RomanceRe: Why are so many African marriages breaking up abroad?. by MILITIA(f): 2:25am On Jul 05, 2007
so many african marraige are breaking down abroad because a lot of Nigerian men wont leave their traditional way and get with the system. Number one, the system favors women more than men generally and some men don't know how to deal with that. Some still see marriage the way their father saw it years ago in Nigeria. guys! the rule has changed.

The rule states you have to help your way in some ways not just sitting your fat ass watching  TV while you expect your wife to labor away in the kitchen.

The worst part of this is guys that go to Nigeria to bring a wife to the west thinking they can still control them when they bring them here. It just doesnt happen again. There is a guy that I know that anytime he and his wife has a problem, he would threaten the wife that he would chase her out of of the house. Of course it didnt take time for the wife to know he couldnt do that and one heated situation one day the wife called 911 and he was bounced off the house. You have to be really close to the family to know what kind of verbal/emotional abuse the woman has been going through. Ordinarily people would say, "he brought her to the US, see how she treats him now". Not know the woman had no other choice but to do that.

I know someone that insisted his wife has to cook for him in the morning when the wife resumes work at like 6am and she had to leave home at around 5:15am to get to work. How unrealistic can that get. For her to get out of the house by she had to wake up like around 4am to get the kids ready while the father is sleeping away. What stops the hubby from preparing himself breakfast? for someone to wake up at around 4am, what time do u expect her to sleep to have enough rest? Of course, they started having trouble and the wife had to call police one day when it became too much for her - The people in Nigeria didnt understand too - Dont know how things work here.
Please are you available?  Any older brothers or uncles or nephews?  Let us talk please!  I think I might have someone for you if interested! grin

Donzman:
Whether you want to admit it or not, there has to be a head for any family/relationship to work.

Funny enough, family women with kids where I come from are looked on with much more respect than women here in the West. My people say, "Adi abuo gba izu, nwanyi bulu onye ato". Whatever part of Africa you're from where women are disrespected, not from my own part.

Women aren't treated with anymore decency out here unless if jumping from relationship to relationship is your definiton of decency and freedom.

RomanceRe: Why Do Some Nigerian Men/women Go Home To Pick Their Spouse? by MILITIA(f): 2:08am On Jul 05, 2007
@Topic

Yes oh! It is a very good idea to go to Nigeria and get a spouse. May not work in all cases but it is definitely an option.  Most people who have lived abroad for a long time just do not feel comfortable settling down with someone who has lived outside Nigeria too long!  The Irony is that they look at themselves in the mirror and are not happy with what they have become due to the "abuse" and "conflicts" encountered with "culture shock"!  MOST OF THE NIGERIANS LIVING ABROAD DO NOT TRUST THEMSELVES TO FALL IN LOVE AMONGST THEMSELVES! grin To much to handle in terms of frustrations living abroad!  A JJC in Nigeria will not know the deal till 2 kids later! grin Oops! Too late to turn back now----

The best thing is to start afresh!  It is a cleansing feeling about "going back to home base"!  Personally I will choose to marry someone from Nigeria first than marry a "damaged" good from here.  By damaged I mean mentally abused by a foreign culture most are struggling to understand---especially if you were not born abroad.   In America for example, the system can be very brutal and so you need to get some relief from something different than what you are use to dealing with on a daily basis abroad.  Let us just say it is a psychological mind bender! cool

PoliticsRe: Northern Ambassador Tells Host Country That Nigerian Criminals Are Southerners by MILITIA(f): 11:58pm On Jul 04, 2007
Kazaure:
@davidlyan

I am shocked that when a topic that points the finger at southerners is presented, ethnic jingoist like davidlyan stay mute. Haba davidlyan with all your blogging and "surutu" ya na ji ka yi shuru ne?

It was an improper statement by the ambassador. Insensitive also but It is true that most crimes that are publicized involve the name of a southerner unfortunately. Yet when I travel and carry the Nigerian passport nobody checks to see that I am from Kano or Katsina they see the Naija label. We must continue to speak against 419'ers and thieves that give us all a bad name southern or not.

I also think that the argument that southerners are forced to 419 or other illicit activities internationally because northerners have looted the country is absolutely ludicrous. I know for a fact that there are southerners in London and the US from privileged families (that arguably also looted) that still do credit card fraud and 419. It should be an issue the southern society should confront head on to understand why youths embark on these sorts of activities regardless of status.

@Bankole01

you're gravely misinformed. Northerners don't come to do menial tasks, don't make this an issue of competing in American society

My mother and father are Harvard Alum

and I work for a fortune 500 company in the US

We are from the Heart of the City, Kano fam who want it?

El Rufai is a Harvard Graduate and go find out about what Isa Odidi is doing in Canada

Do not begin to make this an intellectual argument you can be crushed, tsk, idiot

@ Danmasani holla at the kid whats good for your side?

Yar Adua , its the new thing, Allah taimaka!

I beg make una see better write up!  See Oyinbo flowing fluently!  Constructive and to the point!  Not emotional garbage!    Kazuare, nice job!

Danmasani:
Aisha, It's good to avoid heated debates like this, but I will not lay idle in this forum and watch people spread malicious lies and concoted information about my heritage. Kazaure has said it all. No Nigerian, North or South benefits in any way when fraud or 419 is done under our passports. The Foreigner does not care if we are from the North or south, he sees us the same. It is a problem we all must tackle. But I believe that like every other problem, it should start from the grassroots. 419 is a predominantly southern thing- no denial here. It's fight must therefore start from the family. People who know that such perpetrators must advise against it.
The analogy of placing the brunt of the issue on the doorstep of the North- saying years of maladmistration by successive governments has pushed people till today in commiting fraudulent acts is a biased statement and sparks no truth. You can choose to live upright in the face of trials and tribulations or you could whimper and take the path of shameless robbery and trickery!

At Kazaure- Baba wetin dey happen now?
I say na una really get Nigeria! grin  You are right!  Avoiding these heated debates is a very necessary goal!  Please keep up the good work!  I am sick and tired of these people here with serious self denial and emotional politics---highly contagious!  Love your level of reasoning!  Please teach most parts of Nigeria please!  It is nice to read from more level-headed folks around here without personal attacks!  Please can you guys feature more on this forum so people like us can see things from other perspectives.  This place is getting so boring with personal attacks! I say I sorry for Nigeria!

RomanceRe: Cohabitation: Will You Do It? by MILITIA(f): 11:35pm On Jul 04, 2007
RuuDie:
@ Luxoire / Militia

i don't quite dig this your theory of "your space" being a defining factor of co-habitation. everybody has such periods where they w'anna preserve "their space"; it ain't a permanent thingy - one sec, you w'anna have people around you, the next you w'anna go solo; it happens to everybody !

but when you talk about co-habitation, which simply translates to living together (in our instance here) as spouses - the "space" thing doesn't count. why ? c'os its simply something you got without even having to ask for it.

it all boils down to how much you and your partner like each other, how much you understand each other, how much you can tolerate each other; when he/she's moving, in the last thing on your mind's g'onna be how to work-out "your space" management ! i mean, we're not talking room-mates at school or stuff like that.

MILITIA, like i said; if you really valued "your space" more than anything else in this world - you'd be single !
Okay oh!  I will announce when I get divorced  to prove to you that "my space" is important! grin
