bethnals: Hmm. Are you and her muslim? Your wife sits on your lap in front of her mates? That to me shows lack of respect of you by her.I am kind of confused here, what has muslim got to do with his wife sitting on his lap? |
deols: #83. Allah forgives all sins.He forgives ALL sins, if its not too late (for definition of "too late" see for e.g. Q4:17-18). Meaning as long as you are alive, He will forgive you if you turn to him even if its shirk. However, when you die, He can forgive anything EXCEPT shirk. Read the verses following Q39:53 for more explanation. |
architectB: let me try to respond 2 just a few of ur message according to their numbers in ur post:The Qur'an in other places has mentioned all weak people should be protected. In fact most of the injunctions and calls to justice and avoiding interest is to protect the weak. Anyway Allah says we should protect the weak among Men, women and children who are been oppressed (4:75) architectB: 12. does anybody still bosom feed their kids for 2 years? in today's world, that wud almost be a miracle...If you read the verse in its entirety, you will come to understand that the 2 years breast-feeding period is a maximum. Actually (46:15) says "...gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months...", which means if the gestation was at the known minimum of 6 months then you could wean at 2 yrs, if gestation was at the average of 9 months, then maximum time to wean is 21 months. So actually the verse is prohibiting breast feeding AFTER 2 years...If you go up north in Nigeria, you will find it a common practice for kids to breast feed upto 20 - 21 months. architectB: 22. yeah right, i should also believe the false prophets right? There are known prophets in Islam, many we do not even know by name (e.g. 40:78), and only 25 were mentioned by name in the Qur'an. For example in 6:83-86 alone, 18 prophets were mentioned. We believe that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was the last of them. so we believe in the prophets that we were told are prophets only. However, the verse commands MUSLIMS to believe ALL prophets that WE have been told about. If you are not a muslim, then my sincere advice to you is not to loose sleep over this architectB: 25. i bet even u that sent in this post will not restrain ur anger if i say one negative word about ur prophet mohammed, would u?In general, in several places we have been told to restrain our anger. If the poster finds it difficult to restrain his anger in certain situations, that is his weakness which he needs to work on. However, you should note that Islam does not forbid you to retaliate. We have not been commanded to "turn the other cheek". But if you wish to retaliate, you have to give back in EQUAL MEASURE ONLY. But even then, if you forgive and restrain yourself, it is better. for example: 16:126 says : "And if you punish [O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient." Furthermore, Q42: 40 - 42 says: "( 40 ) And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. ( 41 ) And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame]. ( 42 ) The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment." In a nutshell, islam deals with justice, it will be considered Gross injustice if you were just told to turn your cheek after someone has slapped. I have observed even here on Nairaland, you have been very angry at the treatment metted out to some people by the LASTMA officials. That kind of treatement by nature brings out anger. Lastly, A man came to the prophet and asked for advice. The prophet sais: Dont' get angry, he asked for another advice and the prophet repeated don't get angry and for the third time again, the prophet said dont get angry. In another situation, the prophet said, The man who is strong, is not the man who can throw his enemy to the ground, but the man who can restrain himself when he is angry. So you may rightly ask then, why are muslims easily provoked? and then I will tell you that: Because they are mostly failing to follow the teachings of their religion! .....but Allah knows best architectB: 29. what if i want 2 give my wealth to charity? In Islam once you die, it is no longer considered your wealth, but the wealth of your inheritors, if you wish to give your wealth in charity, there is ample time to do that while you are alive. However, you are encouraged to make a will, in which you can give a maximum of a third of your wealth out. If the amount exceeds a third, then the permission of the inheritors will be sought. If they disagree, then they will inherit. (check Hadith and Quran 2:180 and the like) architectB: 31. is it okay to devour the property of those that not orphans? No, its not Ok... Q4:29 says: "O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful." architectB: 44. why r they prohibited, i think u should give us a reason cos if my goat is involved in an accident that kills it instantly in my presence, i am going 2 fry d damn thing...Well...thats the rule...by the way, do you know that diseases run in the blood? thats why by a simple blood test you could decipher if someone is sick and what kind of sickness? so, even medically you should avoid drinking blood. As for the rest, eating any kind of carcass is not allowed, please if you are in the bush dont be stingy, leave it for the other wild animals to have a field day ![]() architectB: 50. what if they are false deities e.g i hear some people worship cows, some snakes, some iron, etc.whatever others believe in, we are not allowed to insult. Funny enough, at the time these verses were first revealed, most of the unbelievers worshipped idols, carved from wood, stone or even moulded from food items! but the muslims were never allowed to insult them. Btw...why would you want to insult something that someone else holds dear? Is it just to hurt them or will it make you feel better? well, if its just to hurt them, then hurting the feelings of others is also prohibited islamically! architectB: 55. what if i dont have good clothes to wear during prayer, do i go and borrowAllah knows your intentions and what is in the mind, if your situation is that bad, then Allah says "Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity."