POLITICSOyo guber: Don’t waste N22.5m, APC will pick consensus candidate – Ajimobi warns aspirantsPublished on September 5, 2018 By Wale Odunsi

Govenor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said that he would in conjunction with some leaders of Alł Progressives Congress (APC) meet with aspirants of the party on Saturday to pick consensus governorship and other elective candidates.

He stated that it would be wrong to encourage governorship aspirants to waste 22.5 million naira on nomination forms without emerging as the consensus candidate.

The goverynor spoke on Wednesday during the APC Oyo Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at Durbar Stadium in Oyo.

The senatorial district comprises 11 local governments – Afijio, Atiba, Akinyele, Egbeda, Lagelu, Oluyole, Oyo East, Oyo West, Ogo-Oluwa, Ona-Ara and Surulere.

“We are going to meet with all the aspirants at the Government House in Ibadan on Saturday by 12 noon, while we will meet with aspiring lawmakers on Sunday at the same venue and time,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Ajimobi said the essence of the meeting, particularly those aspiring to be governor was to appeal to some of them to possibly step down and avoid waste of resources.

“Monday is the last day to obtain the governorship nomination form. We don’t want all our aspirants to collect the form and waste their resources when we can talk to them.

“All of them are qualified, with intimidating profiles, but only one of them will emerge. We can still ensure everyone is engaged in one area or the other for them to partake,” he said.

The Governor assured members of the public that APC remained the party to beat, adding none of the other parties was enjoying the unity and cohesion that exists in party.

POLITICS2019: Abia APC adopts direct primaries.

Major stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abia State, on Wednesday, adopted direct primaries for all its aspirants jostling for elective positions in the upcoming 2019 general election.

After series of consultations during the meeting that was chaired by the APC chairman in the state, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, the state secretary of the party, Barrister Perfect Okorie, called for a motion for adoption of method for the selection of candidates.

Chief Friday Nwosu, a governorship aspirant from Obingwa local government area of the state moved a motion for adoption of direct primaries, while a former speaker of the Abia House of Assembly and a governorship aspirant, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike from Isiala Ngwa north local government area seconded the motion with all stakeholders lauding.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the enlarged meeting of critical stakeholders of APC, Nwankpa disclosed that the party stakeholders adopted direct primaries to enable members freely choose who to fly APC flags ahead of the 2019 poll.

He said, “For the purpose of aligning with the grassroots, the members of the party will choose those who will fly their flag. We have refused to allow few persons to take the responsibility of determining who will fly the flag of the party.

“We took the decision to also assess the strength of the party in our various localities and wards. We also adopt direct primaries as a test run of seeing how prepare we are, to take over government of Abia state come 2019.

How far have we gone with crude that we want to start dabbling into bio fuel?

Do you even know what biofuel is?

A biofuel is a fuel that is produced through contemporary biological processes, such as agriculture and anaerobic digestion, rather than a fuel produced by geological processes such as those involved in the formation of fossil fuels, such as coal and petroleum, from prehistoric biological matter.

We are just going supply them with the raw materials now.

2019: PDP already conceding defeat – APC

The All Progressives Congress says the People’s
Democratic Party is already conceding defeat
ahead of the 2019 elections by taking undue
interest in the mode of primaries the APC adopts
to elect its candidates for the elections.
The party stated this in a statement issued by Mr
Yekini Nabena, its National Publicity Secretary, on
Sunday in Abuja.
“The APC is amused by the interest the PDP has
in the mode of primary election we adopted to
elect our party candidates for the 2019 elections.
“With over 13 million registered APC members,
coupled with a large section of non-partisan
Nigerian electorate supporting the President
Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration, it
would seem that the PDP, on account of its attack
of APC’s adoption of direct primaries, particularly
to elect its presidential candidate, has already
conceded defeat even before the 2019 elections.
“We quite understand that the revolutionary and
progressive idea of direct primaries to elect party
candidates is strange to the PDP,” the statement
said.

According to the statement, the PDP is a party
known for its inability to ensure internal party
democracy, and it actively promotes imposition
of candidates against the will of its members.
The statement added that the direct primaries,
among other things, ensure fairness; creates a
level playing ground for contestants and
eliminates corrupt tendencies usually associated
with the delegates system.
It also added that the direct primaries ultimately
ensure full and direct participation of party
members at all levels in the election of party
candidates.
It maintained that the APC is a progressive party
and would continue to implement the change
agenda it promised to Nigerians.
The statement, therefore, urged Nigerians to
continue their support for Buhari as he continues
to rebuild and reposition the country.
