Contrary to your opinion, WB actually promoted Joker to the high heavens. It's one of the few marketing genius done by WB in recent years.

WB carried the film to Cannes festival, Venice film festival and it won the Golden Lion. They promoted the hell of that movie once it gained critical acclaim on those festival. And remember how WB was taking it to all the available film festivals and the standing ovations we heard it earned almost every month leading to its release.

Let's not forget Joker had tremendous marketing months before it even debuted with peeps shouting that stupid talk of it "inciting incels and possibly lead to violence on premiere weekend".
Joker release was very controversial then, I don't even think Ezra Miller issue came close to that.

Remember the big negative marketing campaign some Hollywood critics did back then few weeks to the film release and remember the accusations of Disney paying them to discredit the movie then.

Such talks prompted the public to go watch it for themselves. It becomes very evident if you look at the rotten tomatoes score for the movie and how it ironical was up for best movie at the Academy and winning Best Actor.
Please don't compare Joker controversy with Ezra Miller. Joker is a fictional character and a film about mental health. Ezra Miller literally was a criminal fronting a movie. He kidnap kids and was grooming them, he choked a woman. He went on the run.
Apologies for being wrong about the Joker not being marketed but my point is, Superman Legacy can be a huge profit with minimal and strategic marketing.

Bale saw the script and said, "You dey whine me ni"
I mean it would have ruined Nolan's franchise lol. Thank God he said no. Come to think of it, in a better world, Bale would have sold the film better than Michael Keaton and minus Ezra Miller.
Nothing against Keaton but bringing him back was more to do with nostalgia of the past.

I was skeptical about this movie being a success, but Abduleez was so confident in it that made me feel nothing could stop the movie from being a success, fast-forward to today people are still trying to figure out what exactly went wrong.
A lot went wrong for it. Starting with the lead actor. Should have had him off the project after he choked a woman. But hey, if he weren't part of the rainbow movement, he would have been fired.
TV/Movies / Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys: 9:09pm On Jun 24, 2023
Let's be honest here, if Joker can gross 1bill with minimal marketing, why won't Superman Legacy make profit with minimal marketing?
Let's face it, a film that's going to make money must be ready to defend itself. Most movies that require too much hyping are either of less known characters whose marketing budget is higher than production budget or films the studio know is hard to sell or not that good.
You don't need to do too much promotion for a Superman film. Let's be honest, too much marketing most times turn people off. It has adverse effects on the target that they will want to expect greater quality from that product, and if it's less, their word of mouth would end up negative. The Flash movie had celebrities like Tom Cruise hyping it as a film that changes narrative, test screen audiences hyped it up as the dark Knight level of quality.
Sometimes less is more. Superman Legacy doesn't need James Gunn or those involved hyping it up 24/7. Let the media do it, and be strategic about the marketing.
You can actually make a Superman film with a 175million budget. (Have a good story, minimize the use of high profile Hollywood stars, minimize excessive advertising. It can be done. You really don't need too much CGI if practical FX can be visible)
A film that will make profit will make profit.

This is a massive dub....

Aquaman 2 isn't in the DCU just like Blue Beetle isn't. These are just corporate talk not to de-market the movie who feel less invested since the universe is ending.

Blue Beetle will be the first character for the DCU but it doesn't mean its in the DCU since it was finished filming even before Gunn became president. And there have been no reshoots.

Although, it can be worked out in the future to fit into the DCU, since it was produced mainly as a standalone and far removed from the dead DCEU.
I already told him not to believe that but you know, I don't want to keep pushing the argument. If Aquaman is in it, why let go of Gadot, Cavill and Affleck?
I really no get strength to dey argue on the matter jare. Anyone can believe what they want.

John Campea wey dey mostly talk through his @ss. That werey wey be anti DC.
Person wey don admit before say Disney pay am money for good reviews.

Abeg, make him swerve.
There's still a lot of time between now and Superman Legacy release so I wouldn't be that pessimistic. Besides it's James Gunn. If they can properly market it with them making sure people know it's from Gunn, maybe just maybe it would improve the film's stock.

It's still very early days to be predicting doom and gloom.
My advice to WB, and James Gunn. They should let Legacy sell itself. No too much marketing like they have been fond of. Gunn should shut up and stay off the media. Release the first trailer 6 months to release. The second one 3 months to and the 3rd,three weeks to release. Release just 3 TV spots.
They don't have to make all the money in the first week or opening day. If a movie is good, people will go to cinemas to see it again and again.
Besides they should have lower expectations and make a forecast of 450 million dollars gross.
Let the film be itself and breathe. Let it defend itself. Enough with the multiple test screenings. Sign everyone involved to secrecy, stay off media and reduce presence. This is reverse marketing. Let the media do the marketing and publicity for them without wasting money on hype and stuff.
In fact the first DCU films should follow this pattern. Building too much hype ends up ruining the experience. And people will be less forgiving of flaws in such films considering the over marketing before hand.

