Politics / Re: Ijaw Leaders: Fashola Is Better Than Amaechi. Lambast Amaechi For His White Elephant Projects. by MIBB: 11:15am On Jul 11, 2011
when you say Fashola out perform Amaechi, you are either not familiar with the state or just shy to say the truth. You would have forgotten the laudable school projects that Ameachi turned around in three years, you would have forgotten the 105 Hospitals constructed and equipped in the same period, you would have been a stranger to know that before Ameachi, PH can only boast of two major roads, Aba and Ikwerre roads, and how he has massively expanded almost all the major roads; stadium road, Olu Obasanjo bypass, Rumuola road, eleme ring road, ada george, Choba road, etc.

You would also have forgotten that Lagos state already have good road network created when the city was federal capital city, and that all the major businesses were as a matter of state policy domiciled in Lagos.

True, Rivers gets more from allocation, but that cant be compared with Lagos state IGR.

The projects that are been referred to as white elephants are necessary projects that are financed under PPP where the Government only provide approvals, without direct funding. Critics, get your facts right.
Culture / Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by MIBB: 4:21am On Jun 25, 2011
This is the bit i really cant understand, if the Ibos desire a nation of theirs, why don't they go alone. They are large enough. must they drag unwilling southern minority tribes along?

Southern minority tribes are fast fusing together. we don't need a big brother role from any tribe. If Nigeria breaks up, we sure know our boundaries.
Business / Re: North’ll Kill Petroleum Industrial Bill-ex-minority Leader by MIBB: 2:35am On Jun 25, 2011
Majority of food stuff are grown in the north ( i presume).

Denying the north the proceeds of crude oil will be an act against humanity. (same country)
I believe the S.S deserves much more of the proceeds but one needs to show fairness to
the north because if nothing else, they have some humans amongst them and they need to run their society too.

my dear poster, does the North share the food stuffs with other Nigerians for free? why must you insist on total dependency on that zones to the extent that its becoming a drag on the nation?
Politics / Re: If Nigeria Divides, What Happens To The Christians In The North? by MIBB: 12:57pm On May 21, 2011
Dividing the country wont do any section any good. No part of Nigeria except the south west can comfortably form a nation. What we need is a restructuring along already existing six zones, so that each zone can be semi autonomous and able to develop at its pace, equal representation at the centre and a central Government that will be funded by the zones.

The image we command today is a function of our size. We can only but build on this. It will be left for South East to decide to send her people to the moon when North West is still grappling with the almajiris. The current trend of institutionalizing equal pace of development is unrealistic.

The South/South should realise that oil alone can't make them develop, and that it will not last for ever. They urgently need to prevail on their Governments to shun white elephant projects and invest in the people.

Above all, we need to live in peace, our problem is not religion, but structure. Thats why people keep agitating for sovereign national conference to brainstorm on an acceptable structure. All positive pressures should be tailored in this direction. Long Live Nigeria , and may it become the country of our dream.
Politics / Re: Buhari Rejects Results In 22 States And Fct by MIBB: 8:24am On Apr 19, 2011
Buhari is certainly a bad looser. He should know that he never stood any chance in SS and SE. These are a group of people that have been marginalised for so long and an opportunity came their way. I was shocked when the 86year old man behind my house in PH came to the pooling station with his aged wife to vote. The sing song everywhere was vote for Johnathan. It was like ring tone, days before the election. Every discussion, phone, call end with pls vote for Johnathan, this is our chance. Call it ethnicity or whatever, the turn out was justified. Thank God we got the victory, it certainly make us feel better as Nigerians.
Politics / Re: Gov Oshiomhole Sacks More Govt Officials by MIBB: 4:51pm On Apr 15, 2011
It is a shame that the architect of one man one vote cannot stand to see its effect. ACN's loss in esan is reaction to mass neglect of oshiomole administration.

The people know that nothing will change their fate under a regime that see the esans as his enemy, our fate will thrive better if we align with the more powerful centre.

What was Oshiomole expecting from his kitchen cabinet members, rig for him? if no, why is it hard for the man to accept the wish of the people.

This man lost focus long time ago and we are only seeing bits of it.
My advice for him is to get set to be voted out next year, enough of his clueless regime.
Politics / Re: Dbanj Interviews GEJ On STV by MIBB: 11:15am On Mar 19, 2011
How has the mighty fallen! The once exalted office of the president is now a huge joke. All thanks to GEJ. The managers of Goodluck keep messing up his profile every now and then. Why on earth is Johnathan shying away from programmes organised for him to showcase his programmes? Could it be that he really has none?

I am a south-south person, and only registered because i planned voting for Johnathan. All that organic solidarity is under serious consideration.

Why would the president subject himself to such comic with Dbanj?

Its so unfortunate that GEJ has decided to mess up such golden opportunity to give the Niger Deltas the relevance they desire.
Politics / Re: Gej Heckled At Katsina Rally by MIBB: 7:58am On Mar 17, 2011
I see US prediction coming even sooner than expected. Don't fool yourselves thinking that when GEJ is disgraced out of office by the seemingly more populous North, simply because he is minority that the oil wells in the south will reopen for their exploitation.

