PhonesWhy People Are Deleting Uber From Their Phones After Trump’s Executive Order by Mikeshiangala(op): 10:19pm On Jan 30, 2017
On Saturday night, thousands of protesters around the u.s flooded airports to speak out against
President Donald Trump’s newly signed executive order barring travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries.

The New York Taxi Workers Alliance quickly showed its support, calling on social media for drivers to avoid John F. Kennedy International Airport between 6 and 7 pm Eastern time on Saturday.

The ride-hailing app Uber, however, took a very different public-facing approach, saying at 7:36 pm on Twitter that it was lowering prices — by eliminating “surge pricing” — around JFK Airport.

Even though the surge pricing announcement came after the scheduled taxi strike, many people on social media took it to suggest that Uber was trying to break up or counteract the strike and acting in support of — or at least trying to profit off — Trump’s “Muslim ban.”

In response, the Twitter hashtag #DeleteUber quickly took off, with people posting screenshots of them deleting the Uber app from their phones.

Uber has since said that it wasn’t trying to come out in support of Trump’s executive order, break up the strike, or profit from the situation.

“We’re sorry for any confusion about our earlier tweet — it was not meant to break up any strike,” the company told Business Insider. “We wanted people to know they could use Uber to get to and from JFK at normal prices, especially last night.”

An Uber spokesperson also told Fortune that “the decision to turn off surge pricing was made specifically to avoid profiting from increased demand during the protest. The company has previously made a similar commitment to limiting surge pricing during disasters , after being accused of taking advantage of riders in times of need.”

Prior to the strike, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick spoke out against the executive order on Facebook. He also said that the company will financially compensate employees affected by the order — meaning those who are overseas and unable to reenter the US — during the at least three months the ban is active.
But the statement came out before the strikes, and it didn’t seem to mitigate much of the rage against the company.

Lyft, Uber’s main competitor, has meanwhile responded in a different way to Trump’s order,
vowing to donate $1 million to the American Civil Liberties Union, a civil rights group that is fighting the ban in court.
As of monday afternoon, people are still posting screenshots showing them deleting the Uber app off their phones.

PhonesDo You know What Your Phone Says About You? by Mikeshiangala(op):
I admit that the study might not be entirely accurate, but still, you can’t ignore the fact that the type of phone you own makes an impression on the people around you.

That said, here is what the different types of phone have to say about your personality.

Feature Phones

A feature phone is by definition a handset that lacks the ‘advanced functionality of a smartphone.’ Most would wonder why someone would buy basic handsets at a time when cheap smartphones are getting cheaper.

Cost reasons set aside, the two main reasons why one would own a feature handset is firstly, due to their age and second, is probably their preference of a minimalistic lifestyle.

Depending on your Age, owning a feature phone gives out the impression that you are either old-school or simply that you have a very low smartphone budget. It is, however, worthwhile to note that there some extremely wealthy individuals who strongly prefer feature phones.

Android Smartphones

The Android OS runs on over 80% of smartphones we have on the Planet. We have a very wide selection of Android smartphones and some ultra-cheap and while some are super expensive. The Android Operating system is unique in the sense it can accommodate everyone regardless of their purchasing power.

It is an open secret that the Android Smartphones are for creative rebels .
The Android Operating System is open source and this implies you can do some pretty amazing things with your Android Smartphone, stuff you can’t do on other platforms. This ranges from installing custom ROMs to downloading torrents.
With an Android Smartphone the question of ‘what can I do with my smartphone?’ is always open-ended, and this is the reason why millions of nerds love it.

iPhones

In the developed world, owning an iPhone is not much of a big deal, but back here in the developing world, an iPhone is less of a smartphone and more of a status symbol.

iPhones don’t come cheap, and don’t expect them to be cheaper anytime soon. The rich like exclusivity and the price tag of the iPhone in africa keeps most of those living on a budget away.

Apart from highlighting your income level (or perceived thereof), iPhones are generally for conformists, people who like following the rules to the latter.

The iOS (operating system running on iPhones) is very much restrictive and Apple dictates what you can and can’t do on your iPhone. What you can do on a jailbroken iPhone is simply what is by default available on an Android smartphone out of the box.

Blackberry Smartphones

There was a time when the Blackberry OS ran the Smartphone scene. Times have now changed and the Canadian vendor now has an embarrassingly low market share.

Owning a blackberry gives out the impression that you must be business executive or engaged in something related to that. The Blackberry OS has one of the best enterprise service, a reason why (some) corporates love it.

Windows Phone Smartphones

Microsoft is on a campaign to have as many people using their proprietary mobile operating system. Even though, the Windows OS runs on millions of PCs, the idea of it running on your smartphone is still new to some.

Right now most rush towards owning an Android, and thus it takes the desire to be different for someone to own a Windows Phone device. Owning a Windows Phone right now therefore, to some extent highlights that you are open to new experiences.

Also, the Windows Phone provides native support for Microsoft Office, the most post popular productivity suite on the planet. Therefore, owning a Windows Phone Smartphone can as well give the impression that you ‘mean business.’

What type of phone do you use? Is it a true representation of your personality?

