Family / Re: Ever Considered Changing Your Name? by megacity: 8:57pm On Jan 21, 2019
YES

I didnt like my names so I changed my middle name and surname some years ago. The only reason I kept my first name was to maintain some sort of link with my former name

Since then I have had all manner of issues! Once I gained admission to a postgraduate program in a university in this country and they almost didnt allow me to register because according to the associate dean (a prof), a man cannot change two names! According to the prof, the best they would do was to register me in my former name since my first degree certificate bears that name!

My forefathers coined those name based the limited knowledge they had back then and the names are not like godly. If after being a Christian for many years I cannot find the guts to correct the mistakes of my forefathers, I should be considered a failure

Just some few months ago, Nigerians were alerted by PDP stalwarts like Fani-Kayode that the man at the helms of affairs in Aso-Rock was not Muhammudu Buhari but an imposter named Jubril of Sudan.
Just a few weeks to the Nation's general elections, the same party has been addressing National issues to Buhari rather than Jubril of Sudan.
Can anyone tell me the sudden change in the tunes of PDP? Can they tell us how Buhari resurrected from the grave?
PDP over to you?

Yes, you heard me loud and clear. The only reason the people of South West want to vote for Buhari is not because they love him, nor because Buhari has done well, neither is it because Buhari will hand over to Osibanjo in 2023. Listen please, the main reason is that, given Buhari's health condition, if he wins, he will die soon and Osibanjo will take over. I am telling you the real truth as an insider. Nothing but the truth. Their calculation is that he will soon die to give Osibanjo the chance to take over. Same way the northern cabals want to capitalize on his health condition to milk the country, since Buhari doesn't know what is happening around him. Those calling Atiku thief are the real enemies of this country. They neither love Buhari nor the country but for their selfish interest.

What if he refuses to die after the elections ?

IF ANYONE PAID YOU TO CAMPAIGN FOR IKPEAZU, RETURN THE MONEY; YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN ALL GOOD CONSCIENCE

I come to Abia State frequently and except for selfish reason, no right thinking person will say that Ikpeazu should be re-elected.

He has not delivered any major projects.

The road to the government house is more like a road you find in interior villages

Umuahia is like a village with no major effort to transform the city

The few road he constructed are bad again due to poor quality work ....check Owerri road and Faulks road in Aba

The contractors he uses are so bad. Those that dug drainages in Owerri road Aba, left deep holes uncovered all over, constituting death traps, absolute madness. I have only ever seen this kind of shoddy work in Abia state.

The flyover under construction at Osisioma junction is a summary of how useless Ikpeazu's government has been. This is the only flyover Ikpeazu has attempted to construct to the best of my knowledge. It's taking forever, looking like an abandoned project with only one piece of equipment, and one or two laborers at the site! At the rate work is going, Ikpeazu will not complete that flyover even if you give 10 years more!

Compare this with others: By the time Obiano was going for re-election, he had already completed three flyovers in Awka.

Go to Abakaliki and check the roads and the number of solid flyovers Umahi has done...

And Abia state is an oil producing state with more resources than these other states

The international agreements on diplomatic immunity can be found in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. For instance, the receiving state is not permitted to prosecute diplomats, and must protect them, along with their families, staffs and property. The main aim of the Convention is to allow diplomats to carry out their work without hindrance in the receiving state.

I went to my polling centre and finally collected my PVC today.... surprisingly, the INEC officials (a young man, a young lady, and a Civil Defence Corp officer) were sitting idly as there was no other person there to collect their cards

I saw several wraps of uncollected PVCs and I wonder why people are not going to collect their cards

Please go collect yours if you have not, I understand they will work through the weekend - Saturday and Sunday...... It's easy cause they have brought it down to the polling centres which shouldnt be far from your residence

The US does not bar anyone for visiting based on mere allegations of corruption. They do that only for political reasons. The US will in fact either grant people who have cases to answer their visas if they apply or simply ask that such persons be extridited.

In other not to offend Obasanjo who US government has strong ties with, they simply sacrificed Atiku by denying him visa. When Obasanjo approved Atiku, the US quickly acted in the same manner, granting Atiku visa. Note that in previous elections where Atiku has contested, the US did not grant Atiku visa because of Obasanjo.

We don't love Obasanjo but he is today the most internationally respected Nigerian leader. The US value the relationship with him. This is the bitter truth that many will find difficult to swallow.

You dont love Obasanjo - you and who?

I love OBJ very very well.....he is by far the best president Nigeria has ever had...he virtually paid Nigeria's external debts to the last Kobo

Before proceeding with the Onnoghen trial, I 'm of the view that the asset declarations forms of the president, his vice, all governors and ministers should be released to the public so that Nigerians can vet them to confirm that they all declared all their assets and no false information was submitted. I heartily support PMB's corruption fight but let it be very very holistic.

Onnoghen's form must not be scrutinized in isolation because what is good for the goose is also good for .......what is that again?

ONNOGHEN WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DECLARED ASSETS, LET'S HAVE THE FORMS OF ALL OTHER PUBLIC OFFICERS!

What do you think?

seunmsg:

My friend, nobody opens an account with the intention of keeping it as a liability. You open an account with the intention to store financial assets in it. That an account has a nil balance or overdrawn temporarily at a point in time doesn’t make it irrelevant when you are required to legally list your bank accounts. The fact that money was later later discovered in the account says it all. Even Onnoghe’s legal counsel won’t argue the point you are trying to argue.

Not quite.

Someone can open an account with the intent of borrowing with it, and if the balance is overdrawn it becomes a liability rather than asset.

Also that there is money in your account doesn't meant you own the money. The money might belong to your spouse, family members, friends, or even clients

Even if it is overdrawn, declare it.

Interpretations must be in context. The name of the form is ASSET Declaration Form. If an account is not an asset, it follows that it doesnt fall within the purview of accounts that should be declared

It must be established if an account is an asset or not to determine if it should have been included in the ASSET Declaration Form.

Hiding one of your account from the law is a crime.

Hope you know that when you complete an asset declaration form, you still need to take it before a commissioner for oaths where you will swear that all the information provided (including all your bank accounts) are accurate? When you fail to declare an account, you have simply lied to the government. It becomes bad when years later, that same account was discovered with huge foreign currencies. We now know why he failed to declare the account in the first instance.

what is the balance in those accounts?

Thank you very much. And what happens if you deliberately omit, withhold or " forget" to include this information?
Please pardon my ignorance, I just like to learn.

It is quite possible for a human being to forget something.

In this case, the right thing to do would be to take time to investigate the source of the funds into the accounts that were not declared. It must be established that the funds in the account are proceeds of crime before the CJN is charged. Merely forgetting to declare an account is not necessarily a crime

If the money in those accounts are not proceeds of crime, it doesnt make any reasonable sense to charge the CJN. In no case should the CJN be charged in a haste because doing that will ridicule the office of the CJN and the entire Judiciary.

What is it if you own the account and the credit balance in it? Say, a few million dollars?

It would be an asset that should be declared.

But there is no mention of the account balance and the ownership.
