Correct sentiment but wrong argument for shared nationality. I have best friends in every tribe in Nigeria and beyond, yet I want a separate country from them all. Not sharing same country with your best friend does not sever a friendship built on trust and fraternity. If everybody would share same country with persons they are best of friends with the whole globe will be one country. This sentiment is personal, it will not count in Yoruba resolve to stand alone, at best, as a separate region from rest.....and at worst, as a separate nation altogether. Bode George in Odua Nation will still be best friend with Murtala Nyako in Adamawa Nation. Trust me! |
You will notice that the Attorney Generals from each state are involved. Also, they retained Constitution Lawyers and International Law & Trade experts and had them go through the proposed laws for uniformity and acceptance. In addition to the internal security question, the Bill is expected to also address economic security and its value to foreign investors under Amotekun. As they said, the security will be total. One of the pains for investors is yahoo crime. Amotekun is also expected to engage in surveillance and cyber-security, long term. Its immediate focus is physical and territorial security. So if you notice delays it is because of the volume of work and the depth of experts engaged poring through volumes of statutes and legal records, domestic and international. |
Ekiti already passed its Bill but open for amendment if major gaps are found following Wednesday deliberations. |
The stage was set on Sunday night for the resumption of legislative works on the bill seeking to establish Amotekun Corps in the six Southwest states. Lawmakers in Osun, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo states will be finalising the process beginning from today. Speakers and Attorneys-Generals of the states met in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where they made observations, suggestions and cleared conflicting areas identified during the public hearings conducted by the states last week Monday. They did a clause-by-clause deliberation on the issues raised at the public hearings that held simultaneously in the states. At the meeting were Speakers Adebo Ogundoyin (Oyo), Timothy Owoeye (Osun), Bamidele David Oleyelogun (Ondo), Mudashiru Obasa (Lagos), Funminiyi Afuye (Ekiti) and Olakunle Oluomo (Ogun). The speakers adopted a uniform law for the security outfit to ensure uniformity and ease of regional cooperation on training, equipment and intelligence sharing. It was learnt on Sunday that the Oyo State House of Assembly will tomorrow (Tuesday) pass into law the bill backing the establishment of the Oyo State Amotekun Corps. The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Kazeem Olayanju, told The Nation that the bill, which has passed through Second Reading, will be passed into law at tomorrow’s plenary. A source in the Assembly revealed that the request by Miyetti Allah to have its members recruited into the outfit was not accommodated in the bill to be passed. The group made up of herdsmen, had during the public hearing requested that its members be recruited along with others into the security outfit. The request was contained in its memorandum to the public hearing committee in Ibadan, the state capital last week. In Lagos, the Tunde Braimoh-led Committee on Information, Strategy and Security of the Lagos State House of Assembly will tomorrow present its report on the proposed amendment to the Neighbourhood Safety Corp Agency Law 2019 at plenary. The law is being amended to create Amotekun Corps in line with the region’s effort to tackle rising crime waves such as kidnapping for ransom, killings, robbery and banditry. The House suspended its recess two weeks ago to consider an executive bill sent to it. Information revealed that the House is resuming plenary tomorrow at 12noon. According to the notice sent out to lawmakers and legislative staff, the bill will be laid and presented by the committee. The notice reads: “At the plenary, the House shall consider laying and presentation of report on a bill for a law to amend the Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency Bill, 2020.” Also in Akure, the Ondo State House of Assembly will tomorrow pass the Amotekun Corps’ Bill. According to the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Gbenga Omole, the lawmakers had done what was required by organising a public hearing after cutting short their recess last week. Omole said the lawmakers are ready to pass the bill tomorrow like their counterparts in other Southwest states. The bill on the Osun State Security Network and Amotekun Corps will be passed into law on or before Wednesday, Speaker Timothy Owoeye told The Nation on Sunday night. He told our reporter that he and his colleagues will resume legislative work on the constitution of the bill from today. Owoeye said: “From tomorrow (today), we will start considering the suggestions and recommendations of individuals and groups from the public hearing. By Wednesday latest, we will pass the bill and send to the governor for his assent. Barring the unforeseen, the Amotekun Bill will be passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly tomorrow, Speaker Kunle Oluomo assured last night. In a telephone chat with The Nation, Oluomo said: “The bill having concluded the public hearing on the bill a week ago, and the document gone through reconciliation and harmonisation in Ibadan by all the Southwest Speakers, Majority Leaders and attorneys-general among others, it was resolved that each state Assembly should pass the Bill into law on Tuesday (tomorrow). He added: “When it is eventually passed by the Assembly and eventually signed into law by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the bill would be translated into indigenous languages for easy understanding so that essence of it will be felt by all even in remote area of the state. The speaker reiterated the bill’s importance to protect the overall wellbeing of residents and investors in the state, emphasising that intelligence gathering remained the fulcrum of any effective security outfit. https://thenationonlineng.net/amotekun-bill-returns-for-passage-wednesday/ |
There is no statute anywhere in Nigerian Constitution that exclusively or implicitly prohibits regional cooperation and cultural identity as basis for institutionalized social projects. |
On matters of regional operation and its legality, it will be Amotekun vs the Constitution. On the political impact of Amotekun operating a regional force, the Northerners are opposed to it because it was not first thought and implemented in their region. If they had implemented Shege ka fasa as regional outfit Amotekun would have been accepted as a normal. Yoruba will operate Amotekun as a regional security and it would be a normal for the country. Any dissenter should get a lawyer ready for court. |
Who is Opeyemi Abidemi's next of kin? Get in touch. The girl should be freed. Yoruba do not beat their elders. There is more to the story, Yoruba culture can be used as character witness in her favor. First, the story must be rebuilt since the other party is not present to speak. If anyone know her next of kin tell them to contact me here. |
double0seven:Who they kidnapped is irrelevant. They confessed to the crime and they are caught with an unlicensed gun. |
PDJT:They were not caught by Amotekun. It is clearly stamped in title....Yoruba Vigilante! |
PDJT:To prove relevance, effective strategy & sustainability. Fulani was kidnapping in Jul 2019....we are in March 2020, why are you still kidnapping for God's sake? |
Auction some cars and pay bills |
oyatz:Before Amotekun, genuine fulani herders were given that task - fish out the bad eggs amongst you. The problem was not this desperate and they could have accomplished the task if truly they were genuine. But they failed....so we cannot give that task to failures again. Fayose, Ajimobi, Aregbesola, they met miyetti and demanded they police their people. They failed! |

