onegig: Are you guys daft or is this just willful stupidity?
So the government wants to embezzle paltry 20billion they would go through the hoops just to tell a lie that is easily verifiable?
Do you know how much they make from clearing fees, VAT alone? For every single passenger flying out of Nigeria you pay a $20 handling fee. That's just handling fee let alone the all other charges. Do you know there is a N1 ETF tax on every single litre of fuel you buy.
So they would grind businesses to a halt and lockdown all cities just to embezzle 20billion when they have alternatives of making double of that in 2 weeks?
Where do they breed this kind of idi.ots in Nigeria? We need to start asking valid questions about the stupidity of people else they would start getting bolder and start talking rubbish. How did your common sense not even tell you to look at counter claims before opening your mouth to talk this? My brother, just keep watching o. Sometimes, you would just want to beg God to inflict a large population with the virus and see those who would survive. Nigerian youths, I don't blame you. Your leaders have failed you and all you can think of is corruption. With this thinking and comments, we have a long way to go in re-orientation of our future leaders. If this is the way our youths are thinking, I doubt if there is any future for this country. We have been brainwashed with money and nothing but money. We rarely believe things especially if money is involved. How I wish Ebola has done that havoc by now, everyone would not be hungry. Ask Congolese who survived Ebola, and now facing coronavirus. The country has never been the same. Ask the same government if they believed coronavirus existed. |

solmus: the problem here is typical virus is few nanocentimeters in diameter and on a stretch end to end It would take atleast 750,000 to 1,000,000 virus to fill in a centimeter gap, and unlike bacteria that are visible to many microscope, only few high grade labs have devices to pick up a virus to study for research all what test kit does is to test for its signature and antigen.. in simple terms and Trump's word we are fighting an invisible enemy, and worst still we know little to nothing about it yet, all what W.H.O had being releasing is Theories and Hypothesis based on prior knowledge of virology
So for now we don't have enough study, we don't have a cure, we don't have vaccine and we know for certain people are dying after developing respiratory syndrome , and we know for a certain death toll is on the rise as reported at crematory centers, mortuary and cemetery ..
So I put it to you isn't it logical to stay safe and break transmission of the virus even if we have any biased conspiracy than chase death? are British Government ending EPL and Wimbledon, Japan stopping 2020 Olympics stupid also, or Saudi that make billions of dollar annually on Hajj are dumb to lock up Mecca and Medina
Stay at Home or protect yourself its damn simple, scar from loss of a loved one can hurt you for life and leave you with an emptiness in your heart
. My brother, leave them o. You see Nigerians, especially we youths, we tend to be smarter due to availabile technology within our reach. I wish Ebola had done a great havoc in Nigeria back then, all these theories would have being vague. The severity of coronavirus cannot be explained except one becomes a victim or a close relative is affected and you see the fear of death before you. Leave the theorists alone, the world have been like that from ages past and it would forever be like that. The aftermath will be vivid to us in no distant time. Some would count losses while others would smile to the bank. That's the vicious circle of warfare and life. Whichever side you want to be is left to you. Just make sure you ain't a victim because you would forever look stupid in your grave. Adhere to the rules and leave the conspirators. |

It has been proved that face mask and early detection would reduce COVID-19 to the bearest minimum. 1. Everyone should use a face mask anytime the individual is out of their home. 2. Aggressive test of everyone. A certificate should be issued to make it proactive. 3. Limit the number of people in an environment such as work places, markets etc 4..Aggressive sensitization in the communities in their native language. Importance of hand washing 5.. The government need to put a machinery into place where our data would be synchronize and a database set up. 6.. Be more proactive in distribution of relief materials. 7. Due to our communal living, it would be difficult for social distancing to be effective but if people are properly sensitized, it can be effective. 8.. Distributing sanitizers to the general public or placing them at strategic areas. |

