He has been on it for decades, stopping will be very difficult. With his children already grown up, there is no longer any motivation to quit. The only time he would temporarily quit is whenever he is on admission in a hospital and would continue when discharged.

Why are most people here making it look like you just wake up and start beating a child for no reason? Of course no one in their right senses would do that. However, I feel it's necessary to employ flogging as a measure of correction when a child is being unruly and obstinate. However, temperance should be observed when meting out such punishment.

Children have the tendency to grow wild and beyond control if not tamed in time. I am product of moderate flogging and it has helped shaped my life for the better.

I once left my after school lessons and ran home to watch Robinhood. That day marked the beginning of the end of running away from lessons as my dad flogged the hell out of my body that day. It made me take my studies seriously.

So a little flogging here and there is not bad.

As a teacher, should you find yourself working in a Country where you dare not beat a child, what will you do when a pupil is being unruly and obstinate?

make dem send dem go rehabilitation homes...they need to be saved. they are monsters in waiting. in this age, i wonder why schools charge so much but still wont have counsellors/therapists/psychologists that students can confide in as housemasters...u charge parent so much money but still make classroom teachers housemasters.

Some schools that wants to be seen to be offering it, use one of their subject teachers as the counsellor and this is so very wrong as such dual relationship puts off students. People who go further to do their Master of Arts in School Counseling are not joking.

Has the beating many Nigerians received during childhood translated to a more humane society, a less angry society, do we have less kidnapping, ritual killings, fraud, corruption, runs etc?

It seems childhood beating did not instill morals in many but succeeded in repressing them who later become wolves!

It is having sex with minor irrespective of gender but the society most times tend to regard is a non issue when the minor is male. Even here on NL many males who had sexual contacts with adult females when they were minors themselves tend to trivalize the sexual crime against them by hailing themselves of being "studs" even as minors and also do get "hailed" by other male members.

Still talking about minors, sexual offences prosecution tends to be discriminating against the boy child where both the boy and girl involved in the sexual act are minors, the girl is being regraded as the victim while the boy, the abuser.

A good lawyer would argue the 16 year old boy way out of impending imprisonment focusing on him also being a minor and about the same mental capacity of the girl involved but sadly if you go to the prisons, you are likely to see guys under18 serving terms for statutory rape.