The media house that sent that interviewer wasted opportunity. This person should be used to interview secondary school students, not political and military assets like Col. Togun. It was evident the Col felt irritated with the questions. Very simplistic and unchallenging. |

What Kanu said was if CP Okon dared to kill any Ipob attending the burial Okon's children will be fair game of attack and retaliation. He never apologized...he counter-threatened Okon. Kanu, a proud Biafran....a mighty Lion of Afaraukwu that refused to be eaten alive by python will apologize to an ordinary CP? E no fit happen, no be for inside this zoo. They say seeing is believing, Oya now show me the doggone letter.... ![]() |
Wickedfacts:I have saved that video for posterity. Thats funny. A fulani boy outmaneuvered and disarmed an Igbo warrior..... How is it to be said that a Biafran warrior....the inventor of ogbunigwe......yielded his phone to a filthy fulani cow herder who repetaedly told him over and over, thanda faya his madda. That boy dispossessed the Biafran of his manhood right there! Ohanaeze need to find that Iboman and banish him from village. Thats a bad omen for Iboland....the land of warriors, those who fought Nigeria, Britain and Russia to a standstill for 36months. An ordinary cow herder disgraced him in public like that and bossed over him. This is big shame! |
Racoon:When Southerners build house and employ a Northerner to provide him security, it reinforces their belief that without them Southerners are insecured. So when we talk of protection for our regional house, naturally they did not see anything wrong in being chosen to be the maiguard of SW. ![]() |
Its a miracle that bridge had not been shut down long ago and rebuilt. It has lost almost all its original railings and the few left are rusted beyond recovery. Traffic on the bridge is heavy. Almost every structure in its vicinity built around same time have had facelift except the bridge itself. Federal Palace Hotel, Bonny Camp Jetty, King George Stadium, Governor's Mansion and so on..... The bridge needs a new construction, period! |
The demand by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria(MACBAN) to participate in the operations of the South West regional security network, Amotekun, has been turned down by the Houses of Assembly of the respective states. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the houses of assembly of the states had concluded work on the bill after the public hearings without making any input to give MACBAN a place. At the moment, Ekiti State has passed the bill, even though a meeting of speakers of the respective houses held in Ibadan on Thursday to harmonise the positions of the respective states. The necessity of the harmonisation arose from the different public hearings held across the states to get inputs from the different stakeholders and citizens of the state. During one of the public hearings organised by the Oyo State House of Assembly, MACBAN expressed its support for the establishment of the security outfit, but proposed that it should have its members participate in the Amotekun corps. A former chairman of the association in Oyo State, Yaqub Bello, who spoke on behalf of MACBAN at the public hearing by the Oyo State House of Assembly, had expressed the support of the association to the Amotekun initiative, noting that only haters of truth would oppose the initiative. “Some of us have been in Oyo State for over 40 years, cohabiting with the natives, married Yoruba women and have children,” Mr Bello. “So, our request is to include Miyetti Allah as members of Operation Amotekun to enhance the job of the outfit, since we know the terrain of where we rear our cattle. “Having Fulani among the outfit will make it easier for Amotekun men to distinguish between genuine herdsmen and the criminals while on patrol. “A Fulani man can also serve as an interpreter while interrogating any suspected herdsman,” Mr Bello said. He admitted that the major objective of the initiative was to curb criminal activities in the society and not to witch hunt any particular body or ethnic group. He described his members as law abiding, adding that none of them had been involved in any form of criminality. He said, instead, his members had been carrying out their legitimate businesses, which is cattle rearing. The chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Olayanju Qozeem, told PREMIUM TIMES that the request was not even considered in the final analysis. “No, capital no,” was his response to PREMIUM TIMES inquiries whether the House had given consideration to the request by MACBAN. Also the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Yemisi