We should have gotten more goals. Villa was absolutely not in it, I think he's fatigued. He's not been impressive in the last few games.
Villa spurned a number of chances but his flick to set up Xavi after Iniesta's dribbling run for the second goal was just priceless.

Sending off RvP changed the dynamics of the game, whatever happened to 'verbal' caution? undecided
For those clinging onto shots-on&off target, we don't need it. .it's the goals that matter.
Starting Rozzy ahead of Arshavin was suicidal.

We should NOT have started Fabregas. It was the same story last season at Nou Camp, kid was overcome by home-coming emotions. .he just couldn't click sad & the backheel pass (in your own half) was pretty silly angry
If RvP get's carded for NOT hearing the ref's whistle (No thanks to the 96,000 fans). . why wasn't Messi carded for handling the ball(deliberately) in the box? undecided

Barca resort to eye-sore tactics to get goals(Same shitt they tried with Inter). . Busquets goes down easily in the box with minimal contact (noticed the crowd calling for the ref's head,Xavi/Iniesta pointing to the penalty spot?smh)

A chance to 'probably' win the game and B52's first touch lets him down AGAIN! (Woulda loved Arshavin/Chamakh in that position at that point) angry angry

Barca kept the ball well, then got some help from the ref.

Kudos to them

I'll say it again, 11 vs 11. . Barca would NOT have won this tie.

Onto the next one

Gunners 1900 cool
verbal caution? How many times do you want him to be verbally cautioned? He had been booked for his foul on Alves, he had been verbally cautioned several other times, one was for his bust up with Abidal. He didn't hear the whistle? Is he deaf? At the World Cup where thousands of fans were blowing the vuvuzela, players still heard referee's call.
The ref on several occasions tried to keep Arsenal in the game. Diaby's foul on Messi in the box, Koscielny let off the hook when he should have been sent off in the first half, etc, all come to mind. Truth is, Arsenal benefitted the most from the ref's leniency.
van Persie's offence, wasn't that a Yellow card offence? The ref chose not to be lenient after being too lenient and y'all saying crap.
PhysicsMHD Ok. A hero some some is a villain to others and my point stands that no 'black' African leader has reached out and stressed the importance of Pan-Africanism as he did. Him wanting to spread Islam and supporting terrorism is not exactly ideal to me but he did. He even trained some of Africa's notorious war-lords or what have you, on his soil. Again his methods were not always right but the concept was. My opinion and apparently it is shared with many others. You and Savanna disagree and that is fine; btw wikipedia is not always reliable  wink.
Please, we should be careful not to confuse his support for rebellious causes within Africa as Pan Africanism. Financially backing Omar Bashir's genocide in Sudan or supporting Charles Taylor's war upon his fellow Liberians isn't Pan Africanism. You need to see the wrath he unleashes on the Berbers(the Black Arabs) in Libya. This man is an insane dog that deludes himself as "king of kings".
What sort of Pan Africanist will declare war upon his own people? "We will destroy all these elements of sedition. . . " "rivers of blood would flow. . ." "thousands would die. . ." What kind of leader will make these statements?
Even before the current unrest, Libya had always been divided against itself. Benghazi had always been a volatile region. It's been one ethnic clash after the other.
Gadaffi is not a leader, let alone a Pan Africanist.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Video: Van Persie's Red Card. Was It Deserved? by medjai(m): 11:01am On Mar 09, 2011
Did van Persie deserve the Yellow card? Hell yeah, absolutely. He continued play after the ref had blown for offside. That's a yellow card offence and he got the appropriate sanction.

Could the referee have been a little lenient? Well, maybe. But why put yourself in a situation where your survival will depend on a ref's leniency?

van Persie was already cautioned for his shove on Alves. He had been warned severally after other challenges. What else did you want the ref to do? The ref chose not to be lenient and go by the rules, any problem with that?

Hail, cules.
Great performance by the boys. Not a CL-winning performance, they just did enough to win.

I do feel for Arsenal, but they didn't act like people who wanted to win. I think they came for a draw. They had a weird selection. Thanks to Busi, they almost got it. In fact, when I saw Busi's own goal, I thought we were out. Talk about tough luck!

RVP red card? Definitely a soft red card, he must have irked the ref for his antics in the first half. I felt he didn't need to go off for what he did. But I got these stats from ESPN Soccernet, who are not usually our friends:

1st Half:
                              Barcelona    Arsenal
Shots on goal                8              0
Possession                   75%         25%

2nd Half:
                              Barcelona    Arsenal
Shots on goal                12              0
Possession                   76%         24%

RVP bagged a 'whopping' 1% of possession, alongside Fabregas, whose error led to the first goal.
So the stats kind of tell the story. RVP was not really in the game anyway, red card or not. Apart from Nasri who tried to create in some instances, but was quickly closed down by Busi or Alves, he actually contributed nothing to the game tactically. Arsene made an error playing him.
These stats are so frightening. 0 shots on and off target. Arsenal should just thank their stars that Sczesny got injured. That was pure divine intervention because I don't think he would have done as much as Almunia.

