ositadima1: My target is above ₦100. I think FIRSTHOLDCO may be chasing after ZENITHBANK and GTCO. If it moves above Zenith, the real question will be: Can it sustain strong dividend payments, or is the buy side simply deep enough to keep pushing the price higher?
Disclosure: I bought a few months ago and still hold a position.
I think it will hit N100; going above Zenith may be tough; The release of Q2 results will influence a lot of things. Failure to declare or match interim dividends from Zenith, GT could reverse FBN price gains.
Raider76: Oga, dividend payout is nice, but there are other things in this game. FIRSTHOLDCO has gained 67% in just two weeks this month.
I agree with you; Those selling are making good profits, of course. My comment is to highlight the pros and cons for those who may be buying now to keep for the long term.
toyeoye: 🚨 Market Open: FIRSTHOLDCO wastes no time
The banking giant opens Thursday at a fresh 52-week high.
📈 +9.96% today 🏆 New 52-week high: ₦87.25 🔥 +26.08% WoW 💰 +82.15% YTD Yesterday it was chasing the high. Today it is setting it.
Someone is mopping up FBN shares; may be Otedola or some other stakeholders. Good for those who are selling and making profits. My concern for buyers is that dividend yield of FBN is not too fantastic!
Agbalowomeri: E be you no read my last comments. As at March/April, Nigeria was still in court and hoping to make the world cup. Which one don't you understand there? I also stated that the fact that you budget does not mean you would disburse. Your argument would hold water if you can show/prove that money was disbursed for an activity not done
You have not answered my questions too : Nigeria was in court to do what, by what, for wha? Is this the first time Nigeria would qualify or not qualify for the world cup? Why was it captured under the Presidency and not under Sport Ministry/NFA budget? What is Special Support Group? Who are the members ? Is it another fake group!
If you want to defend them, then stay on one lane. You cannot say it was right for them to include such controversial, unverified, vague allocation in the budget, and at the same time say there is no issue because it has not been released/spent.. That N6 4b allocation has potentially denied other competing needs or sectors the benefit of being catered for in the 2026 budget.
Agbalowomeri: You posted something means you believe it When the budget was passed, Nigeria was still in the world cup conversations. That is why I fault your post
Posting a news item does not necessarily mean the OP believes or does not believe the story. It basically means that the OP deems the topic or subject as thought-provoking, for people to discuss. share opinions and perspectives.
In any case, if your answer is to make any sense, then we should have had the World Cup preparation expenses under the budget of the Sports Ministry/NFA. But this is called ''Special Presidential Support Group for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers''. Which qualifiers would require as much as N6.44b as at December 2025? Why is it coming from the Presidency, and not Sports Ministry/NFA? And what is Special Support Group?
November 16, 2025: Nigeria played its last WC qualifier against DRC and lost. December 19,2025: President forwarded the 2026 National Appropriation Bill (Budget) to National Assembly March 31, 2026: National Assembly approved the 2026 Budget April 17, 2026: President signed the Budget
From November 16 to December 19, 2025 is more than one month before the president sent the Appropriation Bill the National Assembly for consideration!
So @Agba:, Do you still want to defend or rationalize this obvious lapse? (I don't want to call it gross incompetence or corruption for now, even though it clearly indicates as such)
Agbalowomeri: When was the budget drafted? Do you think money is released for everything budgeted for? At this rate, you just dey post anything postable. It is no longer constructive criticism. Make una stop political posts abeg. Maybe when Q2 begin drop sha
Why are you asking me questions that should be answered by the people who drafted the budget? Did you see any comment by me? I only posted what is already in the news, and you are directing questions at me? Has the govt been able to answer questions on how a so-called ''fake agency'' got approved budget allocation, expenditure and office allocation at the federal secretariat? Better ask the govt to be more meticulous and transparent than be always edgy, apprehensive and defensive when news on scandals and allegations break!
