They would with much engagement. I remember when I did a project in a public primary school some years back in Lagos, a good number of the girls from primary 4 to 6 were househelps and there was a particular girl in primary 5 who was brought into the headmistress office where I was discussing with her, the girl had belt marks all over body because she resisted being inappropriately touched at home.

The headmistress took it very personal, that the ministry of education have had series of trainings on supporting children who are being abused and how to identify it. So the headmistress took details of where the perpetrator worked and his phone number and I recollect them trying to get a govt agency to come pick the girl up because she was not to go back home.

Such interventions needs to be more institutionalized, so young ones would have confidence in reporting abusers.

I was discussing recently with someone that, there is need to have NGOs in Nigeria, that visits public primary and secondary schools in urban areas where most of minors who are househelps, attend school. They should liase with the school management to continually offer talks to the young ones on sexual exploitation at home and give them numbers they call when they find themselves in inappropriate situations.

I have come to the conclusion that having a president from your tribe or region or even your religion is not the cure for poverty and criminality in in your state, tribe or the nation in general, but having a God fearing and humanity loving man or woman in in power irrespective of his tribe or religion, even gender.

How can over 70% of past Nigeria presidents came from the North, yet the region's poverty index is always on the high side? So all the fight to be in power has zero impact on the standard of living of average northerner. The bottom line, the elites will continue to loot the national treasure, while the poor masses will continue to sing and defend them just because he/she from my tribe/religion. Its disheartening.

Going by the data the Federal Government released last year, the region with least involvement in national politics which is the Southeast, is the least poor zone while Northwest that has produced Shagari, Abacha Yar'dua, Buhari are the poorest zone in Nigeria.

Over dependence on politics gives a false sense of power, makes people become less self-reliant but when you know say nobody send you, you invest in your hustle and grind.