This election is a turning point. The yorubas supporting BB ticket should know that they have more to loose when the bubbles burst. the bulk of the operators and staff in the oil companies are yorubas.

The south is watching and will need to know why we cannot rule our country even when we fund it 95%.

We are watching!

Travel / Re: Lagos Ranked 4th Worst Livable City In The World 2011: D'you Agree? by MIBB: 2:42pm On Feb 28, 2011
The report only show one thing, " there is still so much work to be done in Lagos". The handlers of Lagos should know this and focus of ways to improve the lot of the city dwellers. To those mentioning Abuja, PH etc, so sorry for you now. Lagos remains the only international city in Nigeria. Federal Government must stop closing her eyes to Lagos. it will always remain a fair basis of assessment of our nation by anyone across the world.

The stinking drainage at VI and Ikoyi, the supposed exclusive neighborhood of the city is appalling.  Fashola should come out with a developmental blueprint for Lagos. Otherwise, after his eight years, he will comeback to notice that he left out fundamental aspects of the people's need that were easily achievable.
Politics / Re: Oil Communities To Get N165bn Annual Dividend by MIBB: 8:43pm On Feb 23, 2011
Now, how will these funds be accessed? How will it filter down to every stakeholder in Niger Delta? We have never lacked in making the right policies, NDDC was brilliant. But today take a cursory look at the agency, you will notice one common feature; corruption and misuse of funds.

If the ills that made the 13% allocated to NDDC is not resolved, this bill will only fuel agitations and unrest.

Politics / Re: Nigeria's Debt Profile On All Time High by MIBB: 6:35pm On Nov 13, 2010
You need to understand the structure of these debts. out of the $32.5b, only $4.5billion is foreign while over $25billion is local. OBJ never cleared the local debts. He only fixed the foreign debts. Thats not to say that he did not do well. he left us a very healthy reserve.
The cabal under Yardua messed up the debt profile, not Johnathan.

i sincerely hope that he has the acumen to cap the debts and stop further build up, otherwise, all the gains we made under OBJ would have been eroded.

The Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili, yesterday got more than she bargained for when Enerique Fernando Arrundell, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, used the opportunity of his visit to her office to tell Nigerians some hard lessons on how to manage, develop and utilize their God-given natural resources for the benefit and good of all.

The envoy, who was responding to an appeal by Mrs. Akunyili to help woo some of his country’s investors to come in and establish refineries under the federal government's planned deregulation of the downstream sector of the nation's petroleum industry, advised Nigeria to rather look inwards and to take full control of the industry.

Though, he acknowledged Venezuela as a prominent member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) like Nigeria, he said his country will be willing to collaborate with the federal government to develop the industry.

The hard truth

Mr. Arrundell said, “In Venezuela, since 1999, we’ve never had a raise in fuel price. We only pay $1.02 to fill the tank. What I pay for with N12,000 here (Nigeria), in Venezuela I’ll pay N400. What is happening is simple. Our President (Hugo Chavez) decided one day to control the industry, because it belongs to the Venezuelans. If you don’t control the industry, your development will be in the hands of the foreigners.

You have to have your own country. The oil is your country’s. Sorry I am telling you this. I am giving you the experience of Venezuela. We have 12 refineries in the United States, 18,000 gas stations in the West Coast. All we are doing is in the hands of the Venezuelans.”

The envoy said, “Before 1999, we had three or four foreign companies working with us. That time they were taking 80 per cent, and giving us 20. Now, we have 90 per cent, and giving them 10. But now, we have 22 countries working with us in that condition.

It is the Venezuelan condition. You know why? It is because 60 per cent of the income goes to social programmes. That’s why we have 22,000 medical doctors assisting the people in the community. The people don’t go to the hospital; doctors go to their houses. This is because the money is handled by the Venezuelans. How come Nigeria that has more technical manpower than Venezuela, with 150 million people, and very intellectual people all around, not been able to get it right? The question is: If you are not handling your resources, how are you going to handle the country?

“So, it is important that Nigeria takes control of her resources. We have no illiterate people. We have over 17 new universities totally free. I graduated from the university without paying one cent, and take three meals every day, because we have the resources. We want the resources of the Nigerian people for the Nigerians. It is enough! It is enough, Minister!”Government’s plea

Earlier, Mrs. Akunyili thanked the Ambassador for his visit, saying it is a demonstration of his love for the African continent, pointing out that there has always been some level of bilateral trade between the two countries, though very skeletal, as a result of the low awareness of the latent potential of Nigeria as an investor’s goldmine.

Drawing attention to the huge potential in the nation’s telecommunications sector, which is being exploited optimally by South African investors, the Minister noted: “There has been trade between the two countries actually, but we do not have many Venezuelans setting up manufacturing outfits in Nigeria. I want you to use your good office to send a message across to your people that Nigeria is a goldmine for genuine investors. We want them to come invest just as other investors are doing in the telecoms sector.”

