Op, what do you gain by Changing the Caption of the real news' link? Some of us have read the interview before now and this is not the message passed. The Caption is this, "My plans for lecturers who can’t keep their Libidos -Ekiti State ‘varsity VC Prof Bamidele". Now, see how the first idiot that commented has ignorantly cursed the V.C... This is how you know those who would make a rumour peddling bloggers. |

holytribe:Lol! You are very much welcome. I'm a scientist too, A Nutritional biochemist but acquaint myself with other things especially History, Culture and tradition of not only Ife but Yoruba land at large. God bless!! |
holytribe:Lol! So'mo ife niwo na bahin?? You need to elect History 101 course at OAU oo..See how you introduced the case to a stranger! Well let me help you a bit. Well, Jenni and holytribe. -The history of Ile-Ife, the ancient city of Yorubaland is mythical, like the biblical account of the creation of the world, but it is so far unwritten. The history of Ife can also be chronologically divided into three periods: The first Ife was known as Ife Oodaye, Ile owuro, ibiti oju ti mo, that is, the land of most ancient days where the dawn of the day was first experienced. The inhabitants of Ife Oodaye were believed to be powerful giants with mystic abilities. Tradition claims that the life of this community came to an end as a result of flood which flushed the whole area occupied by the community. Those who survived the deluge formed the nucleus of the community that formed the second era of the history of Ife. The second Ife was called Ife Ooyelagbo, that is, the city of the survivors. Tradition maintains that the second Ife lasted until the arrival of some strangers who entered the city of Ile-Ife from the “East”. An attempt made by the strangers to seize power from the aborigines on the land led to a bloody struggle between the strangers led by the Oduduwa on one hand and the aborigines led by Obatala, eventually Oduduwa and his groups won the war. The third Ife is called Ile-Ife founded with the arrival of Oduduwa and his groups. It is believed that Oduduwa, the founder of the Yoruba raced emerged after the deluge, he (Oduduwa) and his followers descended on to dry land by means of chain ropes from their life boat (hence the saying Oduduwa afi won ron). And later anchored on Oke-Ora (Oranfe Hill) between Ile-Ife and Itagunmodi on the Ife-Ilesa road, from where they came to Moore quarter in Ile-Ife. Ife modakeke crisis Ife-Modakeke crisis remains the oldest intra-ethnic conflict in Nigeria which makes the process of peace making a realistic one. The people of Modakeke migrated and settled in Ile-Ife in the aftermath of the collapse of the Old Oyo empire, the then Ooni of Ife accepted them as refugees in the nineteenth century. They were welcomed and allowed to work as labourers on Ife farms. The then Ife's entrusted them with their farmland and overtime, they requested for piece of lands to farm on the agreement to be paying royalties (Called Ifo or isakole). Till today other tribes like Igbo farmers still pays but modakeke people stopped paying royalties claiming they now own the farm. War started between the landlords (Ife) and the settlers or refugees (Modakeke) which has lasted for centuries. Overtimes, Modakeke people seek to fight for self autonomy and developed local army to defend their farms, they sent away sons and daughters of real land owners and fight for self autonomy like having a local government of theirs, having their own king and among many others. *** Holytribe, the part where you said ife were drinking is not evidence enough to claim ownership. In Lagos, even if you build house on another man's land, they can tell you to carry your house or it's dismantle. Yes, modakeke own some farms but all farms not the Land. -Some of the identified major conflicts that broke out between the two groups include: The two bloody battles of 1849. The communal war of December 1882. The conflict over selection of Imam by the Modakeke in 1934. The Isakole (Land Rent) dispute of 1946 – 47. The confrontation over the reception of a British parliamentarian (Rev. Sorenson) in January 1949. The conflict over the establishment of Modakeke High School. The conflict over the establishment of Olorunsogo Plank Market, The opposition to self help development projects by a Fund Raising activity of Modakeke in 1980. And the request for a separate Local Government Council with began in 1950s. I hope this helps! Full blooded ife Prince writes! One love between Ife and Modakeke.. War pays no one. |

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was on Friday hosted by the indigenes of Ile-Ife, Osun State, resident in the United States. The monarch, with his entourage, was received at the J.F. Kennedy Airport, New York, by leaders of Ife indigenes and other Nigerians in the US on Thursday. A New York City Senator, Kevin Parker, and the Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, said the city had secured a proclamation to declare Monday, June 13, 2016 as Yoruba Day. They said the action was to honour the monarch. According to a statement, the Ooni has also been billed to visit President Barack Obama at the White House, where he will receive an award. The statement added that a number of programmes had been scheduled to honour the traditional ruler while in the country. As part of activities in his visit to the US, the Ooni will on Sunday, June 12, 2016, be the Special Guest of Honour at the prestigious Odunde festival. The festival, which promotes the culture of the Yoruba race, was created in 1975 by Lois Fernandez and Ruth Arthur, and attracts about 500,000 people annually. The event will provide an opportunity for the monarch to interact with the over 3,000 Ife indigenes in the US on how to develop Ile-Ife. The statement said, “On the same day, the Museum of the Contemporary African Diaspora Arts will receive the monarch in a private reception as well as a public forum session. “Expected at the event will be Brooklyn Borough President and a New York City Public Advocate, Leticia James. The monarch will then move to the Mid-West and other parts of the country to attend economic and leadership summits before being received by President Barack Obama through The White House Office of Faith-based and Neighbourhood Partnerships.” The Chairman of the Grand Reception Planning Committee and one of the leaders of Ife Ooye North America group, Chief Olubunmi Awopileda, said, “All Ife natives in the US are excited and energised for this epochal occasion. It will be an occasion to showcase our very rich culture with our king as the symbol.” http://www.punchng.com/obama-honour-ooni-nyc-declares-yoruba-day/

chymevicks:Lolz! Easy... Next time just say double! Well for the record, the school had 5 first class in 2013, 2 first class in 2014, 6 first class in 2015 and now 23 in 2016. I get your drift ( Over 100%). The error above doesn't mean I'm uneducated with your " Educated folks addition" and more so, you don't need to come and add I rep umudike, it makes it look like bragging to me. Anybody could do that, from any school. Thanks! |
win3k:Sign of an academically frustrated graduate... |
johnkay1:No government school would pamper children. How many of them that graduated with first class do you knw??. If you care to know about where they are now, mail me. |
johnkay1:This comment shows you don't have an idea of what you are saying, did you read the part where the VC said, this year performance is 100% of those in the past Meaning only 2 to 3 first class was recorded last year. Kwasu is one hell of a school, they fail them like anything, because of the fast academic calendar.. I can say that those First class dudes can compete favourably any where in the world. It's from their postgraduate studies they would Begin to show the world what they can do better with better facilities and conducive learning environment which is what most state universities are lacking... Your comment above is wrong bro. |

Lol! Part of Academic Brain drain... A PhD student looking for government to give her Teaching Jobs, when Teaching is the easiest Job to get. Ordinary NCE holders are organizing coaching centres to augment living expenses. She should try Jamb centres if she is really a sound PhD student, visit govt and private counselling units in hospitals, Universities, Prisons yo do internship and learn. Try and ask for free teaching periods in schools she's running her PhD at no cost, in no time, the HOD would recommend her if she's really good at what she does. Enough of this excuse, of help, help and help. I have a cousin who did fashion designing to run his PhD in Microbiology. Today, he is a senior lecturer. |

I would rather go and be selling pure water for football pitch that guarantees something meaningful, not this auto-coercing you call Job. |
