It's not a scam. The site is genuine. There was a Newspaper publication announcing the extension of the closing date to 22nd November. But why would the government extort N1000 from poor unemployed Nigerians. This is same thing that happened with Immigration under Jonathan. Buhari is repeating the same thing
Phones / Where Should I Buy My Phones From And Why? Godfrey Anwo-telecom Expert And Socia by meetanwo(m): 10:25am On Oct 24, 2018
Considering this age of digitalization and the seemingly increasing wave of crime in Nigeria, it is proper as a telecom expert to caution you on where and what nature of phone you purchase for personal or official use. Today, a lot of people have been implicated in one criminal case or the other because of purchasing phones from the wrong source; some of such cases have led to life imprisonments. The reason for this is simple. Phones have what is called the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) which is unique for all phones; it is with this identity that the phones can be tracked. Unfortunately, today many people are using phones bought from sources that could implicate them in the near future, sources from where old phones are re-packaged and sold to them as new, the re-packaging however does not change the IMEI of such phones and this portends danger to the buyer. Before I tell you where to purchase your phones from, let me quickly point out places to avoid as much as possible in purchasing your phones:-
1. Roadside Vendors: These days, we see a lot of people ‘hawking’ phones as though phones have become sachet water. Phones especially smart phones are too sensitive an item to be purchased by the roadside. This is because of a number of reasons; they could be faulty but because of the hurry in the purchase, such faults may not be discovered at the point of purchase, they may be stolen phones, they may be fake or re-packaged phones sold to you as original or new. Phones shouldn’t be bought in a hurry no matter the urgency because the consequence will hurriedly land you into a big trouble you may not be able to handle.
2. Friends or Relatives: These days, in a bid to get “heavy phones” for meager amount, people go for second-hand phones from friends or relatives. This too is not advisable except of course if you are very sure of the authenticity of the source from where such phones were purchased. Just two days ago, a case involving the purchase of phone from a friend landed someone in police custody. A particular phone was tracked as having been stolen from a robbery scene whereas the buyer was claiming he bought the said phone from a friend, when the two persons were asked to bring the casings of their phones, the person who bought his from a friend was found to have presented a wrong casing. Trust the Nigerian Police, he’s cooling off at the station awaiting his arraignment in court.
3. Phone Villages: These days we have phone villages in place of what used to be called computer villages. These are usually clusters of shops all selling phones and their accessories. Shockingly, these too are wrong places to purchase your phones. In fact, statistics has shown that 80% of the phones stolen within a town are sold at these phone villages. Within these phones villages, there are “Computer Engineers” who are skilled in re-packaging these stolen phones and reselling them as new ones. Thus, a lot of phones sold in such spots have one issue or the other mostly security-related.
Having pointed out where not to buy your phones from, let me quickly tell you where is best and safest to buy your phone from:-
1. Telecom Service Providers: Most of the telecom service providers are into partnership with mobile phone companies. I am aware that Globacom is into such partnership with Samsung, Techno, Infinix, Huawei and Bontel; MTN, 9Mobile and Airtel are into such partnerships too in a bid to woo phone buyers into using their network on such phones. This is about the safest point to pick your phone from as phones bought here come directly from the phone factory as there are some settings customized for these telecom companies such as using a particular network gives you a particular amount of data free for a certain period of time. And their mode of sales is system controlled, making it difficult for anything fake to be sold to you in such outlets. So the next time you want to pick up a new phone, visit a Gloworld, MTN Connect, Airtel Express or 9Mobile Experience Center.
2. Mobile Phone Company Show Rooms: Most mobile companies have their show rooms located in big cities within the country. Those of you who live in places like Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Portharcourt, Calabar to mention but a few have this advantage. The advantage of buying from this kind of point is that most of them provide post-purchase services and the warranty that comes with these phones can be easily enjoyed if such phones are gotten from these points. Finally you can be sure nobody will drag your name into the mud in anyway.
3. Accredited Trade Partners of Mobile Phone Companies: A lot of the shops you see around being branded as though they were run by mobile phone companies are not really so but done in partnership with the mobile phone companies. Unfortunately, there are self acclaimed partners all over the place deceiving unsuspecting members of public. Don’t just jump into any shop and pick up a Samsung phone because the shop was branded Samsung. Some of the accredited Mobile Phone Partners are Slot Limited Nigeria, 3C Hub, Micro Station, PTV Phones, Yudala, Pointek, Affordable Phones, Mizbeach Limited, Best Mobile Stores, Parktel International and a host of others.
My problem with Nigerians is that they don’t learn from other people’s experience, they wait until the experiences of others befall them, don’t be a victim! In summary, be sure of the source of the phone you are buying else it will land you in the muddy waters.

Education / Re: 2018 PTDF Scholarship China/France/Germany: Shortlisted Applicants by meetanwo(m): 4:11pm On May 23, 2018
Please kindly carry some of us along. Do you mean 47 applicants have been so far contacted in respect of the PTDF Scholarship for Germany and China? I don't get it, kindly elaborate please

Time2reign:
My Thought:

I don't think the number chosen corresponds with picking from each state. If not, the selection would have been an even number indicating that an equal figure or also have been chosen.

