PoliticsRe: Bomb Blast At Shalom Church, Trikania , Kaduna by messiah(m): 12:47am On Jun 18, 2012
The latest bombings can be easily explained. There was some heat on Otedola and his superiors who diverted attention to Faruk Lawan by exposing the corruption in his. Faruk on the otherhand had to solicit the services of BH or some other people under the guise of BH to ease off the heat on him. And thus these bombings.

CareerRe: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by messiah(m): 6:34pm On Feb 29, 2012
@beneli,
Thank you once again for such a prompt and detailed response. It was highly informative and very useful. To be honest, I've never been the type interested in practising in the UK. I'd rather go to Sweden for example, take the trouble to learn the language, and practice there for some time. I just lately started asking questions about the UK because many of the consultants that bothered to forget about their junior doctors for once and paid any attention to us (medical students) had some training there and paid glowing tributes to it. Most likely, they never saw other parts of Western Europe and thus don't know that UK isn't the only country w/ an outstanding health care system.
Anyway, my heart has always been w/ the US albeit w/ it's complex health care system and all. I've already started preparing for the USMLE step 1. In fact, I own a couple of preparatory materials [the so-called Board Review Series (BRS) and High-Yield (HY) books]. I also have some Kaplan videos. I've heard of Dr Najeeb before and I've watched a couple of his free lectures on youtube. However, I wanna restrict my preparatory materials to a few. More like talking about quality than quantity.
I had thought that considering the UK might open more options for me, but obviously that seems unlikely.
I don't think having your email is necessary anymore looking at the way you promptly replied. In fact, I prefer it this way as other people can learn a lot from your posts.
I've bookmarked this page for future reference and also to make it easier for me to posts questions that I may have. Hopefully, one day you won't complain about the tonnes of questions I'd be asking you smiley
Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day.

@beneli,
Words cannot express how helpful you have been on this forum. I have particularly found your posts highly informative. Through them, I know stuffs I didn't know before. Keep it up!
If you don't mind, I have a few questions I'd like to ask about that relate to my career path. Currently, I'm about to finish my 4th year of medical school (4th of 6 years) and hopefully looking forward to graduating w/ an EU-approved MD degree. I am a very patriotic Nigerian and would love to practice back home. But unfortunately, whenever I go back for summer clinical hands-on practice, my disdain for our poorly-equipped hospitals (at least in the North where I live) grows. And the conditions in which the medical team works is, to put it lightly, appalling! So, I've decided not to go back home immediately until I've tried other countries for better exposure during my residency and early medical career. I'm aware of the requirement for getting a place in the UK (PLAB) and the USA (USMLE steps 1-3) and USA is atop my list now. But I have other back-ups like Germany, Sweden etc (I'm also aware of their language requirements). (Recruitment agencies actually come to our school promising us heaven on earth should we decide to work in Western Europe, albeit w/ the language deficit)
For someone w/ a wealth of exposure I'd be very grateful if you could give answers to these questions that are bugging me:
1. On a scale of 1-10, w/ 10 being an absolute guarantee, what are my chances of getting into a residency into the UK immediately I finish from here, assuming I fulfill all requirements (PLAB etc). I'm a bit jittery cuz I have friends here w/ a UK passport but even they complain of how competitive the UK has lately been.
2. The same for USA, let's say I get 240+ in the USMLEs (wishful thinking!)
3. Would you advise someone like me to even consider going to the UK? I hear getting in there is becoming harder by the day. (I neither have a UK or an EU passport)
4. Do you think or know of any NGOs that are interested in residents?
5. I have not decided on where I want to specialise yet. But so far I'm considering a specialisation in internal medicine.( I may change my mind later though, Lol wink)
Any help would be highly appreciated. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you so much.
P.S: Is it possible to get your email so that I can ask other questions I may have? I will understand if you don't want to and respect your privacy. Even communication here can help others that may have similar questions.

GamingRe: Whats Ur Best Game On Ps3 by messiah(m): 12:11pm On Dec 04, 2011
It's probably unfair to just ask for one's best game on the PS3 console, as there are a slew of out-of-the-world awesome games! A more appropriate question, IMO, should've been about one's  most favourite games and also if just PS3 exclusive or multi-platform games.
However, for now, I'll just mention my best PS3 exclusive games in no particular order:
Uncharted (1, 2 and 3), God of War 3, Mod Nation Racers, Infamous 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5,Killzone 1, 2 and 3,Resitance 1,2 and 3 and Final Fantasy XIII (used to be a PS3 exclusive.)
Any decent PS3 owner worth their salt have either played or own these games smiley

