I was very critical of Siasia's decision to invite IK Uche but I'm glad he was able to justify his inclusion in the squad. The problem of cohesion is still present, we were mostly reliant on the individual genius of the players but with time, the team will cohere. Joel Obi, IMO, was our best player. Mikel was just a passenger, as usual. Anichebe also didn't do much. The good thing now is that Guinea are just one point ahead of us and we only need to beat them here in Nigeria to be assured of qualification. |
dayokanu:You can't rule out the fact that injury played no small part in Torres' no show at the world cup. He didn't start in the s/final, final and Spain's opening game against Switzerland. In the other games he started, there was none he played full 90 minutes. In every other international tournament he has played in, he has done very well. Mario Gomez, after finishing as BL top scorer, went to Euro 08 and didnt score a goal. If only Raul and Morientes had that kind of midfield behind themThe midfield they had was equally quality: Mendieta- He won UEFA best midfielder back to back when he led Valencia to back to back CL finals. Baraja- He was the midfield general of the Valencia side that played in back to back CL finals. Joaquin- Much better than Jesus Navas and back then, he was as good as David Silva. Valeron- He was the star of the Deportivo side that were always doing well in the CL. |
Good result, okay display. There's still a lack of cohesion in the side but this was a very promising display. |
khanye:I don't think so. He's been mostly linked with Inter and Chelsea. Whoever is willing to buy him must be ready to pay a huge amount of money because he comes with a lot of hype and he's just 19. AjanleKoko:Let's just keep our fingers crossed but he definitely stole the show in the Scotland game. Though Brazil won the game, collectively, the lack of cohesion is still glaring. They still play the same way they played under Dunga and that free flowing attacking football that over the years we've come to love Brazil for is just not there. Maybe with time, Menezes will work his magic but for now, they're at best, ordinary. There was a certain Henrique on the bench and I was wondering if it's our own Henrique on loan at Racing. Damiao Leandro and a certain Lucas that came on in the 2nd half are guys to watch out for in the future. |
We've been linked with a move for Bologna's Gatson Ramirez. http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2011/03/28/2414248/barcelona-keeping-tabs-on-bolognas-gaston-ramirez-report |

Barcelona B 2 vs Alcocorn 0. Jonathan Soriano and Nolito. I pray they both get promoted to the 1st team next season. |
Mascherano, Messi and Milito played all 90 minutes as Argentina played a 1-1 draw with USA. Batista tried out a new attacking combo of Lavezzi - Messi - Di Maria, and it looked very promising. Messi and Lavezzi combined to devastating effect and save for some top drawer saves from Howard, it would have been a USA whitewash. Lavezzi - Messi -Di Maria, looks like Argentina's best attacking front line in recent time. |
Which poor form? WC 06- 3 goals Euro 08- 2 goals Confed. Cup - Joint top scorer WC 10 - Due to injury, he performed poorly. Most of the goals he has scored have come from that same midfield. |
Abegi! They should forget about this guy, there's nothing extra he'll add to the Super Eagles anyway. |
Eto'o is the best thing ever to happen to African football. |
dayokanu:There's no shame in being outshone by Villa. Even Raul's record looks abysmal in comparison to Villa's. While Torres began as a supplementary striker to Raul and Morientes, Villa outrightly replaced Raul. There was hardly anytime Raul benched Villa. Villa came into the team when Raul had started to underperform and Morientes had fizzled out and almost instantly became Spain's lead frontman. Torres has 80+ caps for country, about 40 - 45% of those have been as sub. Torres' NT career began when Raul and Morientes were still in-form. In Euro 2004, he only started one game. |
Great result, I didn't see the game though. I would have loved to see Nnamdi Oduamadi because I was wondering why Siasia would call up a player that has made only one late substitutute appearance for AC Milan all season. The return leg is only academic now. |
Villa, at last, is Spain's all time leading scorer. Last night, he broke Raul's record of 44 goals and what a way to do it - scored a brace; his 45th and 46th goal. 46 goals in 71 appearances for Villa, far more superior in terms of average to Raul's 44 in 102 appearances. Xavi also made his 100th appearance for La Furia Roja. |
^^ Maxwell is currently injured so I'm guessing it's Adriano even if Maxwell recovers on time. |

