https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/data/attachments/37/37331-f6f5f77b7d2518cd601cfa5f4a6eaaf4.jpg The Nigerian army has dismissed the recent audio recording purportedly of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. Last week, Chad's President Idriss Deby said Mr Shekau has been ousted as Boko Haram leader. Shekau in the audio had described as lies reports that he had been ousted as head of militant Islamist group Boko Haram, saying he's still alive and in control. Army spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman said it did not matter, at this stage, whether Mr Shekau was dead or alive. He said the military was focused on wiping out Boko Haram within three months to meet the deadline set by Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/nigerian-army-dismisses-shekaus-new.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |
The General Abubakar Abdulsalami-led Peace Committee continues to draw criticisms from Nigerians over its advice to President Muhammadu Buhari that he should follow the due process in prosecuting the war against corruption. In the latest attack, a coalition of human rights groups, known as Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens asked President Buhari to wind up the group, having in its view, outlived its usefulness. “It was set up on an ad-hoc basis and has fulfilled its terms of existence. The elections have been won and lost, there has been a transition to a new government which is in place”, said the group in a statement signed by its leader, Aisha Shehu, and which was submitted to President Buhari in Aso Rock today. Aisha had led protesters to Aso Rock, the presidential palace in Abuja today, demanding that President Buhari ignore pressure to abandon the war against corruption and instead step it up. “Corruption and impunity are killing us as a nation. These have manifested in a culture of stealing of our commonwealth, lack of accountability, abuse of office, indiscipline, and other forms of corruption. “By this march, we as concerned, patriotic citizens of Nigeria have come out in unison to say NO TO CORRUPTION. NO TO IMPUNITY. “We are encouraged and are indeed proud that by Mr President’s anti-corruption stance alone things are beginning to take shape. Our national honour, pride, dignity, and hope are being restored. This, within less than 3 months of stewardship. “Unfortunately however, we notice signs of pressure emerging from the enemies of our nation and her people to dissuade Mr President. “First, they claimed being “witch-hunted”. Now they suggest that Mr President should turn a blind eye to the monumental heist of our economy. To forgive and forget the mega looters of out treasury. Those who have caused us untold penury, pain and shame, and face “governance”. “We are vehemently opposed to this. By this anticorruption/anti-impunity solidarity march to the President, we make a bold statement that WE STAND WITH OUR PRESIDENT IN HIS ANTICORRUPTION/ANTI-IMPUNITY STANCE. The marchers reminded the President that Nigerians voted for change and are willing to go to any length to defend it. ” When we Nigerians voted for Change, we meant for Mr President to recover all our stolen wealth and jail all offenders through just and transparent processes. We meant for him to make the system work. To create for us a Nigeria which is a land of peace, prosperity, and equal opportunity for all ” We are united in one voice and are defying the narratives that divide us. That we are very angry, and are channelling our anger productively against corruption, impunity, mediocrity, divisions, poor governance, etc ” Whoever seeks, or even attempts to derail or impede our Change process through whatever means (however clever or subtle) would be setting themselves up against patriotic Nigerian citizens, and we shall not hesitate to demonstrate our unwavering resolve. While the group wants President Buhari to declare an all-out war against corruption, following due process, and mobilising Nigerians to support the war, it also wants the President and Vice President PUBLICLY declare their assets. “This generation of Nigerian citizens have confidence in our President, and his ability to deliver, and wholly support his administration. Mr President, please do not fail us. We are concerned because this may be the last opportunity to salvage our country after 55 years of independent nationhood.” http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/group-wants-abdulsalami-peace-committee.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

The attention of Peoples Democratic Party from the one hundred and eighteen (118) electoral Wards, and the seven (7) Local Government Areas that made up Anambra South Senatorial District of Anambra State has been drawn to reports in some media titled, “Anambra PDP sacks Metuh" and wish to state as follows; 1. That the said media reports about the purported suspension of Chief Olisa Metuh did not emanate from either Otolo Ward 1, or any of the Wards and LGA in Anambra South Senatorial District and not from PDP Anambra State, rather it was the handiwork of agents of All Progressive Congress (APC) in their desperate attempts to bring down at all cost the Leader of PDP in Anambra State, Chief Olisa Metuh. 2. That we challenge the authors of the fabricated stories about the purported suspension/sack of our Leader Chief Olisa Metuh from PDP, to publish the names and signatures of the elected PDP Ward, LGA and State officers that signed the false and malicious resolution. 3. That the position already taken by the Anambra State PDP captured in the resolution signed by all the PDP current and serving members of the National Assembly from Anambra State, the State Caucus and the State Executive Committee, as published on page 42 of Saturday SUN newspaper of August 8, 2015, and page 103 of Sunday THISDAY newspaper of August 9, 2015, respectively, whereby we the PDP Anambra State unanimously passed vote of implicit confidence on Chief Olisa Metuh, is irrevocable. 4. That we are not in any way surprised that the makers of the false and malicious media propaganda against our Leader Chief Olisa Metuh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) being a political party owned by one man and his agents, and not been a disciplined association grounded in constitutional issues and norms, are pitiably ignorant about the constitutional procedure for disciplinary action (if any) against the National Officer of PDP. 5. That no amount of blackmail, harassment and intimidation from the APC and their agents can deter and distract our Leader Chief Olisa Metuh, from the ongoing task of rebuilding, remobilization and repositioning of PDP to reclaim Anambra State in the forthcoming elections. 