We have to be honest with ourselves and not be blinded by clout chasing.
NDDC has been around for years with their corrupt riddled nature. Why has no previous govt think of exposing the corruption there?
But this govt is doing exactly that and we are still saying it the FG's fault.
Even if it's its failure, at least we have to commend it for unearthening it.
What do we want exactly?
We want an end to corruption but whenever we hear the FG exposing it we still blame them.
I'm certain that Buhari didn't put people their to go and steal. If he had , he won't be exposing them

I wonder why blacks are always aggressive knowing the history of the trigger happy white police.

The guy shot had a knife in his hand before attempting to get something in his car before been shot at the back after been ordered to stop .

The police man will be let go as he can claim self defense.

It's just a pity he lost his life over nothing.

Fucking listen to instructions from people with gun

How hard is that.

The police man is a psycho though. Shot him 7 times from the back.
He did not have a knife in his hand.
A knife was found at on the floor of the driver side of his car after the shooting.
Before the shooting while walking to his car he wasn't armed with any weapon

The work of the journalist is to "uncover" and not to "ask seemingly embarrassing questions". It is understandable if the person being asked questions gets embarrassed but that is never the aim of journalism. Journalism is game of tact, the journalist must be unassuming and must ask unambiguous questions. To get the truth from people, the journalist blocks every exit route by first building his premise and then following up with trailing questions that cannot be avoided based on the pre-established premise. It's similar to litigation but less aggressive. Asking "who is sponsoring who (or "you"wink" when no premise has been built on the subject of "sponsoring" is not in any way smart. It creates room for the person to avoid the question.

Nigerians don't condemn things based on logic but mostly based on their relationship with the people involved. FFK has many foes so the fact that people are not condemning the journalist is nothing to go by. Besides, like I said earlier, FFK overreacted thus taking the attention away from the the journalist's poor skills.
You can't impose a particular tactic on every journalist. There is a reason why we are told to think outside the box.
Many famous journalist are renowned for being fierce and asking blunt questions. It all depends on the mentality of the person they're asking. FFK is full of himself.
FFK had been to Zamfara, Anambra and now Cross Rivers. He has never been seen in a law court before. He was minister 13 years ago. Who is bankrolling such VIP trip
is a relevant question. (Maybe you can tell me how else to ask it).
I only blame that man and other journalist there.
Read below how other journalist treated a whole American president when they felt he was racial profiling an Asian -American journalist cos if a question she asked.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2020/05/trump-testy-asian-american-reporter-media-briefing-200512001527879.html

Journalist have to be united in standing up for each other in Nigeria not preoccupied with a brown envelope.
PoliticsRe: Eyo Charles: Femi Fani-Kayode Speaks On Incident With Daily Trust Journalist by Minjim: 12:08am On Aug 26, 2020

A straight Yes or No to "who is bankrolling you?". That was not a Yes or No question. Stupid is not the only insult out there. That question already suggested the man was being bankrolled. Amanpour would not ask "who is bankrolling you?" if it hasn't been established that the former senator was being bankrolled, never. She'd rather first ask if he was being sponsored before moving on to who is doing that. And that's where a simple Yes or No would have been perfect. If you want to be a tough journalist, learn how to prepare soft landings for yourself. Journalism involves a lot of intelligence and fast thinking, this guy didn't employ any of those. FFK over reacted but the journalist's question was not carefully thought out. We are just refusing to see it cause any opportunity to lash out at someone we don't like is welcome.
It's the work of every journalist to ask seemingly embarrassing questions.
You either answer or decline. Simple!
There is nothing wrong with the question. Ffk himself asked to be asked any form of questions that he's equal to the task.

The journalist only disappointed me by not standing his ground.
As a journalist, you must be prepared. You mustn't be intimidated. You have to be aware of just who you are, what you are, what you know, what you bring to the table and what you deserve. Don’t be apologetic.
I doubt if you are a journalist anyway.

The video circulated was carefully edited to show only the outburst and not what led to it. However, FFK claimed the man's statement was "who is bankrolling who" while the journalist himself said his question was "who is bankrolling you?". Whichever one, it is still very tactless. You haven't established he is being bankrolled and you're asking who is bankrolling him. That's a whole lot of assumption and insinuation.
FFk was here saying it's not a question.
But in the video he was screaming " what type of stupid question is that?"

Did the man call Ffk stupid?
Did he insult FFk?
If FFk knew he couldn't stand scrutiny why did he call a press interview?
Many journalists have ask presidents directly embarrassing question and they find a way to dodge it. Go watch Amanpour.
A straight Yes or No would have done.
But being the delinquent he is he had to act condescending by insulting and intimidating the journalist.
That embarrassment was not only directed at that man but to all journalist.
Wait for NUJ's response.

Seun will ask a 'productive' question. This journalist spoke like a tout under the bridge. He could have tactfully asked the same question leaving the man with no option than to answer but instead, he said "we don't know who is bankrolling who". FFK overreacted but the journalist needs some further training.
Did you see the video of the said question?

MAYOWAAK:
Fani-Kayode’s Attack on Daily Trust Reporter: Our Stand

The management of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust and other titles, would like to condemn the reprehensible actions of Femi Fani-Kayode, who in a video clip now gone viral, verbally assaulted – repeatedly – our reporter, Eyo Charles in the course of doing his job. The encounter occurred in Calabar, Cross River State, in the morning of Thursday 20, August 2020 at a hotel, during a roundtable with invited journalists.

During the roundtable, Charles asked Fani-Kayode who was bankrolling his recent trips around Nigeria, to which the ex-minister responded with a raised voice, insults, and eventually a threat to inflict bodily harm on our reporter. The barrage continued for some minutes, while bewildered journalists, including our reporter, looked on.

The video clip, also released on one of the ex-minister’s social media accounts, was conveniently edited to exclude the question asked by Charles, totally devoid of mischief, simply sought clarification and information, like good journalism should. Said editing paved the way for a social media lynch mob to rain expletives on our reporter, labelling him as ‘rude’. This could not be further away from the truth, and we stand by Charles, and commend him for his calmness during the ordeal.

Daily Trust reporters are responsible professionals, who uphold the tenets of journalism, as well as best practices.

That Fani-Kayode attacks a reporter doing his job, is an indication of the chilling disregard he has towards the media, and its work in investigating and reporting on issues. As always, we stand in solidarity with our reporters, and will continue to fight for the rights of all journalists. After all, journalism is part of the bedrock of democracy; therefore practitioners must not be intimidated or threatened as they carry out their work.

We urge the Nigeria Police to take note, that if anything happens to Charles, Daily Trust will hold Fani-Kayode responsible, especially due to the intensity of the verbal threats he issued during the shocking incident.

The actions of Fani-Kayode are not only reprehensible, but also constitute a setback to press freedom, in a most dire form. This kind of assault raises major concerns over the safety of journalists in Nigeria.

Daily Trust is a completely independent media organisation that does not pander to the whims of any individual or group, no matter how powerful or well-placed in society. We will continue to serve Nigerians – and indeed the world – with quality, reliable reportage, no matter whose ox is gored.

Signed

Naziru Mikailu Abubakar

Executive Director/Editor-in-Chief
I also expect NUJ to make a public statement on this matter
