He resumed light training before the Arsenal game but then suffered another knock and has been out since then. I don't think what he suffered was major and just might be back before Shaktar. RuuDie: Haba. . . . you guys still want Carceres back - make una sell am to us nah Oya, make una bring £30m You know Man City signed Joleon Lescott for £23m(what a waste!) and Chelsea signed David Luiz for 24 or £25m . Centre-backs don cost for market and Caceres ticks all the boxes as far as a decent defender is concerned, plus he's only 22. Oya, make una go bring money |

Tunde Bakare, na you biko What has he done to better the lot of the common man? He's one of Nigeria's foremost entrepreneurs; he's created thousands of jobs. PapaBrowne: We don't want probes, we want power!! Its only people that have no idea how to fix a problem that would see the solution in a probe!!
Yar Adua started a probe of the power sector and we ended up wasting years! This man is too clueless. This answer was in response to the question 'How would you solve the lingering power problem". Probing the past can never be a solution to a today's nagging problem. Please we want power and Jonathan has the best solution for power amongst all the candidates and that is why I am voting for him. Privatize the damn thing and see us get more than the power we need in a very short time. That is exactly what happened in the telecoms sector!!! From 400,000 lines to 85 million lines in less than 10 years!! That's the miracle that would solve the power problem!! You don't want probe? $16bn gone down the drain and no one should be brought to book? Yaradua failed as regards the power sector probe, so what? Are you implicitly saying that no one should bother probing the failure in the power sector because Yaradua couldn't do it? Was probing the failure in the power sector all the reccomendations Buhari gave? Didn't he say something about making sure that our power stations operate at an optimum level? I can see you're being carried away by GEJ's ambiguous and cockeyed plan for power, carry on. |

Do you have the remotest of an idea of what 4,000MW is? Nigeria, as we speak, runs on less than 4,000MW Johanessburg runs on about 6,000MW and yet you think 4,000MW can't power an "industrial park" in China? This is a criminal gaffe. @topic: We'll keep going round in circles if we don't have an articulated plan for power generation. All the countries enjoying uninterrupted power supply didn't just wake up one morning and say they'll have power at a certain time. They actually worked towards it. Ghana, for instance, literally, mapped out plans on how they'll achieve uninterrupted power supply from as far back as the mid 50's, before they attained independence. Everything they're enjoying today as regards power was contained in a blueprint. USSR, back in the days of Lenin equally designed a blueprint for steady power supply in 1920 and the project was later completed in 1931. The problem with ours is that it's just all talk, there's no spelt out plan on how the power problem will be solved. |

Stealthy: Since we've been talking about transfers today, here are my thoughts on what we should do in the summer:
No big signings. our squad is quite good as it is, with minimal additions. I'll like us to promote a few youth team players, but also sign 1 or 2 experienced squad players for depth (same way we signed Albertini, Davids & Henrik Larsson in the past). We don't want to depend on too many youth players (like Arsenal, lol!).
Players Out: Milito Hleb Ibra Bojan (loan within Spain) Jeffren (loan within Spain) Victor Sanchez (renew loan) Henrique (renew loan??)
Players In: Caceres (from loan) Botia (buy-back) Fontas (promoted) Thiago (promoted) Nolito (promoted) Soriano (promoted) Keirrison (from loan) Dani Guiza (purchase) A 31yrs+ old defender (I don't know who yet)
So our squad will look something like this (in pecking order for each position):
Goalkeepers: Valdes, Pinto
RB: Alves, Adriano.
CB: Puyol, Pique, Caceres, Botia, Fontas, 31yrs defender. (Of course, Abidal can also cover)
LB: Abidal, Maxwell. (Adriano also)
DMF: Busquests, Mascherano.
AMF: Xavi, Iniesta, Afellay, Keita, Thiago.
Attackers: Messi, Villa, Pedro, Nolito, Guiza, Keirrison, Soriano
This gives a squad of 26 players, which is 7 more than we have this season. We also have at least 2 players for each position, with a mix of youth and experience.
With Puyol & Abidal not likely to play so many matches, the old defender will provide a calm head to guide our other defenders who are all young (including Pique). He will also be someone who won't mind being on the bench & will retire in a couple of years (with Puyol, Abidal), so will not take the place of our young defenders for long.
The logic is similar for having Guiza in attack. Keirrison is young, but someone like Guiza (who has won pichichi in la Liga) can come in if Villa is injured or we need to change strategy in difficult matches.
Summer 2012: Abidal will most likely retire & Muniesa can take his place in the 1st team.
JDS, Batra, Vazquez, Romeu, Montoya should also be ready to make the step up by then, as players like Puyol, Xavi, Villa, Keita start to play fewer matches.
Players like Jeffren, Sanchez & Bojan should have learnt on loan and also ready to stake their place in the 1st team.
All in all, I don't expect this team to make any big money moves in the next couple of years (unless we sell key 1st team players). Our B team is bursting with talent and even the Jevenil A has a number of interesting players.
NO TO FABREGAS!!!
If he really wants to come, he should force his way & either buy out his contract or beg Mr Whinger to sell him for a price Barcelona considers reasonable. Xavi will still play at the top level for a couple of years and Thiago is waiting in the wings with JDS. Yes, Fab is better than these 2, but $65 is ridiculous for a team that is already so good to spend on a player who will do little to improve this team. It would be great if we could sign Guiza. He ticks all the boxes. He's not so high profile at the moment and with Pep ever reluctant to rotate the squad, he won't complain when he isn't get alot of minutes. Also, he's a big man and would bring the much needed physical presence to our attack. He has La Liga experience; was pichichi winner when he was at Mallorca and he's also a La Masia product. I think he's just the kind of person we need up front. He's the kind of player we can bring in from the bench and can change the course of a match. I hope Pep is thinking in this line. With Caceres and Botia likely to return, I don't think we need any defensive reinforcements. |

