Henry240: Compared to Russians......... No. The Russians are better trained, better equipped, have much larger resources at their disposal, have seen by far more combat. Only British and American S.F are on the same scale. You can't really judge who has the best SF from looking at pictures. Western militaries or NATO allied nations have the best images on the net. And oh you do realise NATO sf units are interoperable? |

Henry240: OFF-TOPIC
Cool Russian Commando with his tricked out AK-74M.
You can hardly tell the difference between a Russian and a Western commando, and by Western i mean American, British, maybe French Commando. The Russians would beat the Italians and Germans blue-black. Not in reality. |

bidexiii: Explanatory well....... but it shouldn't affect the total numbers of active Gripens and pilots who fly them..?
Test pilots, instructors, operational pilots & analysts ; all are qualified pilots. Infact you have to be a very experienced pilot to be an instructor/analyst...etc. The SAAF is underfunded. Maintaining a large number of pilots with the fighter squadron would be expensive meaning their flying hours will have to be cut so the air force has stationed a small number of pilots with 2 squadron. An example a Gripen stationed in Cape town at the TFDC used. 2 squadron is stationed in Limpopo(North of the country), the pilot is probably a test pilot: http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-41743/We are in Africa no country can deliver publishing air strikes like the Russians or NATO countries, no country in sub Saharan Africa can deploy 9+ frontline fighters outside it's boarders. |

africaken254: i have to agree with about the poorly constructed outpost but the issue of their state of alertness i have to disagree with most of the soldier killed had their gear even their boots.i have had one concern about how KDF constructs its outpost from the leaked video on an attack in lamu on a KDF outpost ,the alshabaab sneaked so close that they were next to a parked APC in the camp outpost
if you observe outpost constructed by the americans in afganistan ,with a perimeter made from Hesco bastions over 10 feet high with razor wire on top and towers at each corner .also they made sure they clear view of the surrounding area, compare el adde where thick bushes surrounded the outpost even inside the out post Ground based early warning systems The Lamu outpost looked like the chaps had just stopped to rest, I mean from the video it didn't look like there was any fence, trenches etc |

bidexiii: Deployed many pilots to other roles....?, where?
Being deployed to other roles should not alter the total numbers of Gripen operated by SAAF... Within the force. Instructors, test pilots, analysts(Air power) etc The pilots flying the Gripens belong to 2 squadron. |

Henry240: Too much grammar!!
South-Africa has done what? 5 Gripen pilots for 26 fighter jets, is this the example worthy of emulation?
Some Nigerians refer to the SANDF as more technologically advanced than Nigeria, and i cannot help but laugh. In what areas is the SANDF more technological advanced? Those numbers are from the fact that SAAF deployed many pilots to other roles and aren't based with the fighter squadron. Communications, sensors etc |

M14A1: The rationale behind rating Libya ahead of Kenya is what i find ludicrous. Majority walk around with RPGs in Libya, drive technicals for uber taxi and plant grenades for fun. Evidently there's no military over there.
OMG?!! What exactly is Zimbabwe fighting that they are ranked ahead of Uganda. Poachers?? The Zimbabweans are highly professional. |

chkil: with all respect to Rooivalk weach is a good helicopter but we can't compare with russian industry and experience, its nice that UN use some rooivalk in RDC (40 hours per month) ! but rooivalk just start when russian society design helicopter and aircraft from the beginning of aernotic and invented most concepts used now and operate all aroud the world and many wars and conflict , still a long road for south africa to catch geants like russia and usa . Why do most nations whom buy Russian aircraft prefer intergrating western avionics? |

iblawi: You have proved nothing.
Their are only 11 Rooivalk helicopters in the entire world and you have only 3 in Congo that hardly fly. When they fly they are used against rebels that are looking for UN food.
Rebel groups stealing UN food are in no way different from thieves. Pure waste of resources. SADF using hammer to kill ants. How many Spirit bombers are in service in the world? |

Vikkie14: Just like comparing Alpha Jet to SU-24 because they are both in the category of "Bomber" right?? "Beauty" and "Brain" are entirely two different things though they both starts with the letter "B"-- you can't compare them. The Alpha jet is not a bomber. Trainer and LIFT. The SU-24 can in the with western fighters compared with the Tornado IDS. |
