TV/Movies / Re: Interview With Bright Ikechukwu Echefu, TSTV CEO (Video) by midastouch: 3:29pm On Oct 03, 2017
Ezigbonmadu:
Many of the CEO's explanations don't add up. And that is shocking because he is expected to know how his company operates more than anybody else.

He said his company provide 4G internet on their platform. This is ridiculous beyond explanation. You can only have 4G/LTE internet services from wireless broadbands and not from satellites. Other wireless protocols are WiMAX, WiFi, GPRS, 3.5/3.0G. While satellite bands are ku and c bands (and their derivatives). I'm a Communication Engineer. TSTv claiming to provide 4G on a satellite platform is impossible and ridiculous. Except there will be SIM cards on their devices. This is exactly what I suspect because he mentioned 2 things:

1. That their decoder is Android.
2. That the device doubles as a router.

Essentially what they will offer is a smart phone in a big box. They will depend on your local GSM coverage and data for their data uplinks while downlinks are handled by their satellite feed.

My conclusion:
1. Their data speed will be terrible. Hence people buying the device just for data will be frustrated.
2. They are just a third party service provider. They don't have their own satellite feeds. They will also resell internet from main one (according to Dr Bright, their CEO). Thus, as resellers, they can't control or guarantee quality.

Oga, you are wrong with some of your assumptions.

1. Their data speed will be terrible. Hence people buying the device just for data will be frustrated. - It might be terrible OR TERRIFIC depending on so many factors. You do not have enough data to make this conclusion.

2. They are just a third party service provider. They don't have their own satellite feeds. They will also resell internet from main one (according to Dr Bright, their CEO). Thus, as re-sellers, they can't control or guarantee quality. - They might be a third-party service provider BUT they own their own satellite feed. The Data will be on transponder's and nobody will give you a transponder if you have not paid for it. A lot of Big Service Providers of internet service via satellite rent transponders. They DO CONTROL THEIR QUALITY.

By-the-way, MainOne's internet service is reputed to be world class. TSTV could not have chosen a better provider, save for Vodacom.

Please do not pontificate when you do not have all the data. I have been in satellite communications (voice, video and data) for over 17 years - professionally with Blue Chip organisations - and still do not have all the knowledge.

Phones / Re: Samsung Will Earn More On The Iphone X Than On The Galaxy S8 by midastouch: 8:30am On Oct 03, 2017
oodua1stson:
Samsung have always made parts for apple. Reason why I'm bemused when some mumu compare apple who buy 99% of their phone parts to Samsung who are tech giants.

Apple only have money. Nothing else. No innovation

Even Steve Jobs did not write a single code while alive

Welcome to modern manufacturing economy. Everybody relies on somebody for a particular component. Nobody does it all alone. Even Samsung.

Samsung phones use Sony cameras, Qualcomm SOCs, etc.

The name of the game is be the best in what you can be. Samsung makes great displays so Apple has to go with them. It is not a war, it is business.

But Apple is NOT only about having money.

Apple makes the best smartphone processor and SOC. It is not child's play.

Apple makes a very viable mobile operating system -IOS; that is not child's play too.

Apple makes a lot of specialized processors and silicon for mobile phones; that is unassailable.

You can hate them or love them, but they are here to stay and they are pulling their weight in the mobile space. Do not hate the player, hate the game!

Crime / 9mobile (etisalat) Is Stealing My Data Balance by midastouch: 10:23am On Sep 22, 2017
I am using an official 9Mobile line from the office and every month, my organisation credits my line with 2.5GB of data.

I was on my annual leave last week and my mobile data became exhausted, and I had to buy top-up data of 500Mb.

I resumed work on Tuesday with a data balance of 100MB. At the office, I usually connect to the WIFI network. This time, as a precaution, I TURNED OFF MY MOBILE DATA in the phone settings so that I could conserve my mobile data. I DID NOT enable/use mobile data on Tuesday evening/night at home.

On Wednesday, I also did not enable mobile data at work. To my greatest surprise, I kept getting prompts of low data from 9Mobile. They kept deducting data (WITH MY MOBILE DATA SETTINGS STILL TURNED OFF IN MY SETTINGS); until it got to Zero balance.

This is criminal! This is dishonest and This is stealing.

I am sounding the alarm here, if anybody has experienced the same, kindly share so that I may confirm if I am hallucinating or not. But the facts are too real meeeen.

This is a VERY disturbing news.

Having a NATIONAL CARRIER is not a MUST.

Very soon, the budget allocated to maintenance will go missing and planes will start falling down from the skies.

Quota system will ensure that unqualified and ill fitting personnel will swarm the whole place.

Not necessarily. My colleague bought PHCN recharge from one of the online recharge selling websites, and within 20 minutes, her Card details were used online elsewhere for 3 different transactions on websites different from the original website. A lot of criminals are getting better at this stuff.

What strand are sold in Nigeria? I know that in Europe when people get stoned they become super chill, for them it has more of a relaxing effect unlike the aggressiveness noticed in Nigerian weed smoker.

Someone with knowledge of why this is so should enlighten us. Thanks

There are 2 strains of the cannabis plant: Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica.

The Sativa strain is the most common in Nigeria. It gives a brain high; makes you hyperactive.

The Indica strain appears to be more common in Europe. It gives a body high; it makes you relaxed and sleepy. It is the strain that is valued for its medicinal/curative use.
Politics / Re: Probe Uncovers Massive Fraud In Youwin Programme by midastouch: 9:31am On Mar 28, 2017
PapaBrowne:
The lies in this government are just nauseating.