...Q2:286...meaning you could pray even naked in extreme circumstances. architectB: 82. but they should not clad themselves like they are masquerades, covering everything and leaving just a peep hole for their eyes, i think that's just plain... i reserve my comment...well, if someone wishes to cover themselves that way, it shouldnt be a problem to anyone. Afterall, others have chosen to move around in their "birthday" suits and they are been tolerated! As a general advice, please any point that you do not understand, it will be good to check a copy of the Qur'an and read the verse for yourself, it may gove you a better insight as to the true meanings.... I have attempted to answer your posts, with the assumption that you are sincerely seeking for knowledge. May we all be guided to the truth! |

Taraba State: Suntai Unfit To Return To Governorship, House of Assembly Says The Taraba State House of Assembly says it is convinced that Governor Danbaba Suntai could not have authored the letter that was transmitted to it on Monday indicating he was fit to return to work, and authorized the Acting Governor to continue in that capacity. In a press statement following the visit of the members of the House to Governor Suntai yesterday, Speaker Haruna Sokwa said that during their visit, the governor spoke in a manner that brought more doubt that he could have written the letter. “Be that as it may, we the undersigned members of the State House of Assembly have unanimously resolved in our meeting that the deputy governor upon whom power was earlier transmitted by the State House of Assembly still remains the Acting Governor of Taraba State and he will continue to act in that regards until such a time the Governor is capable of administering the State,” the statement said. Governor Suntai suffered brain injuries in an aircrash in October 2012, and for 10 months was treated first in Germany and then the United States. Doctors said his injuries were so severe he could not lead a normal life, but last weekend, he was brought back to the country by a cabal led by his wife, claiming he was “healed.” Within 24 hours, the cabal had sent a letter to the House, claiming it originated from the governor, following which “the governor” also dissolved the cabinet. It is unclear if those behind the plot will be made to face the law. source - http://saharareporters.com/news-page/taraba-state-suntai-unfit-return-governorship-house-assembly-says |

hegelian: it can easily be inferred from this and many other verses in the Quran and Hadith that the real essence of worship is to become a better person and not to gain paradise. having a good character is what makes one righteous and righteousness is what is profound in the Quran. worshiping along with good character is going to be a plus but one with sound character is already a friend of God.Dear brother, your post sounds like worhsip and character are two different things. In fact, good character IS A FORM of worship. In islam, worship is defined as obeying Allahs command (doing the do's and staying away from the dont's) for the benefit of the readers, we could also say that everything you do, like reading this post, going to the market is actually worship if we do them correctly and with the right intentions. Perhaps, you are separating the acts of worship which constitute the Pillars; like SALAT, FASTING etc. As for your statement, emphasis should be on character not worship, the truth is that if you conduct the SALAT, FASTING etc correctly, these will automatically build your character and raise the consciousness of Allah in you. Numerous verses in the Quran have pointed to this fact. All-in-all though I agree with your argument that people need to extend their Islam outside of the Mosques and let it rub on people they meet in the streets, their househlods etc through character...read below NB: 1. The prophet (SAW) was asked what will take people to paradise the Most and he said, the consciousness of Allah (Taqwah) and good character (Husnul khuluq) 2. The verse in Surah Baqarah v 177 emphasized that not only prayer constitutes, goodness and infact places Salat much down the list.... "It is not Al-birr (piety, righteousness, and each and every act of obedience to Allah, etc.) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers); but Al-birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to Al-Masakin (the poor), and to the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and to set slaves free, performs As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat ), and gives the Zakat, and who fulfil their covenant when they make it, and who are patient in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are Al-Muttaqun (the pious)" - {translation: Mohsin Khan} |

karpentar: Will CNN cover the judgement day?Is CNN covering the discussion on this thread right now? ![]() |
