I have challenged Landmark to seek legal redress because this is a very huge investment and we need to settle this matter of who really owns the Ocean Coastline once and for all

I also challenged Landmark to publish his documents to the general public and also for everyone involved to openly produce all certified drawings and plans of both the old abd new coastal roads

Sometimes it is better to keep quiet before you get all the facts

If government is demolishing a business that has all the approved papers..then they will be entitled to compensation.

Landmark should do the needful if they have all the approved papers and If they built within an approved boundary... then they should pursue compensation.

There is too much media noise on this Landmark issue and it is based only half on truths and emotions.

There was an initial design for that road, landmark and other people followed and observed that design. All of a sudden, they brought out this new design when people have already followed their initial design. I saw the 3d of both designs. Interestingly, the initial design is better as there will be no house to demolish thus saving government huge sums of money.

Besides there is no tangible reason given for the current design with the associated cost on state coffers.

Agreed on getting the facts right and that is the position I am speaking from.
The cost I have no details on...but the engineering, execution and social economic impact I can boldly speak about.

Yes there is the option of repairing existing roads which past governments had poorly built. There is also the option of expanding new fronts like the coastal road. Either way would result in a debate. A decision either left or right still has its merit.

As an Engineer, I prefer a standard concrete road running across the country and which is durable than fixing bad roads that might need to be entirely re-built if it is to be done properly.

RoW is RoW. Simple charting in surveyor general's office and sticking to approved boundaries would have saved some businesses billions of Naira in damages.

Compensations are paid to those whose properties are affected by any adjustment in the RoW and who have approved papers.

I like reading Peter Obi’s comments, but this one on the coastal road is off key.

While I sympathise with those affected....
The properties that were demolished, were they built on an approved plan and boundary?
Did they chart the land before investing? You can't build on a RoW and start complaining about the execution of the Law. Mr President might not be the number one choice of some, but this project is laudable and comes with lots of merit.

Here I was happy that my Enugu now have this new structure. But the design is really poor. No safety consideration. Those buildings so not be there. The road show be two lanes. Etc

With time you will hear reports of many car driving through those kerbs at that bend and ending up in a ditch...especially at night.

This is the corruption that keeps crippling and sending us backwards in time. So sad for this my beloved profession. So sad.

Using public funds to do this kind of thing. Was there no supervising ministry or consultant for this design?

Russia underestimated the Ukrainian army and resolve of the people.

EA is a multi billion dollar project which goes directly into the Lagos state's economy with thousands of jobs across the board.

1) Ccecc was replaced by Dredging international since 2009.
2)Royal Haskoning are marine consultants. Initial design and conceptualization.
3)The property still belongs to chagoury group...though Saad is the MD for the Eko Pearl which is a sub project in the Eko City project.

Had a incidence once when my colleague and I, while taking measurements for tide flow and sediment transport studies along the Lagos Lagoon, placed one of such meters on a jetty in Apapa. We asked permission from the security guards on duty. Next day we returned to retrieve our equipment we observed lot of people around the device...DSS...Navy...Army...Bomb squad from the police with sniffer dogs e.t.c.

I think the ICPC's explanation is in context with the law(he made some references).

Going after them in the clerics house and their place of worship after clearing the road with force doesn't sit well with many people. In cities as big and as important as New York and London, Shiite do their procession and the security agencies guard them and facilitate its peacefulness.

I remember in 1990/1991(Zango kartfa crisis) and 2000/2001 during the sharia crisis in Kaduna, how some muslims attacked religious places of worship and burnt pple seeking refuge there alive....