How about Nikolaj Coster Waldau. Jamie Lannister of Game Of Thrones? If you want to start with the DCU on a clean slate, I would rather start with actors who haven't been associated with the superhero genre before.

Only thing the movie needs is good word of mouth. Many people that rushed to see the movie first were just haters and with the trend DC has been on many Loyal fans were just being cautious.
I think if more people come out and squash this nonsense talk of bad CGI and incoherent story the movie will gain some legs.
Bro, the CGI was bad. It's not nitpicking. It was really bad. Could take you out of the film unless you are used to the CW series.

Who was the Villain?

We'll know for sure if the haters were really the ones that saw it first when 2nd week numbers drop.
The villain was terrible that if we cut him from the movie, it still won't affect it. In fact there was no villain. However if you watched The Flash season 3, you will understand what they wanted to do.

There's many things going against the movie but I'm still in doubt the significance of Ezra Miller on the film underperforming.

Here's my stand on it. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡But in coming weeks I'd properly gauge the impact of it all and Ezra issues.
The many fan screenings were because WB didn't trust what they made. They wanted to build early hype. This led to over exposure of the whole thing.

They knew the film can't stand on its own and Ezra could not market it. If I blame Snyder for a lot of things, casting Ezra Miller tops the list.
TV/Movies / Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys: 6:24am On Jun 20, 2023

This is what I'm hoping for.
Na haters rush go watch that film first to dampen it's word of mouth.

There's still small hope to salvage the movie. WB needs to pump out IMAX screens for this film ASAP.
And it has good word of mouth in China and Japan.
They just need to spread the word to potential movie goers.
Tell me you don't believe that. haters rushing to go see a film to dampen it's word of mouth? Come on. Isn't that a stretch?
If a film is good, it stands for itself. The Flash had many issues. Miller was a PR nightmare and on the news for a lot of reasons which removed interest towards seeing the movie for a lot of people. Instead they wanted to wait for those who saw it to give thoughts on it. The film didn't help in that it had a lot of negative vibes going into it i.e reshoots, ever changing endings, and yea, it had characters contemporary folks didn't care about lol. Michael Keaton as Batman to sell a 2023 film? Lol. Film would have made more if they used Robert Pattinson or Christian Bale.
The film didn't sell itself by taking viewers out of it with poor CGI.

The CW series may have done more harm than good as recently it has taken people off the flash character in a way. Or perhaps some other negative effect.
In general the film was entertaining but not that special. The nostalgia for super hero films are dwindling and to sell it, you need to be unique. Like the Boys.

Test screenings don't determine the performance of the film, recent happenings in Hollywood attest to that.

But Aquaman 2 will perform well although its possibility of grossing a billion is low, but it will make a minimum of $700M. It will take the path of Black Panther 2.

This whole DCEU mess wouldn't have happened if WB hadn't ran from the initial plan they intended with Man of Steel franchise. Film grossed $660mill but WB were greedy to bring in the Trinity in what was supposed to be a sequel to MOS.
Had they done a true sequel to MOS, they would have known what they wanted going forward. But hey, they wanted a JL immediately.

I also don't like Hoult for Superman. He's too broody.
I'd prefer David Corenswet even tho I haven't watched him perform. πŸ™ƒ

Anyways, these castings does have their fans and some people excited by the outcome.
James Gunn has been doing good so far in terms of creatives joining his universe.
My own is, any actor coming should play Clark Kent and Superman as two separate persons like Christopher Reeves did. We should be given the idea of why people don't see Superman while looking at Clark. I don't mean making Clark too bumbling or a fool but distinct to Kal El. Recent iteration haven't gotten that. Cavill basically just played Superman and not Clark, same with Tyler Hoechlin but Hoechlin is better than Cavill in making Clark somehow different but he still didn't do enough.

Test screenings doesn't determine the performance of films. There are movies with good test screenings that ended up performing badly and vice versa.

When the movie releases, we will know if it will perform well or not. But my bet is on the movie performing. I see it making a minimum of $700M. The possibility of it grossing a billion dollar will be low, but it will perform well. I see the Black Panther 2 scenario here.

And talking about being retained, Aquaman is already been retained. Aquaman 2, according to Gunn, is in the DCU. Its event is set after flash, and post flash era is the DCU.

When the test screenings are bad, there usually is a problem with the film, which will call for rewrites and multiple reshoots. Even then, things might still be problematic. I have never heard of films that tested bad in screenings but ended up loved. Test screenings are for public viewers not critics by the way.

