Litmus: You’re making assumptions and arguing on the bases of these assumptions as though you're arguing with facts. For example, you stated: "there's no JUSTIFICATION under the SUN for killing unarmed combatants". Here you’re assuming that those killed are combatants and assuming that they are unarmed and then you proclaimed there’s no "JUSTIFICATION under the SUN for killing unarmed combatants" , when actually military or police may be justified if threatened. Secondly you've assumed the army is waging war and that those they are waging war with are Unarmed. Shebi you read where someone said the soldiers attacked the community because they didn't meet the ultimatum to produce the people they are looking for or where he said the traditional rulers palace was destroyed because they said those they were looking for were hiding there? In all you have been reading since, did you read anywhere that the villagers shot at the soldiers and were thus attacked with such overwhelming force? In all you read did you read of any arms recovered from the destroyed village? You that have facts beyond these oya state them nah. |

Covert1: You just said about Ghana "an Army captain they thought was a thief". You see the difference right there. This was not the case here nor was it the case in Odi or Zaki Biam. In all these cases they saw armed uniformed servicemen on duty, ambushed and killed them in cold blood while hiding amongst innocent civilians leading to the reprisals you see which has been the basic counter insurgency tactics of every other military force including the United States to get those communities to give up the assailants. Hate it, yes but in war they say all is fair. Those soldiers are also people's kids and benefactors.
It happens in other countries like Nigeria not unlike Nigeria. I seek not to bore you with that.
But with reference to your "every region and tribe will have a well armed group". The good thing for the Army is that these are disparate groups and I can tell you the Army is more than a match for them. You only just need to keep them divided. In the end innocent people will be killed, the Nigerian Army will still be here and life will go on. Let's rather sue for peace. No one of these groups has any chance for success on it's own. And if the Nigerian military is pushed to the wall the Myanmar option becomes inevitable.
You see Nigeria is a dynamic country. It is not Ghana. The pressure lines of tribe and ethnicity is so thick and made worse by resource agitations and nepotism by the powers that be.
There is no perfect society. What some of us are calling for in a country like Nigeria is nigh impossible. We can accept to come to what's workable like restructuring in some way which the old man in Aso Rock promised, got voted in only to get there and tow the line of his predecessors, such a shame. What is wrong with galvanizing political activity and voting in the right person for the job nstead of fighting. The people can channel that energy into political action for reform, economic and social justice. When an army chooses to LEVEL an entire community for the crime of having CRIMINALS in their midst or NOT PROVIDING the criminals at the behest of the soldiers, its indeed a sad day. And there's no JUSTIFICATION under the SUN for killing unarmed combatants because those whom you wish to wage war against are in their midst.......... Its like justifying ISWAP attacking the wives and children of soldiers in a barrack because their soldier husbands live there and they refused to produce their soldier relations at the request of ISWAP. |

jpphilips: We have lived with herdsmen for nearly a century so seeing them is no news, I asked, where are the Fulani militia in Anambra? if you dont know the difference between herdsmen and militia, I cant help you. The communities you mentioned have no Fulani militia, I speak the language of facts not the bullshit ESN vomit online, if you cant show me where the militias are in Anambra, what is ESN doing there? I have given you locations in MY LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA where the natives have been having running clashes with Fulani's for more than two years. Towns where women no longer go to farms and men arm themselves and go in groups to farm and you sit in the comfort of your home to tell me I am repeating ESN propaganda? I have told you of the locations where you can visit and prove yo yourself that the presence of Fulani militia is propaganda but here is your reply. You can say whatever you want but it won't change the facts on ground. Have your fun. |

jpphilips: Read into your head not your scrotum, Fulani militia in the SE affects only Ebonyi, what is ESN doing in Anambra, Imo, Abia & Rivers? that is the point. I understand its an association of low IQs but they shouldn't expect everyone to think like them, 5yrs ago, they were looking for a country, they hit a brick wall, they started hunting herdsmen where they pose no threat with assault riffles to raise an army of Kidnappers, today they are killing cops, how does any of these make sense? No Fulani militia in Anambra? Bro, take a ride through Nando-Umueri-Aguleri-Igariam towns down to Ayamelum LGA to-Anam-Adani towns. IF you successfully get to any town in Ayamelum LGA without running into them, ask the villagers to direct you to their farms then you go there alone. IF you get back unscathed, you can now come and talk like you know what's happening in Anambra state. PS.... You can take this ride at any time of the day. |