She gave the assurance that government will give them the full cooperation, adding that President Yar’Adua’s administration is working hard to ensure that the country’s economy is taken to the next level through the initiative of the seven-point agenda and Vision 20-2020, designed to make Nigeria one of the largest economies of the world by the year 2020.

I live in Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt. Interestingly, i have been enjoying over 20hours of power supply since July. Before now, i run generators in turn, since i own two. I sincerely hope that this situation can only get better.

Well, if it is GEJ, its a good development, but we need to know thats its not just to prepare our minds for next year elections. However, i will be more pleased if the extra 4hour is added so that i can have a story of enjoying 24hours in my life time and in Nigeria.

At this time in our political journey, the last man we need as president is certainly no a dude that have difficulties making decisions. See how he embarrassed the nation with the Super Eagles ban and have to make a quick u-turn only after a few days. Whats really his plan for the nation? We should look beyond ethnicity and ask ourselves the real question: has he demonstrated clear understanding of the need of the Nigerian nation? What are his economic plans for the country. Even Niger Delta are getting restless with the apparent lack of direction of this Goodluck dude.

These are rather unfortunate comments by a Country's CBN Governor. This man is by his comments and actions endangering the Nigerian banking industry and has just added the stock market to that. Somebody must stop this high level incompetence and immaturity that has befalling then ation. This i s yet a nother calaminty.
Business / Cbn Governor Again! by MIBB: 7:14am On Jul 10, 2010
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on Friday, in Asaba, described most Nigerian banks as gambling centres.

Sanusi also described the Nigerian stock market as a casino, where fraudulent business transactions are perpetuated to the detriment of the citizenry.

He said politicians, particularly public office holders, were accomplices in the shady deals in which depositors of banks and investors in the stock market were being manipulated.

He tongue-lashed politicians for being responsible for the failure of some banks in the country.

The CBN governor stated these in a lecture titled, ”The Economy In Perspective: Consolidating The Gains of The Banking Sector Reforms,” which he delivered in Asaba, Delta State capital.

The lecture was organised by a non-government organisation, The Knowledge Centre, based in Onitsha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state. Sanusi said that members of the management and board of the banks easily gambled with depositors‘ money and colluded with the operators of the stock market for selfish motives.

He said the investors in the stock market had been turned to casino players by those who freely manipulated the market, warning depositors not to entrust their money to banks operated by those he referred to as ”gamblers.”

The CBN boss, at the event chaired by a former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, and attended by the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; his Anambra State counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi; Managing Director of BGL Plc, Mr. Albert Okumagba; and President of Afreximbank, Cairo, Egypt, Mr. Jean Louis Ekra, reiterated that CBN embarked on the ongoing banking reforms to save depositors and investors from being fragmented by the failed banks.

He accused the boards and managements of the banks of creating a false impression about their well-being in order to manipulate unsuspecting depositors, warning that the CBN was poised to put an end to the ugly trend.

He said, ”Although financial crisis is an integral part of every capitalist system, banks should stop preventing depositors and investors from Technical and Fundamental Analysis and Investors‘ Sophistication.

”We had a banking system in the past that was exposed to the capital market but without guidelines and regulatory system on lending margin. In the stock market, what people think about is how it will go up. But this market, this casino, is what those entrusted with depositors‘ money gamble with.

”A stock market is a very funny casino. Don‘t entrust your money with gamblers. CBN rules and regulations around the banks cannot be compromised. We are not just doing the sanctioning, we are combing the banks for excellence. The banks must stop creating the impression that they have values when in the actual sense they are dying.”

To salvage the situation, Sanusi advocated for a Bank Use Act, to overcome what he described as ”Insurance Business and Fixed Income Bubble,” adding that the current and saving accounts of depositors would no longer be allowed for use in executing private businesses.

”The CBN will no longer allow the use of current and saving accounts of depositors by banks to service insurance businesses, construction of roads and bridges by governors, senators and other political office holders, and the days of Intercontinental Bank‘s 30 per cent ownership by an individual, Oceanic Bank‘s 40 per cent ownership by a family and Afribank‘s 12 per cent by an individual, aside all other bad loans, are gone.”

The Convener of the forum, Prof. Sylvester Monye, said the centre was a charitable organisation with specific focus on the promotion of the development of knowledge as a key source of empowerment for the youth and less privileged members of the society. According to him, the centre was designed to provide cutting edge platform for modern and efficient information technology.

”It (the centre) will be equipped with a reference library, e-library, an ICT Centre and a multi-purpose conference centre. We are planning to create an enduring institution that will support and propagate the development of knowledge and the empowerment of our youths,” Monye added.

Governors Uduaghan and Obi, in their separate remarks, advised banks to give out loans to small scale industries and farmers and address the challenges Nigerians were facing in attracting foreign investments into the country.