Scenario 1: Assuming all 47 were masters
47 candidates for China Scholarship would arouse the question of how many were chosen per state. 47 means at least only one person from each state was at least selected, remaining 11 selection that might have been distributed across other oil producing state. making the oil producing state produce at least 2. so it means that should the selection be on a merit state level, at least 1 person was chosen per state and a little more in the range 2-3 were chosen from an oil producing state.

Scenario 2: Assuming all 47 were a mix of PHD and masters
This would make you now ask the question: How many masters were chosen per state?.... if a candidate was at least chosen per state for masters, then the 11 PHD candidates remaining wont cut across the 36 states in Nigeria. and if it is the other way round, It means that 11 candidates for masters won't cut across all the states in Nigeria.

My point is:

1. The selection process is strictly known to the Selecting committee of PTDF
2. Don't think/be so sure you have all it takes to selected. Some more persons have a very higher and better qualification as you do.
3. I don't know if the numbers for this year is going to be that much
4. Should you be selected, Go and say thank you to the Almighty
5. If equal quota are to be given to all the 36 states (excluding the oil producing states), the number yet released now still don't add up to equal selection from each states taking China for example.... though there is still France and UK to make up for the numbers.
6. Looking at the selected numbers for Germany and China respectively, It means more state might have a particular country more than another.... cos the China doesn't tally with equal selection from each state, since the mail was to both masters and PHD and they are just 47. so how many out of the 47 were masters and PHD? and should the number be known, i bet it wont give an equal number for each state or better still, more state would have a shorter number of a category to another.
7. The respective countries in particular wont take only Nigerians, they would request for some numbers.... so that might align with the somewhat low numbers seen for now.

In Summary

Fellow aspiring colleagues, this selection is solely in Gods hand. forget your so called qualification and how good you are cos you might not know how better the next guy beside you is. Be open-minded and believe God for the best. Hoping you are one of those that would be selected for France and UK.

Please Note: This is just my thought i decided to share.

God bless us all and favor us

You're not totally right. During the G/F/C interview, my interviewers at Abuja center weren't northerners but they were harsh on me. In fact I had exatly this kind of your experience. When it seems the other man was bent on rubbishing me, I resorted to fierce argument with him until the Prof intervened. Yesterday in Bauchi, my interviewers were both Muslims but calm and listening. They allowed me prove I deserved the scholarship, at the end they were happy with my performance. So your conclusions are not correct. Some individuals could just be difficult and this is not specific to a particular ethnicity. God bless Nigeria

Bro, If that was all you were asked ,then u are a super lucky person .....

MY OWN CASE WAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS WITHIN THE SAME UI. (UI used 3 panels today)

From my own personal experience , the interview has no standard pathern .....you could be asked anything .......

below are my experience today at UI, IBADAN (Msc) .....

1. after i introduced myself .....immediately they learnt i was from the EAST ( IGBO ORIGIN) , they waited for like 2 mins and started murmoring to each other in Hausa language ....(All of the 5 persons that made up the panel were Hausas).

2. i was not asked a single question from my SOP ....they didnt even open it ....nor cared about it.

3. All the questions i was asked were deep, tough and technical (Civil engineering questions ) my 1st degree course .
( one of them is a Prof of Civil Engineering ) ....NOTE : THIS IS OUTSIDE THE CONTEXT OF THE INTERVIEW....recall that from the invitation letter, we were only told to make a presentation of our Statement of Purpose .......This is very unfair to me .

4. i was asked up to 10 questions ......and my interview lasted up to 25min . ( while others were asked barely 2 questions from their SOP ...with a max interview duration of 4min)

5. I was asked several questions about my projecf work .....and when i explained the title and summary to them......they nullified it ...simply because it was not an oil and gas related project topic .....despite how best i tried to convince them ...that it was just an undergraduate project ..and must not be oil and gas related.

6. i was even given some tough and complex calculations to do (structural analysis of indeterminate structures.....and i was not even allowed to solve , i was told to produce the answer without solving ......which was practically impossible ......i told them the steps to solve it ....they nullified it...insisting i must produce the answer.

7. And one of them kept shouting "you dont even have any publication ".......( i didnt know when it became a compulsory for an undergraduate to have research publications)

8. And two others kept asking "what state are you from ".......

MY CONCLUSION : PTDF is dominated by the Northerners and they are BITTERLY BIASED .....they seems to appear harsh on some persons from a particular part of the country .

Using a WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST to assess everyone would have been fair to all the applicants and not this Biased method of interview where some are barely asked 1 simple question in PANEL (1) and some others will be bombarded with very rigorous questions that is outside the context of the interview ... This is one of the major reason why Nigeria is a failed state..........NEPOTISM AND TRIBALISM .....

You're right but like you said, it's obvious their focus is on research. In fact one of the parameters for recommending an applicant for sponsorship is if your proposed area of study is researchable.

bb12008:
I wondered why the interviews for F/G/C scholarships did not take into consideration of membership of professional bodies which is one of their advertised selection criteria , rather they focused on publications and awards . Though, I don't know if their targets are research-oriented candidates or professional masters that would be useful in Industries. How many MSc candidates would have publications, even those in academics do not have . They ought to use aptitude test (to regularize academic proficiency),SOP, Award, Publication, Professional certificate, Interview to test candidates intelligence . Professional membership might not be necessary if the focus is research postgraduate studies, otherwise, it ought to be used to fulfill PTDF mandate of training professionals for oil & gas.
This is an observation.