Ayokunle, said the house found no place for the request. “We are not thinking in that line at all,” he said. “There is a bill and it did not include Miyetti Allah or whoever.” Mr Oyokunle noted that Amotekun was meant for the south west citizens and would remain so following content of the bill passed by the house. “Wherever the Miyetti Allah is coming from, its tribe is not included there, so we are not thinking in this line at all,” the lawmaker said. “We have done all it takes, we have passed it into law and there is no Miyetti Allah in our bill which has been passed into law. “It is now for the governor to sign it into law. We have not heard and we are not interested in listening to that or reacting to that. It is not our business at all. Anybody is entitled to say anything. “There is freedom of speech, probably that is what they are exercising but that is not included in the bill.” He argued that what the bill specifies was that whoever would be a member of Amotekun would be a native of that area where he is going to work as an Amotekun person. “He must be a native of that place who knows the nooks and crannies of that area,” Mr Ayokunle said. The Osun State House of Assembly said MACBAN did not make such submission to it and so had no reason to deliberate on it. The press secretary to the Speaker of the House, Kunle Alabi, told PREMIUM TIMES that the bill however, was silent on including non-indigenes, but there could be a case where a person who had lived in a community for a very long time, could be trusted with such responsibilities, even if he is not an indigene of the south west region. However, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in a recent tweet, condemned the proposal by Miyetti Allah’s leadership for the inclusion of its members in Amotekun. In a recent post on his twitter page, @realFFK, he said such inclusion would amount to “recruiting demonds into an army of angels.” “Recruiting Miyetti Allah into Amotekun is like recruiting hyenas into an army of lions,” said Mr Fani-Kayode. “It’s like recruiting vultures into an army of eagles. It’s like recruiting sharks into an army of dolphins. “It’s like recruiting Nazis into the Israeli Defence Force. It’s like recruiting the Ku Klux Klan into the ranks of the Black Panthers. It’s like recruiting Hutus into an Army of Tutsis. It’s like recruiting the white Boers into Nelson Mandela’s ANC.” The bill is yet to be passed by five of the six houses of assembly, but could be passed next week following a conclusion of harmonisation done by the speakers in Ibadan on Thursday. A meeting of Attorneys General of the states is expected to hold before a final passage is done and the signing of the documents by the state governors. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/379492-south-west-houses-of-assembly-reject-miyetti-allahs-request-to-join-amotekun.html |

Good news, and great job to the Woman leader and her vigilante. Fulani banditry will perish if every victim community counter-attack. |
DCmonster:Thats why the media coverage and booking is important. The Baale will get a copy of the arrest entry. It establishes a legal ground for followup. |

Roadtoyesterday:Vigilante saw them in the forest and chased after them. Their leader escaped but they got these two, arrested and tied them and brought them back to town to the Baale. The Baale called news media to come with their equipments and cover them. Before that he called Army to come and book and take them away. He was on the phone giving update to the King that he would be late for council meeting because he had to wait to make sure Army book them and take them away. The vigilante had reinforced and returned to the forest to track and arrest the leader as well. Meanwhile, the one with gun round his neck has confessed and admitted that they are kidnappers and herdsmen. Who they kidnapped is immaterial, they are criminals and violated several laws. That gun around his neck is evidence of crime. |

benjanjo1:If you have not been getting spot-on forecasts by yourself then I agree you do need help from these Church prophets. Almost everyone I know, and myself, get a hit on our forecasts, we have no need for a fraud. |
Esseite:You will agree Tanko has been careful in rulings that will impact SW.... Amotekun is between Western Nigeria and the Constitution. All the meetings we are entertaining are just formalities to meet people midway for political expediency. When it comes down to its legality it will be Amotekun vs Constitution. What Ibo is incapable of doing we will get done and open the gate for everyone to liberate. Thats what FG is afraid of and they are treading carefully because they dont want it to get to court. |
