese team we lost to in Mali 02 defeated world champions France and made it to the WC quarter finals and we lost after extra time no thanks to an Ike Shorunmu howler. We even got a penalty that would have made us level up. That Senegal team were clearly the best in Africa during that time. Amodu wouldnt have lost to an Argentinian team that were average and even advertised their vulnerability but our dolt of a coach couldnt take advantage |
The same Westerhof that was given 5 years to build a team. |
The same Westerhof that was given 5 years to build a team. |
Amodu won us two bronze medals in the nations cup despite the horrible working conditions he was subjected to, a bunch of average players and the worst FA in the world. No foreign coach could survive under these conditions. Berth Vogts gave us our worst nations cup outing since '82. Nigeria also achieved a ranking of 15 in the world under Amodu. Plus, we defeated France at home |
watch out for Lucas Barrios in the Paraguayan team. He was the third highest scorer in the bundesliga |
not so sure if Pirlo will play |
^^^ Hassan Shehata couldnt qualify Egypt for the world cup. Humberto Coelho couldnt qualify Tunisia for the world cup. Westerhof was given 4-5 years, enough time to build a team coupled with a huge salary and direct access to the presidency. None of our local coaches have enjoyed these. Amodu with all the vituperations and villifications and 0 support from the FA and fans, qualified us twice for the world cup. A feat Hassan Shehata couldnt achieve in 2006 and 2010. |
a foreign coach has qualified us for the world cup so has the local coach. Besides, no foreign coach has qualified us for two world cups. Our worst nations cup appearance since 1982 has come under a foreign coach. |
Amodu qualified us for 2 world cups. guess u kno that already. Amodu didnt enjoy the priveleges Westerhof had. |
If we give as much support and financial motivation to our local coaches as we do foreign coaches, they'll be world beaters. Westerhoff was given a huge pay package, direct access to the presidency and about 4-5 years to prepare the team and he did well. Which of our local coaches have been treated this way? Bonfre Jo won us the Olympic gold medal with a better talented team, a better pay package and better support. Siasia got us the silver medal despite not having all these Bonfre Jo had. Our local coaches have performed when given the chance. If we treat our local coaches the way we treat foreign coaches, they will perform exceptionally. |
dayokanu:what have England and Portugal achieved with a foreign coach? have they won any trophy? |
Cameroon are donning the ugliest jersey in SA. They are begining to get in the game |