@OP, to understand the need for a judgement day, you first need to understand the purpose of why you exist on this earth. secondly, I believe the Lord has sent me guidelines. A set of dos and donts which we as human beings need to adhere to. Part of those rules apply to my relationship between myself and the Lord directly, while the other part has to do with my relationship with other beings like me. The judgement has nothing to do with giving me a fair hairing, because by definition God cannot cheat (because cheating/oppression is unGodly). Hence, on that day, your deeds will be made manifest to you. Now take for example, a guy called hitler comes along and decides to kill a million people and then commits suicide. Does that mean that this hitler guy has gone scot free? No way! He'll be judged. If another guy named Sani decides to steal our collective commonwealth as Nigerians but then dies or is poisoned, does he go scot free or is he made to account for his actions. Or lets say, a guy kills my father but has a very powerful lawyer to defend him on this earth, on that day, that Judgement will be repeated and what is due to the murderer and lawyer will be handed back to them etc When your deeds are presented to you, there is no issue of defending yourself, because you will know that very well that you committed them. It is not an issue of defence that will save you, it is an issue of the Lords mercy. |

PEN_MIGHT: Believing in Omen-the 'good' or the 'bad' of takes one outside d pale of the deen. Luck derives its root from omen which in turn takes its basis from believing in the ability of something else to bring harm or benefit. So a muslim cannot be lucky(in reference to luck) but can only be fortunate( in reference to Allah's Qadar). Generational curse? I will like to look at it from another perspective. Though Allah said ' No carrier of burden shall carry the burden of others' , however there is no gain saying that the actions and inactions of parents 'may' take its toll on generations of their offspring. Take for instance the Prayer of IBRAHIM(as) asking Allaah to bless his generations to come. Also,Allaah curses the Jews-their generations of yesterday, today and tommorow. When Maryam brought an inexplicable child, they were quick to relate her to her parents way saying- " your mother is not an unchaste woman neither is ur father of questionable piety". Lastly, the orphans in Suratul Kahf( Moses and Khidr ), it was d generational prayer (some scholars says 10 generations) of their grand parent that khidr fufilled. Allaah knows best but I think d blessings, curses of generation can find its way to later generations EXCEPT ALLAAH WISHES OTHERWISE. Whatever He wishes,he does. Allaah knows and we do not know!@PEN_MIGHT; the bolded is very apt. In fact the verse exactly states that: ...And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord... Surah Kahf v82. So i will say that generational curse or blessings could actually exist. But, you'll have to fit the "description" of those to fall within the bracket. For example, the curse on the Jews is only to those among them who disbelieve... so the verse states: "...Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed." ...Surah Maa'idah v 78. Same goes for blessings; though Ibrahim (AS) invoked blessings for his offsprings, all the Arabs and Jews are his offsprings, but the blessings only covered those who believed among them (or are still believing). Although there is another subset of blessing, that he asked for, and Allah promised to give the believing and non-belieing dwellers of Makkah...etc @OP: what do you mean by bad - luck or good - luck? do you mean bad omen? if its bad omen, the quote above and what others have stated is true. In fact, some of the disbelievers believed in this as regards some of the prophets: ...'They said, "We consider you a bad omen, you and those with you." He said, "Your omen is with Allah. Rather, you are a people being tested."'...Sura Naml v 47. Allah knows best and may we be granted all the blessings of Allah and protected from His curses. |
maclatunji: I do believe you are applying this hadith out of context. Yes, a women should bear her father's name after marriage but to imply that those who don't are seen as "cursed" under Islamic jurisprudence is stretching the imagination a bit.Yes, i think there is the need to avoid extremism and always adopt a middle ground. Islam may have a default position on a subject, but then there is always the room for "exceptions" in stringent conditions. 1. Today we have found the widespread practice of women adopting their husbands names and therefore we need to be careful about condemning them to the wrath of God, either because such people may be ignorant or because they may be forced due to prevailing circumstances. I have seen many situations where a woman would be denied travelling with her family because they bear different surnames. 2. people need to be slowly enlightened about the issues. The important thing is not to confuse herself or others about her lineage. If there is no fear of this happening, then we may give such people an "excuse", and not be too quick to judge them. for example, someone mentioned on this thread, the difference in usage between Miss and Mrs, one shows clearly that she is the wife of the intended while the other shows she is not. MOreover, most documents these days clearly ask women to state their Maiden names in addition to surname, because they understand surname may not necssarily mean the fathers name. (Actually the word "surname" has both meanings and hence its confusing in itself) Lastly giving verdicts is not an easy job and we should be careful the way we give it |