PFIPC Scandal Widens As Atiku Queries ₦6.44bn World Cup Budget
The former Vice President also linked the PFIPC controversy to what he described as questionable provisions in the 2026 Appropriation Act, drawing attention to an allocation of ₦6.44 billion for a “Special Presidential Support Group for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.”
“How does a government budget ₦6.44 billion for World Cup qualifiers after Nigeria had already been eliminated? Who inserted the provision, who approved it, and what was the intended purpose of the allocation?” Atiku queried.
Mankind2024: @Omo Osi, I do not blame you. Nairaland.com denied me the right to reply, deleted my post, and banned me. You are one of the Toxicus Delusionalis breed of Mr. Gringory. Your partner in envy and hatred for the Nigerian nation had the temerity to threaten me. He missed road. Both of you combined cannot withstand my intellectual assault. It has nothing to do with age, you are the blind Omo Osi who needs to grow up. You haters of Nigeria who see no good in our indefatigable president, we left you and your crazy, rabid Toxicus Delusionalis fellows for too long.
You have even turned an investment platform into a political one, where you daily rain insults on our president. Never in your miserable life should you ever comment on my posts again.
Na wa ooo. Tinubu himself (as a grown up politician and ex-governor) was criticizing, even insulting a sitting president of Nigeria by calling him a ''drunken fisherman'' But now, no one should criticize the person who criticized former presidents? I don't get it. But it is okay (not to drag it further)
Personal attacks using derogatory words, terms, insults, graphics etc not necessary in this forum. Let's disagree or agree based on principles, facts, opinions etc. But no need going too personal. It helps no one
XTruth: Lol last week bro claimed they were begging for a deal and now threatened they if they don't negotiate not even mentioning Iran was attacked three times before during negotiations.
Trumps wants them to sign to the terms stipulated by US, not the ones that Iran wants. And that include a declaration not to attack ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz
ositadima1: All this jibber-jabber over someone you've never met and probably never will. I was once guilty of the same, but I eventually realized how pointless it was.
''spirit'' fighting ''ghost'' we all sometimes fall for the temptation. But makes no sense
US is only interested in striking their infrastructure and installations. But Israel would first go for the govt officials, military personnel, nuclear scientists etc because they don't want the ordinary civilians to suffer
crownprince2017: I don't know why someone will just come to a public place disrespect others because they disagreed with him. Probably he thinks they are afraid of him for not coming down to his level and deal with him.
Imagine this guy trying to fight agba, if not because agba used maturity that day. On top his opinions wey he never point gun to your head to accept.
Agbalowomeri: I will start writing the names of noisemakers on this thread
Please add the names of: i. those who break the ''Law'' by always yearning and going after ladies, women, big madams, especially those with big y---h! ii. those who are too bearish and always wish that price of every stock must crash, even when they are not going to buy
"We need to have a very uncomfortable conversation about Ghana. Right now, Accra is leading a furious diplomatic campaign to paint South Africa as a continental pariah. A diplomatic row is brewing between Accra and South Africa after claims of xenophobic violence. But if you look behind the moral outrage at xenophobia in South Africa, the truth is starting to unravel.
Yes, we have deep, painful issues with the anti-migrant sentiment in South Africa that our country and our government must fix. But Accra has weaponised the recent xenophobia wave, and to be honest, they have been using official channels to perpetuate misinformation.
First, it was labeling a tragic extortion shooting in Cape Town as a xenophobic assassination, which was not the case. They even twisted a routine summit schedule to claim that they snubbed President Cyril Ramaphosa from visiting Ghana because of the xenophobic wave, and that's not true.
So why the sudden hostility? The answer isn't in our streets. It's in Ghana's lucrative goldfields.
Accra recently shocked the mining sector by refusing to renew the lease of a South African company, goldfields, at its Tamang mine, a site that the South African company has run since the 90s, and now they've given it to a local firm run by the president's own brother.
By painting South Africa as a moral pariah linked to the anti-migrant crisis, Accra manufactures the political capital it needs to legitimize their moves, which is basically resource nationalism, and the asset stripping of a South African company.