@Aja

thanks. noted!
Was there anything auspicious that RvP provided that would make us say that his absence contributed to your defeat? He had no shot on target. Heck! no shot off target. What would he have done that he hadn't done huh Abeg, press CTRL+S on that BS!, you dysmorphic ape. grin

Geez, what a game, one thing I know for sure, we are sloppy in front of the goal, wave after wave of attack, what were the misses all about?

Like Y☺u pointed out, a clinical side will surely trouble us, we cant play like this @ the Mestella and Bernabeu, but hey, who cares this night, we won convincingly, wish all Y☺u guys are around me, let's just pop biggies together.

Meanwhile the excuses are pouring in, a fanatic just posted on fb that AW had a romp with Platini's wife back in college and so Platini has been eeffing Wengay up!! Imagine the cheeky looser.

@Stealthy

congrats on your win . . .though dodgy, if I were handed such greek gift I would gladly have it too . . .

to the game :

Its obvious that the officiating was rubbish! really rubbish he didnt make for a good view at that stage considering this is no SHAKTAR vs LYON . .FFS its BARCA vs ARSENAL . . .when would u guys win us 11 vs 11 ?

I am not cluctching at straws here, but isnt it obvious that u could easily have had it tougher with RVP being a constant threat upfront? and with FAB4, it was always going to be difficult for us to win as I have always said, he is no CAPATIN FANTASTIQUE and he's shown he CANT be counted on when push comes to shove just like Henry froze when he had glorious chances against Valdez . . .well, I dont feel bad, u can have him and even him keep eternally on the bench, as I doubt he would even displace Biscuit in your team . . .rubbish and condiments!  angry

On the balance of play, I accept u guys outplayed us, but all that could easily have changed if we had just mustered enuff mental strenght when it mattered most to score a 2nd and voila! BARCA WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT!

It didnt happen and that brings me to what I had said all along that we would equalize if we could have all of Song, Nasri and RVP for 135 minutes of the 2 games, what happened ? the most vital player - SONG was unavoidably absent and tha afforded Messi the kind of roaming and roving space he had to operate, and yes he did the damage . . . I am BITTER!!!

Anyways, congrats u cules . . .twas nice riling y'all up  cool
I always knew you were an ewe. What on earth did van Pussy do while he was on huh 0 shot on target shocked shocked even Almeria wey chop Manita+3 did better. It's Song, right?Song ko, orin ni. Arsenal lost this game at the Emirates but hannie wouldn't see that. Presbyopia, I guess grin grin

Rubbish team blaming the ref. Don't kick the ball after the ref has whistled especially when the game is in your favour. That is the rule if you see it as soft that your own cup of coffee. Sagna received yellow too for such offence.

I did not see you people blame UEFA and ref when Messi's goal was disallowed 3 weeks ago, i did not see you guys blame the ref when ref waived away messi pen, i did not see you guys blame the ref when he gave a pen but no yellow to make it two for Kos.

The bottom line is you can't be on defensive mode for 90 minutes against a team like barca never!!!!!!.

As usual gnashing of teeth continues.

The person calling for EPL to pull out of UEFA, you should have called for FIFA/UEFA ban on Arsenal for disgracing EPL with this kinda display tonite
U dey mind dem? It's only Arsenal fans that will accuse a referee of bias for giving a Yellow card for a Yellow card offence. What? the ref shoulda been lenient? van Persie was already on a Yellow, he was treading on thin nice, his behaviour for the remainder of the game should have been immaculate. He had already been cautioned and warned severally, what else should the ref had done. Rules are rules. That was a Yellow card offence and he got the appropriate sanction.
Frederic Piquone was sent off against Everton for taking off his shirt when jubilating after scoring. He was already on a Yellow and got a second Yellow card for taking off his shirt. Is it cast in stone that a ref should be lenient? The only thing cast in stone are the rules. A ref can decide to turn the cheek for an offence but when he doesn't we shouldn't castigate him.

Besides, what did you do with van Persie on the pitch?

@stealthy: wow! Spot on prediction cheesy

The way we responded after Busi's own goal, I just have to take back my words as regards the team's mental strength. That was supreme confidence.
Masch had an excellent game. Clever passes all through and the way he tracked back to deny Bendtner, pure awesomeness. This arguably is his best game since we got him.
Adriano did well too but his final ball, more often, let him down.

Yeah, it's not a big deal. If Mourinho weren't winning trophies, we won't be talking about this record. My point is, you are remembered for winning trophies, everything else you achieve alongside that are by the way.

Birmingham had also gone 10 months unbeaten at home before their loss to Arsenal but it's not being celebrated because nothing came out of it.
Shakthar Donetsk have not lost a home game in Europe since October 2008 and Aris Saloniki have remained unbeaten at home in Europe for the past 41 years. All these things only matter when they're accompanied with trophies.