6. That we pledge our unreserved loyalty and support to the Chairman of PDP in Anambra State, Crown Prince Ken Emeakayi, the Leader of PDP in Anambra State, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Austin Akobundu, the Acting National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, and members of the National Working Committee of our great Party, the PDP. Relief came the way of anxious parents, guardians and students across the country on Wednesday as the West African Examination Council said it will release the results of the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate, WASSCE, that was earlier withheld due to indebtedness by the states within 24 hours. WAEC had withheld results of about 13 states which it said were yet to pay the examination fees of students from their states when it released the results of the other states on Monday. However, after a meeting between officials of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and officials of the examination body in Abuja on Wednesday, Charles Eguridu, Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, told journalists in Abuja the council has decided to listen to appeals to release the results, especially because affected candidates would need the results for admission purposes. Eguridu who said the Council realized that the default in payment of the examination fees by the states was because of the prevailing economic challenges facing the country said the results will be released in the next 24 hours. “Our decision to open this window of opportunity, that is the resort to advance payment guarantees for affected states, was as a result of our appreciation of the prevailing economic challenges facing the nation and in order not to jeopardise the educational progress of the candidates of the affected states. “However, following appeals from our stakeholders, including parents, the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of secondary Schools, notable Nigerians, other well -meaning citizens and most importantly, the intervention of secretariat of Nigeria governor’s Forum, which we have informed is on the directive of the chairman of the forum, governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, who has indicated that the forum will positively resolve the matter as soon as possible, we have decided to hearken to appeals and review our earlier position. “More so, the continued withholding of the results will adversely affect the educational prospects of the affected candidates for admission purposes. “Consequently, the management of the council has decided that the results of the candidates of indebted states would be released in deference to all the appeals and commitment of the NGF. “The results are, therefore, to be uploaded on our website in the next 24 hours. This decision is based on our wish not to impede the educational progress of any Nigerian child”. Eguridu who refused to mention the name of the indebted states however appealed for the payment of the examination debts which he said was necessary to ensure that the examination body meet its financial obligations to supervisors, examiners as well as service providers and other creditors. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/waec-to-release-results-of-students-in.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

Donald Duke said this in an interview with news magazine, The Interviewer "You don’t give authority to an unwilling person, particularly in a country like Nigeria. Umaru never wanted to be president. He was dealing with his health issues and wanted to retire and go lecture in a university. He was really offered an appointment at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Jonathan, on the other hand, had just been re-elected to be governor of Bayelsa and when he was picked, he was not so pleased. He said to Obasanjo and me, ‘I don’t want this job". If these two men never aspired to the office but were recruited to take on a responsibility as daunting as the management of Nigeria without mentally preparing for the office and having a grand vision of where they wanted to take Nigeria to, then there is a problem. The mental preparation is absolutely important. The vision can be scripted for you, but if you are not prepared and you have no capable team to help you follow through, it is grossly unfair. It is like converting a passenger on an aircraft to a pilot.” http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/jonathan-told-me-obasanjo-he-never.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

The people were repatriated on board a travelers vessel, which had 13 crew members and 71 Nigerians, while other nationalities included 128 Malians, 87 from Burkina Faso, 57 Senegalese, those from Guinea and Togo were 41 each. Of those repatriated, 21 came from Benin Republic, 9 from Ghana and only 3 were Gambia nationals. The alleged illegal migrants claimed that the Government of Garbon meted out inhuman treatment to some of them despite showing proof of travel and resident permits. One of the deportees from Oron Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Victor Elijah told newsmen in Calabar: “I spent my life in Gabon. All my business is in Gabon. I travel out of Gabon to Dubai; my son and my wife I left them there, even my car. As I speak with you here, I have my card; I have my papers, which shows that I’m a Nigerian-Gabone.” Kaaku, a 43 year old immigrant from Ghana, said “the authorities caught us and sent us back to our country. They kept us for days without food. Truly, we were apprehended because we did not have the relevant travel document. But, I left my child back there in Gabon.” “We travelled out of our country to find means of survival in Gabon. They asked us to do our paper, but we could not do the paper. So, they arrested us. They regard us as animals. They don’t want any stranger in Gabon. They just repatriated us like animals”, said another Ghanaian immigrant, Masa’audu Adamu, who was engaged in the car wash business. Transporting Migrants In an interview with some journalists at the Calabar Port in Cross River State, South of Nigeria, the Comptroller of