So here's the thing: Ghana is growing at a roaring 6.4% per quarter. They want to be the undisputed powerhouse of West Africa, and to do that, they are flexing their muscle against the continent's economic giant, South Africa.
This is why Dirco (Foreign Affairs) Minister Ronald Lamola cannot treat this with passive diplomacy. We must summon the High Commissioner and demand answers. We cannot allow our national shame to weaponize by regional rivals for something beyond our understanding. It's time to call out the Accra agenda. It's a scramble for economic power that's disguised as moral outrage." - Qaanitah Hunter, News24
Very useless, senseless and irresponsible article. You are quiet on the criminal attrocities, killings, lootings, attacks of Xenophobia. You attack Zimbabweans, whose country did a lot to assist S/Africa gain independence. Malawians, Nigerians etc. Ghana is the owner of their gold and give it to whoever they want, It is not your business. Go extract the gold in your country South Africa. International trade and migration can only go together. You cannot enjoy the benefits of one and deny the other
Amberly01: Akosua Manu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) spokesperson for Gender and Social Protection has accused the government of President Mahama of using arrests and stringent bail conditions to intimidate political opponents, alleging that the moves are part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent and pave the way for a controversial third-term agenda.
Speaking on the issue, Akosua Manu, claimed that recent arrests of government critics were designed to stifle opposition voices rather than uphold the rule of law.
According to her, the opposition remains the most vocal critic of the current administration, and the government is seeking to weaken every avenue of accountability.
"They are arresting dissenters and imposing excessive bail conditions to silence critics. The opposition is their loudest critic, and they believe they already have control over much of the media while some civil society organisations that would ordinarily speak out have also been muted," she said.
Manu further alleged that the government's actions were laying the groundwork for a constitutional amendment that would allow President John Dramani Mahama to seek another term in office beyond the constitutional limit.
She argued that Ghanaians should not remain silent, insisting that citizens must continue to hold the government accountable and resist what she described as attempts to undermine the country's democratic institutions.
The NPP spokesperson also referenced the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, claiming the public initially paid little attention to the development but has since become more critical of the government's actions. She further argued that key campaign promises, including the proposed 24-hour economy and job creation initiatives, have yet to materialise.
Manu also alleged that some members of the governing NDC privately oppose any attempt to pursue a third-term agenda but are unwilling to speak publicly due to expectations of political appointments. In her words, 'Even within their party (NDC), there are people against the third term agenda plan but they just can't say it because most of them are still waiting for appointments so they can't criticize it but they know for sure that its a bad idea'.
She warned that any move to alter presidential term limits would pose a significant threat to Ghana's democracy, arguing that weakening constitutional safeguards could expose future generations to authoritarian leadership.
Very useless, reckless and irresponsible article. The idiotic NPP did worse things from 2017-2024. Ghanaians know better
Parachoko: If Obasanjo and Jonathan built quality roads that will last for years, Asiwaju won't be spending Trillions on Constructing Road across Nigeria
Lets use the Gbagada-Oshodi-Apapa Expressway for Example.
Obasanjo spent billions on patching the road for 8 years.
Yardua spent billions on patching the road
Jonathan spent billions on patching the road
Buhari is the one who truly reconstructed the road
If Buhari just patched the road like Obasanjo and the rest, Asiwaju will have to spend Billions on fixing the road by now.
Will Tinubu construct all possible roads across every part of Nigeria in 4 or 8 years? Are you saying future govts will not spend trillions of naira constructing roads after Tinubu is out of govt? What kind of shallow logic is this?
For those who think ''reforms'' are the end and must be praised to high heavens, here is what the Minister is saying: ''A fiscal reform that looks flawless on paper but fails to improve conditions for Nigerian businesses is not reform; it is disguised bureaucracy....''
Bizibi: he knows how to market his product, when he spoke to journalist about his investment in the dangote refinery and addressing the fbn directors I knew the stock will do very well.