AjanleKoko: ^^ I was thinking maybe we could hang on with CDV for a year or two. Puyi is almost 33 as well. Good news about Botia anyways. We should get in some young chaps to work with Pique, and hopefully we can find a way to keep Alves. We still have Maxwell and Adriano as covers for the leftback position. I don't think Pep will be looking to strengthen that area except one moves. I think Alves will be staying. They say he's very close to signing, by the end of the week, probably. He's not gonna leave, except he wants to live with the reputation of being the biggest mercenary in the history of football for the rest of his life. holydante: Guys,
The below is from Total Barca, am kinda wondering, with all the options at our beck and call, is this the best we can get? We have never been know to make shrewd buys under Pep. Read on plss,
FC Barcelona’s MVP strikeforce has been amazing this season, racking up even more goals than in previous years. But our attack is one serious injury away from crisis: Bojan has been in indifferent form [and that's being generous], Jeffren has been struck down with chronic injuries, and Affelay is as yet unproven.
The hunt for more depth in attack has taken Barcelona scouts to the farthest reaches of the football world, but if reports in Sport this week are to be believed, the solution may very well rest in our own backyard: Villarreal.
Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his affection for Villarreal strikers Giuseppe Rossi and Nilmar. But the mutual flirting has recently reached beyond simple rumors. Under the headline “Rossi is crazy with desire to wear the Barcelona colors,” Sport quoted Rossi’s agent as saying that “No one could resist the lure of playing in Barcelona.”
This kind of media flirtation is nothing new in the football world, but the idea does begin to incite the imagination when you consider the possibilities. For his part, Rossi has scored 26 goals this season in all competitions, with 15 of them coming in Liga matches. Both attackers play in a system not unlike Guardiola’s, and while neither player would be inexpensive, they would hardly command the transfer fee, or wages, of a Torres or a Tevez.
Unfortunately, we’ll all get to see the Villarreal strikeforce in action next week, as they will be our next Liga opponents. In the meantime: what do you think?
Read more: http://www.totalbarca.com/2011/news/transfer-madness-will-poaching-villarreals-attack-solve-our-striker-crisis/#ixzz1HL0hc75R I don't think we need such marquee signings. Pep hardly ever rotates and signing Rossi or Nilmar would mean they'll be sitting on the bench and making brief appearances and we'll hardly get value for the cash we splashed on either of them that way. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: FC Barcelona Fan Thread: "Més Que Un Club" by medjai(m): 5:46pm On Mar 22, 2011 |
AjanleKoko: ^^ Yellow Submarine won't sell their strike force. Not likely. I wonder why Pep isn't looking at defensive options. With Abidal's career more or less over, and Alves threatening to leave, I am wondering why he's not going after guys like Boateng, or even Van Der Wiel. We need options at left-back, right-back, and center-back. Adriano has been decent this season I must say, but he won't do for a Barca, unless we want to stop competing at this level. If Pep wants to buy anything from Villareal, he should buy Cap De Villa, period. Also, Caceres must be recalled from Sevilla, he looked very good this season.
We've looked fragile at the back many times this season. It's always an anticlimax for me in games; we produce mind-boggling attacking displays, and suddenly look out of sorts, scrambling to defend, and eventually concede an amazingly soft goal. It's just embarrassing. Pep can't sign Capdevilla, he's 33. He has very few years left in him. As regards defensive options, we've been linked with a move for Alberto Botia. He's a La Masia product and only just joined Sporting at the beginning of the season but he's been outstanding so far this season and his contract with Sporting has a buy back clause which means we can easily snap him up. Besides, Caceres, who has very much improved will be coming back. Caceres can also play at rightback like he did against us at Sevilla and Fontas will likely be promoted to the first team on a permanent basis next season. Defensively, I think we are covered. |

