EducationRe: Nigeria Gets Seven New Private Universities by messiah(m): 4:06pm On Oct 22, 2009
POSAKOSA1:
Im not saying that education is not needed in the north. If you can find investors willing to take the risk, the let it be. Im just providing an explanation for why Private UNIs have not been built there.
It might interest you to know that ABTI university is a private university located in Yola, Adamawa state.
And Adamawa state is located in the North.
EducationRe: Nigeria Gets Seven New Private Universities by messiah(m): 4:04pm On Oct 22, 2009
and what are we gonna do with the tonnes of "half-baked"graduates extruded from these unis?
in developed countries, the demand in the labour force pushes for the establishment of new unis. the real deal is not in opening new unis, rather it's in providing job opportunities to absorb their (the unis) products. do we ever learn?
GamingRe: Infoseye PSP Help, Tips, Tutorials & Guide Thread by messiah(m): 2:17pm On Oct 06, 2009
Back in the days when I had my PSP, I did all sorts of stuff with it. From installing (& continuously upgrading my) CFW, homebrews, to unbricking (my many times) bricked PSP! (Un)fortunately, I later gave the PSP to my little cousin sad. At a point, I had over 100 ISOs and CSOs!
Anyway, I think it will be only fair if the OP paid some tribute to DarkAlex, the warlord of the PSP world!
Oh, memories, !

There can be another Obama, another Oprah or even another World War, but there can NEVER be another Micheal Jackson.

FamilyRe: How Can A Woman Understand Her Husband After Wedding? by messiah(m): 1:52pm On Jun 21, 2009
Courtship is a period of deception where each partner puts up a facade in order to impress the other thereby masking the true fact that they're just humans.

dan iska or dan banza are used interchangeably to mean bastard. even a small boy that speaks Hausa knows that.
however, friends use it informally to tease one another. i guess it depends on how serious or playfully a person says it.

PoliticsRe: American Gala Seller Responds! by messiah(m): 6:17am On Jun 20, 2009
@ Poster,
I'm from the Northern part of Nigeria (in case you didn't know, most Nigerians are regionalists-a remnant of the colonial masters, and thus call ourselves Northerners, Southerners etc.) and contrary to popular belief, there are less street hawkers in any of the Northern States than there are in Lagos.
You can extend your research into this (shameful? huh) business by taking another case study, say in Kano, if you have the resources and time to do so. Believe me, you will gain another experience in the street hawking business altogether. No doubt, this can add some spice to your research and will make it more encompassing.
I will be very grateful if after the presentation of your research analysis to the American Embassy, you also present to some of the Nigerian agencies related to these activities. I know (and you probably know too) that they (the Nigerian agencies) would not do anything about it. But it won't hurt to report to them one of two things about your findings. I'm interested in your result, and it would be a privilege if you pop in here any time soon to give us a summary about it. I wish you the best. wink

Abuzola:
Phemour why do use extremist for hausa, am not happy about it
Thank you Abuzola. You spoke my mind. I initially wanted to contribute to this interesting and educative thread, but was immediately pissed off by Phemour's words. I'm disappointed in you. And you're even one of the moderators. Mshwww. cry

P.S: All the Hausa translations are ridiculous, with the exception of Sarauniya's.
For those interested, Sarauniya= Princess in Hausa. grin

PoliticsRe: What Exactly Is Nigeria's Population? by messiah(m): 11:47am On Jun 14, 2009
As long as our leaders politicise everything and the masses attach sentiment to trivial things, we can never know the real figure.
I don't know why the Southerners just can't believe the Northerners outnumber them. Hmm, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

PoliticsRe: 5 Greatest Living Nigerians by messiah(m): 7:12pm On May 15, 2009
Great in which way? This wasn't so specific. But if by "great", you meant being famous and bringing pride and happiness  to common Nigerians (albeit momentarily), then from this shameful list, I'll choose Nwanko Kanu!
Granted that Nigerians put sentiment in whatever they do (I can bet my salary no Muslim chose the revered Pastor), one can't help but question the reliability of such a poll. (BTW, why was it conducted across Lagos only? angry)
Nothing unites Nigerians in these tough days more than the (then) performance of the national soccer team (which is sadly also crumpling). And Kanu has ,many times, being the cornerstone of that team. His name has resonated in all Nigerian homes ever since the mid 90s. One could hear the cheers and roars from one's home whenever he scored a goal or was about to be put on the field of play. For a country full of hopeless and helpless citizenry, this is what I call "greatness"!
FamilyRe: My Husband And Family Don't Like Each Other by messiah(m): 11:26am On May 13, 2009
I have never been an advocate of interracial marriages, and never will be. They've got so many problems attached to them. If you weigh these problems, you will realise they're more than what you stand to benefit from these kinds of marriages anyway.
Statistically, and like Hollywood marriages, they're bound to fail sooner or later. Only few survive and surmount  the enormous troubles associated with them.
Some of these problems, and in no way exhaustive are : clash of cultures, religious beliefs (these are getting less popular as more and more people are becoming secular nowadays, undecided), problems in family integration, societal rejection and ostracization, enormous sacrifices from both partners. The list could go on. Yet, the "victims" of such marriages, the children, and unfairly so, get to inherit the biggest chunk of the problems:They lose their identity amidst their peers and the society they live in.
Interracial marriage, more than anything, perfectly underscores the old adage of "look before you leap."
Well, as the popular Hollywood phrase goes, you can file for divorce based on unreconcilable differences. lipsrsealed
Now, on serious note, you ought to ask yourself this single important question. Is your love strong enough for him to overshadow the the heartache he causes you  and the disrespect he accords to your parents?
Most often, when a man starts behaving this way, he's no more interested in neither the marriage nor the wife. Cruel and sad, but true. cry

We shouldn't castigate the poster for starting this thread. He's merely pointing out what we all know. This's of the very few threads that's making this place interesting.
ComputersRe: Sony Makes The Best Laptops by messiah(m): 7:42pm On Jan 01, 2009
The creator of this poll made a terrible oversight. Sony doesn't make the best laptops, but Apple. Check the polls again.
I'll take an Apple MacBook anytime! The best laptops ever made.