Otedola na ''cowboy''. That is what he does when he enters a stock. He will still do same to Dangote refinery after listing because he will surely want to buy more units to increase his stake
Bizibi: something is going on in oando it may be positive or negative but one need to understand why a company with heavy backing is dragging its feet. Next year is election and this government have four years to go.....m
You are speaking in parables oo. Abeg say something!
OlugbonAresa: A real juvi argument is an understatement...! That lad must be one of those whose pastors still ask them to pray for Isarhell every sun day
I think it is better, and I will follow someone that tells me to pray for a nation (any nation at all, Nigeria, Israel, Iran etc) rather than follow someone that tells me to hate, curse, attack, kill, destroy and exterminate a nation (or a people) from the surface of the earth.
Agbalowomeri: Seems you are now campaigning for Tinubu because these are all the things he is addressing
Well, I did not nention any names. But if you say so, I leave it to your conscience. Minimum wage now can only buy 1 bag of 50kg Rice. In some years past, minimum wage could buy almost 3-4 bags of 50kg Rice
Namaster: When talking about GDP per capita, one thing to consider is POPULATION.
Argentina has a population of 46 Million. Nigeria has a population of 245 Million.
We have NEARLY 200 Million MORE people than Argentina. In fact, you can remove 5 Argentinas from Nigeria in terms of population and still have enough people left to populate SMALL country.
A HUGE disparity in population like that will inevitably skew per capita computations.
That said, there TOTAL GDP is still HIGHER than Nigeria.....and that of ALL other countries in Africa.
But when you compute TOTAL GDP in terms of Purchasing Power Parity, Nigeria's is HIGHER.
One of ONLY 2 countries in Africa to manage that.
Finally, Argentina's GDP also comes with a FAT debt of $549 BILLION resulting in over 80.3% Debt-to-GDP ratio.
Compared to Nigeria's GDP which comes with a debt of $103 Billion and a Debt-to-GDP ratio of 35.5%.
Fun fact: Argentina also has a HIGHER GDP per capita and GDP per capita PPP than China.
Let that SINK in.
What matters is PRODUCTIVITY, and not necessarily Population. Nigeria's problem us that our productivity is low due to poor infrastructure, low literacy levels, access to credit, human development index, high cost of doing business etc
As someone who is passionate about agriculture and entrepreneurship, I've decided to start a series where I visit successful agribusiness entrepreneurs across Nigeria to learn firsthand how they built their businesses. My goal is to share practical insights that can inspire anyone looking to venture into agriculture or expand their knowledge of the sector.
For the first episode, I visited an ex-banker in Port Harcourt who started his rabbit farming business with just three rabbits. Today, that small beginning has grown into a business worth millions of naira.
During the interview, we discussed the business in detail—from rabbit breeding to the income opportunities many people overlook. You'll discover how virtually every part of the enterprise has value, including the meat, breeding stock, urine, and droppings used as organic fertilizer.
Rabbit farming remains one of the least talked about agribusinesses in Nigeria, yet it has enormous potential for those willing to learn and do it properly.
If you're curious about agriculture, looking for a profitable business idea, or simply enjoy real-life success stories, I believe you'll find this interview enlightening.
Watch the full interview below, and I'd love to hear your thoughts afterward.
Oasisblue: Lol. You overhype this your Netanyahoo. If he sure for am make he attack Iran solely and ask its bulldog, the US, to stand down and not interfere, make we check something.
Why are you disturbing the conversation between Iran and the whole world?
I no overhype anybody.
Iran told the whole world that if US atacks the country, they will attack and destroy Israel.
Iran was the first to attack Israel directly in 2024 when they fired about 400 missiles at Israel when Biden was still US president. That was before Israel killed their top leaders and military generals. And we know that Iran has become stronger since that time. So what is Iran still waiting for? Netanyahu is expecting a "call to action" from Iran. . Iran even said their former president is an agent for Israel's Mossad! Iran is completely finished if that is true because it means ALL their military plans, secrets and top echelons are in the hands of Israel