YOUWIN was and remains the only program run in Nigeria in recent years that was devoid of Nepotism.

I know a number of people that won and they did so only with very sound business plans. I wrote business plans for a few people and they won without knowing anyone in Abuja.

The other lie is that it favored people from a particular region. This program was region based with a maximum cap per region. The names of the winners are online with their states of origin.

There is a thread on nairaland for YOUWIN winners and you can verify from the discussions whether there was any sense of nepotism.
This was an internationally acclaimed program that had the input of the DFID & Worldbank.

The main reason this government is failing and would continue failing is because it was founded on lies upon lies.

It is really important to trumpet facts as they stand. Personally, I know 2 people, not related to me that started their businesses with YouWin funds. They DO not know anybody and DID NOT lobby anybody for the grant. YouWin grants was also balanced on geopolitical basis.

YouWin programme was the first time in a VERY LONG time that I have witnessed a Nigerian government project executed on the basis of merit.

So sad.
When people complain about some ills in the government, it's not always about politics. When Christians were being slaughtered in southern kaduna some people kept mute and did "eyes right" as if they didn't know what was happening.

The whole world was watching. Now after allowing the perpetrators to go scotch free and even paid some of them for killing you think foreigners will feel safe again? No way.

They'll equally think that once they get kidnapped or killed the government will only pay the perpetrators so they won't kill again. Everyone is scared of Kaduna state right now.

Kudos to Elrufai

At least we now know that the Whole World is Watching in 3D. Genocide loading .......

I am still in the process of setting up my SNAIL farm, just yesterday i discovered that ants (red rugged ants that is smaller than Soldier ant has surged from the ground. They are enjoying carrots and cocoyam peals i deposited in the farm. How do i treat this farm before i introduce the snails? Should i apply insecticide inside the soil of the farm because they are coming from the soil/ground

The only way to control pests is to control the environment. If you are doing free range, think of maybe digging down to about 40cm round your pen area and doing a small cement flooring of the substrate to about 3cm thickness. then plaster the walls of the hole to about 3cm thickness. Treat the soil that you want to put inside and make sure it is free of ants thoroughly. Put aluminium long span sheet to about 50cm depth (from the surface) around the pen to fit your cement flooring. then pour the treated soil back into your pen. At least now you can say with some level of confidence that ants will find it difficult to enter your pen enclosure.

Until his death he had been a regular visitor to my office. We had a meeting with him first week of this year, the follow up meeting yet to hold. Very interesting man, has a new music yet to be released which he told us will be done in the United States though he did not state when.

A musician, religious man and business man.

Died in the Pent house of his house on the early hours of Monday 16th January, 2017.

May his soul rest in peace.

You were blessed to have met him in person. He was truly a visionary, a musical and film genius, an entrepreneur, a trail-blazer and a lover of God. I can't even believe the things this guy did back then. Wao!

post a picture of your where they are kept. Show a close-up picture of the soil.

Check to make sure that there are no traces of ants, any kind of fly, insect larvae (like caterpillar) or ANY other insect, you might not recognize; however small or innocent it might look. etc.

Make sure that they are not being unduly cooked by intense sunlight.

I hope their soil has little moisture and you are not drowning them in water.

Make sure that they are not being dried up like suya by the harmattan breeze. They need high humidity.

What are you feeding them? I hope that is not the culprit here.

Its not the end of the world, cheer up, everything situation has a silver lining.

There is no need for this to happen.

Please let him or anybody that is close to him google how to prepare oil from the flowers and leaves of cannabis indica strains. The oil is both for oral and topical use. It will heal the sore within 2 weeks at most. Real powerful and potent stuff. A word of caution: prepare the oil yourself, do not buy from anyone no matter what! A lot of people are desperate to scam anybody in need also, the need for quality control.

If you find yourself inside a ditch, the most rational course of action would be to claw yourself out. But if you take a shovel and dig yourself deeper into the ditch, then you will be there for a long time. End result, you are in a deeper mess.

1. Ill timed and ill advised Domiciliary Account Policy.
2. Deadly sudden withdrawal of Public Sector funds from the real sector and converting same into Dead Capital in CBN. Financial death everywhere.
3. Playing the Harp while Rome burns. 6 whole months before starting the act of governance! Appointing Deadwood materials as ministers.
4. De-marketing Nigeria to the world whenever the C-in-C travels outside the country.
5. Appointing Social Media Aides instead of Economic Advisers
6. Laughable Personnel Composition of Economic Team
7. Incoherent and Directionless Economic Policy
8. Mismanagement of Dialogue with the Niger Delta
9. Unnecessary CBN intervention in the FX Market supporting unrealistic exchange rates.
10. Eight months into 2016 and the budget has not been implemented!

These are the facts without bias to anyone or anything. I have put them here in the spirit of dialogue and I am willing to bow to superior argument.

Literature / Re: Bibliophobia; The Moribund Art Of Reading by midastouch: 8:36am On Aug 15, 2016
In my own experience, the habit of reading is better formed early in a child's life. Back then when I was a child, my Father got all of us library cards, and we roamed the aisles of the children section of the library searching out storybooks that came alive when we turned the pages. It was the first time I fell in love (with books). I traveled to distant lands, ate exotic cuisine, watched diverse cultures, experienced magic ...

As a parent, I am trying to re-create the same experience for my kids. I limit exposure to TV and mobile devices and instead re-direct them to find entertainment and mental stimulation in the pages of books. Its a lot of work, and I appreciate my parents more.