dayokanu: Crespo and Sheva came to Chelsea at the twilight of their careers
Benzema was highets goal scorer in french league, Gomez was highest goal scorer in the Bl while playing for Stuttgart Tell us what Torres has ever achieved individually both at club and NT level Individual awards? He was a member of 09 FIF PRO XI. He was nominated for EPL Player of the Year and PFA Player of the Year awards in his first season in the EPL. He was nominated for WPOTY in '08 and finished behind Ronaldo and Messi. Sheva and Crespo still had some good years in them when they joined Chelsea. Why would Chelsea break the British transfer record for a player in his twilight, does that make any sense? Crespo went to Milan and still performed despite being a flop at Chelsea. He scored 6 goals en route Milan reaching the CL final. Sheva scored 8 goals in 12 in his 2nd season at Chelsea and he was mostly coming in from the bench. He clearly still had goals in him. Even in his present club, Dynamo Kyiv, he's still scoring. He's one of the highest goal scorers in the Europa League. Clearly, the problem is Chelsea. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Drogba Vs Torres. Who's The Best? by medjai(m): 10:55pm On Mar 21, 2011 |
dayokanu: Shevchenko was Highest goal scorer in Serie A 2000 and 2004 and CL 1999 and 2006
Crespo was Serie A top scorer in 2000-2001
These cant be in the same league with Failure Torres But they both didn't make it at Chelsea and that speaks volumes about the way Chelsea play. Crespo left Chelsea and went on loan to Milan; he led them to CL final in '05 and was 2nd or 3rd highest goalscorer in the CL that season. He returned to Chelsea and still couldn't cut it. Chelsea is a team that defies footballing logic. Besides, Torres hasn't failed yet. You know how long it took the likes of Benzema, Berbatov, Gomez, to adapt to their current clubs. The price tag is another factor. Zidane suffered the same problem when he joined Real then for a world record fee. The pressure to justify the price tag can easily put pressure on a player. |

Well, Torres won't be the first striker to not make it at Chelsea. There was Kezman, Crespo, Shevchenko, Di Santo; they all couldn't make it at Chelsea. Surely, someone has to unearth that calabash buried somewhere by Drogba around the t-junction that leads to Stamford Bridge.
Truth is, he has not been getting supplies. The supplies have been very minimal. I even think there's a gang up against him. Malouda fired at the nearpost when he should have squared for Torres who was free in the box in the game against City. Besides, Chelsea is a very direct team built around physical and 'mechanical' players. It's not the kind of team where you'll move into space and expect to be picked out by a teammate all the time. You have to do alot of backtracking, running and harrying to survive at Chelsea and Torres isn't used to all that. He has to adapt to the team and once he does, there's no stopping him. |

The problem with Torres is that he's not getting the desired service. I can count the number of times he was feed the ball in today's game. He had to track back to go get the ball most times and that's just not his style. In Liverpool, he had a Kuyt that could pick out his runs when he moves into space and a Gerrard that could find him from 50mtrs. He showed some promises in today's game. The brilliant flick to Lampard and some brilliant runs. I believe he'll justify his price tag very soon. |