I think we also need to understand that your LINEAGE is a fundamental right in islam, so any Islamic leadership/government needs to protect your lineage. Hence, we will observe that anything that could confuse your lineage is either outrightly prohibited or stringly discouraged, for example, change of surnames (fdor women and adopted chiildren), extra-marital sex, homosexuality etc. We need to understand that the family is an important unit and must be protected and every individual must know his rights and responsibilities. Also, a confused lineage will have serious effects on who the person can or cannot marry, inheritance etc |
21-year-old Nigerian hangs himself in UK over fear of deportation Riliwanu Balogan was found hanged at Glen Parva Young Offender’s Institute in Leicester in 2011, a day after his 21st birthday. The inquest heard he had told staff he had nothing to live for. The hearing coincided with the release of a report which said the centre had improved but there were still problems. The jury inquest, which finished Thursday, January 24, 2013, heard Mr Balogan moved to the UK when he was seven-years-old and spent much of his childhood in institutions. He was transferred to Glen Parva, which holds men aged 18 to 21, in April 2011 to await deportation. The morning he was found hanged on 8 May 2011 he was assessed by staff after cutting himself. Paul Mayfield, a senior prison officer, said at the hearing: “He told me he had nothing to live for. He said ‘I’ll be deported back to Nigeria. I’ve got no-one back there. I’ll be living in the slums.” He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary after staff tried to revive him but died a week later. The hearing also heard he had a string of previous convictions and that at the end of April he struggled to speak to a nurse because he was sobbing so hard. An interim report by the Inspectorate of Prisons showed the institute was “making sufficient progress” since its last inspection in 2009. Inspectors, who visited after Mr Balogan’s death, said they were pleased to see improvements in the management of vulnerable prisoners and that suicide and self-harm was “generally well-managed”. But concerns were raised over dirty accommodation and the limited amount of time detainees spent outside their cells. On Thursday, the jury recorded a verdict of misadventure. http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/01/26/21-year-old-nigerian-hangs-himself-in-uk-over-fear-of-deportation/ |
An Indonesian judge by the name of Marzuki was sitting in judgment of an old lady who pleaded guilty of stealing some tapioca from a plantation. In her defense, she admitted to the judge that she was indeed guilty of the crime because she was poor and her son was sick while her grandchild was hungry. The plantation manager insisted that she be punished as a deterrent to others. The judge going through the documents then looked up and said to the old lady, “I’m sorry but I cannot make any exception to the law and you must be punished.” The old lady was fined Rp. 1 million (USD 100) and if she could not pay the fine then she will be jailed for 2 and a half years as demanded by the law. She wept as she could not pay the fine. The judge then took off his hat and put in Rp. 1 million into the hat and said “In the name of justice, I fined all who are in the court Rp. 50 thousand (USD 5.50) as dwellers of this city and letting a child to starve until her grandmother have to steal to feed her grandchild. The registrar will now collect the fines from all the accused.” The court managed to collect Rp 3.5 million (USD 200) whereby once the fine was paid off, the rest was given to the old lady … .including the fine collected from the plantation manager. http://malaysianfirstlast..co.uk/2012/09/when-justice-is-tempered-with-mercy.html |

Interesting |
@OP, What is the range of RPM for your motor. I know you said you needed a low RPM motor, but what range would you term as low RPM for your project. I'm not familliar with the exact thing you want to achieve but may be able to help sourcing for the motor. Best of luck |
chioma134: Primary mortgage institutions usually have their own housing projects, and u can only benefit if u're buying from them. The loan processing is shorter as approval is easier. NHF loan does not fund land acquisition, but houses,so if u don't have an allocation letter for a house and can't prove the existence of the house, you're on your own. U can access a maximum of 15 million, and u must have equity contribution(30% of the cost of the house) in ur mortgage account b4 the loan can be accessed. Of course, there has to be a way for the bank to collect monthly deductions, hence the request for salary accounts to be domiciled with them, unless they have an arrangement with ur employers to deduct from source. The loan cannot be given to you,but will be paid to the property developer handling ur project.ofcourse many other people are currently in the process of getting one. Infact, someone stated he has been "in the process since 2006". Wait till you actually see the money in your bank account before you start praising the scheme. |
sadyeek: [size=16pt]the real question is, are the people in position to fight it willing to? With the enormous money going into defence budget, its good enough reason for the selfish politicians to try to keep this going..that report was not from elrufai but by some guy called @kakakyari asking elrufai. elrufai just retweeted the question. |