It's a dilemma ma'am.
Don't look at the pay. Sometimes money is insignificant to one's life and peace of mind. Lots of people are in Lagos you think are doing fine. They are struggling. Not because they ain't working but expenses and bills is killing them. They can't go back home either.
Look at the future of the kids. How it would affect them academically, psychologically and mentally. I don't know their ages but with your post, they seem to be in pry and secondary level respectively. If that is the case, let them be your priority in your final decision
Prayer does it. Seek the face of your creator. He would definitely guide you. Sometimes changing environment is for our good and sometimes, its otherwise. |
Politics › Re: Should Africa Consider The Nuclear Energy Route? by meetme01: 4:09pm On Apr 22, 2020 |
mrphysics: Lol, you made a valid visualization of the energy mix or model that Nigeria should operate on. We shouldn't depend on only one source. We should have alot of sources. I agree, some states should use solar (but solar is so hard to maintain, requires alot of batteries, on the long run, you waste so much money. Trying to change panels, maintaining panels, etc. ). But it's a good option.
One striking advantage of Nuclear Power Plant is that once you start it, you will be sure you will have 24/7 electricity supply for the next 6 months except in emergency shutdown mode. It does not depend on anything apart from accidents. But Solar depends on weather conditions which is constantly changing. Depending on the intensity of the wind, it could destroy your panels, or you may not have enough sun during rainy season.
But Nuclear doesn't depend on anything. Thanks for enlightening. Aside the huge funds for the construction, what are the other fears of African leaders in embarking on such projects for the growth of the continent. I thought it was mainly due to waste which I even thought was the cause of Hiroshima. But someone up there has explained in detailed the cause ot Hiroshima. With what you painted, we have the land mass, we need electricity to revive our economy rather than wasting money in all these power projects that keeps on draining our reserves. What is the main problem? |
Politics › Re: Should Africa Consider The Nuclear Energy Route? by meetme01: 11:31am On Apr 22, 2020 |
JetStar: Africa should consider the nuclear option for its energy needs? Hmmmm...... that's not only scary but it doesn't make sense for now. Nukes have the following challenges
1. They are very expensive: Have you seen the costs of nuclear power projects across the world? The price can go as high as 6 dollar per a watt if you pay for it without borrowing. If you need some financing, then it's going to be as high as 10 dollar per a watt. Just an example: the United Kingdom is currently having a Hinkley C power plant being built in sommerset. That plant costs about 23 billion pounds. The initial price is just around 18 billion pounds but it was later revised to 23 billion pounds so that the project could be completed in time. Whats the power rating of hinkley C? Just 3 gigawatts. Now compare that to the planned Mambilla hydro power project costing just 6 billion dollars with a capacity of 3 gigawatts costing just around 6 billion dollars!!!!! For now african countries don't have the financial horsepower to fund a nuclear power plant project.
2. They are quite risky: Anything goes wrong with nuclear and you will be looking at an almost irreparable damage and reputation. For now, the nuclear tech currently in use are not advisable since they generate long term waste (lasting millions of years). Even in developed countries, where to dump the nuclear waste is currently being challenged and communities in the us are protesting against it.
The only good thing about nuclear power is the fact that they have an almost perfect capacity factor (producing power round the clock 24 hours in a day 7 days in a week) This is unlike natural gas, nuclear, wind, hydro or solar energy systems which could run out of "fuel" for the long term. Yes, it is true that nukes don't emit carbon, but they have far more dangerous waste that could last for an eternity. Learning |
Politics › Re: Should Africa Consider The Nuclear Energy Route? by meetme01: 11:28am On Apr 22, 2020 |
mrphysics: Coal? Sunlight? With heavy rainfall in Africa? You mentioned Hiroshima and Nagazaki yet you forgot it's a nuclear bomb not nuclear power plant.
Some of you do not truly understand these energy concepts. I don't want to talk about coal (its never an option). Opting for solar energy is the worst option for a country, small countries let alone a large countries like us. It's cheap, but it can't support large industries. You need a vast land to put it and you also need to get a lot of batteries which in itself isn't good. You are a Physics. Explain the energy concepts. It's always good to learn. I am not science oreinted. I believe coal is in abundance and the best for African countries. Why I beacon on solar is that, the Northern part or Nigeria has it in abundance. Their household do not need enough energy like the other regions. 200wats is enough for some households and if you remove such households from the power grid, it will cushion the effect on other energy sources. |