kabe1: We cannot purchase the sentinal aircraft as there are maintenance and durability issues with that aircraft, hence it was retired early.
Government needs to make security a priority, there simply is no evidence to show that this government and the previous governments since OBJ consider security to be important.
We need to overhaul our security architecture, invest in training, manpower and equipment.
There should be a separate agency that handles purchase of equipment and secrecy in procurement of equipment encourages corruption. Nigerians need to know what we are buying, the number and cost. This information should be readily available for scrutiny and public.
In terms of training our soldiers, especially the army need better training, our soldiers have a habit of abandoning equipment, chain of command especially in the lower ranks of the army seems inexistent.
Soldiers need to be held responsible for loss of equipment.
SOP needs to be overhauled and strictly adhered to, and soldiers in charge of squads need to be held responsible for failure to adhere to SOP.
Our troops need to be rotated more from the battlefield, this idea were men spend up to 3 years in the battlefield before rotation is not helpful to anyone and only seeks to empower the terrorists.
As a nation, Nigerians love to politicise security issues, as a result there is a security challenge in every region of Nigeria.
Politicization of security challenges needs to stop.
12 years and counting of an insurgency, yet we still are stuck with the same problems as in 2009. I no know how to quantify the over sense wet you make here. Very spot on, especially the training and rotation angle. I dey owe you one CHILLED BOTTLE |

MOFOs had a LUCKY shot..... High altitude flights and aggressive area bombing (artillery pieces will do if we don't have the planes) are possible solutions.
The planners in the air force and army need to come up with an overblown response to this incidence. Let the ID-OTS know that in this war, such actions attract excessively, disproportionate, overblown reactions.Fear suppose catch them to hold gun sef anytime they see anything in the air..... Whyem15:
.... You people ehn..... You won't kill someone. Anyways, the second week of little/no attack from ISWAP is going... Could it be they have reverted to proper defense? Or they've reverted to the normal strategy of retreating in the face of military onslaught only to regroup after the military has gone? Or are they planning something massive? To save themselves the stress, the military should treat it like the terrorists are planning a MAJOR attack. That way, no one will be caught unaware IF it happens and they will defend better if something small happens. *modified* SamuelAnyawu mentioned they hear rumours of a MAJOR terrorist offensive being planned. We don dey sing am like song here; we should always be on the offensive. The planning for a MAJOR offensive usually means that for at least one day, there will be a large gathering of this guys at their staging area. With the proper intel, i see an opportunity for airstrikes here. |

Covert1: Tracking is not as simplistic after the chaos of an attack at least from the air as you make it sound. Own troops in hot pursuit could end up casualties. We can't emphasize enough for the A-29s that's if the old man in the White House don't hallucinate new ideas suddenly. About their bases please let's be serious the NAF knows them and has been bombing them since 2015 with HE ordnance. The problem is they keep moving. Hence the new acquisitions for reach, payload, endurance and precision. There should be some changes shortly. In the midst of it all, you still made the point of them attempting to break the psyche of the troops. I however disagree that ONLY BLEEDING CAN BREAK THE PSYCHE OF A NIGERIAN SOLDIER. Them too na human beings. As for the tracking..... I started with .....". IF ONLY WE HAD.".... so I don't see where I made it sound simplistic or suggest that the troops go after them on foot like you implied. At the end, when summarized, we still said the same things..... RRSPECT BOSS! |

Covert1: Not really, they need those weapons besides to keep the Army busy on multiple fronts that way divert, delay, deny the military freedom of action. They were always gonna come back, the quiet had just been regrouping and re-strategizing especially with the trickle in of new wonder weapons. ISWAP is well led. One reason they overrun garrison towns is die-commanders on their side who are tasked with kill or be killed orders. There's only so much a soldier on ground can do without precision close air support. Of course they need the weapons from the base. Do they have the capacity at the moment to launch an overwhelming attack to over run it? No (at last for now) Looking at the pattern/frequency of the attacks on that base(about once a week if I am correct), their strategy is to continually keep the troops on alert for as long as possible(in anticipation of the weekly attacks and also to prevent surprise attacks within the week(since most of the weekly attacks happen on weekends). The combatants in field will tell you how psychologically taxing it is to be at alert and on the defensive without relief(because of the security operations all over the country, rotation is almost zero at the moment) The more they do these weekly attacks, the more it gets on the nerves of the troops and the more likely it is for someone to make a mistake which they will capitalize on. If only we had a means to track them back to base after one of these attacks and go on the offensive (even if na only bombing), they will learn to respect/fear attacking this base with this frequency. |

Lurker4Long: RAAD 1 was the Pakistani version of the Denel MUPSOW. Denel helped the Pakistanis integrate it onto the Mirage, due to South Africa having developed the weapon for that aircraft.
RAAD 2 has extended the range, and been integrated onto the JF17. According to a Denel acquaintance, "Pakistan has only done 1 test firing of the Raad2 on the Thunder, and has yet to qualify the weapon on this particular platform. The NAF aren't idiots, and would not buy a weapon that's not yet qualified by the manufacturer."
Make of that what you will. Please allow people dream of their nuclear missile in peace...... Must you spoil the fun? |