Command, Mrs. Funke Adeuyi said the migrants were deported due to their inability to present a valid travel document. Mrs. Adeuyi said “usually migrants have three sources – country of source; country of transit and countries of origin. Probably, a lot of them left through the Calabar River, which is closer to Gabon and a great attraction to migrants. But, maybe the Gabonese Government does not have the funds to send them by air and resorted to send them on board a vessel ship, which is cheaper, so that they can transport them to their various countries”. According to the Cross River State Comptroller, transporting the migrants to their destinations or countries of origin was the sole responsibility of the Government of Gabon. “We have been in diplomatic relations with Gabon prior to the arrival of these migrants. The Gabonese Government took sole responsibility for their transport to Nigeria and from Nigeria to their various countries”, she stated. Colonel Moustapha Sarr, an attaché from the Senegalese Embassy in Nigeria, who was on ground to receive the deportees, said “we are here to receive our people. We are grateful to the Comptroller for the treatment given to our people. Nigeria has been kind to us and we are grateful for that. My country through the ministry of foreign affairs has made adequate arrangements to receive the migrants in Senegal”. 387 migrants would be leaving for their countries through Seme, the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, while 64 Nigerians will ease out through Jibia border in Katsina State and all of them would be conveyed from Calabar in a total of 10 buses. According to the Nigeria Immigration Service, the arrival of the migrants was the second time the NIS was receiving deportees from Gabon. In June 23, 2015, the first batch of 590 migrants were from the West African region. http://voiceofnigeria.org.ng/522-west-africans-repatriated-from-gabon/ |

Senior Special Assistant To President Muhammudu Buhari on Media and Publicity have asked Nigerians to ignore a recent report putting the total cost of President Muhammudu Buhari’s trip to the US at N2.2 billion, stating that the total figure is around N200 million. Read the press statement below Our attention has been drawn to an editorial published in the Nigerian Pilot of August 2, 2015 and an earlier report in which the total cost of President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent trip to the U.S. was estimated at N2.2 billion. It is very sad that in this age of free-flowing information and in this era of CHANGE, a media organisation would make itself available as a vehicle to peddle a lie of such low and ignominious quality. Contrary to the newspaper’s assertions, the total cost of the trip to the Nigerian taxpayer was at the most minimal, in line with the policy of this administration to cut waste and extravagance. In point of fact, the total amount expended on the trip by the Office of the President amounted to nothing near ten per cent of the speculated figure. Owing to the free accommodation provided by the host government, all the personal staff who accompanied the President on the trip received reduced allowances. His son, Yusuf, received neither allowances nor estacode. The five Governors on the trip each paid his own way. Permanent Secretaries who traveled on the delegation did so in accordance with extant rules and none of them exceeded their estacode entitlements. Apart from the Nigerian Pilot’s mischievous mathematics, it is shortsighted and misleading of the newspaper to have claimed that President Buhari’s trip to the U.S. achieved nothing. Nigerian-US relations had suffered severely over the past few years. That relationship has now been reset. The benefits of this symbiotic relationship will become more and more evident as the Buhari administration continues to tackle the challenges of corruption, security and the economy. Some of the more immediate benefits of the President’s trip to the U.S include: the proposed $2.1 billion fund from the World Bank for the re-development of the northeast battered by Boko Haram; $5 billion from US investors in Nigeria’s agriculture sector; $1.5 billion investment in the Nigerian health sector; and another $5 billion investment from the U.S. in our country’s power sector. Also, as things stand at the moment, the embargo on the sale of weapons sales to Nigeria is in the process of being removed. The trip to the U.S by President Buhari was definitely very successful and beneficial to Nigeria. Only those rabidly determined to find faults unnecessarily will cook up falsehood in a futile effort to rake up murk where none exists. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/buhari-didnt-spend-n22-billion-on-us.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |
President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged that his administration will take all necessary actions to maintain and improve the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as functional vehicle for the promotion of national unity and integration. Buhari gave the assurance after receiving briefing from officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, led by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Rabi Jimeta. The President affirmed his confidence and trust in the scheme, saying that the objective for which the scheme was established in 1973 was still very relevant for national development. He said: “I firmly believe in NYSC and I think it should remain a national programme to promote integration. “Whenever I go home to Daura, I look out for corps members from Lagos, Aba and other parts of the country. “I am always thrilled to learn that except for the NYSC, some of them have never left their states of origin to visit other cities in the country,.” Jimeta had informed the President that the increasing number of NYSC members was a challenge to the scheme due to dwindling revenue from the national budget to cater for their needs. She also told the President that the annual enrolement of corps participants had increased from 2,364 at inception in 1974 to 229,016 in 2014. She added that “Given the increasing number of tertiary institutions, our projection is that the number of participants may rise to 300,000 by year 2020.” The Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, also told the President that there were plans to make the scheme voluntary so as to reduce the corps population and sustain it.
