Institutional Accreditation: Bayero University Shines! By ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD MUSA As the National Universities Commission [NUC] released the result of its 2011 Institutional Accreditation of Nigerian Universities, Bayero University, Kano has once again written its name in gold in the annals of University education by retaining its top spot among the Nigerian Universities. The National Universities Commission [NUC], which conducted the Institutional Accreditation in various Universities Nationwide late last year [2011], from 27th November – 2nd December, 2011 and conducted the exercise. In a letter containing the result of the exercise, the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie said based on the exercise conducted across the Nigerian Universities, Bayero University, Kano scored 71.10 percent with full accreditation which is valid for 7 consecutive years. Prof. Okojie congratulated the University for recording yet another milestone in University education in Nigeria. It should be noted that during the NUC November/December Institutional Accreditation Exercise in Nigerian Universities, the Commission evaluated Institutional vision, mission and strategic goals; institutional governance and administration, resources, quality of teaching / learning and research; institutional efficiency, extension services and consultancies, transparency, financial management and stability, as well as general ethos. Bayero University, Kano was able to get 71.10 percent full accreditation status. On the other hand, the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman and the ACN Presidential flag bearer at the 2011 general elections, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has tasked the entire University community to intensify prayers, owing to the security challenges facing the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The former anti-graft czar said what befell the University recently was destined by God. He averred that it was tragic and uncalled for to attack a high profile University like Bayero University, Kano by some unknown people at a time when the University was increasingly becoming a leading light and transforming into a reference point of University education in Nigeria. While praying for those who lost their lives, the former EFCC boss comforted the University to be patient and take the unfortunate incident as a will of God. Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, MNI, said normal activities have since resumed in the University. Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor [Academics], Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, the Vice Chancellor, appealed to all and sundry to assist the University in prayers. He stressed that the University has made frantic efforts to improve the security situation in both campuses of the University. http://desertherald.com/?p=1615 |
polygamy!! simples Win-win situation. You keep ur wife and get to test ur ammunition on another target! |
otumfour:@otumfour; I use a MBP with the exact specifications, except it has core i5 + 4GB RAM (its actually weird and surprising u hav 2.7GB RAM). Anyways, i've had it for a year now and its still going strong. Even switching from snow leopard to Lion went without hiccups. I mainly use mine for high power computer simulations and its excellent. Particularly, I'm impressed with the hyperthreading which enables me to virtualize a Quad-core to run 4 Parallel simulations |
Da_b¤§§.:@Da_b¤§§; I think the Gt card problem is not confined to him, i've heard alot of complaints recently that companies are not accepting the Gt card. So i tried using mine too on a "certain" website yesterday and they informed me they were having problems accessing the fund. Its either a temporary problem or something else. In any event, @big deal should get his account up and running for now using the tutorial on the link provided above |
However, it seems you are in luck and it turns out that there is actually a "work around" to open account without a card. Just follow the instructions posted on the link below, you should be sorted in no time! lemme know if it works for you http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534 |
big deal 007:well, most international firms do not accept nigerian cards un4tun8ly. In my case, I use a foreign card registered outside the country. If it helps, when I opened my account a couple of years I was in 9ja and there was no app store/iTunes store registrtion allowed in 9ja, so i just used a US "random" address. ofcourse at the time they didnt insist on the card details. so you could download only free apps |
@big deal; download the official app for either iPad and/or iphone |

iyes:@iyes very APT. u hav hit the nail on the head. exactly my thots, just that i dont hav the time and energy to type all these points out. |
uzochinedu:@uzochinedu Workers aged 22 and older the minimum wage is 5.80 pounds per hour. Workers 18-21 it s 4.83 pounds. 3.27 pounds per hour for all workers under the age of 18. |
@muami Honestly, even though u sound objective in your argument, I still cannot contend or see any sense in comparing fuel price in the Uk and 9ja. Yes agreed PMS is an international product just like laptops, smartphones, airline tickets etc, but why does the UN have the index called "poverty line"? and the question then becomes what is the percentage of nigerians under that standardized POVERTY LINE compared with britons? Let the truth be told, the systems in place in both countries will support the common man differently. Those that know anything about living in britain know very well that the system in place actually discourages owning a car. Even if PMS doesn't prevent u from driving, u'll have a barrage of MOT, road taxes, insurance, parking expenses etc. Moreover, anyday u wake up and dont feel upto it, u'll go enter public transport. Infact, a sizeable percentage of people utilize the public transport system even though they have their cars. So please, sticking to the OPs initial post, I believe it deserves all the criticisms it is getting on this thread. |
@poster, i think by default if u go to open account in GT, they'll open both current and savings for u. So i guess u dont need to worry |