BusinessRe: Video Game Business In Lagos by messiah(m): 11:44am On Aug 28, 2010
@ poster
very commendable initiative. i admire that. most of the things i have to say have been said by others on here. it sounds like your business is booming in SA. so, why don't you come down to lagos and see the terrain for yourself. besides, you lived there before didn't you?
now i dunno what made you decided to come back to nigeria (not surprisingly though since it's coming at the wake of reports of attacks targeted at nigerians by south africans ), but i'll advice you to think twice about your decision. you might think of just setting up a branch of your franchise over here to be run by a competent and trusted ally. (that's if those persons still exist in nigeria sad)
ok, let's say everything turns out well and you get to come back. have you thought about continuous power supply? surely a business like yours depends on power. think about the qualitative generator set you have to buy and the cost of fuel. what about pilferage? do you still remember how rowdy lagos kids are? esp. the ones that will frequent your "joint".
again, let's say you get a good generator set, how about stabilizers and mini transformers. being a tech savvy guy, i'm sure you know the damaging effects of power surges on electronics (esp. game consoles!)
i myself own a PS3 and my brother and friends own an XBOX 360. my brother uses his in nigeria and never for once connected it directly to the main power source. it's always connected to a capacitor/ups.
on a side note, i'm curious as to how you wanna sell the consoles at a cheap price of about $60. a brand new PS3 slim or the new XBOX360 slim costs $300! i can only imagine a fairly used console to cost about half or at least a third of that price!
also, how can you claim to know hackers that can get new unreleased games. i have Dead Space and the release date for the Dead Space 2 is a distant Jan 25 next year. even if you do get it now, it might be full of bugs! anyway, i'm not refuting your claim. i know what nigerians are capable of!
good luck with whatever decision you take.

an avid gamer like you!

CareerRe: Highest Paid Professionals And Most Lucrative Profession In Nigeria by messiah(m): 4:03pm On Jun 10, 2010
The OP's emphasis was on LUCRATIVE. It's easy and the good thing is you don't have to go the university! But it takes a lot of balls and doggedness.
Start from a political thug, kiss politicians & godfathers' asses. Slowly make your way through by selling your soul to PDP stalwarts. Be at their behest. And WOAH, you'll get in. The least you would get, and that's if you're not so lucky and depending on your commitment, you end up a Chairman/person of your LGA.
Even at that, I dare you, what's more lucrative than that?

I hope the guys over here that are willing to help realize early enough that they're falling for the oldest scam in the books. His well-scripted story seems like something directly lifted from a typical Nigerian rag-to-riches movie. Sure enough, he has earned your sympathy and possibly already re-affirmed your resolve to help. But knowing what Nigerians are capable of, it'll be no surprise to me if anyone of you guys come lamenting later.
A word is sure enough for the wise.

PoliticsRe: Constant Power Supply? Whats The Cause? by messiah(m): 4:48pm On Mar 25, 2010
There was this one time in Kaduna when we had uninterrupted power supply for about 4 whole days. During that miraculous time I visited my barber. As our discussion grew, we hit on the issue of the uninterrupted power supply, especially since his business and means of livelihood depended on it. I asked what he made of it and he replied, "because of the continuous power supply, I got sick!" A lot of Nigerians now cannot remember when last they had uninterrupted power supply exceeding 3 or 4 days. I'm glad to hear things have started changing now, albeit a short time.

Happy birthday to the self-styled Father of Modern Nigeria!
But out of curiosity, does anyone really know his real age? Even the not-so-realiable-yet-official Wikipedia puts circa before his "date of birth." If he's really 73, then he sure doesn't look like it! More like an octogenarian!

For those claiming that Lagos is not the capital of Nigeria, Vancouver (the most livable city in the world is NOT the capital of Canada either). Quit your petulance & thank your stars Lagos wasn't rated the 1st worst livable city, where it rightly belongs.
Propaganda, vilification or whatever, we can't prove them wrong.

GamingRe: Need A Slim Ps3 by messiah(m): 3:09pm On Jan 14, 2010
PS3 slim just came out 1st September, I should be wary of anybody who wants to sell it at any price less than 50K to me.
Even in the USA, it costs $300 (convert that to Naira) and here in Europe it costs 300Euros.
It's too early for anyone to sell it, even if fairly used, at less than 50K.
Try to save some money to buy a new one, it would be worth it.

PoliticsRe: Why Are Nigerians Such Big Cowards? by messiah(m): 4:12pm On Jan 12, 2010
Dear OP,
You have to be a Nigerian, or have resided in Nigeria for a very long time to understand why such "uprisings" or "revolutions" would never likely happen(at least in the near future) in this great country. There are many factors at play mitigating against that-diverse cultural background, religious and ethnic intolerance, poverty, wanton oppression, very selfish leaders united in the crime of indiscriminate looting and of course, the sheer cowardice of the average Nigerian man-just to mention a few. Naturally, a people look over their differences to unite against a common enemy, but not Nigerians. The colonial masters used a very uncanny way to rule us, and overtly or covertly passed it on to our native leaders. It'll take a lot to beat that time-tested method.
Like I said, you have to be a Nigerian to understand why, well, as you put it, Nigerians are such big cowards. sad