PhonesMotorola Moto Mods Are Different by Mikeshiangala(op): 9:35pm On Jan 30, 2017
Motorola is one of the pioneers in telecommunications, having made the world's first commercially available mobile phone, the DynaTAC. That was in 1974, and over the years, Motorola's given the world some of the most memorable handsets in the business. A couple of decades and few ownership changes later today, the company is betting on "Mods" - aftermarket snap-on modular components that can add features such as a powerful speaker, optical zoom, or a projector.
Those are just the ones that the company has launched itself - Motorola has also created a Moto Mod Developer Kit (MDK) that any developer can use to create third-party modules for the Moto Z. To promote the Moto Mod developer ecosystem, Motorola is organising a series of MotoCollide events, the third of which (and the first in India) was held in Bengaluru last week. Gadgets 360 caught up with Stephen McDonnell, Senior Manager for the Moto Mods Ecosystem and Anuj Sharma, Marketing Head for Motorola India to talk about Moto Z and modular computing as a whole.

PhonesSony To Announce New Xperia Flagship Smartphone At MWC 2017 by Mikeshiangala(op): 7:29pm On Jan 30, 2017
Last year’s Xperia XZ was a respectable flagship smartphone, but it failed to turn the company’s image in the high-end phone market. Evidently, Sony is working on a flagship smartphone and the announcement will happen next month at the Mobile World Congress.

Rumours surrounding the next flagship from Sony have been doing the rounds for sometime. A report from Sumaho recently revealed the phone is codenamed ‘Yoshino’, and it will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor and a 4K 5.5-inch display.

It is said to feature Sony’s IMX400 image sensor, as well as 4GB/6GB RAM. However, reports have also said
Samsung has first dibs on Snadragon 835 so it will be surprising if the Sony flagship gets launched before the Galaxy S8.

Sony previously launched the world’s first smartphone featuring a 4K (3,840×2,160) display in the form of the Xperia Z5 Premium. Although there was a catch as the phone’s screen didn’t display 4K content all the time.
Reports also suggest Sony might unveil yet another premium smartphone that will feature either the Snapdragon 835 or possibly the Snapdragon 653 chipset and the same camera sensor as the Yoshino, barring the 4K resolution display. It will have a smaller 5-inch WQHD display, apparently.

Next up is the ‘Hinoki’, a 5-inch phone. It will reportedly carry a Helio P20 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and two cameras: 16MP and 8MP. The ‘Keyaki’ is claimed to come with a 5.2-inch FHD display, featuring a Helio P20 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal memory, and two cameras: 23MP and 16MP. Finally, there’s the ‘Mineo’, for which hardware specifications have not been leaked.

Last week, Sony sent out invitations for the special press event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Reports are claiming Sony will unveil at least five smartphones, featuring different specifications and at various price points.

besides mtk 64 bit upped their game with that SoC
True and i loved it.
But compare any Mediatek device with the latest Snapdragon 835.
I think i will get a gionee soon and see why you say its better than tecno...coz i've used tecno and other snapdragon devices including S7 and not gionee.

most of samsung products are hi end.
Any phone featuring Mediatek us a low to middle range phone
PhonesRe: Techno Or Gionee, Which Is The Stronger Phone? by Mikeshiangala(m): 9:33am On Jan 30, 2017
shakaZuIlu:
without sentiments tecno is not in gionee class

gionee now competes with Samsung and other known OEM there products are ip6 certified cool that's why you'll see gionee specs written on gsmarena

Talk of durability hmmmm you have to feel marathon m5

talk of premium look they have it

gionee now has good second hand value like Samsung
Say Whaaatttttt!!!!!!!

Gionee makes low to middle end smartphones and can never compare to such brands you've mentioned.

And the reason as to why Tecno never gets featured in GSM arena is because they are not global.
They mostly focus in africa and recently entered Dubai with a phone that even intimidates the Galaxy s7,
PhonesRe: Techno Or Gionee, Which Is The Stronger Phone? by Mikeshiangala(m): 9:25am On Jan 30, 2017
Gionee can't compare to Tecno.
Tecno is way better infact now stealing market shares from the big boys such as samsung, sony,LG,Lenovo etc etc

PhonesRe: Can A Windows Phone Be Rooted? by Mikeshiangala(m): 9:18am On Jan 30, 2017
Big YESSS!!!!

You can unlock the bootloader and root as well as seeing all insides of windows phone with a tool called Windows Phone Internals, which is obviously a bricking hazard.

A blog called WP Internals offers a tutorial to cracking open this opportunity and claims that it is enabled some flashing and other shenanigans. Proper exploitation will let users select from a range of ROMs or create custom ones.
PhonesRe: Android Vs Ios Which Is Better? by Mikeshiangala(m): 9:12am On Jan 30, 2017
The iphone is pure trash. Nearly every dropped phone results in a damaged screen. You are chained in to the itunes cage, which is the least user friendly platform ever created. In contrast, androids app store is better with more free options. The Galaxy S7 edge destroys any iphone to date. It is built better. It has a better screen. It has a far superior camera and takes superior video....

Even the late Note 7....were it not for the battery exploding, apple would have seen dust

Furthermore… no crappy itunes. You can do it all from the handset. Simple things like add or delete music without the poorly designed software, itunes. If you are an iphone user, get ready to switch. Eventually, android phones will put the stagnant, overrated Apple phone line in to extinction. Did I mention that you needn’t take your android to a pretentious store to have the battery replaced? Nope. You simply remove the rear cover and replace it yourself.

Android rocks!!!!!