yeah, there should definitely be regulators to prevent fraudulent or deceptive adverts in mass media. I remember earlier this year, the regulator in UK (ofcom) actually banned a burger king or McDonalds advert (not sure which again), because they claim it falsely represents the size of burger the customer actually gets! Also, there was a move by ofcom to ban companies advertising misleading internet broadband speeds. it says that even though some customers do get upto those speeds, most customers dont and as a result is misleading. so its not a function of using your brain, but people do need some level of protection from misleading adverts. |
this is the reason why i keep saying our journalists are silly. It is IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE AN ENTIRE POWER PLANT from its location just like some earlier posters have pointed out. Just like u coming to tell me that people in my street woke up and found the National Assembly in front of the street. They should better go and find out what was relocated. If they say N500m worth of equipment, does that qualify it to become a power plant? Nonsense, and people are even saying anything is possible |
dont nigerian journalists know the difference between aliens and foreign Nationals? or were they deported back to another planet? |
odumchi: @ Alj@odumchi, I'm sorry, i didnt mean to insult ur intelligence but it was ur post that made me conclude u wanted to join the military. Meanwhile, for the sake of enlightenment (and not cross exams), the UN doesnt send troops for only peacekeeping. Peacekeeping is just ONE out of other functions UN troops could find themselves performing. They could send troops for Peace Enforcement as was the case in Rwanda or when nigerian troops first entered conflict areas like Liberia (authorised by AU i think). The UN security council also authorizes other peace enforcement missions even if it doesnt directly send the troops, as is the case most recently in Libya (currently carried out by NATO) Lastly, with regards ur comment on the IG of police. there was no reference to the police in all ur recent posts (or anyone else's), so i just jumped to the conclusion u were reacting to my comments on the service chiefs, thats all. so sorry abt that |
odumchi:@odumchi, what does the boldened phrase mean? and BTW no country jumps into another just like that. You are here on Nairaland seeking to join the military, which means u dont know much about it. I dont think you are in the right position to judge the experience of Nigerian senior military officers. Have u heard of War College? Granted that they may not have much experience like US, UK military officers, but where have u seen real wars going on, with troops actually participating these days? Most places u see foreign troops now are UN operations, and the troops are carrying out some form of peace mission. I guess IG of police sounds good too ![]() What do u mean by the above? That the IG is from the north? Anyways, the police is not part of the Armed forces, thats why they are called CIVIL police!! |
lagerwhenindoubt:@lagerwhenindoubt, ezeUche and co; FYI i dont know where u people get the idea that u need to be a northerner to progress in the Nigerian Military? Last I checked The Army, Naval, Airforce chiefs are not northerners including the chief of Defence staff. Anyway, u are all entitled to ur belief. @OP. The nigerian Armed forces is not like the police where u can get promoted for passing exams or foiling a robbery attack or some silly reason. In the armed forces, even if u go to War, u dont get promoted tilll u pass all ur exams and the time of ur promotion has reached. Meaning, there is a minimum time u MUST spend on each rank. Thats why BUZUGEE's story of his friend becoming a BRIG GEN in 10 yrs holds no water. odumchi:FYI; Nigerian officers are presently deployed in Sudan, congo, Liberia, sierra leone etc and all those other places where UN peacekeepin operations are taking place. BTW, Since when has there been War in Chad? |
Nigerians Jailed After First Phishing Fraud Prosecution in UK (UK Mirror) Three fraudsters have been jailed in what is thought to be the first UK prosecution for an organised phishing operation. The gang obtained details of 10,000 credit cards and 900 bank accounts after sending emails that looked like they were official bank messages, asking their victims to confirm account details including passwords. They then stole an estimated £3.1million from their victims' credit cards and around £600,000 from bank accounts. Babatunde Fafore of County Meath in Ireland, Ayodeji John Kareem of south east London and Vincent Alonge of Wimbledon, south west London (above, left to right), have been jailed for a total of more than 13 years. DI Colin Wetherill, of Scotland Yard's Police Central e-Crime Unit said: "In collaboration with law enforcement colleagues and industry partners both in the UK and overseas we are working to identify and bring to justice those committing serious and organised offences of this nature online, and to reduce the harm they cause to innocent individuals and to the economy. These convictions represent a significant step forward. "However, we all have a role to play in the protection of our private information and we would urge the public to exercise great care when supplying their personal details online, and to take the advice given at www.getsafeonline.org". David Levy of the Central Fraud Group of the Crown Prosecution Service said: "These men profited enormously by taking advantage of the trust that many of us would place in an internet service that appeared genuine, but their enjoyment of their ill-gotten gains was short-lived. The bogus emails and websites that led victims into the scam also led the authorities to the scammers. "Those who use the internet thinking they can phish with impunity should be warned by this case that you will be found out and you will be prosecuted." Kareem, 38, pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to conspiracy to defraud and was sentenced to three and half years, plus five years five months for conspiracy to acquire and use criminal property, the sentences to run concurrently. Alonge, 31, pleaded guilty to fraud offences and was given six months and a second sentence of two years, the sentences to run consecutively. Fafore, 41, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud and got four years, and five years seven months for using criminal property, both sentences to run concurrently. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/nigerians-jailed-after-first-phishing-fraud-prosecution-uk-mirror-uk |