What about if 15states in the North make use of solar and the South make use coal while the west make use of dams and other means. Is that not a way forward.? Just asking. Ready to learn. |

If Hiroshima and Nagasaki were to happen in any African country, that may be end of such country.
What we need is to human capacity. We have available resources that is yet to be harnessed. Abundant coal and abundant sunlight. Those European countries do not have quarter of those resources hence their desire to use what is best for them.
No African country is ready for such. |

Even at that GDP per capita is abysmally low.
It starts and ends with productivity. And how do measure our productivity if you don't have a database like other nations. Why have they (leaders) made it an herculean task to have a database. All administrations from OBJ till PMB have tried to get this done. What's the problem.? The last census in this country was in 2006 and we are meant to conduct elections every 5yrs. What is our problem? The stats you gave for Canada can be gotten online but ours online would say according to 2006 census. Are we humans at all.? There are times I have challenged this government. Why is it for them to synchronize or NIN, BVN, Passport, Drivers License etc to have a unique number. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Forget it, Nigeria is a zoo |

rusher14: Some of you don't get it or simply refuse to.
Canada has 35 million people. Nigeria has 180 million people.
Part of the problem are our parents but I know you wouldn't want to say anything terrible against them.
Even if you did a job that earns you 300 dollars the entire week, you would cough out at least 75 dollars from that cheque as tax. But tell a Nigerian to pay tax and he'll be asking what has been done with the ones other people paid even if they were just 12% of the working population. Alaye, stop pretending as if people don't pay tax in this country. Public and Civil Servants pay tax. Was any palliative given to them? Some big coys like Nestle, Dangote, oil companies pay tax and that of their staff. Were they given anything? You think those Okada men don't pay tax, right? Do you know how many tickets they collect a day? What did the government do to them? All Nigeria government would do is to give poor and vulnerable. Who are poor and who are vulnerable? Nigeria is a failed state. Nigerian leaders are greedy and selfish. Nigeria is a shithole. Thanks to Mr Trump. |

Op, you have done nothing wrong. You have learnt your love lesson. Rarely do people marry their first love. Your experience is one of the things you need to have before marriage. I have been in your shoes before. Mine was on religious grounds.
It would be hard to let go. You would cry. It will weigh you down. You will be disturbed psychologically and emotionally. Trust me, with time, it will fade and you start all over. Just try as much as possible to make her a friend. She would regret. My ex whom I thought I would marry still calls. I know how she feels. I know it would be hard for her to find someone like me. I met her a viirgin, our courtship was exceptional but I still left her virgin since that's her wish. I respected her.
Pick yourself up, dust your loving skills and find another lady. I believe you now know questions you need to ask before falling into the same shit. Trust me, you did your best for your ex. Your new courtship would be better off. What I have realized in my yeare of courtship is that, if you treat a woman right and you guys depart amicably, the next lady would be much better. You would be glad she left. Shoot your shot Doc. |

She needs you so much at this time and you can't afford to jeopardize her life and yours. Your Dad is wicked. Heaven will fall if he hears. Your mum will loose her marriage. The guys parents won't send him abroad to study etc. Those are all your thoughts and negative thinking. See, those are the early signs of fear. Now, you need to calm down. When I mean calm down, you now need to think with your brain and not your heart. Ask yourself some foolish questions. If what she dies? What would I do? How would I feel? Would I ever forgive myself? etc What if we fight together for her to birth the baby? Think about the positive effects here. My sister might just be lucky to be in a good family. This may resolve our family problems. God can use it as a turn around. Heaven might just smile on US. The baby can be the blessing our family needs.etc How then do you overcome that fear? Who can I talk to that my Dad will listen to? Should I just call him and use myself as an example to see is reaction.? What about asking the parents of the guy to talk to your parents? Etc Lots of questions will pop into your head. You analyse it one after the other. Let your mind be positive. If you do this diligently and you are convinced that the way forward is what you opted for, go ahead. However, make sure you don't do things that you would later regret in life. It would be very hard to forgive yourself. It would affect you psychologically, emotionally, mentally, socially, even spiritually. Therefore, any step you decide to take think twice. |
