The problem with our guys is that fantasy than reality they travel with. Then again they look down on some professions as beneath them. I have seen guys who do well as social worker. As a matter if fact, black social workers are in high demand cos the authority will prefer to send them to black homes. But, that is beneath some of them.
Psychology is a no no. Nursing is for ladies.
Roadside mechanics makes more than some executives but it is also beneath them.
What about truck drivers. Or is it rail work of all kind.
Everybody want to work in IT and be a Dr.
Iffa I hear.

Some are very smart and switched over. There are do many untapped opportunities if they will put their ego aside.
No mind them, reason I don't feel any empathy for most of our people with such mindset.

I think the problem is too many Nigerians are focused on papers for their sake, and not for what they can actually use them for. I literally had a guy working for me who has a PMP certificate, but I have never seen the person prepare any project documentation.

The first thing any employer is looking for is actual value.
I have a friend who did his Masters in Construction Management here in the UK and has been doing care jobs since graduation, he said he is going back to studies part time , to do both NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 in electrical installation that his Polish housemate who had never entered a university before, is earning way much higher than him as an electrician and boiler maintenance man.

To think psychology is something I enjoy too. Thank you for your response.

And one more thing Bro, can you recommend schools with the said Msc Psychology (Conversation).
Almost all the Unis in the UK offers Msc Psychology (conversion), just make sure the course page says it has British Psychological Society accreditation.

I will suggest Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool as their fees is still okay at £13,000 for the 2024/25 academic year resuming in October.

Greetings to you Sir.

I would like to know

What are the courses you would advice one to go for, for easy integration into the system. Though I have an engineering certificate as a first degree here in Nigeria. Enlighten me
To have a higher chance of getting the 5 years skilled worker visa after studies, an accredited Msc Psychology (conversion) for those who don't have an undergraduate degree in psychology) will increase your chances as there is huge demand for professionals in the mental health field.....this is my field here in the UK.

Is it the same person who did MSc in Finance at Huddersfield? Because you mentioned MBA this time. And if the person is different, which university did this MBA dude study at?
You still remember my Huddersfield guy? cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

This is a different guy, Coventry University and e sure me die that 70% that got enrolled into that University's MBA programs and Msc International Business Management between 2021 and early 2023 were Nigerians just as that University's Msc Global Health Management was the exclusive sure plug for Indian healthcare professionals: doctors, dentists, pharmacists, ophthalmologist etc to japa through student route, a course that was overpopulated as every 3 months, over a hundred of Indian healthcare professionals were trooping into Coventry for the course. Theirs makes sense as it was a transition route towards their professional accreditation to practice in the UK.

Ask Nigerians that did their Msc here in the UK, how many of their course mates were British?

Anyone here in the UK with a NVQ Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to OND) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering ·will get employed before a Nigerian who obtained Msc Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Go to many factories and warehouses in the UK and see many Nigerian Msc graduates working as packers to earn their honest daily bread with Eastern Europeans whey no enter university for one day, as their supervisors and managers. ·

So far according to the UK threads, there are no jobs. Everyone cannot leave their career path to become a children social care worker, besides the 38k requirement is also an issue.
Let them wait at home while applying for their dream career jobs with their Nigeria certificates or degrees gotten in the UK that gives little chances for employment nor visa sponsorship. Let them not be realistic and get job roles that would give them higher chances for the skilled worker visas and grow career wise in that field., after 5 years and getting their indefinite leave to remain, they are free to pursue any career path of their choice.

Advised a Nigerian back in May, 2022 to take up an opportunity as a children residential support worker that offered a FREE 5 years skilled worker visa, he said he can't that he would be graduating with a MBA in July 2022, his UK student visa would expire in September 2022 and hoped on getting a post study work visa that would expire October 2024, he strongly believed he would get a corporate job here in the UK based on his investment banking experience + UK Masters......April 28th, 2024.....Bros, is still working as a security guard at a warehouse in Coventry, depressed as time is ticking and contemplated seeking asylum in Ireland after someone earlier this year scammed him of £8,700, promising to get him a care visa and he could not report to the police.

You are in a foreign land....be realistic, start somewhere!

Just like NYSC, you are not meant to be posted to where you are from, where both parents are from, where you lived or schooled, or where you have visited and spent considerable time.

You are meant to go to a strange place.

Living in Lagos reduced your sister's chances. The experience is better appreciated by an Imo indigene who doesn't have family in Lagos.

When she applied, using a Lagos address alone will make it difficult for her.
But her primary 6 classmate in the same primary school, who is from Kaduna State was given admission into Queens College with far lesser mark.

My family owns a school in Lagos and one of our former pupils whose state of origin is Abia state, made it into Queens College, Lagos.

When I wrote my common entrance exam, I came 3rd in Alimosho Local Government back then, I actually selected FGC Ijankikan and I was granted the admission, however regimental life called me. I feel your sis was just unfortunate, most of my peeps then got the schools they selected.
She was one of the tops in Shomolu local government back then, she was just unlucky but glad she still excelled academically, now a Reverend Sister with her Doctorate in Psychology. wink

So your sister lives in Lagos and probably from the South West and you expected Queens college to be easy?

Do you even know what Unity school is? Do you know the aims and objectives of the schools.

I am above 40, even before this age I correct and lecture my parents on things they don't know or are wrong about.

If your parents don't understand, you should try to understand and let them know it's expected.

Let me tell you the most difficult admission to get, it is more difficult to get a unity school in your own state. It's by design.

Just because Queens college is in Lagos doesn't mean they will fill it up with people from Lagos.
We are from Imo state

the kids are below 7 and 3 respectively ...and she was in the south south part of Nigeria there with him.
She shouldn't go back to a death trap called marriage nor even think of getting pregnant for him again, hoping to birth a boy....red flags rarely turn green.

She should approach any of the welfare office in their state of residence, for them to facilitate co-parenting and him, making provisions for the children and possible visitations.

End of marriage, is not end of life.....let her refocus, there is so much to look forward to without that dark cloud of toxic marriage, hovering over her.

Is this really cutoff mark or number of students to be admitted? I don't want to believe the 4, 2 and 9 I am seeing there.
It means a girl from Zamfara that scores 15 when their state's cut off mark is 2, is an academic genius and Queens College, Lagos sure for am, while the girl from Abia states needs to score a minimum of 130 to even be considered admission into other Federal government colleges BUT certainly NOT Queens College Lagos, she no reach! cheesy cheesy

My eldest sister is still unhappy till date for not getting Queens College despite scoring what is equivalent to 181 in the present scoring system because she is from Imo state and many girls also scored high + slots reserved for politician pikins back then. cheesy

States that have the facilities to accommodate more students will definitely have a lower cut-off mark.

The low cut-off in the north is to encourage people to go to school.

So if Lagos has a lower cut off mark compare to Anambra, it means Lagos have the capacity to accommodate more students. Unity schools are state owned. Hope you know?
Unity schools are Federal government owned colleges, abi you no do national common entrance?

My eldest sister scored 543 when it was over 600 and Imo state had the highest cut off mark of 527 back then.

She passed the subsequent interview but was not given admission to her first choice of Queens College, Lagos nor her second choice FGC Ijanikin as my parents wanted her to remain in Lagos....dem post am go FGC Sokoto but her classmate from Kaduna who scored less than 450 got admitted into Queens College...my parents said thunder fire Federal Ministry of Education and refused the admission, got my sister enrolled in a day secondary school in Lagos 😂😂😂