It's funny how people still think this is all about the West trying to gain control of Libya's oil. Gadaffi is unleashing a genocide upon his own people. He would stop at nothing to remain in power. . . It's good thing that the No-fly zone has been passed, though, it could have come earlier. |
The Hitman - quite crappy |
Sad! I think what nailed him was that after knocking out the punk with a punch, he kicked him three times and fractured his jaw. He could have just walked away after the punch, that would have been self defense. I read a case about an Indian man that was sentenced to some years in jail for beating up an armed robber that attacked him in his home. The Indian man after successfully gagging the robber, clubbed his head with a golf club and inflicted some serious head injury on the robber. On good behaviour, he should get out on time and rebuild his career. |
Emeka Ezeugo's bombshell: Players used 'voodoo' under Westerhof By ROMANUS UGWU, Abuja Wednesday, March 23, 2011 Bolt from the blues should be the best way to describe the revelation by the Super Eagles' former ubiquitous player, Emeka Ezeugo, that most of his teammates used juju to either curry favour or keep their places during the days of Clemence Westerhof as coach of Eagles. [img]http://odili.net/news/source/2011/mar/23/sun/ema20-23[1].gif[/img] Emeka http://odili.net/news/source/2011/mar/23/529.html Ezeugo, who made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with the Daily Sunsports in Abuja recently, insisted that it was then a common sight to spot fetish objects inside the rooms of players, even as he dismissed the potency of the practice in the game of football. His revelation may not, however, come as a surprise to many that have read the confessions of veteran stakeholders and to those that have followed the unending debate on the potency of prayers and fetish practice in attaining successes in the game. It has become a tradition that just before every game, the Super Eagles got together on the pitch and say a prayer. They do the same thing before entering the changing room at the end of the first half and another before the beginning of the second half. When, however, the game ended in disappointment, they won't bother to say another prayer. The meaning is that prayer and fetishism have become nothing but superstition. Speaking on the efficacy of voodoo practice, while sharing his experience in the national team, Ezeugo, said: “There are people who believe in it. There is juju in football. When I came to the national team in 1987, there was juju everywhere. Those days, players made maximum use of it. If you go into their rooms, you will see them hanging the stuff,” he revealed. The Nigerian former international was wittier when he disclosed how he psychologically warded off any spiritual attack from his teammates with his India background, quipping that all of them thought he had fortified himself with Indian charms. “But I did not care about their fetish lifestyle or did I allow it to scare me. I believe in my God who is my only juju. I did not fear anybody and luckily, for me, I came from India. They all thought that I had fortified myself with the finest juju. It really helped me to walk into any of them and even dine with them without any fears. It was even more surprising to them that I started playing the first time I joined the national team.” Taking the debate further, Eagles' former strongman, Taribo West, had confessed that he spent the greater part of his fortune servicing marabouts to make himself invincible to strikers both at the national team and clubsides. He had told the media then: “I spent up to N5, 000,000 on juju and in Senegal, I spent money every month to make rituals. This is aside from what you give to the ritualists directly, and for their personal use. I went to Guinea and did some. I did some in Nigeria. The type of juju I was doing was, basically, to make me remain a solid rock in the defence.” A self-appointed national team pastor had once revealed how Supporters Club led by Dr. Rafiu Ladipo cost the Super Eagles trophy in the finals of the Mali 2002 African Nations Cup by disobeying his divine directives. The pastor, who spoke on condition of anonymity had lamented that the upporters club in fragrant disobedient to his directives to remain steadfast with prayers ahead of the crucial match, opted to sacrifice a ram close to the team's camp a few minutes to the kickoff, resulting in the Eagles finishing with the tournament bronze.
=N=5m on juju? wtf? On top of the juju, he could hardly hold down a starting place in Inter which is the biggest club he played for and ultimately, was shipped out. |
khanye:Thiago will be promoted to the first team next season and there's still Afellay. Good player nonetheless but we won't be needing him. Besides, the tomfoolery called 'Operation Fabregas must return to the Nou Camp' has been rested. I'm pretty sure we won't be signing him, at least, not this summer. |