hbrednic:did u read the part that many other papers report it? |

nana:how can BOTH be HARDER? i've noticed we also have 'both' option in the voting column ![]() |
As a nation we should be thinking of disability acts/bills etc, to ensure equal opportunities for disabled in terms of jobs and education and ensuring buildings are structured to accommodate the use of wheelchairs etc like the poster highlighted. In the meantime, we need to take it up on ourselves as individuals to help the less privileged among us. @OP, thanks for the wonderful post |
@poster, Salam 1. Not wanting to have more than 3 children? so what happens if you dont have a male child on the next attempt? ![]() 2. Seriously though, i dont think you need to go for Hajj specially to make a du'a. But generally there are periods and places where the expectation of answering prayers by Allah SWT is high. with regards Hajj, the sacredness of the Arafat ground and time of standing of Arafat is a place and time in which prayers are accpted. However, the rasul SAW has also given other places and times. Your ability to maximise such opportunities could greatly enhance your chances. Eg. third part of the night, OR when u are in sujood OR the night of friday OR when u are travelling OR between Adhan & Iqamah. Also, if your parents are alive, the prayers of the parent to a child is accepted. In addition, there are regulations guiding du'a, so learn them and try to implement. 3. Most importantly, the Rasul SAW said that the prayers of a muslim are AlWAYS ANSWERED. so because u dont get a baby boy in the next attempt OR anyother attempt doesnt mean ur prayers werent answered. prayers are answered in 3 ways. Either u ar given what u asked for, OR it is replaced for u with something better (or used to prevent certain evil befalling upon you) OR you see the reward on the day of judgement. so do not despair and be patient with Allah's judgement. |
@poster, this event happens every 11 yrs. so if u go check ur calender, to August '99 and August '21, i guess u'll also see 5 sundays, mondays and tuesdays. cheers |
azharuddin:@azharuddin, jazakallah for ur reminder. this further explains the issue raised in the verse Q2:44 [Asad translation] "Do you bid other people to be pious, the while you forget your own selves -and yet you recite the divine writ? Will you not, then, use your reason?" However, my opinion is that this is not trying to prohibit you from enjoining good completely if u arent practising it, but it is just trying to discourage u. Enjoining goog to a certain extent is indepenedent to doing good, though they are mentioned together alot e.g. surah Asr. But, again in surah Ma'idah with regards the Children of Isreal who rejected faith, part of the curse fell upon them because they didnt forbid one another from doing evil (Q5:78 - 79) Moreover, the muslims were called the best ummah, because they forbade evil and enjoined good. (Q3:110). Therefore, in summary what i am trying to say is that rather than getting scared of enjoining good because we are not practising it OR waiting till we start practising before we enjoin good, we should use these references (above), as a motivation (not a demotivation). P.S; this issue quickly brings to mind the issue of quran memorization; when some pple are of the opinion that there is a punishment for forgetting what u have memorized, and so some muslims get discouraged from memorising altogether. Rather, they should look at the benefits of memorization, then memorise and strive not to forget. I hope, i dont sound too confusing? Allah knows best |
Iyineda:@Iyineda and how many world cups have u seen? |
moonraker:i think the micro sim may not be as serious a problem as it may look. there are devices called sim cutters, that can cut out the normal sim to a micro bit. and u could get an adapter if u wish to use the sim again in a normal fone |
@poster, well, this is a wonderful initiative. However, i believe that the first idea of members to memorise any verse they are comfortable with, may be a better idea. because, if u start from the top or bottom, u may never satisfy everyone. and what would happen is that, the person willing to start and realises that you are in a chapter he isnt comfortable with may bcom discouraged. But, it would be good if we use the thread as a support group. you could also visit this site; it may be easier for members to use, while waiting for a 635mb download in nigeria (where the speed is usually slow). http://www.hifzhelper.com/ but good initiative. Jazakallah |
@poster, if u ar carrying out a survey, why dont u hav a vote up there, so that u can easily have an idea of the statistics. I believe once this thread runs into more pages, u'll loose track of all the opinions ![]() |
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is reportedly planning to enter the race to snap up the 16% stake of Arsenal's fourth largest shareholder Lady Nina Bracwell-Smith. Aliko Dangote (L) is the 261st richest person in the world Dangote, one of Africa's richest men, is said to have registered his interest in the shareholding being sold by Bracewell-Smith, according to The Sunday Times. The move could spark a takeover battle for the Gunners, with other contenders including its two biggest current investors - Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov - who would be forced to launch a full takeover bid for the club if they secured the stake. Mr Dangote is reportedly a passionate football fan and has the wealth to go head-to-head with sports entrepreneur Kroenke and Russian oligarch Usmanov. The Nigerian industrialist has stood for the role of president of the Nigerian football association and is believed to have donated cash to the Nigerian national football team. Mr Dangote founded manufacturing empire Dangote Group and was formerly head of the Nigerian stock exchange. He was named as the 261st richest person in the world on the 2009 Forbes rich list, with an estimated fortune of $2.5 billion. Finance house Blackstone is now thought to have placed him on the shortlist to buy the Arsenal stake, with Lady Bracewell-Smith is said to be seeking £160 million for her stake after putting it on the sale block earlier this year. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=789663&sec=england&cc=5739 |