I hope Gunn gives details on the "rough memories" as regarding movies, characters and elements in movies. It's very vital. But I know that Aquaman, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker will be retained in the DCU. These might be the only movies that will be retained, or there might be others also.

I solidly support this.

Almost zero goodwill. This Flash performance is overly surprising to me I'm still coming to gripes how it failed to resonate with audiences. It's not as If it's a bad movie.

People I would have loved to keep in the upcoming DCU are Robbie, Amanda, Cena and Sasha Calle, .
The rest should be rebooted. And when I say reboot, with this atomic bomb size of flop the flash is receiving, then James Gunn should just go for a HARD REBOOT.
It's over.

Let's just start afresh and not confuse future audience and totally leave the baggage of the previous regime.
I called this out years back but I was seen as being negative.
They should have just let the DCEU get it's perfect ending before rebooting. The Flash film could have been that. They should have made the JL2 and let The Flash end it all. The 2 films would have fetched them money and Goodwill. now they will be looking to get that from the DCU and The Flash and Shazam 2 have shown movie audiences no longer trust the brand.
Superman Legacy might end up not making the money they're thinking.

I'm not even believing this bullshit. James is too versed in comic lore to make this schoolboy error.
After all, Zatanna is one of James Gunn's favourite female characters.

With the way James is going with his universe, I don't even see an actor being looked at or casted before even a writer or director is attached to such project.

The only people being casted or screentested at present are people potentially to be in Superman Legacy.
Nicholas Hoult as Superman? Hmmn, we better have a Superman who isn't a Clark Kent in the cape or a Kal El in glasses. Since Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh, the recent films have no longer tried to hide Superman's identity. I mean it's ridiculous now when you have Clark standing tall like Superman and have the same voice as Superman.
They should make them different. Supes should have a different accent i.e typical American or British, something different from Clark's.

Na premium waste to use Reverse Flash in a reboot movie of a dead franchise.

Better keep him proper for the DCU.

I just dey use style happy say dem no debut some of my loved and fave characters for this recent DCEU films like Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, Lady Shiva, Circe, Hecate etc.

At this point, there's really no guarantee that the DCU will even reach 10 films. And in those 10 films,I doubt certain characters will even show up lol.
WB are always selling itself. If Zaslav doesn't get his profits, there are reports WBD will sell off again.

DC's only hope is for another company to buy them off from Warner Bros. At this stage, it's rinse and repeat.

It was a mistake announcing things too early. Again WB management have made very poor business decisions.
I still maintain they should have found a way to monetize the Snyder verse and give it it's perfect conclusion while slowly building hype for a rebooted universe. They created more damage casting everyone out while knowing there are films yet to be released.

This will place unnecessary pressure on the Gunnverse and trust me if the first 2 projects don't make bank, the whole thing is dead. And bye bye to DC films, hello Harry Potter franchise.

WBD want to make quick money as it is now and recent actions have already made them infamous.

Tbh I love RF too much to have him wasted on a DCEU film as a mere plot device to help reset the timeline.

I rather he shows up for the first time in DCU.

He is a very good villain with way more potential. A good writer/director will get the best out of him.
I agree with you in one way and same time, I also disagree. There are multiple layers to RF and The Flash which can be exploited in different versions. I mean, there are already multiple Lex Luthors on TV and in film.

The last good DCEU movie I can think of is TSS and that was 2 years ago.

Since The Flash is ending the DCEU, I think it's better as they did not introduce him in the movie. For me I don't want a situation where we will get to see two version of him within a short space of time and the next thing we will be seeing will be the heavy comparison among who's the better one.
There's already bound to be a comparison. The CW versions.

While I believe this is the way to go for the new Swamp Thing movie and I'm not bothered how they go about it so far as they deliver great quality storywise and as well as practical effects which the show excelled in.

Minemrys has a point and I understand him. The storytelling in that show was top notch as well as acting & CGI and actually nailing the eerie feeling of Swamp Thing universe. It's one of the GOATED shows DC has ever produced and I rate it after Watchmen series in terms of premium quality. The price of the show was it's downfall.

Anyways, early news I got from the upcoming movie is that cast members for the movie are returning. So far no drastic changes are made at least we can expect the Allec Holland and Abby Arcane actors as well as the villain. It was great storytelling and world building they were telling then with the possible link ups with Madame Xanadu and Blue Devil.

The interconnectedness of the Swamp Thing Universe is why I love the upcoming projects and praise James Gunn for his vision (even tho it may seem I d|Β’krid€ his plans at times). πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

You get. The series sef wasn't aligned with any universe when it aired sef. They had already built up the characters that it will be easier to just get on with moving forward the narrative than reintroducing the characters in a new telling.
